While exploring Demachiyanagi Station, where Keihan Electric Railway and Eizan Electric Railway stop, I came across a shop selling Ajari mochi! The shop was located within a store in the shopping street that deals with rice and beans, so for a moment, I wondered if it was okay and if I was being deceived (laughs). Knowing that Ajari mochi is delicious, I decided to purchase it (¥119 per piece). The staff were friendly and even accommodated my request for individual pieces with a smile. Ajari mochi has a good shelf life, but I personally prefer to eat it on the day of purchase. The outer skin is soft and stretches when pulled, making it easy to eat. The size is also convenient. It was delicious! Thank you very much. I will visit again. * They offer individual pieces as well as boxed sets for gifts.

While heading to Demachiyanagi Station from Daikokuya, I unexpectedly came across a sign for Ajari Mochi in a shopping street. I couldn't resist and ended up buying 5 pieces as a snack. I decided to enjoy them on the Shinkansen. The sweet red bean paste had a familiar taste and the mochi skin was chewy with a nice texture. I ate two pieces while sipping on bottled roasted tea, feeling satisfied and full. However, I realized that without a drink, it can be a bit tough to eat.

Famous Kyoto confectionery, Ajari Mochi, can be found at Matsuya Shokuhin store in Demachi Masugata Shotengai. This traditional sweet is well-loved in the Kansai region for its perfect balance of red bean paste and mochi. If you haven't tried it yet, be sure to pick some up in Kyoto! I never expected to find it at this store in Demachi Masugata Shotengai, but their quality keeps getting better. Highly recommend!

On the west side of Demachiyanagi Station, there is a grocery store in the shopping street selling Ajari mochi. The store sells regular groceries in the front, but also has a sign for Ajari mochi. Ajari mochi is made of red bean paste wrapped in rice flour and baked. It costs 108 yen per piece. They sell them in boxes of 10, but also offer single pieces and are friendly even for small orders. I bought 2 pieces (¥108 each) and enjoyed the soft and chewy texture on the outside and the red bean paste inside. Demachiyanagi is known for Demachi Futaba's bean mochi, but it's convenient to be able to buy Ajari mochi here without going to the main store.

Next to Matsuya grocery store in Masugata Shopping Street, there is a shop called Mangetsu that sells freshly made items without the need to wait in line like at department stores. My family often uses this shop as there are no long queues and we can buy items made on the same day. When my relatives from Osaka visited Kyoto, they were unable to purchase the items they wanted, so I decided to visit this shop with them. This time, I bought a box of 10 Ajari mochi for 1188 yen, with an additional 108 yen for the box. Of course, you can also buy individual pieces without the box, making it convenient for everyone. The Ajari mochi is well-known for its chewy skin and delicious red bean paste filling. My relatives were very happy with the purchase and enjoyed it as soon as they arrived. Overall, Mangetsu is a convenient and hidden gem in the shopping street, so I recommend keeping it in mind along with the popular shops like Demachi Futaba.

Hello, this is Average, currently strolling around Demachiyanagi. I enjoyed delicious croquettes at Okada Shoten, famous bean daifuku at Demachi Futaba, Ajari mochi at Matsuya Shokuhin, and saba sushi & kitsune udon at Manjukuya. While exploring the shopping street, I saw the comedy duo "Masuda Okada" filming for TV. I was worried if I bought enough famous bean daifuku, so I stumbled upon Ajari mochi and decided to purchase it.
Food (⭐️3.5) - Ajari mochi is a Kyoto specialty with a chewy skin and sweet bean paste inside. I like the chewy texture and often enjoy this Kyoto delicacy.
Service (⭐️3.5) - Polite customer service.
Atmosphere (⭐️3.5) - Located in a shopping street, it's easy to stop by and enjoy.
Value for money (⭐️3.5) - Ajari mochi 1 piece (108 yen) is cheaper when bought individually without the box.
Overall, I bought Ajari mochi at Demachiyanagi this time, but if you want to enjoy it fresh and hot, I recommend visiting the main store. They also have parking available for those coming by car.

I visited when I went to Demachiyanagi. Next to Futaba in Demachi, there is a shopping street called Masugata. If you go straight ahead there, it's at the corner in the middle. The Ajari mochi, highly praised by a reviewer from Kanto, is located there. I used to think of daily manju as a souvenir, but it seems to have become quite popular nationwide. As a Kyoto reviewer, I'll post a review in a slightly niche place. You can also purchase just one piece here, so it's convenient to buy it together with Futaba. My impression after trying it again after a long time... It's delicious, but it didn't really impress me ^^; Thank you for the meal♪

This is Demachiyanagi Station on the Keihan line. I came to Demachiyanagi after a long time. The weather is nice, isn't it? At the end of the year, there was a huge snowfall that caused the road to be closed from Kyoto Minami to Ritto. It was a surprisingly cold day. Today, let's go to the Masugata Shotengai shopping street in Demachi. This shopping street has a retro feel to it. It's very calm and peaceful. It's not a shuttered shopping street, but rather a slightly old but shining one. In this shopping street, there is a shop called Matsuya Shokuhin that sells Ashiarai mochi. They sell Ashiarai mochi on the side of the shop, not at the front. I was surprised that you can buy it here because I had to line up at Kyoto Isetan to buy it. But there are no lines here. You can just buy as much as you want to eat. (laughs) I bought Ashiarai mochi at Isetan and wrote about it in my blog here: [link provided]. This is the Ashiarai mochi I purchased. It has a familiar look, doesn't it? It says "Kyoto Famous Confection" in green letters. Now, let's enjoy the taste of Kyoto. Famous confection from Kyoto. It's a good one. I enjoyed it while feeling the history behind it.

That day, after wandering around Nishijin, I was in a hurry to go back. I wanted to buy bread at Ezuburu and also wanted some bean cakes, but I also wanted to visit the main store of Mangetsu! However, I was short on time... As I was passing through Masugata Shopping Street, I saw a curtain with the name "Ajari Mochi" right in front of me... Yes, it was true. A grocery store in the shopping street was selling Ajari Mochi. It's like a stroke of luck. Ajari Mochi in the shopping street too. The main store is a bit far from Demachiyanagi, so maybe I should buy from here from now on. But the main store serves freshly made ones, you know.

I was surprised to see Matsuya-san registered on the food blog. They casually sell Adzuki bean paste mochi on the side. It's convenient because you don't have to go all the way to the main store. However, if you want to enjoy freshly made warm Adzuki bean paste mochi, it's worth visiting the main store. It feels different from imagining a traditional Japanese confectionery store or an eat-in shop when it was selected as a fruit parlor. You can buy things like soy sauce, soybeans, ramen, and soba in bulk. They also sell rice and offer delivery services. The eggs are also fresh and delicious. The shopkeeper is a nice guy.
