On the first day of a trip from Kyoto to Shiga, we started with lunch at this restaurant located in Takaragai, just a 30-minute drive from home. I have fond memories of dining here with colleagues when I used to work at a ryokan in Kyoto. It's a local spot that is quite inconvenient for tourists to reach, so mostly frequented by locals who drive here. It's a hidden gem for tourists! My friend wanted a delicious restaurant that represents Kyoto, so I chose this place. It had been 20 years since my last visit, so I was a bit worried if the taste had changed. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon around 1 pm and had to wait for about 10 minutes before being seated at a spacious table in the Western-style, high-ceilinged, open restaurant. Strangely, there was no background music, but once we started eating, we didn't even notice it (laughs). They offer three course options, and we chose the B course priced at 3190 yen. The course included yuba suri-nagashi, appetizers, yuba gratin, steak with beef fillet and yuba, rice, pickled mountain pepper, white miso soup, soy milk pudding, and coffee or tea or soy milk. The dishes were served with detailed explanations, and the service was excellent. The flavors were gentle and delicious, highlighting the ingredients. The standout dish was the yuba steak, where the yuba was deep-fried like thick tofu, crispy on the outside and juicy inside, a unique and tasty experience! The yuba chirimen sansho rice that my friend ordered was outstanding, and I would definitely order it next time! Although they no longer offer the experience of scooping up freshly made yuba using solid fuel like they did 20 years ago, the quality and value for money of the dishes were impressive. Overall, both my friend and I left satisfied with the high-quality food. [Out of 100 points] Taste: 95 points Presentation: 95 points Portion size: 90 points Value for money: 95 points Interior: 95 points Service: 90 points Overall: 93.3 points Rating criteria: 0-60 points: Bad! 61-70 points: A little better 71-80 points: Okay 81-85 points: Quite good 86-90 points: Very good 91-95 points: Excellent 96-99 points: Outstanding 100 points: Flawless Since this was a lunch review, I place a high importance on value for money and portion size. Considering 80 points as the average score would be reasonable.

Hello! I went to Yuba Izumi, a yuba cuisine restaurant in Kyoto. I ordered the course menu and enjoyed various delicious dishes made with yuba prepared in different ways. The rice with ankake sauce and miso soup were especially tasty. The restaurant was very clean and had a calm atmosphere, and the service was good, making it a pleasant dining experience. Thank you for the meal.

Next to the Tomosha (Iwakura) High School. Managed to secure the last seat with a same-day reservation. As the name suggests, a variety of yuba dishes kept coming one after another. The flavors are rich with dashi, typical of Kyoto cuisine. You can choose from fish, meat, or tempura as the main dish. Despite the name, the cuisine is a fusion of Japanese and Western styles. The interior of the restaurant is also Western-style.

When I visited Kyoto on a trip, my friend chose this restaurant for us to dine at. They were very mindful of the reservation time so we could enjoy the view in the courtyard. We had pre-booked our meal which included Yuba (tofu skin) soup, seasonal appetizers, warm Yuba, Yuba and shrimp/vegetable tempura, Yuba rice with dried young sardines, pickles, white miso soup, and soy milk panna cotta. It was a Yuba feast and each dish was delightful, making it a pleasant and enjoyable experience without getting tired of the Yuba dishes.

Located near the International Conference Center in Iwakura, Kyoto, to the north. When driving to Kyoto, it can be stressful to find parking in the city center, but it's more relaxed further away. It's a popular spot, so I made a reservation for the B course. Upon arrival, I was glad I reserved as it was fully booked. The B course included Yuba soup, seasonal appetizers, warm Yuba, Yuba gratin, choice of fish, meat, or tempura as the main dish, Yuba rice or Yuba chirimen sansho rice, Kyoto pickles, white miso soup, and soy milk pudding for dessert. I ordered a ginger ale drink, which was delicious. The appetizers and Yuba soup were tasty, and the Yuba gratin was creamy and delicious. I chose meat for the main dish, which was satisfying with a variety of dishes. The Yuba rice was also delicious. Next time, I want to try the tempura. Thank you for the meal!

I made a same-day phone reservation and was able to get a table. I ordered the 3300 yen course. I was able to enjoy various types of yuba with different arrangements. Additionally, I could choose between meat or fish as the main dish, and the taste was very good. I think 3300 yen is cheap for the amount of food you get. The atmosphere of the restaurant is also very nice, and I think it would be good for a small celebration. Also, the yuba for takeout is very delicious, so be sure to get some as a souvenir!

