Today's lunch was eel curry at "Spice Curry Kiteretsu" in Nishiin. It's Saturday, July 15, 2023. This is my first visit since the end of April. I saw the monthly menu and noticed the eel curry day, so I made a web reservation a week ago! I was looking forward to this visit. Arrived at 12:59. Got called at 13:07. Entered the restaurant, sat down, placed my order. The curry arrived at 13:19. Paid the bill at 13:34 and left. I had the Summer Eel Special for 1800 yen with extra rice for 100 yen, totaling 1900 yen. The menu included four types of curry: Chicken Curry, Corn Potage Curry, Shrimp Keema, and Eel Keema. The eel keema, placed at the center with an egg yolk, was delicious as always. I enjoyed alternating between the three curry roux, and the Corn Potage Curry was especially amazing with its coconut flavor. I added extra spice with the chili powder on the table and ended up sweating but fully satisfied after finishing the meal. Thank you for the delicious meal. #SpiceCurryKiteretsu #Nishiin

46th dish. The saury biryani costs 1300 yen, and with extra coriander for 100 yen, it's 1400 yen. It's not curry, but the biryani is delicious! And the portion of rice is generous. The saury is served as a whole fish, cut into chunks maybe? There are also shrimp included, as well as side dishes, so it's quite a deal. They warned me about the bones in the saury, but when eating fish alone, I usually pick out the bones, but in biryani, I don't mind. I find it too much trouble to remove watermelon seeds, so I eat them as they are. So, I can handle saury bones by chewing them. The staff might find it off-putting, though. When saury is grilled well, you can eat it from head to tail, so no problem there. I missed out on eel meals yesterday due to a sudden work call. I was regretting not being able to go to my favorite North and South Indian restaurants this month, but there seems to be a chance to go to an izakaya on the 23rd. I wonder how it will turn out.

The 45th dish. The shrimp meal costs 2000 yen + egg pickles 150 yen, totaling 2150 yen. It's quite a luxurious price, I thought. But surprisingly, the portion is huge. There are more side dishes compared to the previous meal. As usual, you can get refills for rice and small dishes. But I was too full to have seconds. There are too many small dishes compared to the rice. And then, there are additional side dishes on a separate plate!!! The amount is excessive. The content is autumn-themed, with ingredients like Nameko mushrooms and persimmons. It was delicious. I always eat the shrimp with the shell, so I ate the whole fried shrimp. The female staff member looked injured, I hope she gets better soon.

44th dish. Autumn fish meal for 1700 yen + sardine biryani for 300 yen totaling 2000 yen. I forgot to take a picture of the biryani which was served separately. It was delicious! I wanted to have more of the sea bream broth rasam and rice, but I always end up full from the meal and the biryani. It's only been a week since I last went, but I already feel like I'm missing out. Starting this month, I'll be a bit busy and won't be able to attend the South Indian, North Indian, and World Curry events. It's heartbreaking. I'll keep the same frequency of visits, but maybe I'll go to a quirky izakaya somewhere instead.

Dish 43: Seafood Biryani for 1900 yen with extra coriander for 150 yen, totaling 2050 yen. Originally planned to go to an izakaya for lunch, but they announced a curry menu a couple of days ago on Instagram. So, I changed my plans and had lunch there instead. It was delicious! It had three large prawns, octopus, and salmon roe. The green chili made me sweat a lot. Will have to postpone izakaya plans to September. Not being able to go to North India is painful.

Dish 42. Chicken 65 Biryani for 1200 yen with Egg Achaar and extra coriander for 100 yen each, totaling 1400 yen. The Biryani is so easy to eat and I love it. The Chicken 65 is also incredibly delicious. I'm curious about the white side dish. Was it a bit spicy? It would have been nice to add some green chilies on top. Seriously, everything I tried was delicious! To get such a tasty Biryani without any toppings for 1200 yen is amazing. I also bought some spices on the second floor before leaving. The lineup for next month has been announced, and it's amazing. I want to go there every day. Even the izakaya. I'm not sure if I can make it to the 24th for the izoncurry event.

41st dish. Unagi Tamago Biryani for 1810 yen + Shrimp Pickles for 100 yen + Extra Coriander for 100 yen, totaling 2010 yen. I tried to pay, but before the bill came, the waiter said something to me, and although I didn't hear it at all, I just replied with "yes, yes," and the bill came to 1960 yen. I'm not sure what happened, but the food was delicious. As I was eating, I was surprised by a sudden burst of wasabi-like flavor, which was fun. The extra coriander didn't make the dish look good for photos, but it was delicious! I want to go to an izakaya for dinner tonight, but the rain is a bit of a concern. Maybe it will be less crowded because of the rain. However, it's far away. I also want to ask about the mysterious 50 yen discount. But I have work tomorrow. Maybe I should go on the 31st. I'm torn.

