The atmosphere was great, and there were many female customers in the restaurant. The recommended potato salad (with pickled green beans) and fatty tuna were absolutely delicious. We arrived about 30 minutes before last order, but we were very satisfied. Next time, I want to go earlier and enjoy the oden.

Nostalgic place, sometimes visit Kyoto ✨ Today I went to KELPさん♪ I love oden, so I was looking forward to visiting~♪ Had a wonderful gathering with old and new friends♡ The beer was in perfect condition and we had a great time! Hooray! ( ̄∇ ̄) We ordered various dishes like Toro Taku, thick fried tofu oden, two other types of oden, potato salad with pickled Japanese mustard greens, buttered sweet potatoes with Calpis, skate fin, and ramen. Everything was delicious, but overall the flavors were a bit light. As accompaniments for drinks, it felt a bit lacking. The atmosphere of the restaurant was nice, but the rush from last order to payment was intense...haha. If the staff were able to chat with customers while settling the bill, it would have been nice for us drinkers. It might be different for regular customers, but since it was a rare visit to Kyoto for me, it was a slightly disappointing ending. My average rating is 2.5.

KELP, a branch of Onoyukimachi ONO, is a stylish izakaya where you can enjoy oden. Their dishes include:
- KELP's potato salad with special chirimen sansho from Onoyukimachi ONO
- Oden with daikon, fried mochi, and Kujou green onions
- Duck cabbage rolls
- Grilled eggplant
- Stingray fin
- Grilled sweet potatoes with Calpis butter
No matter where you go, the stingray fin is always delicious. Setting that aside, the plates are all cute and make you feel excited. The potato salad with pickled radish or chirimen sansho on top was a unique and delicious twist. The daikon was soft and flavorful, the fried mochi was excellent. Personally, I found the grilled eggplant to be soft, flavorful, and very delicious. There were many other menu items that caught my eye, so I need to go back soon.

After finishing work, I stopped by this place. It was a bit hard to find in a narrow alley, but the inside of the restaurant was bustling. The secret to their delicious oden is the broth. They also have creative dishes, but I started with the classics: daikon radish, egg, rolled omelette, beef tendon, and shrimp dumplings. The egg was perfectly half-cooked and the shrimp dumplings were juicy. The recommended potato salad had shredded mountain pepper on top. I didn't have much time, but I was able to try a bit of everything and left satisfied. I will definitely come back. It was a restaurant that was difficult to get a reservation at, so I made a reservation online more than a week in advance and visited! The dishes were centered around oden, with chicken skewers, potato salad, grilled vegetables, and more! Every dish was delicious and I was very satisfied. For drinks, I had beer, wine, and sake, with a particularly impressive selection of sake. Thank you for the feast!

A bit pricey but delicious oden! I found it a little off-putting that the chef tasted the food with their hands and then continued cooking without washing them, but I guess it's just part of the seasoning process! Sitting at the counter gives you a good view of the kitchen, both the positive and negative aspects, so it might be better to sit a bit further away!

The alcohol was delicious too. When I ordered sake, they placed the bottle in a way that made it easy to take photos. The mochi pouch with leeks and miso was especially delicious. Lastly, the staff gave us hand warmers, which was a very nice touch.

A stylish izakaya where you can enjoy oden. In the cold winter, oden is the best choice, right? The potato salad with pickled shallots was delicious. The oden was flavorful and tasty, and the plates and dishes were stylish and lovely. It's the kind of place you want to recommend to someone because it's both stylish and delicious.

I went to this restaurant recommended by my gourmet friend. It's a place where you can enjoy delicious oden. The menu is perfect for a casual drink, but they also have hearty options. This time, I had the fatty tuna, daikon radish oden, beef tendon oden, and boiled egg. The fatty tuna was so delicious, with lots of fat that melted in my mouth. The oden, including the daikon radish, was soft enough to be easily cut with chopsticks, but not too soft, with a perfect texture and well-infused flavor. If I had to say one thing, I prefer boiled eggs that are closer to soft-boiled eggs.