I went on a trip to Kyoto with my mother. While looking for a restaurant where we could enjoy not only Japanese cuisine but also other types of food, I found out about Yuba Izumi Takaragaike through a blog I love reading. I learned that they accept the Go To Travel campaign coupons, which made me think that it would be enjoyable for both my mother and me. So, I made a reservation (through Gurunavi) and used part of the Go To Travel coupon worth 4000 yen. I paid the remaining amount in cash. The restaurant is located near the Kokusaikaikan Station in the Iwakura area, where my mother's family grave is located. We used a one-day subway and bus pass to get there after visiting the grave. We arrived at the restaurant at 5:00 pm for our reservation. We were the first ones there, and a few more groups arrived later. We chose the A course for 2,860 yen, which included a moist appetizer, warm simmered yuba, a main dish, rice, soy milk pudding, and hot coffee. The main dish options were fish, meat, or tempura. We both chose the meat option, which was a tenderloin steak with yuba cubes and a seasonal sauce. The meal was delicious, and we particularly enjoyed the yuba steak, which had a great texture. We also chose yuba rice, which was flavorful and satisfying. The miso soup was made with white miso and soy milk, giving it a perfect balance of sweetness. The soy milk pudding was light and not too sweet, and the hot coffee was a nice way to end the meal. Overall, we were satisfied with the portion sizes and the variety of dishes. The restaurant offered a nice balance of flavors, making it suitable for a wide range of age groups. I usually prefer Italian, French, gyoza, yakisoba, ethnic food, or izakaya in Kyoto, but this time I was looking for a restaurant where my 70-year-old mother could also enjoy. Yuba Izumi turned out to be a great choice for both of us.

I have a job at an international conference center, so I decided to treat myself here. Since I'm in Kyoto, I wanted to try yuba (tofu skin), and the course meal here was reasonably priced and had a nice mix of Japanese and Western dishes. The dessert, a soy milk pudding, was incredibly smooth and the caramel sauce was deliciously bitter. There aren't many restaurants around here, so I'm grateful for this place.

I visited a popular restaurant specializing in yuba (tofu skin) with a friend. We arrived a little late, around 1 pm, and managed to get a table as the last customers to be seated without a reservation. It's safer to make a reservation, though! We opted for the 2800 yen course for lunch. [First Dish] The tofu skin soup with ankake (thick starchy sauce) was rich and flavorful, a great start to the meal. [Second Dish] The warm tofu skin dish was delicious on its own or with a bit of soy sauce. Adding ginger enhanced the flavor even more. [Third Dish] The eel and eggplant dish was a delightful surprise, very tasty. As I'm from Tokyo, it was nice to try anago (conger eel) instead of the usual hamo (pike conger) in Kansai. [Fourth Dish] The ankake yuba rice dish was light yet flavorful, with a perfect balance of ingredients. [Dessert] We ended the meal with a delicious tofu pudding. Overall, the quality of each dish in the course was excellent, and I left fully satisfied. The menu changes monthly, so I look forward to returning to try more dishes.

After sightseeing at Ohara Sanzen-in, we stopped at Kyoto International Conference Center to find a lunch spot before transferring from the bus to the subway. We decided to try this restaurant serving yuba dishes. Located in a quiet academic city center dominated by Doshisha University-affiliated schools, we were able to get a seat right away without a reservation. We ordered the A course for 2,860 yen and the B course for 3,300 yen. The A course includes 7 dishes, while the B course has 8 dishes. The main difference between the two is that the B course includes yuba gratin as the fourth dish. The main course options are the same for both courses. Although the A course was sufficient in terms of portion size, the gratin was delicious, making the B course a tempting option. The meal included yuba in various cooking styles, prepared in a Westernized manner to offer a variety of textures and flavors. The white miso soup served in a small bowl with the rice was smooth and had a refreshing taste. If you're tired of the hustle and bustle of the city, this is a restaurant worth visiting.

Twenty years ago, the Western-style interior that used to be a cake shop on Kitayama Street is now run by Yuba Izumi, a store specializing in the production and sale of fresh yuba. Located on Kiyomizu Gojo-zaka, they offer a lunch course for 2750 yen. The course includes three types of appetizers with grated soy milk, yuba and clam soup, a thick and delicious yuba and sea bream pie, wagyu beef dice steak with fried yuba in a savory sauce, and a dessert of soy milk pudding and rich soy milk drink. It was a very satisfying meal.

