The portions were generous, the alcohol was delicious, and the flavors were great. However, each piece is large and wrapped in pork belly, so ordering too much may be heavy for those who are not used to oily foods. But the taste is really delicious. The atmosphere was also nice.

I ordered by scanning the QR code with my phone. The grilled skewers with lettuce, shrimp, Kujyo negi, and cheese were really delicious. There were also many meat options like beef fillet and heart, which I thought were as delicious as those at a yakitori restaurant. Overall, it was delicious.

We visited this restaurant for the third time. We didn't have a reservation and arrived about 2 hours before closing, so we had to wait for about 30 minutes to be seated. However, it seemed like they had a separate counter for groups of 2, as we were a group of 3 and had trouble getting in. It made me feel sorry for the customers waiting behind us, who were also in groups of 2. It might be better to make a reservation if you have a group of 3 or more. The dishes were creatively presented and the drinks were interesting. The skewers were definitely delicious, but the steak we ordered was disappointingly large and not what we expected.

I made a reservation and visited the restaurant at 9 pm on Monday. The place was bustling and lived up to its reputation. I was able to enjoy stylish and delicious skewers after a long time. Every dish I tried was delicious, making it a great choice for dates or business meals. The fresh kimchi was especially tasty.

This is my first time here. The craft beer I ordered, Yamada Nishiki, was delicious! The edamame appetizer was also tasty with a flavorful seasoning, and it went well with the beer. I don't usually eat a lot of edamame, but I couldn't stop eating them this time. The raw kimchi was a new experience for me, and its unique texture was delicious! The risotto for the main dish was just the right portion size and price, and it was also tasty. If the alcohol prices were a bit cheaper, I would have liked to try more drinks... Maybe next time.

After visiting the Kyoto Aquarium, I decided to stop by this restaurant on a Sunday evening around 7 pm without a reservation. Luckily, they had a two-hour seating policy and were able to accommodate us. It's a popular spot, so making a reservation in advance is recommended. The restaurant has locations in Kyoto Shijo Torimaru, Kyoto Pontocho, and Lucua Osaka. I visited the Pontocho branch this time. Here's what we ordered:
- Edamame appetizer for 330 yen per person
- Corn tempura for 430 yen
- Tuna and green onion yukke for 693 yen
- Lettuce wrap for 330 yen
- Okra wrap for 280 yen
- Asparagus wrap for 380 yen
- Sweet potato wrap for 300 yen
- Half-cooked egg roll for 320 yen (comes with two rolls)
- Tsukune sauce for 260 yen
- Bonjiri for 200 yen
- Chicken thigh for 180 yen
- Beef Harami for 480 yen
- Camembert cheese for 240 yen
- Mango grated sour for 490 yen
- Sake highball for 490 yen
The prices may vary, and all the prices mentioned are for one skewer. We had a few drinks, and the total came to around 4000 yen per person. The location near Kawaramachi in Kyoto is a bit pricey. They only had Black Nikka highball, and since there's a branch in Osaka, I probably won't revisit. I love the streets of Kyoto. Overall, the service, price, atmosphere, and taste were all average. If you have any recommendations for good restaurants in Kyoto, please let me know! 😊

I tried looking for a reasonably priced place to eat in Pontocho and decided to give this place a try. The interior has a traditional Japanese house feel to it. It's quite spacious and the air conditioning works well, keeping it cool inside. I was hoping for something light to eat, but it seems like they have mostly rich dishes. I ordered some food and it turned out to be more modern cuisine. Personally, I won't be visiting again.

I went for the yakitori but every dish was delicious!! Even the edamame appetizer was tasty... I'm not a fan of shellfish but the scallop risotto was so delicious (*´艸`) I brought my friend here for their birthday and they were very happy ☺️ Thank you for the meal♀️ Next time, I'll bring my husband along‼️✨

Kyoto was much more crowded than I had expected, and I couldn't find a place to eat lunch. So, I started with some oden and standing drinks at Pontocho before coming here. There was one group of customers ahead of me, but the service while waiting was very polite. Everything I ate was delicious, and the sizzling sound and aroma of charcoal added to the lively atmosphere. The rolled skewers were tasty, and I could even enjoy some vegetables. The Kamo eggplant and seafood gratin had plenty of seafood and went well with the miso. And all of this was in the 500-600 yen range, which is incredibly cost-effective. If this place were nearby, I would definitely come here often, not just when traveling.

