Recently, shaved ice prices have been high and portions have been large, but at Toraya An Stand, you can get a reasonable price for a just-right amount! Add condensed milk as a topping! The red bean paste and sweet jelly are just like Toraya! It's delicious... I'm not a fan of chunky red bean paste, but I love the smooth sweet bean paste here!

I arrived at the shop and there were about 3 people in line ahead of me. The atmosphere of the shop is welcoming but it feels a bit rushed. I ordered the matcha shaved ice. The matcha flavor was rich and paired perfectly with the sweet red bean paste. The yokan (sweet jelly) was also delicious and had a nice texture. I recommend it to anyone visiting Shinjuku.

Limited-time shaved ice cafe hopping on hot days is the way to go! Ordered items: Matcha shaved ice 990 yen, Strawberry shaved ice 990 yen. The matcha was incredibly rich and paired perfectly with the sweet red bean paste. The yokan was delicious as well, and as someone who doesn't like overly sweet things, I found the balance of toppings and portion size to be just right. The strawberry was made with puree, so it had a nice sweet and sour taste without being overly sugary. The only downside was that the shiratama (rice flour dumplings) were a bit too powdery and hard. I didn't get the condensed milk topping, but I regretted it after the first bite. We waited for about 15 minutes in line around 3:00 pm. The seating is limited, but they offer takeout for all items. When it's crowded, there is a 60-minute time limit for seating. The staff asked if we wanted takeout while we were waiting in line, and they mentioned that they could serve it right away.

I had never tried the sweets from Toraya before, but it was a shop I wanted to visit. It was a small shop, and there were already several groups lined up. I waited for about 15 minutes before entering. Although I had wanted to try the anko toast the day before, the heat was too much so I ordered shaved ice with condensed milk instead. The napkin with Toraya's tiger design was cute! The shaved ice itself was not the crunchy type, but had a nice texture and the sweetness of the condensed milk was just right, not too overwhelming, with a refreshing sweetness that didn't overpower the red bean paste. It also had sweet bean jelly and rice cakes on top, and the rice cakes were really delicious! They were chewy! Even though I'm not a big fan of shaved ice, I really enjoyed it. However, it was a bit pricey at 900 yen. Considering that shaved ice with lots of fruit can cost around 1200 yen, it does seem a bit expensive. Next time, I want to visit in winter and try the anko toast or sweet red bean soup.

Summer limited shaved ice available for takeout. The selling point seems to be the red bean paste topping, perfect for souvenirs. I chose strawberry flavor, but the syrup and ice were honestly average. The white mochi topping was also average. However, the red bean paste had a refined sweetness that complemented the ice well. Overall, it was worth the price.

It's summer, so I was drawn to shaved ice. The shaved ice here has Toraya's sweet bean jelly and smooth red bean paste on top, which is my favorite! This year, they have three flavors: strawberry, matcha, and condensed milk. All of them come with sweet bean jelly, smooth red bean paste, and rice dumplings. The matcha flavor is delicious with red bean paste, and the strawberry flavor uses amaou syrup, which is also delicious! The seating is limited, so there is often a line, but the turnover is fast so the wait is not too long. They also have takeout items available in the store!

[Access] There is a traditional Japanese confectionery shop on the 2nd floor of Newman Shinjuku, within 5 minutes from the south exit of Shinjuku Station. [Operating hours and store] This time, I stopped by at 1 p.m. on a weekday. When you enter the store, there are 8 people dining in the eat-in area. The interior is bright and has a casual Japanese atmosphere. There are counter seats and table seats available, and you can also take out. - Eat-in area available - Self-serve water - Self-serve cleanup [Ice Matcha / 991 yen / tax included] In the bowl, there is ice, smooth red bean paste, Toraya's yokan, and shiratama, all topped with a rare Uji matcha sauce made with Japanese sugar. It looks cool and refreshing. But the bowl is made of paper? It would have been better if it was a cool glass bowl instead (laughs). The ice is like fresh snow, and it melts in your mouth instantly. Oh, it disappeared in a flash. The sweet matcha sauce without bitterness stimulates your taste buds. Oh, it's delicious. The smooth and sweet red bean paste goes well with the ice. And the yokan is just unfair. Mmm, it's delicious, of course. [Staff] The staff are elegant and provide polite service. [In conclusion] This is a casual Japanese sweets shop by Toraya. The eat-in area is not very spacious, so it's more of a place to eat quickly and leave. Well, it's shaved ice, so you have to eat it quickly before it melts... Ice is a must on hot days like in 2023. It's also impressive that there are many foreign customers. Thank you for the meal. - Station: Nearby - Queue: None - Ambiance: Casual Japanese - Price: Inexpensive - Specialty: Red bean paste Rating on Tabelog: 3.62 No. 21072023

Many people were ordering condensed milk, so I followed suit and ordered it. The condensed milk was mildly sweet and delicious. The white dumplings were chewy and delicious, so I added 3 more for 111 yen. When I dipped the red bean paste in the white dumplings, it was just right, and I felt that the large amount of red bean paste was meant to be eaten with the white dumplings! (Personal assumption) I felt it was a waste to see people leaving behind the expensive red bean paste and black sugar yokan when they purchased.

