A wine and food bar in the Shijo-Karasuma area where you can enjoy wine and dishes. There are more and more shops that focus on dashi broth. It was very attractive to have the unexpectedness of dashi in a bar setting. What we had: - Spicy marinated octopus and summer vegetables - Kamo eggplant and nama-fu with basic dashi - Chicken tenderloin and quail egg and Kujo green onion ajillo Accompanied by sake. - Orange wine A perfect blend of Italy and Kyoto. It's great to have casual places like this. I am very satisfied. Thank you for the meal.

After finishing work, I decided to have a meal before dropping off my luggage at the inn. When I arrived at 7:30 pm, there were already three women at a 10-person table in the center of the restaurant. I was seated at a table for one, and when I asked if they had half-size portions available due to concerns about the quantity, the waiter replied that while they do offer some dishes in half-size, it's hard to tell how much you'll need, so it might not be enough (laughs). It felt like typical Kyoto-style hospitality. I carefully ordered one dish at a time: Oyster Dashi Jelly for 1200 yen, Vegetable Terrine for 1080 yen, Basic Dashi with Eggplant and Fu for 900 yen, and a Cheese Assortment of 3 types for 1650 yen. I also had 3 glasses of wine (2 white, 1 red). Since there was no wine menu, I had to ask about the options. The total bill came to 7800 yen. It was a great evening as I was able to choose wines that complemented the dishes and enjoy them slowly. When ordering the Dashi, I initially wanted a creamy white wine, but the waiter explained that it wouldn't pair well with the Dashi here, which uses Rausu kelp instead of Hidaka kelp and a light red wine would be better (a bit challenging for a first-time visitor, haha). All the Dashi dishes on the menu looked tempting, and while the Eggplant and Fu was delicious, I wish I could have tried the others as well. The highlight of my trip was having a lively conversation with another group in front of me and sharing the same bottle of wine to end the night.

The food menu was not only delicious but also beautifully presented, making the meal enjoyable. The staff helped me choose a wine by explaining which ones would be easy for a wine beginner to drink and which would pair well with the dishes I ordered. The atmosphere of the restaurant was very nice! The interior had an adult impression and the customers seemed to be on the older side, but everyone was enjoying conversations and it didn't feel tense, so I was able to relax. I struggled a bit with my belongings because they hang coats at the entrance. If you go on a date, be sure to have an escort.

This shop has about 30 types of dashi, which is the first time for me! We went as a couple to this fancy shop. The atmosphere was perfect for dates and girls' gatherings. I had the best experience with the seasoning of deer meat and shiitake mushrooms! The lotus root, tofu, tsukune, and dashi were all delicious! Since I had just been discharged from the hospital, I didn't drink much, so I may have been a bad customer in terms of cost performance. However, the service was good, the location was convenient, and I would recommend this shop!

The night is short, so let's walk, maiden. After hopping between two bars, I ended up here feeling reluctant to return to the hotel. The entrance's neon sign was so cute. I was drawn in by the "alcohol surfing" concept, haha. The last order was right at 9:30 pm. This place seems to specialize in wine and dashi, so I had white wine and fried dashi tofu. The fusion of Japanese and Western flavors was really enjoyable. Cheers to a tipsy night.

I didn't know there was a stylish shop like this here! The perfect balance of wine and dashi was very delicious ✨ I told them I like something like this for wine and they served me a perfect match! There are still more dishes I want to try, so I want to go again.

Three of us from the company visited this stylish restaurant with a setting for about 10 people at the center table, hoping to meet new people. The wine selection is limited to natural wines, with some classic options available as well. Unfortunately, we were unable to see the cellar. We chose a light red natural wine to pair with the dashi-based dishes that the restaurant is known for. The sommelier's selection and explanations were excellent. The cheese selection was impressive, with a recommendation of Sanma and Shabu. The chef's attention to quality ingredients was evident. The final dish, a risotto made with rich bonito dashi and Carnaroli rice, was cooked al dente and had a great texture from the large grains of Italian rice.

The interior of the restaurant is small and a bit narrow, but it is clean and has a calm atmosphere. We made a reservation this time for a friend's celebration because it is always full when we try to go as a second or third place. It is an Italian wine bar that is particular about dashi broth, so the dishes have a creative touch and are all really delicious! It's not the strong Italian flavor, but it brings out the goodness of the ingredients with the dashi broth, which makes you feel happy. The drinks such as champagne, wine, and lemon sour were also very delicious. The seating includes a counter and large tables where you may end up sitting next to other groups, making it great for a casual date or hanging out with friends.

