Tokyo was so cold from the morning with snow that I was shivering. It was so cold that my fingers hurt and I couldn't even write a food log (hey hey). Just hearing the word snow makes the temperature drop instantly. When you go outside, you feel like you're freezing in an instant. Actually, I felt like I was almost frozen. I want to feel warm and cozy. The other day, I read a review of a delicious meatball dish with added bonbons, which led me to discover a delicious chestnut dish. I couldn't resist going to try it. I had tried a little bit of it before, but it wasn't satisfying. It was really unsatisfying. I will post about it soon... maybe not. I moved on to the next place. The cup and saucer were cute in pink. There was a description card, which was interesting. I wonder how many items there are. It's exciting to not know what you'll get. You can pour it into a pot. The bitterness had a hint of sweetness. The aroma of the coffee was nice, but when combined with the fragrance of the place, it was even better. Even if you have a stuffy nose, you can still enjoy it without sniffing too hard. Oh, the smell of the coffee from the entrance stairs of the shop is nice. I couldn't resist saying it – I wanted to say "Hee-co." It might be a bit too early for me to try the expensive coffee beans at this place, as my friend had advised me before. I decided to try it anyway. It was delicious. Really delicious. Don't laugh with your nose. But it's inevitable. If I describe it, it might lose its value. Just imagine it from the pictures. Oh no, no one's coming. Please don't chase me. Oh, I said it – Hee-co lovers should definitely try it. A shortcake for adults – "A shortcake for chestnut lovers." It's the season when chestnuts are missed. I always miss them. I want to see them. I've been waiting for the chestnuts. The appearance is beautiful. It has a simple and mature look. The chestnuts are big. There are even bigger ones. Even when cut in half, they are large enough. The rum-soaked sponge cake is slightly crunchy and fragrant with just a little bite. The cream is rich because it's animal-based. The texture is nice, and the encounter of this milky flavor with the mature sponge cake is like an adult's love. Or not. The chestnut's gift is there. It might roll off. I couldn't help but say, "It's delicious," to the lady. The eggs are fed fermented feed and sweet potatoes. The eggs are imported from America. They use eggs with a light yolk color. The darker ones are colored with paprika or marigold. And then, my daughter said the egg omelet I made with those eggs tasted different and delicious. I didn't season it at all. I smiled and thought, "I want to try it too." Maybe I should sell the eggs. We both smiled.

Payment was cash only! I saw this place in a magazine and just had to visit. I went on a Saturday at 1:30 pm. It's a small hidden gem of a coffee shop located in a building next to Shinjuku Alta. The atmosphere inside was like being in a solemn different world. I ordered an iced coffee (1300 yen) and a shortcake (1600 yen). It took about 5 minutes for them to serve. The iced coffee was cold brewed and poured into a bowl, so you hold the bowl with both hands and drink it like miso soup. It had a slightly sharp bitterness with a deep, rich flavor. The shortcake was quite large with lots of strawberries. It seemed to be made without artificial additives, and the whipped cream was thick and rich. It was a bit heavy on the stomach for someone in their late 20s, but the melting sweetness and exquisite bitterness of the coffee paired well. It was fun to watch them drip coffee for other customers from the counter seats while eating. Next time, I'll try the blend when I visit in colder weather.