Around 7:00 pm, visited with 2 people. Enjoyed the quaint stone-paved streets and atmosphere of Pontocho from Shijo Street towards Sanjo Street. The restaurant is located right across from "Pontocho Kaburenjo" on Sanjo Street. They also have another branch called "Shijo Karasuma Store". The interior of the restaurant has a capacity of 12 counter seats and 3 tables for 4 people each. The seats were about half full at the time of our visit.
[Dishes we tried]
★ Seared Chateaubriand Nigiri Sushi
As a special year-end and New Year's limited deluxe menu, they had "Seared Chateaubriand Nigiri Sushi". The words "Chateaubriand" and "limited" immediately caught our attention and we placed an order. The searing was just right, and the subtle fat of the meat mixed elegantly with the rice, melting in the mouth simultaneously. This is a highly recommended dish.
★ Cold Pork Shabu with Lots of Green Onions
Another dish that we highly recommend. The green onions were cut diagonally slightly larger, enhancing the crunchy texture. The ponzu sauce had a perfect balance of sweetness and acidity.
★ Kujo Green Onion & Cheese Roll (Cheese Sauce)
This was also delicious. It is the most popular dish at the Pontocho store. Kujo green onions wrapped in pork and finished with a sticky cheese sauce. The combination of the tender texture of the pork and the crunchy texture of the Kujo green onions is fantastic.
★ Soft-Boiled Egg Roll
Soft-boiled eggs wrapped in pork, cut into halves, and each piece is seasoned differently. You can enjoy two different flavors in one order of rolled skewers.
★ Tomato & Cheese Roll
Out of curiosity, we ordered this dish to see how grilled tomato wrapped in meat would taste. Surprisingly, the warm tomato was delicious, enhancing its sweetness.
★ SAKE Highball
A highball made by diluting Japanese sake proposed by Yellow Cherry Blossom with carbonated water. Although some sake enthusiasts may consider diluting sake with water as sacrilegious, the base is "ordinary sake" rather than "special designation sake". I ordered it as a way to enjoy sake in a different way. It is a refreshing drink where you can feel the flavor of sake lightly.
We also tried various skewers such as "beef tongue", "chicken thigh", "tail", "gizzard", and finished with "rice ball tea pickles".
[Overall]
The dishes are delicious, but especially focusing on the "vegetable-wrapped skewers" is the key to enjoying this restaurant. Being in Pontocho, it's natural that there are few disappointments, but the food was very delicious, and I discovered new flavors. Thank you for the meal.

The food was decent, but it was quite expensive even though we didn't order much. I was surprised at the bill because we only ate a little and it didn't really fill us up. It's important to go with someone who won't over-order on drinks. The cost performance was so bad that I probably won't go back.

On Saturday night, the popular restaurant in Pontocho was fully booked even for a 5:30 reservation, but my daughters really wanted to go. It was my last night in Kyoto, so I made a reservation, but we still had to study. Both of them don't drink alcohol, and even though I'm not good at drinking, I felt a bit lonely not drinking. So, I drank alone and instead of alcohol, I ordered generously. Everything was delicious, and I got carried away with ordering. I was full by the end. Thank you for the feast!

Visited a restaurant with a former colleague in April 2019. We both left our previous company last year, with my colleague moving to Kyoto a few months after I did. Since we had shared both good and tough times at our old job, we decided to take a short trip to Kyoto before the Golden Week crowds. We arrived late on the first day, so we just did some sightseeing and had a meal. We didn't have a specific place in mind, so we let my colleague choose the restaurant. He said he wasn't very familiar with the area, but that was no problem for me, as I used to just follow others around before I started using food review websites. This trip was meant to be a comforting get-together for us in our new environments. We ended up at a restaurant in a traditional Japanese house specializing in grilled skewers. My colleague recommended the lettuce wraps, which were a good choice for us since we had both gained a bit of weight due to stress from our previous jobs. Each skewer was substantial and delicious. I liked that we could choose between steamed and grilled skewers. The homemade potato chips served as an appetizer were also tasty. Over drinks, my colleague shared how he was adjusting to his new job title and responsibilities, while I talked about the ongoing challenges at my project. It was a great evening catching up with my colleague, reminiscing about the past, and gaining inspiration for the future. Grateful for the good times.

Today, I came to Kyoto for a trip. I explored during the day, and at night, I visited the lively Pontocho alley, where every shop looks delicious and I always get excited. For dinner, I went to Manten-san for grilled skewers. I called to make a reservation and a friendly lady answered, luckily I got a reservation for 8 PM! When you enter from the Shijo side (Mitsukoshi), the shop is located on the left towards the end. The walk through Pontocho alley is charming, with many eateries in narrow alleys making the walk enjoyable. I even encountered a Maiko while walking, truly experiencing Kyoto travel to the fullest! The restaurant, housed in a renovated old house, was stylish and trendy. The first floor is mainly counter seating, while the second floor has tables and tatami rooms. We were seated at a table on the second floor, and it seemed like we were the only two Japanese customers among many foreigners. The complimentary starter was homemade potato chips, which was unique. I enjoyed various meat-wrapped skewers, such as lettuce wrap for 270 yen, chive cheese for 290 yen, and kimchi tartar for 290 yen, each with its own delicious twist. As a fan of lettuce wraps, I was very satisfied and will definitely come back again! The atmosphere of Pontocho alley is also fantastic!

I have used it about 3 times! There is always a image of foreigners lining up! All the skewers are delicious!! It may take a while for the order to come as it always seems busy! It might be good to order all at once!! I will use it again if I have the chance! Thank you for the meal!!