After about a year, I visited a restaurant named after the impactful name of the manager, Ikka Rakui, who had closed down the regretted "sketch." in June 2020. With the concept of "dashi and wine," this unique and talented restaurant combines a bar, traditional Japanese cuisine, and a liquor store. The modern style of gathering around a large table is quite popular. Their specialty fried dashi dishes include 18 varieties, with 6 different ingredients and 3 types of dashi, such as basic dashi, tonkotsu dashi, and daily rotating dashi. It's interesting to compare the taste of each ingredient with different dashi (prices vary depending on the dashi). The menu has been upgraded, making it difficult to choose. I ordered the following: Potato Salad (700 yen) finished with today's dashi (sweet sea bream) and topped with a half-boiled egg, Assorted Appetizers (1980 yen) with 7 elaborately colorful appetizers paired with sake, Fried Dashi with Conger Eel and Shiitake Mushroom (1000 yen) made with the finest shaved bonito flakes selected by "Kyoto Katsuobushi Co., Ltd." and the luxurious dashi made with natural kombu, Fried Dashi with Parma Ham and Fig (970 yen) made with figs in tonkotsu dashi! The unexpected combination is delicious and pairs well with wine. The restaurant was fully booked with reservations, so I definitely want to go back.

Delicious, but the cost performance is not the best. The price for three people is a bit high. It's not a cheap restaurant. For those who drink and eat, the cost performance may not be great. But for those who just want a small snack while sipping on drinks, I can assure you that there are delicious options that will make you happy. Thank you for the meal!

Mr. Rakuiikkai... This popular neighborhood shop is often hard to get into, but when I peeked in, it was surprisingly empty! So I decided to give it a try. The staff was very friendly and the explanations and conversation were very polite. I really liked it. They also have a wealth of knowledge about alcohol, so I'm thinking of visiting again. #Rakuiikkai #LocalEats #LookingForFoodieFriends

On this day's lunch break, I visited a restaurant recommended by my colleague N, where they were offering a special "farewell lunch" due to the lifting of the state of emergency. Upon entering the restaurant, I saw N, who had also enjoyed lunch there the day before. It seemed like she really loved the food. I sat at a large table across from N and ordered the "Shrimp and Seaweed Cream Sauce Pasta" from the daily pasta and risotto menu. The meal started with a simple ham salad, followed by a delicious mini clam dish that N shared with me. The pasta was served in a deep dish, with a generous portion and a side of crispy baguette. The combination of shrimp, seaweed, and creamy sauce was perfect. The meal also included coffee and dessert, which was vanilla ice cream that day. As a special treat, we were given homemade milk-flavored candy, which was incredibly delicious. Overall, it was a satisfying and affordable pasta lunch. The restaurant, Rakuiikkai, recently opened a new branch called "Bubblegum" near Shijo Horikawa, which I am curious to try. I also purchased some cookies recommended by N, which were enjoyed by my colleagues at work and later at home with my husband.

Visited in February 2021 with a rating of 3.09 on Tabelog (6 reviews). Today's emergency lunch series features "Rakuiikai"! The weekday lunch menu offers three options for 1,200 yen each: Pasta Lunch, Prosciutto Risotto Lunch, and Wagyu Hormone and Duck Mabo Mazesoba. I opted for the Mazesoba. The meal included a prosciutto salad, extra rice, coffee, and dessert. The salad had a slightly tangy dressing with ham and cheese. The Mazesoba had thick noodles that provided a satisfying chew. Contrary to my expectations, the "Mabo" in the dish referred to eggplant, not tofu. The dish was not very spicy, but the staff provided homemade chili oil and chili flakes. The eggplant added a nice texture to the dish. The Wagyu Hormone was tender and added a light flavor. After finishing the noodles, I enjoyed a rice dive with extra spice. The dessert was a rich ice cream with black beans and strawberries, accompanied by coffee. Overall, a satisfying meal.

During lunch break on this day, I went to this restaurant that had just started lunch service. It was around 1:00 pm and there were only 2 customers before me, who left while I was looking at the lunch menu. I sat at a large table seat, just like my first visit. The lunch menu consisted of 3 types of pasta, risotto, and mixed noodles set. They also serve game dishes at night, so I thought about visiting with my husband on a Saturday. After some hesitation, I ordered the "Wagyu beef hormone and duck mapo mixed noodles (1,200 yen)". The first dish that was brought to me was a simple salad with crispy lettuce generously topped with prosciutto. It made me feel like having wine right away. And here is the "Wagyu beef hormone and duck mapo mixed noodles". It was elegantly arranged in a stylish bowl, and it was quite filling. The tender and mild Wagyu beef intestines, minced duck meat, fried eggplant, chopped green onions, and fragrant bonito flakes were all beautifully presented. There was also "extra rice" in a beautiful Japanese dish, making it a "belly full course" for sure! They mentioned that you could add their homemade spicy sauce if you like, but the base spiciness was already enjoyable. I mixed the plentiful ingredients and one serving of noodles thoroughly. The mixed noodles were so delicious that they seemed worth 1,200 yen on their own. It had an elegant flavor with rich umami, and I didn't get tired of it until the end. My stomach was already full at this point, but I couldn't resist having the "extra rice". And to top it off, the set also included a great-tasting coffee and dessert, which added to the incredible value. I think the dessert was "red bean and soybean flour ice cream". I was completely satisfied with this lunch set, and now I'm curious about the other lunch menu items. When I shared this lunch experience with my close colleagues, one of them visited the next day and was also surprised by the great value. This lunch is only available on weekdays, and it's uncertain how long it will continue. I would love to try all the menu items at this restaurant. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