40th dish. Shrimp meal for 1810 yen + egg pickles for 100 yen, totaling 1910 yen. The shrimp feast was too delicious! I fumbled with the papadum before taking a picture, resulting in a slightly awkward position. I'm sorry for not doing justice to the chef's presentation. The shrimp bisque was full of shrimp flavor, reminding me of the sweet shrimp shell stew I had at Occobe. And the papadum has evolved. I'm not sure how it evolved, but it's different from before. I think. I'm just an amateur, so I'm not sure, sorry if I'm wrong. I got carried away. And recently, the chef has been eagerly waiting for (SNS information) dishes that are easier to eat! The slight curve on the edge is exquisite. Maybe I've gotten better at eating meals?

I enjoyed various types of curry at this restaurant, where the owner puts a lot of effort into making them. The South Indian curry was delicious, but my favorite was the shrimp masala. The use of spices was excellent and it was incredibly tasty. Thank you for the meal! 🍛✨

39th dish. European-style & Hayashi Katsu Curry for 1810 yen + fried egg for 100 yen, totaling 1910 yen. It was my first time trying Hayashi, and it was top-notch in taste. Delicious! The European-style Katsu Curry was a rare treat. It was so tasty! And it was loaded with meat. Even with a normal portion, I was stuffed. It seems like the European-style dish is popular, as when I got my ticket at 10:40, there were already 7 groups waiting, and by around 1 pm, it was sold out. Even on a weekday. Is it summer vacation? Bon holidays? Everyone seems to be coming all at once! Well, as long as I can eat, it's all good. Maybe next time I'll try the shrimp meal? Let's go to an izakaya next week.

The type of curry is automatically determined daily. Today's curry had the restaurant's name in it. It was a Sri Lankan curry that has been further arranged by the owner, developed independently in Kyushu, and is touted as the only Sri Lankan curry that can be eaten in Kyoto. It has a lightness similar to soup curry, yet with a strong spice flavor. It doesn't have much richness, but the lemon served with it adds a refreshing deliciousness that complements the curry well. The chicken was tender and had a satisfying texture. The aroma of chopped coriander also enhances the curry. I ordered medium spiciness, and although it didn't taste spicy at first, I started sweating a bit after eating for a while. There was a powder with extra spiciness on the table, so you can add more if you want to change the flavor, but it didn't seem to alter the taste much. The initial impact when eating was honestly not very strong, but it might be fun to visit multiple times to conquer various types of curry.

Today is the 38th dish. I had the South Indian curry for 1710 yen, with extra coriander and green chili for 150 yen, totaling 1860 yen. It's been two months since I last had South Indian food due to traveling, so it felt really spicy this time. But it was amazing. I think I sweated more than ever before. I remember talking about sweating during bar business, so it was a bit embarrassing. Of course, I wiped off all the sweat with a handkerchief before leaving. I went to a bar earlier, so it's a bit embarrassing to be sweating like this during the day. Hmm, I'm thinking of going to the bar business now. But I have work tomorrow. I'm torn.

38th dish. I wanted to say that, but today I finally got to go to the izakaya. My wife had the curry rice, so 38 is fine, but since it was mainly about the alcohol, I had to hold off. Potato salad, coleslaw, spiced shrimp, grilled lamb, masala omelette, tandoori chicken. That's all for the photos. The curry rice will be posted later if I remember. By the way, it's a genius curry rice with coconut shrimp curry and mackerel curry. My bill for the drinks I had and the driver's soft drink came to 8900 yen. Huh? Are you sure that's not a mistake? I drank quite a bit. Is the bill just for me and not a mistake? I didn't check, but if it's short, I'll pay. Please bill me when we go eat South Indian food. We got too excited at the counter, drank too much, and couldn't eat the fried rice or the mentaiko tamago kake. Maybe we should make the izakaya a regular thing. So, it was my first time at the izakaya. We started off with a lot of food menu items, so it was a bit chaotic, but I was able to chat with the manager when things calmed down. It was good to be able to talk about Nico4. The fate I feel I have. I eat out regularly, but I don't usually become a repeat customer, so this place is probably my No. 2 spot after McDonald's in my almost 40 years of life. I want to go there every day.

37th dish. Kiteretsu Meals for 1610 yen + Egg Pickles for 100 yen, totaling 1710 yen. Adjusting the portion to eat normally today, after overeating with extra rice last time. There are 3 types of free refills, but I'm so full. The food is consistently delicious as always. Starting this month, no reservations are accepted. I arrived at 11:00 and there were about 10 people waiting. I realized that if I come at 10:30, I can definitely get a seat. Looking forward to visiting again this month. I feel like going to an izakaya next time.

35th dish. Shrimp meal for 1910 yen + egg pickles for 100 yen + lemon rice change for 100 yen, total 2110 yen. It was my first time trying the shrimp meal. It had a lot of shrimp in it, and you could even eat the whole angel shrimp. There were so many ingredients that I ended up getting a small rice refill. It was a visually extravagant and satisfyingly delicious lunch. I feel like I'm getting better at eating it little by little. I prefer one plate meals because it's easier to decide.

