I visited in the afternoon on a weekend. It's the end of November. The season of autumn leaves has become a regular walking course from Kuhonbutsu Shojinji to Furusouan in Jiyugaoka. The autumn leaves at Kuhonbutsu were not yet at their peak, but here at Furusouan, the maple tree in front of the entrance was beautifully colored. Due to the season, there were no longer lines extending from the garden to the road as there were a few years ago, and there were no longer visitors from overseas. I usually choose an iced drink after walking, but today I decided to try the warm Furusouan-style matcha shiratama zenzai. The roasted green tea and the salted kelp for palate cleansing were delightful. It's a bit pricey at 1,000 yen, but the menu items using their matcha were truly outstanding. Depending on the season and weather, enjoying the sweetness of matcha in a genuine old folk house, along with the modest Japanese garden scenery, provides a unique sense of healing. I will visit again.

There were no digging hearths or table seats. All seats were on tatami mats, with low tables and cushions laid out. It was a very calming space with the scent of tatami and the fragrant aroma of roasted green tea. I felt nostalgic for the feeling of tatami mats at my parents' house while looking out at the garden. It was a quiet and peaceful time, enjoying the pleasant aroma and delicious roasted green tea. I had the "Cream Anmitsu" for 1,100 yen, and it was delicious. The fruits were juicy, and the mochi-like texture of the shiratama was chewy. I visited around 1:30 PM on a Monday and the place was not crowded, allowing me to relax and enjoy a leisurely time.

This is a countryside-style café in Japan. It is a historic old house café where you can take off your shoes before entering, making you feel like you have returned to the countryside. There is a courtyard that is meticulously maintained, making you forget that you are in the city. In this unique space, you can enjoy matcha or coffee with traditional Japanese sweets. Don't miss the fruit-filled anmitsu and matcha shiratama anko sweets. Currently, you can enjoy many works as it is also the home of a doll artist. During the summer season, you can try their limited-time shaved ice.

Matcha ice cream with red bean paste for 1000 yen and Shaved ice with white balls, matcha, and azuki beans for 1100 yen. The shaved ice had white balls and red bean paste at the bottom, making it delicious until the end. The matcha ice cream was not too sweet, and the chestnut yokan that came with it was also very tasty.

Arrived around 3:00 PM on Sunday and waited for an hour. I never knew there was such a serene Japanese-style space in Jiyugaoka. It seemed like more than half of the customers were foreigners. Whoever thought of eating sweet matcha zenzai and salted kombu alternately is a genius, right? Next time, I have to try the matcha latte...

On this day, when I visited Jiyugaoka with my girlfriend, we stopped by Furusouan. I had mentioned it a few times, so we finally got the chance to visit. Luckily, we were quickly seated without much wait and were led to our table. The atmosphere was just like visiting a countryside grandma's house. I had been to Furusouan several times since the early 2000s when I first lived in Jiyugaoka, but this visit was after about 5 years. However, the charm of the interior and the outside view from the shop remained unchanged. It's like a pioneer of old folk house cafes. I ordered the cream anmitsu, while my girlfriend ordered the regular anmitsu. We waited a bit, but when the desserts arrived, the vibrant colors, refreshing appearance, and the beautiful presentation elevated our excitement. As shown in the photos, with various fruits and toppings, we enjoyed the changing flavors while savoring each bite and finished it quickly. It was delicious. However, I was concerned about the price and serving time. Isn't 1000 yen a bit too expensive for a cream anmitsu? Also, why did we have to wait for 30 minutes for just two items ordered by me and my girlfriend? I couldn't help but think that it wasn't like this before, but I might still come back because the location and atmosphere are truly exceptional.

The shop is not too far from the station, away from the hustle and bustle of the city, where you can enjoy a relaxing tea time while looking at the quiet courtyard. I arrived before 1 pm on Sunday and had to wait a little. There are many foreign tourists, so it might be best to secure a seat early. I ordered a matcha float. I don't usually order matcha drinks, but it was delicious with a good balance of bitterness and refreshing flavor. The ice cream had a traditional taste. They only serve drinks (including matcha and coffee) and Japanese-style sweets, no lunch menu available.

