It is recommended to pour rich matcha over it before eating. This simple traditional Japanese dessert is unique and the combination of flavors is exquisite. The subtle sweetness of the kuzu enhances the refined sweetness of the red bean paste. The bitterness of the matcha adds a nice touch. This dessert reminded me of the awe-inspiring experience I had 12 years ago when I encountered Kogane-nagashi at Daigokuden Honpo. It is truly remarkable how those who have grown up with kuzu and matcha can create such delicious traditional sweets. The Matcha Cappuccino (480 yen, with a 50 yen discount for a set) was also delicious.

There is a tea shop in the Imakumano shopping street. Recently, it has become a popular spot for school trips. I used to visit this shop near my grandmother's house, and it seems that they have added more varieties of sweets than before. This time, I got a parfait soft serve for takeout. It was served in a waffle cone with ice cream, cornflakes, red bean paste, chestnuts, and rice cakes - very luxurious! And the price was only 480 yen for takeout (550 yen for eat-in). If you were to eat this in Gion, it would cost nearly 1000 yen, so you can enjoy a reasonably priced Kyoto-style dessert here.

There was a food truck in the parking lot of Chion-in Temple, so I decided to buy something. Initially, I wanted to get matcha ice cream, but it was sold out. The staff said it was popular among foreign tourists and sold out by early afternoon. So, I ended up getting a regular vanilla ice cream for 500 yen. The flavor was not too rich, more on the refreshing side, but it was not cheap-tasting and quite delicious.

Cafe attached to a tea shop on the shopping street. It was a bit chilly that day, but I felt like having a matcha parfait so I visited. The parfait had plenty of ice cream with kudzu starch, chestnuts, etc., and the matcha ice cream was rich and very delicious. Even though it was a mini size, it was more than enough and I was completely satisfied. The soft green tea with soft serve ice cream had the ice cream placed at the bottom for some reason, which was different from the picture, but it was still delicious and I was also very satisfied. The Uji tea they served was also very delicious and much appreciated! Thank you for the meal.

The interior of the store was small, with seats by the window, two 4-person tables in the back, and one 2-person table. I had chocolate cake, matcha, a shake, and soft serve ice cream. They were all very delicious. I especially recommend the shake.

We visited this tea house after exploring Tohuku-ji and Senyu-ji temples and decided to take a break. Located in a shopping street, this tea house seemed like the perfect place to enjoy matcha treats. The menu was filled with various tea options. One of us chose "karigane," a kukicha tea known for its mellow flavor, along with a set of homemade matcha gâteau chocolat. The other opted for a matcha cappuccino with a set of homemade sweets, including Uji tea soft serve, gâteau chocolat, warabi mochi, and layered matcha sweets. The cappuccino was made with freshly whisked matcha, giving it a delightful aroma and vibrant appearance. I decided to go all out and ordered the "Koto no Koigokoro Parfait," featuring matcha ganache, chestnut, red bean, shiratama, warabi mochi, matcha jelly, matcha soft serve, matcha castella, and more. The tea house also offered a service where they put sencha and matcha in a PET bottle for takeaway (at an extra cost). Despite the touristy atmosphere and high prices in many places, we found comfort in the good value and quality of this local tea house. Before heading back, we received another round of tea to enjoy on our journey home.

Despite being a tea shop, they offer cold items to eat in during the summer. The shop is located a little up from the intersection of Higashioji-dori and Sennyu-ji-dori. My favorite item here is the matcha ice cream sandwich. I love the slightly bitter taste of the matcha ice cream and the crispy texture of the sandwich. The tea itself is delicious, so it's no surprise that the matcha is also tasty. I highly recommend the matcha ice cream sandwich.

Located near Toji Temple and Sanjusangendo, this specialty tea shop is run by the third-generation owner who holds a fifth-degree tea appraisal certification. Next to the retail space, there is a cozy tea room set up as a side space. Facing the street, it receives just the right amount of natural light. On this day, I chose the iced matcha. Even without deep knowledge or discerning taste buds for tea, you can easily judge the quality by the taste and aroma. Sure enough, it had a smooth texture without any astringency or bitterness, making it enjoyable even for children. The attentive service of frequently refilling the freshly brewed tea, even for just a drink, was a thoughtful touch. A homely, long-standing tea shop loved by local customers.
