We ordered liver stew for 500 yen, chicken and avocado with wasabi soy sauce for 600 yen, chicken thigh for 1,500 yen, chicken meatball for 280 yen, meatball for 230 yen, chicken ramen for 750 yen, grilled chicken thigh for 1,200 yen, rich pudding for 500 yen, homemade yogurt ice cream with pineapple for 380 yen, and homemade warabimochi for 680 yen. Specializing in Miyazaki Jidori chicken, this restaurant is also a chain with locations in Osaka and Tokyo. The chicken thigh yakitori is delicious. I ordered a set which included chicken yakitori (a mix of thigh and breast), chicken tataki, and chicken nanban. The chicken yakitori was consistently tasty, with a nice chewy texture that I enjoy. However, the portion size was a bit small. I wish the tataki and chicken nanban had a stronger (more sour) flavor. For dessert, I had cold soup with cucumbers and shiso leaves, but I prefer it to be more refreshing.

I found a place in the Shijo area where you can make a reservation for 25 people. It is located just a little down the street in front of Daimaru, so it's very convenient. The price is 5000 yen for all-you-can-drink. It's a semi-private room, perfect for parties. They were also accommodating for sudden changes in the number of people. The food is stylish Japanese cuisine, and the local chicken was incredibly delicious. The atmosphere was great, so I would love to go back with a large or small group.

Since everyone except me is a heavy drinker, we ordered the all-you-can-drink option. The handmade Mamefu, which was one of the first four dishes, was quite delicious, making us look forward to the rest of the menu. The recommended dish at Kyoto Zen Sha Shijo Karasuma store is the Kagura Chicken Charcoal Grill, which is cooked quickly over carefully selected Bincho charcoal, enveloped in flames and smoke. The juicy flavor of the chicken, combined with the aroma of charcoal and perfect texture, is truly addictive. The Chicken Nanban with original tartar sauce was also a hit. Finally, we enjoyed the Oyakodon as our last dish. I wish I could have more of their regular rice bowls, but it was time to return to Osaka as the night in Kyoto drew to a close.

There was a gathering at a group room at the back of the restaurant. The course included all-you-can-drink for 5,000 yen. The menu consisted of daikon and fried small fish salad, homemade tofu, Kagura chicken sashimi, today's side dishes, Kagura chicken charcoal-grilled, chicken nanban, Kagura chicken smoked platter, jaco rice with Kyoto pickles, and a dessert platter. The style was to take food from the large platters and eat individually, but it would have been nice if they had provided separate chopsticks for each person without having to ask. Since it came with all-you-can-drink, it's understandable. However, in terms of cost performance, I think it's more enjoyable to choose and enjoy your favorite items a la carte. Today's Zen: Had a drinking party with colleagues at the Yudono Kamo-Kyogoku store, indulging in a variety of grilled chicken skewers. Although we were only three people, we enjoyed a leisurely time in a private room with a Taisho-era machiya atmosphere, accompanied by attentive staff. I chose from my unique "Kyoto Oyakodon List" again this time. This restaurant is located a little away from the main street, so you have to be careful not to pass by it as it blends into the surroundings. When you open the lattice door and enter the restaurant, you can feel the modern atmosphere but the kitchen definitely gives off a vibe of a chicken dish restaurant with charcoal grills for yakitori and skewers, almost like a stage for a performance. There are counter seats surrounding the kitchen, partitioned table seats, and acrylic boards for COVID-19 measures. After taking photos of the interior and menu, the oyakodon was served in just a few minutes. The "Superb Oyakodon" here comes with miso soup, a small side dish, and pickles. The miso soup is a hearty miso soup with plenty of kujo negi (leeks). The side dish is cold tofu and the pickles are Shibazuke. The main oyakodon has chicken grilled over charcoal, giving it a fragrant and firm texture, with plenty of egg making it thick and runny. The rice is cooked slightly firm, which pairs well with the half-cooked egg. In addition to the oyakodon, the lunch menu offers set meals, teishoku, and even authentic curry, which is rare for a chicken restaurant. At night, there are yakitori and special evening menus, so you can enjoy a variety of dishes at this restaurant.

The only COVID-19 measure is a partition, which is a bit worrying, but I sat at a table. The menu for yakitori is quite extensive. Despite plans for a fun dinner with business associates, a major problem arose right before, creating a heavy atmosphere and making it hard to focus on the food or enjoy the drinks. As a Kyushu native, I was curious about the quality of the Miyazaki jidori chicken served, and I was relieved to find that the charcoal-grilled chicken was cooked perfectly with the right amount of chicken fat. The seared chicken thigh was slightly burnt on the skin side, leaving a charred taste on the palate. The chicken liver simmered with ginger was well-seasoned with no unpleasant odor due to its freshness. The chicken sashimi had a unique flavor with the taste of kombu, not commonly found in Miyazaki. The skewers were made with good quality ingredients, evident from their firm texture. The restaurant also has a second floor where group customers can enjoy a quiet dining experience.

Chicken nanban for 880 yen. It's hard to find chicken this good for under 1000 yen at lunchtime. It was delicious, or maybe I just forgot how good it was. The tender chicken was so tasty. The restaurant is spacious and has a nice open feel without unnecessary clutter. I like being able to see the kitchen where they cook. The miso soup didn't have clams in it, but it had clam flavor. The free rice refills with small bowls are a nice touch. The tartar sauce with mustard mixed in is also good. The only downside is that the salad portion is too big for a woman.
