I visited the restaurant on a Saturday night around 8:50 PM. Contrary to the information on Tabelog, the last order was at 9:30 PM and the restaurant closed at 10 PM, so please be aware of that. There were two groups of foreigners at the table seats and two solo customers at the counter (one of them was a foreigner). Looking at the menu, there were mostly udon and soba dishes, not many appetizers. I ordered the "slightly tipsy set" for 1,070 yen, which included the "appetizer set" (usually 580 yen) and a medium-sized draft beer. First, the beer arrived, followed shortly by the appetizer set, which on that day consisted of two dishes: simmered scallops in soy sauce and simmered bamboo shoots in bonito broth. For my last dish, I ordered the "fried curry udon" for 960 yen. The portion was a bit small, but the bowl was filled with curry udon. The curry was quite spicy, and the udon was very soft, typical of Kansai-style udon. The dish had green onions and fried tofu as toppings.

For the past few months, I've been craving hot soup stock, but during this season where everyone is choosing cold dishes, I finally decided to visit a restaurant and order hot soup stock. I knew that curry or dishes with thick sauce would make me sweat even more, so I chose the "kitsune udon set". It had udon noodles, white rice, a side dish, and pickles. You could also upgrade the white rice to mixed rice for an additional fee. Despite the hot weather, I didn't end up sweating excessively while enjoying the hot soup stock, it felt like it was seeping into my body. The mixed rice was just right in flavor, not too bland or too strong. I will definitely visit again!

The "Beauty Set" for 1300 yen was delicious. It included table udon with shredded mountain pepper rice, bamboo shoot stew, and pickles. There was a notice in the restroom saying, "Please don't expect firmness in Kyoto udon. It's not as firm as Ise udon, but the delicious broth makes it soft and smooth to blend well." I couldn't help but smile when I read that. I like both firm Sanuki udon and soft Osaka Namba's Tempolice udon, so no problem there. The udon that arrived had a soy sauce-colored broth with a strong salt flavor and a rich taste. The udon noodles were not too soft, and I enjoyed them. The rice portion was larger than expected, almost like a rice bowl! It was more flavorful and colorful than Ise in Kyoto or Imai in Namba, which was surprising but delicious.

The restaurant had a mix of international customers and seemed popular among people from various backgrounds. Although it wasn't too crowded when I visited, the service was a bit slow. However, the udon noodles with generous portions were incredibly delicious! The tempura was also crispy. I would definitely want to go back to this place.

I visited the restaurant on Friday, April 15, 2022, during lunchtime, and there was a note outside saying that it might take some time due to the crowds. There were 6 customers inside when I entered. I ordered the luxurious curry udon. It took about 15 minutes for the dish to be served, but it looked really fancy with a standing shrimp. It wasn't as spicy as I expected, more on the mild side. I cracked a soft-boiled egg on top to enhance the mildness and finished every last bit. It might be one of the best curry udon in Kyoto. It was delicious!

The flavor of the curry udon was very spicy, but it was mentioned that the spiciness level can be adjusted during non-peak hours. The regular curry udon had just the right amount of spiciness and was very delicious. The oyakodon (chicken and egg rice bowl) was also very tasty with the eggs being perfectly runny. The pictured tanuki udon had a homely taste and was also very good. The atmosphere was welcoming and family-friendly, with easy access from Shijo Kawaramachi. Highly recommended! I would love to visit again.

For 90 years since its founding, this restaurant has been observing the changes in Kyoto's era on the same land. They are particular about their unique and rich broth made from water, and their Kyoto-style thin noodles. Their toppings include shrimp tempura, chicken, soft-boiled egg, and Kujo green onions. The curry is a homemade blend. The interior of the restaurant features traditional tables and counter seats.

A while ago, at the end of last year, I really wanted to eat curry udon, so I visited this restaurant that I had been curious about. It was my first time trying curry udon in Kyoto. It was light and very delicious! The mixed rice was also very tasty, so I naturally ordered a large serving. I will definitely come back again!

Aged curry rice bowl for ¥880 with extra large serving for ¥110 was filling. It tasted better than expected. The aged tofu was sweet and had a great flavor. Thanks to the sauce, it stayed hot for a long time. However, for some reason, I didn't feel like coming back to have the same curry rice bowl like I did at another restaurant. The broth was not bad. I decided to try the tempura curry udon next time. The interior of the restaurant was clean, new, and tidy.

