Standing on a small hill in Higashiyama, The Westin Miyako Kyoto is a sophisticated 4-star hotel representing Kyoto. Recently renovated and reopened in April last year with a new concept of "elegant queen," the hotel aims to establish its name both domestically and internationally by providing facilities and services that cater to the needs of the new era, transforming into a hotel that satisfies the luxury class. Located about a 17-minute taxi ride from Kyoto Station, just a 2-minute walk from Exit 2 of Keage Station on the Tozai Line. The impressive driveway on the hill in Higashiyama offers a grand appearance. The 266 rooms on 11 floors have been reduced by half from before the renovation, positioning the hotel as a high-class luxury hotel. Additionally, five restaurants and bars welcome guests to enjoy a delightful dining experience during their travels.
On this day, we used the breakfast service, which we confirmed upon check-in was complimentary for guests. All we had to do was provide our room number when using the service. The breakfast venue is the second-floor all-day dining "Rakusora." The high ceiling and open space provide a refreshing morning atmosphere with views of the rich nature of Higashiyama and the cityscape of Kyoto. The lineup includes freshly prepared dishes from the live kitchen where the chef showcases their skills, as well as a buffet featuring seafood delivered directly from the fishing port and dishes made with Kyoto vegetables. An interesting feature is the onigiri, where you can specify your favorite ingredients and enjoy freshly made onigiri using Yatsubushi Gibe white rice. There are seven different fillings available. At the dessert counter, you can enjoy a variety of fruits and several types of French toast, which are freshly baked and topped with your favorite flakes. We enjoyed a salad made with Kyoto vegetables, a Kyoto-style simmered dish, and steamed tofu. As a rice dish, we had the Hachirimen Sansho onigiri, which was generously filled with ingredients and had a delicious aroma of Sansho pepper. Although not a dish, the Fushimizu sake brewing water from Fushimi, Kyoto, was easy to drink with a smooth taste that gently blended with the morning stomach, providing delicious water. The fresh orange juice was also very refreshing, with its texture and acidity being as fresh as can be, prompting us to have more.
This time, we stayed in a Deluxe Twin room on the 5th floor. As the hotel is built along a slope, there are a considerable number of rooms on one floor, and room 5055 was a corner room with a view of Heiankyo. The room itself is mostly occupied by a bed and a desk, but being a corner room allowed us the privilege of going out to the lanai to enjoy the view. Additionally, there is a window in the bathroom, providing a pleasant bath time awakening with light streaming in the morning, and the toilet is also a separate space. It seems that there are also natural hot spring open-air baths, a fitness center, and a pool, so we would like to try using them next time. Although the hotel is located away from Kyoto Station, there is a shuttle bus service without the need for reservations, and there are always taxis waiting at the driveway. The quiet and elegant presence surrounded by the nature of Higashiyama and overlooking the city of Kyoto is fitting for the dignified motif of the queen, making The Westin Miyako Kyoto a 4-star hotel that quietly makes you want to visit again to explore nearby temples.