I had some business to attend to in Kyoto city after a long time, and for lunch, I went to this restaurant. I ordered the B course, which included the following: - Moisture: Yuba pureed soup - Appetizer: Seasonal appetizer assortment - Yuba: Warm boiled yuba - Yuba dish: Yuba gratin - Main dish: Choice of fish, meat, or tempura - Rice: Yuba rice or Chirimen sansho rice - Fragrant dish: Kyoto pickles - Clear soup: White miso - Dessert: Seasonal dessert - After meal: Coffee, tea, or soy milk Even just with yuba alone, they offer a variety of dishes such as yuba pureed soup, boiled yuba, raw yuba, and yuba gratin, allowing you to enjoy the different flavors and textures of yuba. From start to finish, it's all about tofu and yuba. And yet, it's relatively affordable. There are some great chain restaurants in Kyoto. Truly a Kyoto specialty.

My father likes yuba, so I visited this restaurant for Father's Day celebration. Despite being unable to reserve a parking spot, I had no trouble finding one as it was a weekday. We arrived after 12 pm and the restaurant quickly filled up with customers. I opted for the seasonal course menu to try a variety of dishes. The service was slow-paced, allowing us to relax and enjoy our meal. The yuba gratin was delicious as expected. The sashimi, starting with yuba sashimi, was also tasty. The white miso served with yuba rice reminded me of New Year's Day with its unique flavor. My mother loved the yuba pepper and wanted to buy some to take home. The dessert, yuba cookies and yuba pudding, left us fully satisfied. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

On the first day of my trip to Kyoto, I had dinner at Yuba Izumi Takaragaike, where you can enjoy creative dishes made with yuba (tofu skin). It was about a 5-minute walk from Kokusaikaikan Station on the subway. It was already dark around the station at 7pm. The restaurant is located along a main road and is easy to spot. There were a few parking spaces available. The restaurant itself looked like a small family restaurant, with a somewhat Western-style interior. I had made a reservation through One Harmony for the monthly Course B, which costs 3,080 yen per person and includes a choice of main dish. The course included: Yuba Surinagashi Soup, Seasonal Appetizers, Warm Yuba Dumplings, Yuba Gratin with Salmon, Yuba and Salmon Meuniere with Mushroom Sauce, Pickles, Miso Soup, Tofu Pudding, and a choice of hot coffee, tea, or soy milk. I chose the Yuba and Shredded Beef Pepper Rice. Payment was accepted with the Goto Travel ticket.

Today I visited a new restaurant for the first time, "Yuba Izumi Takaragaike Store". I was expecting a traditional Japanese atmosphere because of the yuba (tofu skin), but the interior was stylish and Western in design. It was dinner time and the restaurant was full, but I had made a reservation so I was seated promptly. I ordered a course menu and chose my main dish at the restaurant. The main dish was a bit disappointing, but the yuba dishes were delicious. The pricing was reasonable as it included a post-meal drink. Thank you for the meal.

I visited Yuba Izumi again in November after enjoying my previous visit in the summer. This time, I couldn't get a table at the nearby steakhouse, so I decided to revisit Yuba Izumi, where I had a great experience last time. The menu for November included the following items for the B course, with a choice of fish as the main dish: Yuba pureed soup, seasonal appetizer assortment, warm boiled Yuba with ginger and soy sauce, Yuba gratin, deep-fried conger eel and sautéed burdock with mustard sauce, shredded dried fish and sansho pepper rice, pickles, miso soup, seasonal dessert, and I forgot to take a picture of the soy milk soup. The Yuba gratin was a new addition to the course and was a hit with my daughter, who has become a Yuba fan. The salmon and persimmon marinade in the appetizer was a delightful combination of flavors and textures. The main dish, deep-fried conger eel, had a thick and satisfying texture, complemented by the tangy mustard sauce. The burdock stole the show with its crispy and comforting taste. I chose the shredded dried fish and sansho pepper rice again, realizing that I had chosen fish as the main dish on both visits. The Yuba rice with sauce received high praise from my family. The miso soup changed from red to white miso this time, but I would have been happy with either. I ended the meal with a refreshing soy milk soup. Overall, it was a satisfying Yuba lunch experience. Thank you for the delicious meal!

I made a reservation at a restaurant in Kyoto for dinner, where I enjoyed yudofu, a Kyoto specialty, after sightseeing all day. The atmosphere was calm and welcoming, and I ordered the A course, which was reasonably priced. The meal included a delicious soy milk soup, warm yudofu, a choice of main course (I had the beef fillet steak), yudofu rice, and a dessert trio. The food was tasty and satisfying, and I even got a discount coupon for purchasing some yudofu to take home. Overall, it was a great dining experience.
