I came to Shinjuku to attend a university class reunion. It's been a while since I've been to Shinjuku, and I was surprised to see that the East and West exits are connected. In the distant past, I once missed meeting my girlfriend because I was at the East exit and she was at the West exit, and we couldn't find each other as there were no cell phones back then. If the passageway had been connected like it is now, our fate might have been different (lol). Now, let's take a break as it's hot. I'm heading to a café that I used to pass by when I worked in Shinjuku before. It's a bit off the beaten path, so I always missed it. The café is underground, with a classic coffee shop vibe. I sit at the counter and look at the menu. Wow, it's expensive! All the coffees are over 1,000 yen, and the cakes are also over 1,000 yen. There are few places in Ginza as expensive as this... It's in Shinjuku, where the average customer spending is lower. It's more expensive than lunch. - Iced coffee (1,300 yen) - Adult shortcake (1,600 yen) About 3,000 yen, it's like the prices during the bubble era at a no-pants café (^-^). I see a sign on the wall saying "No photos allowed." Seriously? "Even though it's listed in the top 100 coffee shops, you can't take photos here?" "No, it's fine to take photos of the food and coffee. Please refrain from taking photos inside the store." I see. The iced coffee is a cold brew. It was served in a big bowl-like cup, and I had to drink it by holding it in my hands... like drinking matcha tea. In other words, no straw. The aroma is nice. The refreshing taste is impressive, but it doesn't compare to the cold brew coffee at Café de Rambouillet in Ginza. The cake is huge. It's like the size of two regular slices. When you think about it, maybe this price isn't that high... The fluffy cake is truly homemade. The strawberries are not too sour and easy to eat. I thought it was too big, but surprisingly, I finished it in no time. I tried to read a book while drinking coffee, but it was too dark, so I gave up. On my way out, I went to the restroom, and I found it amusing that the door was actually a bookshelf.