I searched for a Japanese cafe on Instagram and visited because it caught my interest. There aren't many cafes around, so I visited before 3 pm and had to wait in line. However, the turnover was quick so I didn't have to wait long. The matcha was not too sweet and paired well with the traditional Japanese sweets that came with it.

Located just a 5.6-minute walk from the station, this cafe is nestled up a hill. I didn't know there was a traditional house cafe like this in Jiyugaoka. It has a nostalgic atmosphere, like something you'd find in the countryside, with tatami seating. The garden is also lovely, especially during the autumn foliage season. I recommend trying the matcha zenzai - it comes with roasted green tea and salted kelp, creating a perfect balance of the bitterness of matcha and the sweetness of red beans. I felt soothed by this atmosphere. Thank you for the meal!

A traditional Japanese-style cafe located about 4-5 minutes north of the Jiyugaoka rotary, up a hill. I visited on a Sunday evening. The exterior has an old-fashioned feel, like a house in the countryside. When I arrived around 3 pm, there were already 5-6 groups waiting in line. I waited for about 30 minutes. However, after that, the line didn't seem to grow much, so if you go later in the evening, you might be able to get in quickly. Inside the cafe also has a homey feel. The seating is mainly low tables with cushions to sit on directly. It might be tough for those with stiff bodies, but the space is relatively comfortable so it doesn't feel cramped. The menu is not very extensive, making it easy to choose. The main offerings are matcha sweets, such as anmitsu and cream anmitsu. I tried the most popular item, matcha shiratama zenzai. Many people were also enjoying matcha floats to beat the heat. The matcha shiratama zenzai had white mochi balls inside the matcha, with red bean paste at the bottom. The mochi was chewy and delicious, with a good balance of matcha and red bean paste. In Jiyugaoka, known for its Western sweets, this cafe is a haven for those who prefer Japanese sweets.

Located about a 5-minute walk from Jiyugaoka Station in May 2023, this is the home and cafe of doll artist Fukuko Watanabe, right in front of Ravita Jiyugaoka. It is open as a tearoom and gallery, with a green-covered garden. I was lucky to enter the room without any waiting time. I took a seat by the window and enjoyed a leisurely time while looking at the garden. The room is filled with dolls created by Fukuko Watanabe. The matcha and Matcha Zen'ya were both delicious, priced at 1,000 yen each.

Today it was raining heavily, but it was great to drink matcha and eat dessert on a rainy day. Despite the rain, the shop was full of customers. Listening to the sound of the rain, sipping tea slowly, chatting with friends, you can truly feel the happiness of life. The staff were very kind, the service was good, and the dessert was delicious. This shop is really unique, and I will definitely visit it again next time I go to Jiyugaoka.

Holiday 14:40 visit. Entered the store at 15:15. A traditional Japanese cafe located on Katorie Street, just north of Jiyugaoka Station's front entrance. The interior has tatami mats and a beautiful garden view. Luckily, I was seated by the window. The menu offers Japanese sweets and drinks, such as matcha drinks, anmitsu, and zenzai. I had the Matcha Shiratama Zenzai in the style of Kosouan. Zenzai is a Kansai-style dish with a soup-like consistency, with matcha soup, red bean paste, and white rice cakes inside. The combination of red bean paste and matcha is excellent! The white rice cakes are chewy, slightly sweet, and delicious! It comes with salted kelp, which when eaten with zenzai, creates a sweet and salty addictive flavor. The atmosphere is great, and the food is delicious! The service is not the best, but it's not a big deal. As a representative cafe of Jiyugaoka, there will be long lines on weekends and holidays!