Located in a narrow alley near Shijo, this place is a shop where you can enjoy oden and Japanese sake. As soon as you enter the store, you are enveloped in the pleasant aroma of kombu and bonito broth. The simmered kogori and suri-nagashi served as appetizers are a delightful touch of Kyoto. The retro labels on the sake bottles add to the charm. The Shokutoku freshly squeezed junmai ginjo nama genshu, harvested in autumn and with a refreshing taste, is a winter limited edition sake that pairs well with the KELP potato salad. The daikon oden, soaked in broth, is soft and flavorful, and goes perfectly with yuzu pepper and mustard. The NICHINICHI Yamadanishiki nama morohoshikomi, with a gentle taste and a slight gas sensation, is a Kyoto favorite. The tender beef tendon, simmered to perfection, is sweet and delicious. The Joyo new variety, a junmai ginjo nama genshu made with 100% Hyakumangoku rice, has a fresh and slightly light taste. The oden with raw fu and egg, a Kyoto specialty, is a must-try. Despite being full as a popular and thriving restaurant, the delicious food and sake make it worth the visit.

I made a reservation and visited this restaurant in Kyoto several times because I was very interested. Each dish was very delicious with a wide variety and reasonably priced. The staff's service was also good. I would like to visit again when I come to Kyoto.

[Kelp] Kyoto ❤️ Located in Shijo Kawaramachi, Kelp is an oden restaurant. The name Kelp means seaweed in English! It's about 20m from the east entrance of Kurokawa-ji on Karasuma. It might seem hidden as it's not facing the main street, but that's part of its charm! It has a Kyoto vibe! Highly recommend the fatty tuna tataki (served with Hyogo seaweed) - a personal favorite! The perfect marriage of fresh tuna sourced from Kyoto Central Wholesale Market and crispy pickled daikon. The classic dish of daikon is a must-try! The gentle broth will make you feel like you're flying! Don't forget to order the golden half-boiled egg with its runny yolk. The beef tendon, simmered to perfection, topped with a hint of spice, is also a must-try. With a main counter and close proximity to the station, it's perfect for solo dining. A unique adult oden and sake bar hidden in the alley. Definitely worth a visit!

I had been curious about KELP for a while! The tsukidashi was delicious from the start, and it got me excited. The oden right in front of the counter looked so good, and there were so many menu options. Everything I tried was delicious, and the toro was surprisingly large and tasty. I want to visit again.

I've always wanted to visit this hidden gem of an oden and sake bar in a back alley. I couldn't get a reservation over the phone, but luckily managed to get a table when I went there. They have counter seats and table seats, and this time we sat at a table.
Oden:
- Daikon (radish) ¥300
- Egg ¥250
- Dashimaki (rolled omelette) ¥550
- Negi cheese kinchaku (leek and cheese pouch) ¥450
I wanted to try all the ingredients and they were all delicious, soaked in flavorful broth and really warmed me up.
Every morning they get fresh fatty tuna from the market:
- Toro taku (fatty tuna with seaweed and pickled daikon to roll yourself) ¥1,000
I thought it might be sold out since it's so popular, but they had it and I got so excited. You roll the tuna and pickled daikon in seaweed yourself. This thickly sliced fresh tuna was so delicious. The staff were all very kind, no wonder this place is so popular.

Eating oden in Kyoto on a cold day is the best! Oden is a dish that makes you feel full quickly, so it's not the best value for money if you want to eat a lot. However, there are unique menu options to choose from, making it a fun experience. The mandarin orange sake was excellent!

Located about a 3-minute walk from Karasuma Shijo Station, Oden KELP is a popular Japanese restaurant that opened on November 11, 2019 and is consistently full. Reservations can only be made through the @kelp_kyoto account. The restaurant is closed on Tuesdays. As of March 13, 2021, due to a request from Kyoto Prefecture, the restaurant operates with shortened hours from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Check for updates before visiting.
The restaurant offers counter seats, standing room, and a second-floor seating area for groups of four or more. The kitchen is run by two male chefs, while the service staff consists of about three female employees.
The menu is reasonably priced, offering dishes like Oden with fresh ingredients like nama-fu (wheat gluten) and seasonal items like kabocha (pumpkin) soup as an appetizer. The atmosphere attracts a younger female clientele, and the food pairs well with drinks like draft beer.
Recommended dishes include KELP's potato salad, made with Oden potatoes mixed with other ingredients and topped with pickled vegetables. Another highlight is the torotaku, a delicious dish of Maguro tuna wrapped in nori seaweed. Customers also enjoy various Oden items like daikon radish, nama-fu, dashimaki tamago (rolled omelette), and tomatoes, as well as tempura made from Oden daikon.
The drink menu includes sake, shochu, fruit liqueur, wine, and whiskey, providing a variety of options to complement the food. The cozy and welcoming atmosphere makes it a great place to enjoy with friends or colleagues. Be sure to check the menu for interesting items to try.