I came to Shinjuku to attend a university class reunion. It's been a while since I've been to Shinjuku, and I was surprised to see that the East and West exits are connected. In the distant past, I once missed meeting my girlfriend because I was at the East exit and she was at the West exit, and we couldn't find each other as there were no cell phones back then. If the passageway had been connected like it is now, our fate might have been different (lol). Now, let's take a break as it's hot. I'm heading to a café that I used to pass by when I worked in Shinjuku before. It's a bit off the beaten path, so I always missed it. The café is underground, with a classic coffee shop vibe. I sit at the counter and look at the menu. Wow, it's expensive! All the coffees are over 1,000 yen, and the cakes are also over 1,000 yen. There are few places in Ginza as expensive as this... It's in Shinjuku, where the average customer spending is lower. It's more expensive than lunch. - Iced coffee (1,300 yen) - Adult shortcake (1,600 yen) About 3,000 yen, it's like the prices during the bubble era at a no-pants café (^-^). I see a sign on the wall saying "No photos allowed." Seriously? "Even though it's listed in the top 100 coffee shops, you can't take photos here?" "No, it's fine to take photos of the food and coffee. Please refrain from taking photos inside the store." I see. The iced coffee is a cold brew. It was served in a big bowl-like cup, and I had to drink it by holding it in my hands... like drinking matcha tea. In other words, no straw. The aroma is nice. The refreshing taste is impressive, but it doesn't compare to the cold brew coffee at Café de Rambouillet in Ginza. The cake is huge. It's like the size of two regular slices. When you think about it, maybe this price isn't that high... The fluffy cake is truly homemade. The strawberries are not too sour and easy to eat. I thought it was too big, but surprisingly, I finished it in no time. I tried to read a book while drinking coffee, but it was too dark, so I gave up. On my way out, I went to the restroom, and I found it amusing that the door was actually a bookshelf.

I have used this place several times, but this is my first time writing a review. The shortcake and gateau chocolat are really delicious and have a classical taste. I usually like milk coffee, but this time I tried their cold brew coffee. The coffee was delicious, and I can't forget the rare chamomile tea they had that day. I hope to visit again when they have it in stock. It's a relaxing place in Shinjuku. Thank you always.

Visited at 4 pm on a weekday, the place was 20% full. Located just 10 seconds walk from Shinjuku Station East Exit. Ice coffee costs ¥1200, probably the closest cafe to Shinjuku Station. Despite the slightly high price, the ice coffee was authentically brewed and served in a large glass, offering a unique taste. The interior plays classical music, creating a nostalgic atmosphere that helps you forget you're in Shinjuku. Known for their coffee, they also offer a famous homemade shortcake for those with a sweet tooth to consider.

At first, I hesitated to enter the entrance with its unique atmosphere, but since it was recommended, I decided to go in. The unfamiliar atmosphere and the presence of strangers made me feel a bit uncomfortable. The coffee was 1300 yen! It was more expensive than your average cafe, but it was delicious. However, it didn't leave a lasting impression beyond that. It was just delicious. Considering the price, it was expected, but nothing more.

I tried the elusive shortcake for the first time. It lived up to the rumors as the ultimate shortcake. The shortcake was priced at 1600 yen, and a cup of coffee at 1300 yen, which is a bit expensive, but the quality justifies it. The cake and coffee were perfect. However, the interior of the restaurant is small and the air conditioning is not very effective, and the staff's friendliness is not the best, so I would rate it 4.5 out of 5.

I spent my days leisurely visiting various famous shops. After finishing my schedule, I went to an old-fashioned coffee shop right near Shinjuku Alta. It was past 3 o'clock when I visited, but the inside of the shop was almost full. I thought about ordering coffee and cake, but the cake was so expensive!!! Haha, I'm sure it's really delicious, but 1600 yen for a piece of cake... And the iced coffee was also quite pricey at 1300 yen!! It was served in a unique container that looked like a tea bowl, not a glass. They said they wanted customers to enjoy the aroma more with the wide opening. The coffee was indeed delicious. The portion was generous, so I was generally satisfied. The service was good too, but I couldn't help but be concerned about the prices...

I ordered a generous serving of fluffy whipped cream and iced coffee. I was surprised by the large cake, and the iced coffee came in a ceramic cup that looked like it could be used for desserts like sweet red bean soup, with ice added which also caught me off guard. The staff were warm and friendly. Next time, I want to try ordering a blend of hot coffee to see how it is served in a cup and saucer.