I think the first time I went there was about 6 or 7 years ago, after a company party. While everyone else had curry udon, I remember having kitsune udon. I was craving curry rice for lunch, but the nearby soba restaurant had raised their prices, so I ended up here. As I looked at the menu, I was overwhelmed by the variety of options. In the end, I chose the "fried curry udon set" from the lunch menu. The set included fried curry udon, rice, a side dish (simmered hijiki seaweed), and pickles. I upgraded the white rice to mixed rice for an additional 110 yen. The curry udon here is made by thickening curry powder with potato starch. It's been a while since I've had this type of curry udon, and it brought back memories. The udon was not too soft like the ones often found in Kyoto (which I'm not a fan of), but it wasn't too firm either. The broth was not particularly strong, maybe because it was curry-flavored? The mixed rice had a rich color but was not spicy and tasted good. I could have just stuck with white rice since it was curry, but I wanted to try the mixed rice as well. It was a lunch of double carbohydrates.

There is a shop located south along the river from Keihan Sanjo. It is a Kansai-style udon restaurant. Inside, there are table seats and a counter. Since it was a bit early, we were able to enter without waiting. We ordered curry udon with plenty of ingredients and nabeyaki udon. Both dishes come with large shrimp tempura. The curry udon had a nostalgic flavor with a strong curry powder taste. The nabeyaki udon had a Kansai-style broth, perfect for warming up in the upcoming season.

I had a delicious meal with sake at "Muromachi Kaji" and then took the Hankyu line from Karasuma to Kawaramachi, just one stop away, to stroll around the night streets of Kyoto. I was thinking of grabbing some udon or something to eat before heading back to the hotel and as I was walking in this area, I decided to enter "Miyoshi" if the opportunity arose. There was only one other party of two customers already seated. When I was about to sit at a table in the back, the staff guided me to a seat next to the other customers. Even though the place wasn't crowded... I ordered a cold (room temperature) sake and some "itawasa" as a snack. The sake came quickly, but the "itawasa" that should have come out quickly didn't arrive. When I asked about it, they said they hadn't heard me. I decided to forget about it and just eat some udon and leave quickly. My partner ordered "kake udon" and I ordered "kitsune (kizami) udon". The udon was chewy and had a nice broth. The kitchen started to get busier with the arrival of a group of four foreign tourists and a solo customer after us, but the food came out fairly quickly. The kitchen staff seemed to be an older couple, perhaps the owner and the lady of the house? The service from the person in charge of customer service was a bit lacking, which left a somewhat disappointing impression, but if they were just temporary workers, it's understandable. It seems like many people order ramen here because there was a sign at the entrance saying "Ramen is not available". It's common to find udon (soba) shops that also serve delicious ramen. (Visit date: 3/26)

When I visited Kyoto on a trip, I happened to stop by a udon restaurant and ordered the recommended curry udon. Kenkoba also seems to recommend this dish. When the dish arrived, I was surprised by the luxuriousness of the tempura shrimp! The tempura was crispy and delicious! At first, I thought there might be surprisingly few shrimp, but by the time I finished eating, I was quite full and satisfied. The curry was not too heavy, making it very easy to eat. The udon noodles were soft rather than chewy. There was a poster in the restroom explaining the restaurant's commitment to using the delicious water in Kyoto, which made me understand why the noodles were made soft. I would definitely want to visit this restaurant again when I come back to Kyoto.

I found this restaurant near Sanjo Ohashi Bridge while sightseeing and decided to give it a try. The "Zenbunose Curry Udon" was delicious.

I casually walked into an udon shop in Kyoto. It was located along the river, a leisurely walk from Kawaramachi Station. The comforting Kansai-style flavors were satisfying.

It was a representative Kyoto curry udon (●´ω`●) with crispy shrimp, chicken, soft-boiled egg, and curry with a flavorful dashi broth. You can walk there from Shijo Ohashi.

I had chicken curry udon. It was a bit salty, but adding sansho pepper is the style of this restaurant, so I tried it. The curry and sansho pepper mixed well together, creating a delicious sansho curry. I recommend always adding sansho pepper.
