I tried the popular "18-item breakfast" at this restaurant. I made a reservation through their website for 10:00. The reservation secures you a set of the 18 breakfast items. If you can't make a reservation, you can still try the breakfast by lining up on the day of. However, it can sell out by around 9:30. When I went, the 18-item breakfast was already sold out, but there were still some people waiting in line. If you have a reservation, you will be seated right away. The tables had "Reserved" signs on them. Since I was alone, I was seated at a counter seat without a "Reserved" sign, facing away from the window. The breakfast is mainly rice porridge, but I requested the 13-grain rice instead. You can have seconds of the porridge and rice. The menu is written on the table mat. The food was delicious, with a variety of side dishes to enjoy. However, the seating arrangement was not ideal, and it lacked the special feeling of dining at a temple. After 10:30, it became less crowded, and some solo diners without reservations were seated at tables. The lunch and cafe menus also looked tasty, so I thought it might be better to visit during a quieter time instead of insisting on the 18-item breakfast.

I stopped by after eating my way through Tsukiji Outer Market. The restaurant had a spacious layout with plenty of room between tables, making it a relaxing environment. I had planned to have coffee, but since there were no pictures of coffee on the menu, I decided to try the matcha latte instead. I had never tried matcha latte before, so I didn't know what to expect. In hindsight, I should have just stuck with coffee. The food menu seemed extensive and satisfying, so I would like to visit again someday.

I was lucky to make a reservation, so I went to have breakfast. The small dishes have a little bit of everything, so I'm not sure where to start ^^ There are descriptions of the dishes under the small dishes, so it was fun to eat while wondering what each one was. I tend to prefer less salt and milder flavors, but overall, I found the food to be on the salty side. Thanks to that, the rice porridge went down easily. You can have seconds of the rice porridge, but I was already full! This time it was breakfast, but next time I would like to try the cafe and have a parfait or something like that ⭐︎

I had breakfast at Tsumugi Cafe in Tsukiji Honganji Temple in Tokyo. Their specialty is an breakfast set with 18 small side dishes and porridge, but reservations are required. If you can secure a seat, you can enjoy this meal for 2200 yen, which includes Japanese tea. Becoming a member of Tsukiji Honganji Temple allows you to receive discounts, and you can earn points every time you visit, which can be redeemed for goods. The temple itself has a unique foreign temple-like atmosphere, and enjoying breakfast while taking in the surroundings is a sensory experience. The porridge is served with delicious side dishes such as duck meat and octopus, as well as pickled plums and spicy cod roe, all of which complement the porridge perfectly. A wonderful breakfast experience with no room for disappointment!

I visited the restaurant around 1 pm on a weekday. Despite the large, bright, and spacious windows, the place was crowded. However, I was called in about 5 minutes after writing my name. I sat down and ordered the miso-marinated mackerel. While sipping on water, I waited for about 10 minutes before the dish arrived. It came with three small side dishes and looked very appealing. The miso soup was incredibly delicious, with a deep and flavorful broth. The rice was just the right texture, not too sticky, and the portion was quite generous. The potato salad in the small dish had a fine texture and the smoked mackerel was firm yet easily breakable with chopsticks, perfectly cooked. It had a flavor that paired well with the rice. Overall, it was a delicious set meal. The portion size was average, but each dish was tasty. I also enjoyed the atmosphere of dining while overlooking the Higashi Honganji Temple.

I had the long-awaited "18 Dish Breakfast (with Japanese tea)" at the popular Tsukiji Honganji Temple Cafe Tsumugi, located right near Tokyo Metro Tsukiji Station on a Sunday morning from 8 am, all by myself. I made a reservation online over a month in advance, and finally got to enjoy it as the first customer! The restaurant was bustling with a long line of customers even before it opened at 7:40 am. Luckily, those with reservations had a separate line and were able to wait comfortably on the terrace outside. The breakfast was a hit, and there was a chance that those without reservations might not get to enjoy the 18 dishes. The restaurant interior was spacious, bright, and beautifully designed, with a high ceiling and a jazz soundtrack playing in the background. I was seated at a large counter table for five, which was perfect for me dining alone. The table even had power outlets and USB charging ports, which was a great convenience. The breakfast itself consisted of 18 dishes, including various side dishes, rice porridge, and miso soup. The flavors were gentle and the dishes were mostly soft and easy to eat. I particularly enjoyed the plum pickles, black beans, and assorted fruits. Overall, it was a delightful breakfast experience in a lovely setting with delicious food and great service.

