Suekkss
Ten minutes' walk from Nippori and Uguisudani, this popular café is also within walking distance of Yanaka Shopping Street. Established in 1938, it is a super long-established café that, unlike many other similar establishments, accepts reservations online. Although not the most convenient location, reservations are likely essential on weekends. We were guided to the second-floor tatami room. The seating was so stiff that it was a struggle just to sit down, but I felt a nostalgic sense of calm, as if visiting my grandparents' house. I've hardly ever been in a tatami room at my grandparents' house. I ordered the Hayashi Rice with an additional charge for the Omu-Hayashi, while my companion chose the popular Egg Sandwich. The Omu-Hayashi had a rich and velvety taste, a classic deliciousness. The meat was quite substantial. Priced at 1,400 yen for a single item, it's a bit pricey, but unavoidable considering the location and atmosphere. I also tried a bit of the Egg Sandwich, but I'm not a fan of the sourdough bread it was served on. Overall, it left my mouth feeling dry, and I wished for a bit more moisture from the egg. Priced at 1,200 yen, it's quite expensive, but with three large sandwiches, it will fill you up. We also ordered drinks, spending around 4,000 yen for two people. While I don't usually eat meals at cafés, I found the lunch prices to be on the higher side. Despite that, it was a good time to experience the history of Yanaka with all five senses.
