I live in Otsu, right next to Kyoto, and there are not many sushi restaurants in Otsu (especially in the Otsu Station-Hamaotsu Station area). I was hesitant to visit a well-known sushi restaurant without any prior experience, but after my daughter, who had been studying abroad for a year, insisted that she wanted sushi, I decided to take the plunge. I did some research online and visited this restaurant. I was nervous before entering, but as soon as I opened the door, the smiles of the chefs made me think, "Ah, I'm glad I chose this place." In my limited experience, restaurants with good customer service also have delicious food. Perhaps it's because they pay attention to the customers. This particular restaurant was outstanding. Every dish we had was delicious, the place was clean, and the prices were quite reasonable. I'm grateful to my daughter for wanting sushi.

First of all, the sashimi was very delicious. After that, we ordered a variety of dishes individually instead of a course, and everything was so delicious and made us happy!! The yellowtail melted in my mouth and was the best I've ever had. We went to celebrate a birthday, and they wished us happy birthday and the service was very pleasant. I would love to visit again! Thank you very much (*´-`)♡

We reserved a private room for 5 people and chose the 10,000 yen course. The food was delicious from the appetizers to the grilled shad roe. The conch was cooked perfectly and the sashimi and sushi were also excellent. The seafood chawanmushi had a rich broth and was very tasty. The vinegar dish was a bit mild, so we added extra vinegar. We were very satisfied with the sea bream roe and the pregnant sweetfish. I highly recommend this place.

It was my first visit to Emo-san in Gion, Kyoto! I went with friends for a New Year's party. The sushi was very fresh and the rice was excellent, making it delicious! The restaurant has a counter and tables in the back. The owner was very friendly and the atmosphere was cozy. It was very delicious! Thank you for the meal!

I couldn't get a reservation at my usual restaurant in Pontocho, so I found a similar one to visit. Overall, it was okay. I ordered the 8,000 yen course. The grilled nodoguro that came out first was delicious, but the presentation of the sashimi and sushi was lacking. There were similar dishes served one after another, like sashimi to eat with soy sauce followed by sashimi to eat with vinegar. I wish they had varied it more on one plate. The miso-grilled dish was also tasty but a bit too big. The flavors were not bad, but I wish they had been a bit more creative. The hostess's service was pleasant. I would like to visit the counter again.

This might be my highest score ever for a review. Emo Sushi is a traditional and cozy sushi restaurant. The starter of yuba is exquisite. The grilled shirako is recommended next, crispy and fragrant. The simmered anago is tender and goes well with the sauce and nori. The nigiri sushi is made with incredibly fresh ingredients and perfectly sized shari. The prices are reasonable and the service is friendly. The flavors are top-notch, making you wonder how they can offer such quality at such a low price. I've decided to visit again!

Sushi restaurant located along the main street, 10 meters from the Chion-in Temple intersection. Visited with a reservation for 2 people at 18:30. No prior customers, 2 groups arrived after us. The interior is modern and clean, with a few seats at the counter and several tables (semi-private). The chef manages the place alone, with cooking done in the kitchen. We opted for the counter seats as it is a sushi restaurant. The menu is not extensive but not too limited either, with slightly high prices. The chef is friendly and engaging, but it can be difficult to order casually. The sushi pieces are small and not boat-shaped. The rice is warm and not overly seasoned with vinegar or sugar. The fish is fresh and cut well, but the display case is a drawback. With limited options, it can be challenging to decide on orders. The bill came to 20,000 yen for 2 people, which is quite high. Given the location near Chion-in Temple, I recommend sticking to set courses to avoid unexpected costs. - Ordered Items: - Grilled Hamaguri (standard portion, average taste) - Ebi Tempura (high price but well-fried and tasty) - Hamo Otoshimaa (nothing special) - Tsukiyaki (recommended by the chef, unique taste) - Ikasashi (ordered with salt, adjusted with yuzu, delicious) - Tai no Kobujime (lacked "guji" but still tasty) - Zuke (more like simmered than marinated, disappointing) - Uni Murasaki (served as nigiri, delicious) - Anago (requested with salt but served with sauce, good but salt would be better) - Drinks: 4 beers, 1 plum wine with hot water.

This place is highly recommended. They prioritize freshness of ingredients over profitability. They value human connection. It's a great restaurant filled with the owner's various passions for their work. If you want to treat someone special to delicious food, this place is perfect. I searched on Tabelog for a good sushi restaurant near Higashiyama and visited this restaurant. A friendly couple has been running this restaurant with a 35-year history (the husband is the second generation). I ordered the lunch menu (1500 yen) which came with sashimi and grilled marinated tuna. The tuna was grilled well over charcoal and served with green onions. Very Good!! The sashimi and sushi rice were excellent. The couple mentioned they had been to Austria, and they can handle foreign customers well.

