This is a direct sales store of Shino located along the Ohara Highway in Kyoto. I visited here on my way back from Sanzenin and Jakko-in. Shino's direct sales stores, Shino Toji Temple Store (Ohara Highway Store) and Sanzenin Approach Store, are famous for their ponzu sauce and homemade dressings. At the direct sales store, you can sample ponzu sauce and dressings, as well as buy vegetables grown in the Ohara area and yomogi mochi made with yomogi harvested in Ohara. Shino's ponzu sauce and dressings are often featured in the media and are popular at department store events and for mail order, as well as being loved by professional chefs. Since I came all the way to Ohara, I had to buy souvenirs at Shino's. Yuzu white miso dressing (918 yen) is the most popular among the various dressings available at the direct sales store. This dressing mixes oil-based dressing with sweet Kyoto white miso and strong yuzu flavor. The strong scent of yuzu and the sweetness of white miso complement each other wonderfully. When I put it on my usual vegetable salad, it tasted completely different. It also goes well with dishes like cold tofu as a vinegar miso substitute. Kyoto flavor Kin goma dressing (972 yen) is made using Kyoto white miso and golden sesame seeds, with plenty of ground sesame seeds and a strong sesame flavor. It is sweet and easy to use without any strong taste. When I put it on tofu salad, the taste of tofu changed completely. If I see it at department store events in the future, I will definitely buy it again. I forgot to buy the other famous item, ponzu sauce, so I will make sure to buy it when I see it next time. I went to Ohara in Sakyo-ku, Kyoto for some errands. After finishing my errands, I went to Suigetsu and bought pickles and tsukudani. Along the way, I found this place, and there was a big sign with the words "ponzu" on it. My partner loves ponzu. She likes ponzu and whenever she finds a different kind of ponzu on our travels, she buys it. By the way, I am a fan of Worcestershire sauce. I thought if I bought some, my partner would be happy, so I stopped by. I bought yuzu, sudachi, and daidai ponzu, yuzu white miso dressing, and Kyoto-style hot pot sauce. They were all delicious, and my partner was pleased. The yuzu, sudachi, and daidai ponzu had a strong citrus flavor, just as the name suggests. I'm not sure if it was yuzu, sudachi, or daidai, but the acidity was just right and it was delicious. White miso dressing has been a recent favorite in our house, so I bought the yuzu white miso dressing. The white miso-based dressing with a hint of yuzu flavor went well with vegetables, and it was also delicious when poured over grilled chicken with salt and pepper. The Kyoto-style hot pot sauce had a bonito flavor, and it was delicious with hot tofu and chicken meatball hot pot. All three were delicious and very useful. Enjoying seasonal vegetables and seafood in a kombu broth hot pot with ponzu. Yuzu white miso dressing paired well with vegetables, chicken, and cold shabu-shabu. The hot tofu with chicken meatball mixed with ginger and sansho pepper, served with bonito-flavored Kyoto-style hot pot sauce, was a hit with our sake-drinking friend. All of them had flavors that made me appreciate being Japanese.

More like a dressing shop than a roadside station! The yuzu ponzu here is divine. I often receive it as a souvenir, as this place seems to be one of the direct sales outlets! Since I had a car, I took a leisurely 20-30 minute drive from the city. The richness of the lineup unique to direct sales outlets, and the fact that you can sample everything on the spot, is delightful. The limited edition buntan dressing tastes like something from a hotel. I'm stocking up on it. While the variety is not as extensive at the Daimaru department store in the city, they do sell it there! How about it as a souvenir!

I went again yesterday! Got some delicious mochi! I love both soybean mochi and mugwort mochi! And the brown rice mochi was also amazing! It was a bit chilly today, so I skipped the perilla juice (lol). It's convenient to drive there from home too!

On the way back from Shiga, my mother said, "Stop by that store!" I was impressed that I knew which store she meant (laughs). While my mother piled up on mochi and ponzu, I opted for the shiso juice! It was so refreshing and delicious! They make the juice from shiso grown in Mr. Shino's field! It was only 100 yen per cup!

The neighbor's aunt recommended a delicious mochi shop to my mother, so we went on a drive to Ohara today, our day off. Instead of visiting the popular Sanzen-in Temple, we headed straight to Shino-san where the mochi shop was located. Once we found the shop, I went back to the car to get my camera and started taking photos of the scenery. I was wondering why my mom was taking so long, only to find out later that she was busy sampling different dressings at the shop!

Located along a main road near places like Sanzen-in Temple in Ohara, Kyoto, there is a shop with a distinctive white flag-like banner that says "Ponzu." It is clear that this is a shop selling ponzu vinegar. The shop is small, often sold out, and has more staff than customers, making it hard to relax. Despite considering leaving right away, I decided to purchase a 200 yen (excluding tax) ohagi. The size was huge. The sweet red bean paste inside was thin and not very sweet overall.

Director Shinichi Fujisaki of BODYPIT KYOTO here. My mother asked me to buy red shiso for making umeboshi, so I went to Mr. Shino in Ohara for it. The red shiso this year is growing well, according to the staff. I also bought my favorite "shiitake mushroom rolled sushi" for myself. It's incredibly delicious, a specialty in my opinion. I'll enjoy it as a late-night snack!

There is a favorite dressing store along Route 367 that leads from Kyoto City to Ohara Sanzen-in. I visited early in the morning. I parked my car in the parking lot and entered the store... It was still early, so I was alone when I entered, but soon, one customer after another arrived. Here, they handle various items such as local vegetables, rice cakes, ohagi, red konjac, and mackerel sushi, etc. When my family comes here, we buy vegetables, rice cakes, and more, but the main attraction is... yes, the dressing!! This dressing is also sold in department stores and supermarkets, so some of you may have seen it before. The prices are a bit high, but you can try all the products, so you can buy your favorite dressing. Today, I came alone, so I sent a photo of the dressings to my wife and asked her what she wanted. While waiting for her response, I tried many samples at the tasting corner, as many customers were also sampling. (I usually mix dressing, ponzu, sesame sauce, etc. with finely chopped tofu and vegetables, but this time, it was early in the day, so unfortunately, there were only dressing samples.) I tried so many samples until my mouth became sour, and then I received a message from my wife and mother-in-law asking me to buy certain dressings. So, I bought the following items: Sesame Dressing x2, Onion Dressing, Carrot Dressing, Paprika Dressing, totaling 4374 yen for 5 bottles. My favorite is the Onion Dressing, and I also like the Paprika Dressing. The dressings change depending on the season when different vegetables are harvested. One thing to note is that if it's your first time visiting, the products are so delicious that many people end up buying multiple large bottles of dressing. However, they may not fit in the refrigerator, so I recommend starting with small sizes. You can try all the products, so it's fun to sample with someone you like. Of course, other food items are also recommended. In this time of COVID-19, a little refreshment♡ On the way back, I usually stop by Doi Shibazuke Honten to try and buy pickles, which is a standard course. PS If the weather is a little better, if you continue along Route 367 (Mackerel Highway), you will reach Kutsuki Onsen Tenku (super sento), where you can buy grilled mackerel sushi along the roadside and make it a recommended day trip.