The new south exit of Shinjuku Station. The shaved ice stand Traja An at the first floor of Newman was starting to serve shaved ice. There is Toraya Karyo at Isetan nearby, and I also like Uji Kanjou there, but the shaved ice here has fluffy ice that is full of air, making it have a good texture. And starting from today, they have a strawberry shaved ice that is not available at Toraya Karyo. Tanaka also loved it. I'll go for that. They generously pour Amaou strawberry puree over the mountain of ice, with red bean paste, sweet jelly, and mochi served on the side. The puree is the star here, not the syrup, so it has a fragrant and powerful taste, turning the table into a strawberry field as soon as it arrives. It is sweet and sour, with natural flavors. It spreads smoothly in your mouth with the ice, leaving a refreshing aftertaste. They provide water, but you won't need it because the flavor is just right. The red bean paste is also soft, not just in texture but also in sweetness. It melts smoothly with the ice, creating a unique sensation of the ice melting into a red bean flavored ice. The brown sugar-coated sweet jelly has a nice elasticity. It is chewy, then melts in your mouth. The mochi balls are firm, with a chewy texture. Your chilled tongue will be gently refreshed by the shaved ice, making you smile gratefully. The ice here won't give you a brain freeze. It has a gentle coldness... I love it.

At Toraya Cafe, they serve sweet shaved ice with plenty of red bean paste and a side of yokan. The ice is slightly coarse. They use unbleached beige disposable paper containers. The cafe is located outside the station and has limited seating, so it can be challenging to find a seat during busy times and you may end up sharing a table with others.

It's the season for shaved ice, and I wanted to eat some. The combination of matcha ice with red bean paste and yokan, and smooth white dumplings, is the best. It's delicious because it's hot outside. Strawberries are good too, but matcha was the right choice. It's sweet, but the bitterness of matcha makes it tasty. Thank you for the meal.

I visited this place located outside the 2F ticket gate of NEWoMan. Upbeat Western music is playing inside the store. I ordered "roasted green tea" and it was served quickly. The seating is limited so reservation is necessary. The taste is calming but the drink had a lot of ice and a small amount.

In the late Muromachi period, a traditional Japanese confectionery shop called "Toraya" was founded in Kyoto. They have a cafe located right near Shinjuku Station, perfect for meetings! The interior of the cafe is decorated with drawings of tigers. Here's what we ordered: - Anmitsu Parfait [Matcha flavor] - Anko Toast [White sesame and roasted soybean flour & sweet red bean paste] - Anko Paste Cafe Au Lait The Anmitsu Parfait [Matcha flavor] is available until June 8th! It's filled with plenty of Uji matcha and anko paste, with a refreshing lemon agar on top. The Anko Toast [White sesame and roasted soybean flour & sweet red bean paste] is available until July 6th! It's great that you can enjoy two types of anko paste. The combination of anko paste with cafe au lait was also delicious!

I stopped by before they run out, and bought some anko cookies in matcha flavor, along with sweet bean paste buns and white bean paste with roasted soybean flour buns. Despite the effort to prevent the bean paste from sticking, it still ended up on the bag. However, the buns had a soft and moist texture, and the smooth bean paste from Toraya was exceptional. It's a bean paste bun like no other! Thank you for the meal!

On Friday, it was 20 degrees Celsius with light rain. I went shopping at Takashimaya in Shinjuku South Exit. I took a break and ordered the trendy An Paste Matcha Latte for ¥740. It had distinct layers of milk, matcha latte, and sweet red bean paste. When you mix it up to drink, it has a uniquely delicious taste. The flavor changes depending on whether you drink from the top or bottom of the straw.

Shinjuku Station South Exit. After work, I took a little break at Traja An Stand near Newman. The location is convenient and the casual atmosphere makes it easy to enter, but the seats are often full. Luckily, I was able to find a seat smoothly on this day. I ordered the limited-time sweets "An Parfait (Matcha)" until June 8th, and it appeared in a cute mini size. It's a small but rich dessert made with Uji matcha, matcha cream, matcha tuile, lemon agar, lemon zest white balls, sugar-coated pine nuts, milk ice cream, and an paste. Despite its small size, it was packed with ingredients! At 901 yen (tax included), I thought it was a bit expensive, but the taste was rich and I felt surprisingly satisfied after finishing it.

I used the cafe in the evening on a regular day. The coffee was delicious and just to my liking. The parfait was luxurious with yokan in it. The lemon shiratama had lemon peel in it, which gave an interesting texture, but it was difficult to fully taste the lemon flavor because it was eaten with the red bean paste. However, the matcha ice cream was rich and satisfying. Thank you for the meal!

It was at Shinjuku Station. I wanted to eat in, but it was full so I got takeout instead. They had a limited-time menu item available for takeout, so I ordered it. It was an anko muffin, with anko paste sandwiched inside. To avoid it being too plain, they added cream cheese and apricot jam for different flavors. However, the muffin itself was crumbly and hard to eat. Maybe a regular anko cake would have been better? I might go back to compare. Thank you for the meal! (*'ω'*)

I've always wanted to visit this shop! It's located near Shinjuku Newoman and Takashimaya. It's always crowded, so I never had the chance to go until now. I arrived around 1 pm during Golden Week and it wasn't busy, so I finally got to visit! For lunch, I ordered toast and a drink separately. The toast looked delicious, but it was small...! It was compact, less than 10cm on each side. And it cost around 600 yen...! But the main part is the sweet bean paste. I got the regular bean paste and white sesame paste. I was curious about the white one, but it turned out to be butter. The bean paste was refined and the sesame had a nice aroma. The bean paste was sweet and delicious. I also ordered a hojicha with sweet bean paste, which was a gentle and easy-to-drink tea with a hint of sweetness. I had always been curious about the sweet bean paste, so I was satisfied to finally try it. It would make a great gift for bread lovers. Next time, I might get a takeout. It's nice that this long-established shop offers a way for those unfamiliar with traditional Japanese sweets to enjoy them in a casual setting.

The new south exit ticket gate at JR Shinjuku Station is located to the left as soon as you exit. Red bean paste and butter really do go well together. There were various products for sale inside the store. It may not be a place to relax, but the red bean paste toast is delicious. Thank you for the meal.
