Universal Hotel, located about a 15-minute walk from Kyoto Station. It's a bit away from the hustle and bustle, so it's quiet and easy to relax. There are some shops around, so you won't have trouble finding dinner, and it's just a short walk to Kyoto Station. They also offer free breakfast and dinner, which is very generous.

Weekend lunch. I had breakfast at a hotel in Kyoto Kujo. Opened on July 1, 2016. Kujo, Kyoto. About a 15-minute walk from JR Kyoto Station Hachijo Exit. About a 2-minute walk from the Kyoto Municipal Subway Karasuma Line. On the corner of Karasuma Sannyoju intersection. Inside the restaurant, there are table seats. The hotel. The hotel's hallway and rooms have a retro feel, like they renovated an old building, but according to Google Maps, it seems to be a new construction. The breakfast buffet is only for guests staying at the hotel. But the amazing thing about this hotel is that dinner is also free! You can have a daily set meal or beef curry set meal. As expected in Kyoto, there were many customers in the breakfast buffet venue early in the morning. Breakfast buffet included meatball pasta, omelets, nori seaweed, tamagoyaki, grilled salmon, natto, nori seaweed, vegetable pie, pineapple, orange juice, and more. So-so.

I came on a trip to Kyoto on this day. This time, I stayed here. It's the hotel's morning buffet. The variety is a bit limited, but they have the basics covered, so you might be surprisingly satisfied. There's rice, miso soup, salmon, scrambled eggs, meatballs, natto, salad, which is a good balance. The salad includes cabbage slices, onion slices, broccoli, etc., and it's quite basic but also good. The taste is decent, but since it's a buffet, you can eat right away and it's all you can eat, so no complaints there. Thank you for the meal.

My spouse and I stayed in a twin room for one night. We were surprised by the price, but also impressed by the efforts made to keep it affordable. It is within a 10-minute walk from Kyoto Station, but if you have suitcases, it may take more than 15 minutes, so it's better to use a bus or the Kujo subway station. When I saw the exterior, it reminded me (I may be mistaken) of a splendid company dormitory built during the bubble economy period to secure talent, which I had seen on TV many times and exclaimed, "Oh, that place!" I assume they bought it cheap and renovated it. The dinner, which has received negative reviews like "cafeteria-level" on Rakuten Travel, is not at the level of a cafeteria. The daily main dish was fried horse mackerel and stir-fried pork and green peppers, with 2 small side dishes, 1 pickled dish, and 1 dessert. Although the portion of each dish is small, you can feel the efforts of the nutritionist who struggled between nutritional balance and cost, and while the taste is indeed like a cafeteria, the fact that vegetables and drinks are all-you-can-eat makes the free dinner more than enough. The breakfast is also at a level that is "above average" for a business hotel in terms of variety and quality. (It definitely has a better selection than places where you choose between Japanese and Western options for around 600 yen.) The room, which was a single room forcibly turned into a twin room, has more walking space than I imagined, and there are clever arrangements for placing luggage by the window. The sofa bed also had a center sink that allowed for a stable sleeping position, which was surprisingly good. There are about 7 shower stalls, a low-temperature sauna, and a large bathtub in the bath area. Considering the number of rooms, there may be times when the shower stalls are full, but in our case, they were not full when we used them before dinner, after dinner, and before breakfast. There is a convenience store on the first floor of the building next to the hotel, and with two meals included, a large communal bath, and the distance from the station, there is nothing to complain about as a business hotel. Overall, both my spouse and I were very satisfied. Thank you for the wonderful stay.

In April 2017, I had a business trip to Shiga, Kyoto, Osaka, and Miyazaki. On the second day, I had breakfast at a hotel near the Kujyo subway station. It was like staying in a one-room apartment. Despite being a bit far from the station, it was crowded, probably due to the season or group bookings. The Wi-Fi worked, but for some reason, my own device had no signal. At the breakfast venue, I lined up with a tray and was greeted by a mountain of shredded cabbage, macaroni, yakisoba, and meatballs. I tried to control myself and focused on eggs and salad, but my plate ended up being quite full. I also had some vegetable juice and salad to make it seem like I was being healthy.

On January 16, 2020 (Thursday) [Night] and January 17, 2020 (Friday) [Morning], I had the opportunity to eat at various hotel buffets over the past few years, but I have never written a review on Tabelog. However, this time, I have decided to write a review of the hotel restaurant for the first time. I had planned to go to the ramen restaurant "Tai'ei" after researching the area in advance, but due to a busy schedule from Osaka, we were tired and decided to have dinner with two people each choosing a set meal. The complimentary dinner set for hotel guests allows you to choose from the "Beef Curry Set" and the "Daily Special Set". My friend chose the "Daily Special Set", which included two salmon fries, croquettes, meatballs, pickles, rice, and miso soup, with quite a generous portion. Sitting nearby, we chatted with a craftsman who mentioned that this was quite a generous portion (laughs). My friend is a light eater, so she gave me some of her fries. I chose the "Beef Curry Set", as I was in the mood for curry (laughs). It included beef curry, fried meat, salad, and pickles. The curry was lukewarm and sweet, with a gentle taste reminiscent of school lunches. The "fried meat" was incredibly tough in both the batter and the meat itself (^^; The beef curry may have been a bit lacking in quantity in terms of rice and curry. But if it's free, it's sufficient (laughs). The dinner set also includes a salad bar and a drink bar. For breakfast buffet, I ate alone. There were various options available, such as grilled salmon, rolled omelette, omelets, meatballs, spaghetti, rice, and miso soup, and I ate a decent amount. The taste was average, but buffets are great (laughs). Unlike other hotels, there were no bread options. The dining staff were quiet, but that's understandable (laughs). Although they lacked the friendly and cheerful service like Route Inn, it's not a big deal (^^; I ended up eating too much for breakfast, so I couldn't go to the ramen restaurant "Tai'ei" after all (laughs). After that, we headed straight to Okayama Prefecture. The complimentary dinner and breakfast were a good value for the hotel. Thank you for the meal ☆