It's a bit hard to find, but it has a cozy hidden gem vibe. When you enter the shop, you can smell the delicious aroma of dashi broth. There are tables, counter seats, and standing tables available. From the counter seats, you can see a variety of oden dishes lined up in front of you, making you want to order different items. They also have unique oden options like tomato and gyoza. The plates are made of Kutani ware with designs of characters like Dragon Ball and Doraemon, which adds to the fun. It seems like a convenient place that can be used for both the first and second stop of the night.

It's hot every day. It's dangerously hot, feeling like a matter of life and death. I love oden, and my friends and I have been curious about this place for a while. The stylish exterior doesn't look like an oden shop at all. It looks more like a cafe. Inside, there are a few seats at the counter and tables. 90% of the customers are young women, and they all seemed to have made reservations. What we had: Oden with daikon, konjac, nama-fu, cold tomato, shime saba toro taku, nori maki. Oden daikon tempura. The mozuku and eggplant simmered in the oden broth were delicious. The mozuku had a unique taste, not too vinegary or fishy, and had a crunchy texture. The eggplant was cooked in just the right amount of oil, sweet and savory. The oden broth was gentle and I wanted to drink more of it. The daikon was flavorful and I could eat endless amounts of it. Apart from oden, the menu is extensive and it's hard to choose. The shime saba and toro taku were also delicious. There are many appealing dishes, so one visit is not enough. There are many women in the early hours, but around 9 pm, it seems to become a second stop for some, as many salarymen also come at that time. Men might find it easier to get a table later in the evening. The staff are very friendly, and the atmosphere is stylish, making it suitable for a date. As mentioned on Instagram, the Kutani ware plates are cute. I will visit again. Thank you for the meal.

This is a stylish restaurant where you can enjoy oden and Japanese cuisine in a renovated old folk house. The interior is very sophisticated, with a blend of old folk house style and modern elements. The dishes are especially cute, served on plates with characters like Doraemon and Dragon Ball. Since it was winter, I had oden and sake as the main dishes, along with some side dishes like potato salad, all of which were delicious and paired well with the sake. It's a great place to enjoy Kyoto's atmosphere in a modern setting, making it perfect for tourists. Whether it's your first stop or a place for a second round of drinks, it's highly recommended.

I visited a shop named KELP, and when I asked the staff about the name, they explained that it was taken from the kelp used in dashi broth. The shop is known for its delicious dashi broth. After finishing work early, I searched for a nearby izakaya and found a new place close to my hotel. It had just opened at 5 pm, and I was worried about being turned away since I didn't have a reservation and was dining alone. However, I was warmly welcomed and seated at the counter. I forgot to take a picture of the menu, but I ordered a draft beer. I noticed fried oysters, but since I had a late lunch, I opted for potato salad and freshly fried thick tofu. The potato salad had the option of topping with shredded mountain pepper or pickled shiso, and I chose the shredded mountain pepper. The thick tofu was fried right in front of me, so it was piping hot. It was delicious, and when my beer was finished, I switched to sake. I found a sake called Shira Raku on the menu that I wanted to try, so I ordered a glass. The combination of thick tofu and sake was excellent. Oden is one of my favorite dishes, and I looked for eggs and mochi. I found a Kyoto-style menu with fried mochi and Kujo negi (leeks), so I eagerly waited for it. The fried mochi and Kujo negi oden was truly recommended. As I was drinking sake quickly, the staff kindly offered me water as a chaser. I found a nice shochu and ordered it with hot water. The alcohol and food were delicious, but being an older gentleman, I couldn't eat much. I was undecided on what to order next, but I decided on the tuna toro tartare, which was also delicious. I thought it probably wouldn't taste as good if I tried making it at home. The shop started to fill up with reserved customers and year-end party season was in full swing, so I settled the bill early and headed back to the hotel. The staff were friendly and cheerful, and I had a delicious meal. If this shop was nearby, I would definitely visit again. I look forward to returning.
