Spice curry restaurant located south of Hankyu Omiya Station in Kyoto. The restaurant used to operate as a sublet from another shop, but now it seems to have finally opened its own store. I visited once during the sublet period. The main dishes are curry with ginger as the main spice, and the name "Nankoku" comes from the fact that the female owner is from Kochi. The menu consists of two basic curries plus rotating specials. However, when I visited, the special menu was sold out. I ordered a combination of the two basic curries. I think the curry I had this time tasted the same as the one I had during the sublet period. The spiciness of the ginger is prominent, making it easier to eat compared to chili peppers. The minced meat adds a strong flavor and is delicious, with a good portion size. The owner seems quite talkative and was chatting with regular customers about the menu composition. The ginger used, which is also in the restaurant's name, seems to be from Shikoku. The side dishes, more reminiscent of "Japanese side dishes" than achaar, have a gentle flavor that is unique and interesting. Overall, I had a positive impression. Thank you for the meal.

I visited the restaurant a little after 12 o'clock, and the place was bustling but I was seated at the counter right away. Looking at the menu, there were 3 types of curry available: 2 regular curries and a mixed curry. I decided to try the mixed curry (1,300 yen) with multigrain rice. The dish consisted of multigrain rice and cilantro in the middle of a large white plate, with "Kochi Ginger Keema Curry" on the right and "Chicken Curry" on the left. Accompanying the curries were stir-fried chicken and pork mince with Kochi ginger for a light yet flavorful taste, and a chicken curry with Sichuan pepper for a rich and slightly tangy flavor with a spicy kick. The multigrain rice had a chewy texture that paired well with the curries, and the stir-fried chicken and pork mince had a crunchy texture with a hint of sesame oil flavor. Despite not being a fan of cilantro, I found that it surprisingly complemented the curry well and I enjoyed the meal without any reservations.

Today, I visited "Nankoku Ginger" restaurant.
- Visiting time: a little after 1 pm
- Seating: 5 counter seats, 1 table (I think...)
- Menu: Kochi Ginger Keema (1100 yen), Chicken Curry (1100 yen), Combination (1300 yen), Extra Large Portion (200 yen)
- Specialties: Ingredients and alcohol from the owner's hometown of Kochi, unique curry style different from typical spice curries
- I ordered "Combination," "Extra Large Portion of Curry," "Extra White Rice," and "with Cilantro." The curry was different from typical spice curries, with a lot of meat and onions. It also had a crunchy texture from using Itadori. The curry had a strong ginger flavor, so it may not be suitable for those who dislike ginger. It was delicious and unique, leaning towards a Japanese style curry. Recommended for those who want a curry with a good balance of meat and vegetables, or those looking for a different kind of curry experience. Thank you for the meal.

I went for lunch on a regular day. As I approached the shop, I could smell the delicious curry. By this point, I was already craving curry. Inside the shop, there were counter seats and table seats. I sat at the counter and looked at the menu. I decided to order a combination of chicken curry and keema curry. I also chose mixed grain rice instead of white rice, and asked for coriander to be added. The staff promptly brought out the dishes and told me to mix them together before eating. The keema curry had a nice texture with minced meat, and the chicken curry was flavorful with spices. The combination of vegetables, pickles, coriander, and spices worked well together. Towards the end, everything was mixed together, allowing me to enjoy a variety of flavors.

Visited on April 1, 2023, before noon on Saturday. There were two customers already eating when I arrived, and another customer came in while I was there. I couldn't decide, so I ordered a combination dish. I chose mixed grain rice. It only took a few minutes for the curry to arrive, and the Kochi ginger keema didn't have a strong ginger flavor, but it was uniquely delicious. The chicken curry was quite spicy! The mixed grain rice was delicious! I thought it might be a trendy, Instagram-worthy curry, but it had a unique deliciousness to it.

Everyone's favorite curry~ ♪ A new restaurant has opened! The owner, who had been operating as a sublease at Spice Chamber in Karasuma, has finally opened his own shop! The owner, originally from Kochi, incorporates local ingredients such as ginger into his Keema curry and spicy Chicken curry. The meal also includes a side dish of the owner's handmade five kinds of pickles. The pickles are made with great care, using Kochi ingredients such as Itadori (mountain vegetable / tiger bamboo).

Currently, the restaurant is open for night business about once a week. It seems that customers are following along. The owner hopes to expand the menu to include small plates and increase the number of operating days. There are also a few types of sake and shochu from Kochi, showing the owner's love for his hometown. We wish the best for the future development of the night business.
