On the way to the hotel, I couldn't help but notice a ramen shop. It was as if I was being drawn in by the lights like a bug. Even though I was so full, I suddenly had a craving for ramen, so I headed straight for the shop. I quickly checked the menu and ended up ordering a large serving of rich tonkotsu shoyu ramen. It had a Kyoto-style flavor, I think. I was a bit drunk, so I don't remember much about the taste, but looking back at the photos, it was delicious. Thank you for the meal!

[Date] February 8, 2023 (Wednesday) 11:48 AM [Foodlog Rating] 3.24 [Waiting Time] None, 5 people inside [Service] Excellent [Would Visit Again] Yes [Payment Method] Cash [Turnover] Medium [Ramen] [Noodles] Thin straight noodles [Toppings] Pork chashu (2 slices), chopped green onions, menma, back fat [Soup] Back fat soy sauce [Preparation Time] 10 minutes This ramen has a strong back fat flavor with impactful, coarse back fat. The thin noodles have a good chew, and the slightly thick soup is flavorful. The chashu and generous amount of chopped green onions are great. It's a delicious and affordable ramen with consistent taste.

Deep Blue Dive

On this day, all the shops I wanted to go to were unexpectedly closed, so I ended up at this place nearby. The exterior looked old and gave off a somewhat intimidating vibe for a first-time visitor. However, I was intrigued by the atmosphere. I ordered the Char Siu Ramen for 800 yen, which was only 100 yen more than regular ramen. It arrived in about 10 minutes. The appearance was truly reminiscent of Kyoto ramen. When I took a sip of the soup, it was mild and delicious. It had just the right amount of flavor without being too overpowering, and paired well with the thin noodles. Although the Char Siu portion was not large, it was tasty. Overall, it was a good restaurant experience.

I moved to Gion Higashiyama and visited the ramen shop "Ramen Katsu Kuruma" that I was curious about. I arrived and waited in line before entering. Inside, I ordered the "Char siu ramen" with an additional boiled egg and a small bowl of rice, as well as the regular "Ramen" with a side of gyoza. The Char siu ramen and regular ramen were delicious, with a rich pork back fat soy sauce broth and medium-thick noodles. The gyoza was also tasty, with a thin skin and a flavorful filling of vegetables and meat. Overall, the deliciousness of the ramen and the value for money make me want to visit again in the future.

I visited the shop around 12:30 PM and saw a menu posted outside advertising "Ramen" for 600 yen, which seemed very affordable. I sat at the counter and ordered the ramen. While waiting for my bowl to arrive, I noticed groups of middle school students who seemed to be on a school trip coming in one after another. When the bowl was brought to me, it was filled with slices of chashu pork, bamboo shoots, and plenty of chopped green onions. The soup, made from chicken and pork bones, had a thick texture with lots of pork fat added, giving it a rich and mellow flavor with a subtle soy sauce base. The noodles were thin and straight, with a good bite that complemented the soup well. I enjoyed mixing the tender chashu pork and abundant green onions with the noodles. I was a bit surprised to find such delicious ramen offered at only 600 yen in this location near tourist spots like Yasaka Shrine and Kiyomizu Temple.

On this day, I accompanied my companion on their search for a property in Kyoto. They are planning to live in Kyoto after retiring, so we are looking around a bit earlier. On our way back, we got a little hungry and decided to have a quick meal here. We had the following: - Ramen (regular) - Char siu ramen (regular) - Gyoza It was past 5 pm, so there were no other customers. We sat at the counter at the back. My companion said it was similar to Wakayama ramen - a ramen with pork back fat and soy sauce. It was not too heavy, with just the right amount of back fat, making it a light and soy sauce-flavored ramen. There were plenty of green onions piled in the middle, adding a crunchy texture. The thin straight noodles paired well with the soup, in my opinion. Being in Higashiyama Yasui, I thought it would be a nice ramen shop to stop by after drinking.

This is a ramen shop located along Higashioji Street near Gion. The entrance may seem a bit intimidating, but once inside, there is a counter and tables in the back. I ordered the regular ramen for 600 yen. It's a tonkotsu shoyu ramen, but surprisingly light in flavor. The chashu had plenty of green onions on top. The noodles were slightly thin and straight. Overall, for the price and location, I was quite satisfied.

Arrived at the apartment of the milk sky child at a significantly delayed time of exactly 10:00 am as planned... The sought-after "Daiichi Asahi Takabashi" already had a long line... So, we first enjoyed the wife's request, "Kodai-ji Temple"♡ Is it possible to have such a warm New Year's Eve? Anyway... It wasn't cold during the day... leisurely... relaxed... enjoyed Kodai-ji Temple♡ As my appetite increased, I felt confused recently by the food search on Tabelog, so I was also interested in "Special Grade Ramen Kan" diagonally across the intersection, but decided to come here for some reason. Entered at 12:25, and the wife and child had already secured a table at the back, which was nice. Ordered "Ramen" regular size 600 yen x 2, large 800 yen x 1, "Gyoza" 350 yen x 2. I read a bit about the atmosphere and such on Tabelog, but without any expectations, I was able to purely enjoy the taste of the "Kyoto Ramen." Even the wife, who doesn't like tonkotsu, ate without complaining. As for me, I re-recognized the sweetness of the back fat and was very satisfied... I was scolded by my wife for finishing the soup completely! The gyoza was delicious with a strong garlic flavor... If I had to nitpick, it would have been even better with a bit more crispiness. The owner seemed unfriendly, but we headed happily to Entokuin at 12:58.

I went to Katsuana for lunch alone on the 29th. The exterior of the restaurant looks really nice. The interior is not very organized and clean. When I entered, there was one person at the counter and a group of about 6 students in the back room who seemed to be on a school trip. When I tried to sit at the counter, I was asked to move to another seat. I ordered the chashu ramen. The chashu was dry and thin. The ramen had a strange smell that bothered me. Some people may find it delicious, but it didn't suit my taste. Thank you.

I went to listen to the New Year's Eve bell at Kiyomizu Temple with my friends and afterwards we decided to warm up at a nearby ramen shop. Ramen Kachou is located on the way to Yasaka Shrine, down from Kiyomizu Temple. I had the Char Siu Ramen, which had plenty of pork slices, bamboo shoots, and green onions. The ramen had a rich soy sauce soup with lots of pork fat. After being outside for a long time, it really warmed me up from the inside. It was a delicious way to start the new year with a bowl of ramen.

This is a ramen restaurant located on the west side of the Higashiyama Yasui intersection, south of the Gion intersection (below the Yasaka Shrine stone steps). It seems to be pronounced "Kachikura" as indicated on the sign outside. I have passed by this place many times in the past but never noticed its existence. Was it recently opened? The interior is centered around the counter and the overall atmosphere gives off a vibe of an old ramen shop. The photo shows a regular ramen priced at 600 yen. This seems quite reasonable for ramen in this area. It is a shoyu-based ramen with a good amount of green onions. The thickness and flavor of the chashu, the amount of oil in the soup, and the taste of the soup itself, along with the straight noodles, make it a "typical Kyoto-style ramen" in my opinion. The menu consists of only "ramen" and "chashu noodles," keeping it simple. It might be a good place to stop by on your way back from a night out.

I noticed a little bit of pork fat floating on top, but by the time I realized it, I had already finished the soup. This ramen was the reason I started exploring different ramen shops. It was delicious.

Char siu ramen, regular size, for 700 yen. Plus an egg for 100 yen. Lots of green onions. It's been a while since I had ramen.

The standard soy sauce tonkotsu broth at Higashiyama Kyoto Ramen is delicious with its rich and flavorful soup.