I wanted to have a leisurely meal, so I visited this restaurant. I made a reservation for the lunch course, which includes the famous marinated tuna grilled over charcoal, for 3,000 yen. When I entered the restaurant, I was warmly seated at my table. The first floor has counter seats and table seats, and it is cozy. We sat at a table where we could see a small courtyard. There was only one other group of foreign customers in the quiet restaurant. The lunch course is by reservation only, limited to 5 groups per day. The course includes appetizers, sashimi, chawanmushi, the famous marinated tuna grilled over charcoal, 5 pieces of nigiri sushi, and red miso soup. Everything was served freshly and in good timing. The appetizer was silky smooth tofu skin. The sashimi was fresh and delicious. The chawanmushi was elegant and tasty. The marinated tuna grilled over charcoal was light and tasty, not as heavy as I expected. The nigiri sushi was perfectly sized, melting in the mouth with each bite. The sushi chef's skills were evident. The red miso soup with tofu was seasoned with a hint of sansho pepper. Everything was delicious, and I enjoyed a quiet and leisurely meal. The restaurant is located near Yasaka Shrine and Chion-in Temple, easy to find along the road in Gion. It is a sushi restaurant that is not too formal, with affordable lunch options. I recommend it for a casual sushi dining experience. Thank you for the meal.

Hello! I recently had a soy milk foam ice at "Kichijokaro Gion Store" and then decided to have lunch at the neighboring "Gion Emon" restaurant after being drawn to the menu they had displayed in front of their store. The menu that caught my eye was the Special Lunch limited to 10 servings, the "Charcoal-grilled Oshizushi Set" (marinated tuna). I couldn't resist the idea of having charcoal-grilled marinated tuna from a sushi restaurant in Gion! Even if it was sold out, I thought I could still enjoy a tuna bowl. Despite it being Saturday lunchtime, the restaurant was surprisingly quiet with only one group of customers, and the limited 10 servings of the charcoal-grilled Oshizushi Set were still available. I ordered the Charcoal-grilled Oshizushi Set (1500 yen) which included rice, miso soup, yuba sashimi, assorted sashimi (salmon, amberjack, sea bream - 2 pieces each), and charcoal-grilled marinated tuna (3 pieces). Let me start by saying that the lunch was quite impressive. It was better than the rating on the top page of Tabelog (as of August 2, 2016, currently 3.11). Now, here's the review: Food (4.0 stars) - Charcoal-grilled Oshizushi Set Yuba sashimi with wasabi soy sauce, a nice Kyoto touch. - Assorted sashimi Salmon, amberjack, sea bream - all fresh and delicious, typical of a Gion sushi restaurant. - Charcoal-grilled marinated tuna Marinated in soy sauce, sake, ginger, and mirin perhaps? No fishy smell, and grilling it just right enhances the tenderness and flavor. Make sure to grill it well to fully enjoy the charcoal-grilled goodness. If you're looking for a fresh fish lunch in the Gion area, this is a highly recommended spot. Service (3.7 stars) Very polite and attentive service. Atmosphere (3.7 stars) For sushi lunches or bowls, you can sit at the counter, but for charcoal-grilled dishes, you'll be seated at a table. The place was quiet, allowing for a relaxing dining experience. Value for money (3.8 stars) Considering the individual charcoal grills provided for each person and the quality of the sashimi, the Charcoal-grilled Oshizushi Set (1500 yen) is quite a good deal. Overall, Gion lunches are usually crowded, but this restaurant was surprisingly quiet. It's a rare find in Kyoto for a good quality, reasonably priced fish lunch, making it a worthwhile spot to remember.

I went to a restaurant recommended by a friend because they said the fish was incredibly fresh and delicious. The friend had been there many times and praised the variety of dishes, even though it's a sushi restaurant. I was excited to try it out! I had some errands in Gion at lunchtime, so I went there on my way back. The restaurant is easy to find as it faces a main street. It has a luxurious feel with a counter, tables, and private rooms at the back. We were seated at a table, and there was a lovely garden inside. The grilled fish lunch was popular, so both of us ordered that. First, the charcoal arrived! It looked like yakiniku, but we were grilling fish. The dishes were served on a plate, and it was amazing! From sashimi to grilled fish to yuba. The price was quite reasonable at 1500 yen, considering the variety and quality of the food. The sashimi was indeed fresh, and the grilled fish was a new experience for me. The tuna was so tender and delicious when grilled. The staff mentioned that the grilled fish is also popular at night. There are many other menu options, and I've already decided what to try next. They also have a wide selection of drinks, so I look forward to going back at night to enjoy some drinks with their delicious food. Thank you for the meal. I will definitely go back again!

We had a few drinks at a bar, then decided to walk around and found this sushi restaurant. We prefer casual places where we can eat good sushi without feeling too formal. The restaurant had a counter and comfortable table seating with a view of a miniature garden. We ordered a deluxe sushi set and some other dishes like tempura and sashimi. Everything was delicious, especially the fatty tuna. The staff was friendly and attentive, making it a great birthday meal. My wife even suggested we celebrate my birthday here next time!