I found a sweet shop in an unexpected place! It's within walking distance of Jiyugaoka. It feels like they turned part of a private house into a dessert shop. You enter through the garden to the entrance. Oh, all the window seats are taken... you can see the whole interior from this approach. You have to take off your shoes to go inside. All the seats are tatami mats with low tables. The interior is decorated with old items, giving it a nostalgic feel. Not very sophisticated. It's a dessert shop. I ordered anmitsu since they didn't have mitsumame. It was served promptly. Here are my thoughts while eating: The red bean paste is very sweet. The agar jelly is tasteless and odorless. It has a nice texture. It's in a perfect square, which is ideal. There's a small amount of beans. The mochi is sweetened with sugar. There are apple and rabbit shapes. You can eat the ears too. The oranges are large. There's some fruit I recognize but don't know the name of. Kiwi is sour. The pineapple is small. The strawberries are tart. Oh, it's colorful. It's not incredibly delicious, just average. The tea served with it is also ordinary. Thank you for the meal. Old houses are cold. My legs are falling asleep on the tatami mats. Not good. There were only 3 tables for the premium seats by the garden. It's a battle to get those. No background music. It's quiet. That's all. The mysterious fruit was called "tropical fruits" when I asked at the checkout. Oh, I see, like a tropical fruit mix canned fruit. So maybe it was papaya. I like old house cafes, but maintenance is tough, and you can't keep everything the same as it used to be, so finding a balance between old and new is difficult. This place is an old house, but there's not much to see like transoms or shoji screens. The garden looks barren, maybe because it's winter. I didn't feel excited at all and it ended on a low note. Personally, I can't handle sitting on tatami mats with a low table anymore. The service was friendly and relaxed. I still prefer mitsumame over anmitsu. I don't really need red bean paste. Anmitsu costs 1000 yen. Hmm, it's expensive. I stopped by here after Parisevaille in Jiyugaoka.

I arrived at around 2:30 pm. I waited for about 10 minutes, but I was lucky because I was prepared to wait longer! By 3 pm, there were about 5 groups waiting in line. The anmitsu served with matcha was delicious... The red bean paste was very tasty at this shop! The atmosphere of the staff was also good, and it was a cozy place to be.

A beautiful traditional Japanese-style cafe with stunning autumn leaves. I went there with my mother who was visiting Tokyo. Since we weren't very hungry, I ordered matcha white dumplings with sweet red bean soup, while my mother got a generous portion of sweet red bean soup with mochi. The matcha white dumplings with sweet red bean soup were just right for me, not too sweet! The hint of salted kelp was a nice touch. I will definitely visit again when I want to relax!

On my way back from the dentist, I felt like stopping by this place after a long time. I chose matcha because the window was open for ventilation and it was a bit chilly. There were only two groups in the store, and I could hear English and Korean, but it was a very quiet time. Matcha comes with the original Japanese sweets here, and it was a Aomori sweet called "hanakazashi." The Japanese sweet was like an apple jelly sprinkled with soybean flour and it was delicious. It was just a short moment, but I was able to relax. Thank you for the meal.

There is a traditional Japanese house cafe near Jiyugaoka Station that makes you feel like you didn't know it existed. The old-fashioned Japanese house exudes nostalgia. It's a popular spot, so there is usually a wait during the day. The menu is limited to sweets only, but the tatami room with a veranda is so relaxing that it makes up for it. Recommended for those who want to relax while enjoying Japanese sweets.

The drink took about 20 minutes to come around 1 pm on a slightly cooler Saturday. The ○Ice Matcha Latte was served, with a foamy and rich matcha flavor that had a balanced bitterness and a hint of sweetness, leaving a refreshing aftertaste. It had a Kyoto-style matcha taste and came with a yuzu-flavored snack.

There is a shop located a 5-minute walk from Jiyugaoka that feels like your grandmother's house during summer vacation. The scent of Kincho mosquito coils fills the air, creating a nostalgic atmosphere that is comforting. The anmitsu is delicious, especially the sweet red bean paste. However, the other items are just average. It's a nice place to take a break, but I was disappointed that there were no shiratama (rice flour dumplings) and customization was not possible.

- A lovely cafe hidden in the backstreets of Jiyugaoka, housed in a renovated traditional Japanese house with a small garden. The matcha is authentic, but it's a shame they don't serve shaved ice. They only accept cash. Recommended for those looking for a relaxed and peaceful time in the midst of the bustling Jiyugaoka.