On a certain Saturday evening, I headed to a restaurant near a company in Shijo-Karasuma. Previously known for its "Carbonara," Sketch-san was rebranded in June 2020 as a restaurant specializing in "Dashi cuisine and wine," which I had been wanting to visit. I had a gathering at a nearby restaurant starting at 5 pm, so I decided to drop in and use Sketch-san as a pre-meal gathering spot. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was like this, and they also offered game dishes. In the back of the restaurant, there was "kanna.," a reservation-only restaurant offering a Kappo course. I was seated at the edge of a large table and ordered a "draft beer (500 yen)." Transparent partitions were placed for splash prevention. As the other members joined in, we switched to bottled beer from draft beer. I stuck with my draft beer mug and had a bottle beer. I wanted to order some dishes to accompany the drinks, so I ordered the "Assorted small plate appetizers (1,200 yen)." The dishes were meticulously prepared and presented, showcasing the rich umami of the dashi, leaving a good impression. This made me curious about their other dishes as well. However, the enjoyable time passed by quickly, and we ran out of time before ordering other dishes. I definitely want to come back next time for a first round gathering. Thank you for the meal.

A popular Italian restaurant, "Sketch," has closed down and been reborn as this new restaurant. The head chef and sommelier seem to have remained the same. The interior features a large communal table where around 10 people can sit together. The menu offers a variety of creative dishes using various broths, including meat dishes, oden, and pasta. We tried the following dishes: - Buri (yellowtail) carpaccio salad (1200 yen) - Spicy lamb with sauce (680 yen) - Mabo bonus with wagyu beef offal and duck (980 yen)

The chef from the now-closed sketch. has opened a new restaurant with a concept of "dashi and wine." This unique and talented establishment combines a bar, traditional Japanese cuisine, and a liquor store. Their specialty dish is "agedashi" tofu and nama-fu with a choice of 27 different dashi broths, including basic, tonkotsu, and rotating daily options. The menu also features dishes like dashi-infused menma and a potato salad with dashi dressing. The famous Kyoto bonito flakes and natural kombu are used in their dashi dishes. In addition, there is a private counter space called kanna. where guests can enjoy kaiseki meals highlighting the dashi broth. The restaurant also offers a selection of sake.

I visited this restaurant on a holiday night with my close friends. It's the second place we've been to, located a little down from Shijo-Karasuma. The interior is stylish with a large table in the center surrounded by seating. We ordered the following items: draft beer for 500 yen, red grape juice for 700 yen, a medium bottle of lager for 700 yen, shrimp dashi for 750 yen, dashi rolled tonkotsu for 650 yen, prosciutto risotto for 900 yen, dashi udon for 650 yen, wagyu beef hormone and duck mince mapo tofu for 980 yen, potato salad for 650 yen. The dashi-based dishes were interesting, with the dashi flavor and ingredients on display. First, we made a toast! After a short wait, the potato salad arrived with a half-cooked egg and tempura bits, giving it a unique texture. The potato salad was refreshing, complementing the tempura well. The shrimp dashi shrimp had a rich shrimp sauce, while the dashi rolled tonkotsu had a milky tonkotsu sauce, reminiscent of a unique style of oden. The mapo tofu was lighter than expected, made with a dashi base according to the owner. Interesting! Lastly, the risotto and udon we had were incredibly delicious. Overall, the dishes were a great match for alcohol, each showcasing its own unique flavors. It felt like the chef put a lot of effort into the dishes. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

This place has a unique atmosphere with a stylish interior that feels a bit different. Even though their last order is at 9:00 PM, they welcomed us in as normal customers. The clientele seemed quite sophisticated, maybe a gathering of wealthy individuals or people running the place as a hobby? The owner's full name is the name of the restaurant (lol). They serve wine and simmered dishes with a delicious broth, albeit at slightly high prices. The broth is really tasty though! The dishes are elegant yet substantial. The staff and regular customers are friendly and easy to talk to. This is a recommended spot for those who enjoy chatting with anyone.