34th dish. Western-style curry and seasonal tempura for 1510 yen. The seasonal tempura curry was delicious. It really made me feel like summer. Young corn, zucchini, eggplant, and more. No flavor change in the dashi today. It was delicious. Also, I saw an interview with the owner of the shop where Kiteretsu is located on Instagram stories the other day. It gave me goosebumps. I feel like it's fate, even though the owner probably doesn't think so... When I showed this article to my wife, she was like, "That's crazy!" I really can't help but feel like it's fate! No, I have to tell the owner about this fate I feel, even though I'm too shy to do so. The next time I go to the izakaya, I want to say it! I'll bring my wife, who can talk to anyone easily. Yeah, I can't help but feel it.

33rd dish. Summer eel special for 1800 yen. Last week, I was drinking and missed the reservation start time, but when I hurriedly checked around noon after the day changed, the 2 PM slot was just available, so I made a reservation immediately. Phew~. So, do eel and curry go well together?! With creativity always surprising me with sake lees, tempura, etc., the sweet and savory eel kabayaki mixed with potage curry was delicious whether eaten separately or together. And the side dishes were just too good. Ah, I want to eat here again tomorrow. The regular customer sitting next to me today seems to come here more often than me. He even mentioned coming at night too. There's always someone better. He talked about how reservations run out, but well, that's just the rule set by the restaurant, so I'll follow it. I won't change how often I eat here since I can always get a meal if I line up for a numbered ticket. I'm debating whether to go tomorrow, even though it's last minute. Maybe I'll try lining up early in the morning~.

31st dish. First time trying North Indian curry for 1800 yen. Isn't North Indian curry supposed to be milder? Well, it was easy to eat. While waiting after visiting the restaurant, I saw on social media that it was spicy. Yep, it was spicy. I finished it all sweating once again. And then, the person next to me who entered at the same time was taking pictures of something. Turns out they are a curry enthusiast I follow on social media! Of course, being shy, I couldn't bring myself to say that I follow them. The day after tomorrow is the first anniversary of a personal milestone, so I'll be going again. Of course, I'll bring a handkerchief to wipe off the sweat. I was thinking of having a beer, but after eating a hearty plate today, I won't be able to drink beer. So, I'll just go for a second plate of North Indian curry. Oh, the other day I went to the Fujiko F Fujio Museum, maybe I should have bought a new Korosuke figure for the anniversary.

Visited with a reservation made the night before, there was one slot available. Worried about a long wait for the queue ticket, but the South Indian special curry turned out to be delicious beyond expectations. Despite the high level of spiciness, all the sauces were incredibly tasty. Even mixing it all together tasted great. The flavor and aroma of lemon and yogurt were also delicious for changing the taste. Even as someone who dislikes cilantro, the balance of flavor and aroma was so good that it didn't feel out of place. I would like to try other menu items as well. The price is slightly high.

30th dish. The meal is 1610 yen, and Chicken 65 is 300 yen, so the total is 1910 yen. Today, I had the meal, so I didn't add extra coriander or green chili. I ended up getting extra rice, rasam, and sambhar, even though I usually don't get refills because I get full easily. The curry was left over, so I got a half-size rice refill. It was delicious as always. The coconut shrimp curry with a hint of ginger was amazing. The side dishes were also incredibly tasty. I can imagine how great the izakaya-style dishes would be at night. Snacking on dishes like these while drinking and finishing with curry, sounds perfect. The Chicken 65 was also very tasty, but it's like having two large pieces of fried chicken, so maybe it could be a bit cheaper. I think I'll still end up ordering it though. If I increase the portion size, I won't be able to finish it. I'm disappointed that I can't make it to the three consecutive days of South Indian food starting tomorrow, but it seems that July 12th is my personal Kiteretsu 1st anniversary. If you look at the initial post, I was quite cheeky. I had a reservation for North Indian food on July 10th, but it's a special occasion, so I have to go. I also made a reservation for July 12th. Not a change, but an addition. It's a special day, so I might take a bus and have a beer alone. I'm considering it. The menu for the meal seemed to have been renewed or something, and I kept saying that I didn't know how to eat it. Maybe my constant confusion reached the staff, because now there are instructions on how to eat it. It's great, but I'm not sure if I'm eating it properly. Personally, I want to eat it more elegantly. I felt a bit embarrassed when I got a rice refill. No, but that's my fault, so in terms of the restaurant's response, it's perfect, right? There's no other restaurant that writes down how to eat the meal. It's not normal.

29th dish. Meat Day Plate for 1710 yen. As always, it was delicious. Lots of chicken, two types of curry were perfect! The keema is truly genius. I really want them to teach me the recipe. I could eat keema for the rest of my life. Today, there was almost no line probably because of the rain, sorry for being a little late for my reservation. It was a rare 12 o'clock reservation, so I didn't sit at the usual counter at the back, but at the front. I sweated a lot again and finished my meal. They must think I sweat too much! July has a variety of menu items. I'll do my best to keep going. Looking forward to North Indian cuisine.