The prices are a bit high and the seating inside the shop was a bit cramped, but the strawberry shortcake and tea were delicious, and the atmosphere of the shop was nice, so I was satisfied~!! I thought the cake was big, but the cream was light and not too sweet, so I finished it in no time...!!

I wanted to have a delicious coffee after lunch in Shinjuku, so I searched and found the famous coffee shop "Bon". It was my first visit there. It's located on the underground floor 1F along the JR railway street in Shinjuku Higashi-guchi Kabukicho area. It's a bit hard to find. I ordered an iced coffee (1,300 yen). The interior of the shop is a bit dark, with many coffee cups placed at the back of the counter. The iced coffee was served in a traditional tea bowl without a straw, which is the style of this shop. It reminded me of an old man at a coffee shop near Gakugeidaigaku Station who said, "Iced coffee tastes better without a straw." The iced coffee at Bon had a rich flavor, a moderate bitterness, and was delicious.

Visited solo on a holiday. A popular cafe located near Shinjuku Station East Exit, close to Alta, known for its adult-flavored coffee and cakes. Winner of the '21-'22 Top 100 Cafe Award. Arrived around 3:30 pm on a Saturday. The cozy interior with about 30 seats, including 10 at the counter and 20 at tables, was mostly filled with adults. Sat at the counter and ordered a shortcake, specifically recommended for chestnut lovers, and an iced coffee to combat the heat. The iced coffee, served in a large bowl-like cup, had a rich and sharp flavor. The chestnut shortcake had a generous amount of cream and chestnuts, with a hint of liqueur in the sponge cake. The cream was light and complemented the coffee well. Enjoyed a fulfilling adult time at this lovely cafe. Will definitely come back again.

This is a cafe located about a 3-minute walk from the east exit of Shinjuku Station. The interior is not very spacious, and it's quite crowded with customers, giving off a lively atmosphere with the staff moving around quickly. After lunch on a holiday, my wife and I visited this cafe and had a blended coffee. The coffee had a rich flavor and was delicious. Although the blended coffee was priced at 1300 yen, it was actually equivalent to two cups in terms of quantity. One cup was satisfying both in terms of taste and quantity. Additionally, when I asked for milk, they brought out a sugar pot.

Shinjuku East Exit! Right near the famous Alta. Across the street, there is a café where you can enjoy a very expensive but incredibly delicious shortcake! The cream is delicious, and the base is soaked in something that adds a nice touch to the flavor. They use seasonal strawberries, which have just the right amount of acidity, making them delicious! Personally, I like to have iced tea with my shortcake, so even though it's a coffee shop, I asked for iced tea. They have a special way of making it - they brew hot tea, then pour it into a pot with ice, let it cool for about 3 minutes, and then pour it into a glass with ice. It's refreshing and incredibly tasty! The only downside is that it's a bit pricey. If it were more affordable, I would definitely visit more often. The cake cost 1,600 yen and the iced tea cost 1,300 yen, totaling 2,900 yen. But the cake here is something I'll probably crave from time to time! 😄

In Shinjuku, there was also a retro coffee shop. When you go down into the underground and enter through the narrow entrance, it feels like you have slipped back in time. There are rows of teacups on the shelf behind the counter where the barista is! And all the menu items are expensive!! A slice of strawberry shortcake costs 1,600 yen!! I wanted to try the delicious-looking cake, but I had to give up. This time, I only had the coffee (blend). Blend Coffee 1,300 yen There are about 2 and a half cups in the coffee pot, so I guess the price is reasonable for that amount. It has a relatively refreshing aftertaste and a smooth bitterness. It's easy to drink, but I think two cups are enough. The atmosphere is soothing, but I wish there was a bit more space to relax. It can't be helped though.