Hello, this is Numao. I had breakfast at a café located on the grounds of Tsukiji Honganji Temple. Even 30 minutes before opening at 7:30 am, there were already nearly 10 customers lined up. By the time it opened, there were about 40-50 people gathered, showing how popular it is. About half of them were customers with reservations, so I had to wait a bit before being seated, but it only took a few minutes. There were two breakfast menu options, both looking delicious, but I chose the specialty "18-item breakfast." It included classics like pickled plum, rolled omelette, and simmered kelp, as well as duck, minced eggplant, and salmon roe, allowing you to taste a variety of side dishes in small portions, which was delightful (*´▽`*). It's not strictly vegetarian since it's at a temple, but it's still healthy. You can even get a refill of rice porridge for a healthy option. According to my research, it's around 700 calories in total (lol). It was a satisfying breakfast that filled both my stomach and heart. Thank you for the meal.

On the day of going to Kabuki-za, I had a late breakfast at a cafe located within the precincts of Tsukiji Honganji Temple. It was 10 in the morning. I exited the metro at Tsukiji Station and immediately entered Honganji Temple. On the left side facing the temple buildings, there was Cafe Tsumugi. I got a reservation ticket and had to wait for 3 groups ahead of me. After 10 minutes, my number was called. I ordered the "18-item breakfast" that I had my eye on. It was brought to me 15 minutes later. The tray was filled with small dishes. Octopus, duck, shrimp, yuba, tamagoyaki, tarako, eggplant, lotus root. Various ingredients were grilled, fried, and simmered. There was also dessert. They say you eat with your eyes first, and that was truly the case. I enjoyed the meal with my eyes and then with my taste buds. It was a satisfying late breakfast. Thank you for the feast.

I finally tried the morning set that I have been wanting to try for a long time. It is served at a cafe located on the grounds of Tsukiji Honganji Temple, a temple affiliated with the Jodo Shinshu Honganji-ha sect in Kyoto. The morning set includes 16 side dishes, a soup bowl, and rice porridge, totaling 18 items, all inspired by the 18th vow of Amida Buddha. The presentation of the dishes was impressive, with each small dish labeled with its name. I was a bit overwhelmed at first but enjoyed trying out the various dishes. Despite not being a big breakfast eater, I found the meal to be quite satisfying and worth the price. Afterward, I headed to Asakusa for my next adventure.

I visited around 1 o'clock on a weekday. It wasn't very crowded, but it took 40 minutes for my set meal to be served. I had nothing else to do this time, so I could wait, but it would have been better if they had informed me that it would take 40 minutes when I placed my order. I could have ordered other items while waiting. Was it just poor timing? It was disappointing.

I visited on a Sunday morning without a reservation, as I couldn't book online the night before. I ended up waiting for over an hour and was finally called at 10:30, which was the end of the serving time for the "18-item breakfast" I wanted. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to order anymore, but luckily I could. The breakfast set included rice porridge, miso soup, 16 side dishes, and tea. The side dishes included items from Tsukiji like truffle omelette, and they were delicious.

I have been here about 6 times already and I always leave feeling refreshed. They offer a variety of matcha and hojicha sweets and drinks, as well as original tea blends, which is great. You can select your tea according to your mood. I love the hojicha latte with all the black honey added. The ozenzai is delicious as is, but you can also change the flavor by adding the strong matcha provided. They also have art books, so I was able to enjoy the traditional tea house atmosphere while flipping through the pages.

I made a reservation about 3 weeks in advance because I had plans nearby in the afternoon. Even without a reservation, I was able to get in with a short wait around 8:30 on Sunday. By the time I left at 9:20, there was quite a line forming. You can choose between an 18-dish breakfast and a breakfast with grilled salmon from Tsukiji temple, but most people come for the 18-dish breakfast. You can choose between hot and cold tea, and they provide cold water, so I recommend trying the hot tea to enjoy the aroma. You can get seconds of the rice porridge. If you pay close attention to the explanations of each dish, you'll notice that there are several dishes from famous, long-standing shops in Tsukiji. It's nice to be able to taste a variety of delicious Tsukiji dishes in small portions. I particularly liked the seaweed and mentaiko, octopus with salt koji, and miso soup with myoga. Depending on the season, the menu may vary. While waiting, you can relax and enjoy the view of Tsukiji Hongan-ji temple. There were surprisingly few foreigners, so I recommend it to tourists visiting Tsukiji.

I had the soy meat bibimbap Buddha bowl. The flavor was a bit strong, but it was delicious. However, even though I came alone, there were plenty of empty seats at the counter and tables, yet there were quite a few people waiting.

