This is a lovely cafe located on the way from Yasaka Shrine to Kiyomizu-dera. Inside, the cafe has a glass wall that allows you to see the beautiful garden. The seating is spacious and the atmosphere is very relaxing. The drinks are simple but the cafe makes you feel luxurious. I would love to visit again.

Gion-Shijo Station on the Keihan Line is about a 15-minute walk away. I visited Cafe Kawataro in Kodai-ji Temple. Formerly a cooking inn, Kawataro has been reborn as a cafe. It is housed in part of a former residence of the Meiji-era industrialist Yoshibei Murai, with a traditional Japanese garden that remains unchanged since the Meiji era. Inside, there are spacious and bright seating areas with panoramic views from the windows. You can enjoy tea while looking out at the garden. The menu includes coffee, tea, juices, cake sets, parfaits, and ice cream. There is also a set menu with matcha and traditional Japanese sweets. I felt very happy enjoying a warm coffee while admiring the fresh greenery of the garden in this spacious environment. Encountering such a lovely cafe during sightseeing can make all your tiredness disappear. The coffee was delicious too.

After visiting the grave, we stopped by "Cafe Kawataro". It's a bit hard to find, located on a narrow slope slightly west from Nene-no-Michi. It used to be a ryokan (Japanese inn). Once inside, you can see the garden and feel the relaxed atmosphere. We had matcha parfait for two. The parfait had a buttery cake at the bottom. Also had matcha latte (comes with a small snack) and pink grapefruit frozen drink. It was quiet and we were able to relax leisurely.

I wandered around Higashiyama during the New Year's holidays and decided to try out a cafe that my friend found. Wow, what a lovely cafe with a beautiful space! I wish my camera was better so I could have taken even more beautiful pictures. The interior and garden were so nice that I regret not being able to capture them better. The staff's service was a bit cool, I hope they could be a bit warmer. The drinks we had this time were pretty ordinary, but the atmosphere was wonderful. The base colors are beige and black, with a glass front and a small sign displaying the name of the cafe. The atmosphere is calm and relaxed. Inside, there is a large room with a view of a small garden in the back, creating a cozy space with a white and brown color scheme. One side facing the garden is made entirely of glass doors to enjoy the greenery fully. I tried the smoked salmon sandwich and Darjeeling tea. The bread was soft and fluffy, with smoked salmon, onions, lettuce, and cream cheese. The rich flavor of the cheese and the aromatic smoked salmon created a golden combination. The Darjeeling tea had a rich aroma and a refreshing taste. I learned that this place used to be a ryokan, which connected the dots in my mind about the name Kawataro. The only downside was that the tea was served in a cup instead of a pot. Despite the relaxing atmosphere, it may not be ideal for long stays due to turnover rates. The location and slightly higher prices are also worth considering.