Just before stepping into Kabukicho from the east exit of Shinjuku Station, there is a B1F area of a cluttered mixed-use building. It's just a second away from the Alta exit. I once visited without any prior knowledge, not knowing that it opens at noon, and found the shutter closed, wandering around in confusion. I wish I could tell my past self that it's important to do some research before visiting. I heard that on weekends, there is a line all the way to the stairs, so I decided to visit on a weekday afternoon. As I descended the stairs from the entrance, there were notes about no photography and COVID-19 measures, making me a bit nervous as I entered. There was only one female customer inside. The interior had a hidden gem vibe that pretentious young people would appreciate, with a collection of high-end cup and saucers that the owner had gathered as a hobby displayed at the back of the counter. I've seen many coffee shops like this before, and some have unspoken rules where the staff decides which cup to give you based on how you look, so it was interesting to see how I'm perceived by others. When I received the menu, I was surprised. A cup of coffee was over 1,000 yen. If I added a cake, it would be close to 3,000 yen. But the strawberry shortcake here is famous as a rare find, with only 16 pieces made per day, so I didn't hesitate to order an iced coffee and an adult shortcake. The quiet master and friendly madam working together reminded me of scenes from the Showa era. I sat at the counter right in front of the master, which was a bit intimidating, but it turned out to be fine. When I asked about the no photography rule, I was told that it's okay to take pictures of my surroundings (the food on the counter). The iced coffee was served in a bowl without a handle, and the master's attention to detail was evident. The strawberry shortcake was a hit or miss for me. It was oversized, with a high proportion of whipped cream that made it feel like I was eating more cream than cake, and the cream was too bland for my taste. It didn't quite live up to the hype like the Dojima roll. The high price of coffee in the Shinjuku area is to maintain the high-end cup collection that decorates the store. Those who can appreciate the owner's "extraordinary" taste may become regulars at this place. The owner's last name is Taira, hence the play on words with "ordinary" as "Taira". Some people joke with a serious face, but it takes a certain level of understanding from the listener to get it. Such understanding is crucial in life. Oh, by the way, they also offer a school for those who want to open a coffee shop. The tuition is not as high as the coffee prices here, but it's still "ordinary".

Modestly speaking, this cafe is divine. I wonder why I didn't notice it before. It's not exactly a budget-friendly cafe, but the strawberry and chestnut shortcake was truly delicious. Light yet satisfying, this shortcake is a must-try!

I visited this restaurant after having lunch with a friend. I had been curious about it for a while. I was surprised that the coffee cost nearly 2000 yen, but the meticulous work put into it was evident once I tasted it. As a coffee lover, I recommend visiting this place at least once. The cake had a texture that seemed like it would melt away, and I devoured it in no time.

Today, I visited a popular cafe located after passing through the crowded Shinjuku Station. It was quiet with only 2 groups of customers before and after me around 4 pm on a weekday. The prices were on the higher side, so it didn't seem like a place for those looking to save money. I ordered an iced coffee. It was priced at 1,300 yen including tax. The coffee was brewed slowly at low temperatures for 24 hours, resulting in a smooth taste with a unique aroma. It had a deep roasted scent that lingered in the air. The coffee was served in a slightly larger cup resembling a tea bowl, which enhanced the enjoyment of the aroma. It felt like I was drinking matcha. Overall, it was a delightful experience. I would definitely visit again if I have the chance. *Visit Rating: 3.68

Visited the store around 3:00 PM on Monday, a public holiday, on July 17, 2023. Located in the basement of a building near Shinjuku East Exit. The place was almost full, but I managed to sit at the counter right in front of where they were brewing. On the rack across from me, there were rows of cups, many of them high-end. The master (I assume) brewing was very meticulous, pouring into a pot and placing a card with the origin on each cup and saucer. It seemed like titanium was used for spoons, as indicated on the cards. I ordered a Mocha (¥1300). I considered getting a shortcake as well, but it was too expensive, so I skipped it. The cup was an English Aynsley Orchard Gold in turquoise. I poured the Mocha into it. The rich fruity aroma spread around. It had a good balance of acidity. Meanwhile, they continued brewing one after another.