Visit date: July 9, 2023 (Sun) Tsukiji food finale (lol) Finally, we visited a cafe located inside Honganji Temple! I came across this cafe in a Tokyo cafe guidebook, which introduced a breakfast set with many dishes, and although it is only available during the morning hours, we decided to give it a try. The restaurant was full of customers, so we took a waiting ticket using a touch panel. They had a system where even if your number was called and you were not there, you could still be prioritized for seating when you returned and called out to the staff. We waited on round chairs provided for waiting customers. When we made the reservation, there were 11 groups ahead of us. After waiting for about 20 to 30 minutes, we were seated at a round table for four by the window at the far end of the restaurant. There were also counter seats, so I assumed that if you came alone, you would be seated at the counter. We were given menus, but orders were placed using a QR code. I ordered the seasonal peach and Shinshu Kogen milk shaved ice for 1485 yen including tax, while my companion ordered a hojicha jelly drink! The restaurant was spacious and busy, so it took a bit of time for our orders to be prepared. In the meantime, they provided books for us to read freely, and I read a few during the wait. The shaved ice was quite large, with shaved ice, sliced peaches, and whipped cream layered in that order. Additionally, a separate container included a traditional Japanese sweet like arare, and Shinshu Kogen milk for dipping. The taste of the sliced peaches and peach sauce was more like processed peaches rather than fresh ones, which was not to my liking, but the combination of whipped cream and peaches made for an elegant and delicious dessert. As is common with shaved ice, towards the end, the ice melted and became watery. The hojicha jelly drink was delicious! It had a subtle sweetness that allowed you to enjoy the flavor of the tea, and the jelly had a strong tea taste. When the straw hit the jelly, it was hard to suck, but with a strong pull, the jelly broke up and could be consumed (lol) (There were also long dessert spoons available, so you could scoop and eat it!) After a hot day of food hopping, it was nice to relax indoors and cool off while enjoying dessert. Thank you for the meal! Next time I visit, I want to try the matcha jelly drink or a dessert with matcha ice cream.

I aimed for a breakfast with 18 small dishes and visited on a Sunday morning. Since I couldn't make a reservation, I arrived 30 minutes before the 8:00 opening time. There were 5-6 groups waiting in front of me. The breakfast with 18 dishes is limited to the first 20 people without reservations. Unfortunately, I couldn't make it in time. Those without reservations cannot sit down on the first round and have to wait for a ticket for the 9:00 seating. I waited for an hour and a half, finally got a seat, and found out that the breakfast with 18 dishes was canceled! I enjoyed the breakfast plate I was looking forward to and savored each dish. It was a very enjoyable breakfast, but the wait time for those without reservations and the fact that it took over 30 minutes to get a refill of porridge left me feeling disappointed in terms of service.

After attending a Buddhist service at Honjoji Temple in Tsukiji, I headed to the cafe on the premises for a break. The menu was as extensive as ever, but on this day I opted for cream anmitsu instead of kakigori. It consisted of a combination of matcha and vanilla ice cream with a rich red bean paste ball and white mochi as accents. The sweetness was just right, making it a perfect match with green tea. Delicious! Thank you for the meal.

For breakfast that day, I decided to eat at the café in Tsukiji Honganji Temple. Even though they accept online reservations, I couldn't get one so I ended up lining up in the morning. It took about 2 hours until I got to eat. The main attraction was the 18-item breakfast set. I had seen it in a magazine and was curious about it. The sight of all 18 items lined up together was impressive. The meal consisted of rice porridge with various side dishes like pickled plum, seaweed, and spicy cod roe. There were also dishes like duck and octopus sashimi, yuba with salmon roe, and simmered taro. For dessert, there were fruits and matcha jelly. Rice porridge was free for seconds, so I didn't hesitate to ask for more. I was quite hungry, so I finished it all quickly. I enjoyed some cold green tea while waiting for my stomach to settle. After breakfast, I strolled around Tsukiji Honganji Temple and thought about heading to the market. Thank you for the meal!

The lovely café inside Tsukiji Honganji Temple is always bustling. I ordered shaved ice because it was a hot day, and it was delicious with natural ice. However, it was disappointing that the staff's response was not great. I was seated at a crowded and noisy table, so I asked if it was okay to sit at another available table, but the staff seemed clearly unhappy. Since it was before I had even sat down and the table I was originally seated at was the same as the other available table, I don't think I caused any inconvenience to the restaurant. The café is not cheap, and it is located within the temple grounds, so I expect a more considerate customer service.

I wanted to visit Tsukiji Honganji Temple, so I went inside to explore. The mysterious and uniquely Japanese exterior was very impressive. It is both a temple and a place for religious ceremonies, so it's best to be respectful. Next, I visited Honganji Cafe! The building was also beautiful, with full glass windows that created a great sense of openness. Since the cafe specializes in tea, I ordered tea. I visited on a weekday afternoon and it was packed with tourists. I ordered the covered tea (hot) for 500 yen. They had a wide variety of teas, which tea lovers would appreciate. Everyone seemed to be ordering the chilled green tea. They also had roasted green tea and Japanese black tea. It was delicious. They also serve iced coffee. Each tea has a different brewing time, so they provide an hourglass for timing. The green tea I ordered came with a 1-minute hourglass, so I made sure to brew it properly before drinking!
