It's a shaved ice shop. They have matcha and hojicha flavors. The shaved ice is milk-flavored and delicious, and you can taste Kyoto in it.

I went because I wanted to eat shaved ice. The shop is located underground and has a hidden atmosphere. It was past noon, so there were no other customers in the shop. I ordered a set of black tea and shaved ice. It looks stylish as shown in the photo. The fluffy ice and warm black tea made it delicious. I think it's perfect when you want to take your time eating shaved ice.

I was told about a little-known shaved ice shop and headed to Gion, Kyoto. "Kezuri-hiya" is located in the basement of an old building facing Shijo Street in Gion. The interior has a nostalgic Showa-era feel, like being inside a boat. There are table seats and sofa seats at the back. The shaved ice comes in a small bowl, about the size of a go stone case. I tried the matcha flavor with Kyoto black tea hot drink for ¥1000. The shaved ice is made of instantly frozen milk. The taste is similar to matcha latte. They also have a hojicha version, but the pattern was not clear. I preferred the hojicha flavor. The design of the milk and sugar packets is considered. The shaved ice looks like a latte, which might be more visually appealing. The shop is popular on Instagram. Check it out if you're in the area.

Hello, this is Average (^_^). The 490th shaved ice review is for "Kizurihiya Kyoto Gion Store." I stopped by this place as part of a shaved ice stamp rally. Although I had heard of this place in magazines before, this was my first visit. They just started their winter business on February 10th, operating only on weekends and holidays from 12:30 to 17:00. However, on the first day, they closed at 16:00, and on the second day, they opened at 13:00, so their operating hours seem a bit inconsistent. The shaved ice is a Korean-style sorbet made by instantly freezing milk. It is served with instant-frozen matcha ice on top of milk ice. The sweetness is mild. Compared to other popular sorbet places in Kansai like JAM and Yuki no Hana, this place seems more geared towards tourists without much innovation. If you're curious about sorbet and a shaved ice enthusiast, it might be worth trying. The service is polite, but the flexible operating hours may be a drawback. The atmosphere feels like a former snack bar in the basement of an APA Hotel. The menu only offers three flavors - matcha, hojicha, and black tea shaved ice, each priced at 1000 yen with a drink and black beans included. It seems reasonably priced for Gion. If you're interested in trying Korean-style sorbet, this place and Yuki no Hana are the only options in Kyoto, so be sure to check their operating hours before visiting. It's a hidden gem and should be easy to visit even in the summer. This concludes the shaved ice review by Average in Kansai for April 2018. Stay tuned for more shaved ice updates and recommendations!

I wore a kimono and visited Yasaka Shrine with my friend before heading to a shop located in the basement of APA Hotel right next to the shrine. When we entered the shop, about half of the seats were taken and the available seats had not been cleared of dishes. It seemed like the staff was handling both serving and cooking alone, and they looked busy. Looking at the menu, there were three types of ice flavors: matcha, roasted green tea, and new tea. I ordered the Gion Ice Set for 1000 yen. I chose roasted green tea flavor with hot milk tea, while my friend chose matcha flavor with iced coffee. After a short wait, our order arrived. It was delicious! The ice had a subtle roasted green tea flavor and was very fluffy. It melted smoothly in my mouth, creating a new and interesting texture. This dessert is quite unique and tasty. Thank you for the meal.

I was looking for a café to cool off from the hot Kyoto sightseeing, and I wanted to try matcha shaved ice or soft serve ice cream. I happened to see a sign that caught my eye! The interior of the shop was very quiet and had a chic atmosphere, with a luxurious feel. The menu was simple, offering only shaved ice. I ordered matcha and hojicha flavors. The shaved ice was like a piece of art that seemed too beautiful to eat, and when I dug in with a spoon, it felt as soft as freshly fallen snow in Hokkaido! The flavors were not overpowering, with a subtle tea taste that gently melted in my mouth. The texture of the ice was a perfect match! It was a new and unique shaved ice experience!

First time visiting this shop. Thanks to it being an hour before closing time for lunch, we were able to enter smoothly as it was not crowded. The interior was stylish and lovely, with a bar setting for the evening. I ordered the Gion matcha and hojicha ice cream set with my friend. Firstly, the appearance is cute ⭐️ with the characters "京" and drawings beautifully depicted on the ice cream. It's almost a shame to eat it... but once you put it in your mouth, it melts softly with a subtle sweetness spreading. Delicious!! It was so tasty and helped relieve the heat.

Looking for cute ice stencils made with matcha, we headed to Gion. Located very close to Yasaka Shrine, in a nice spot in Gion, this cozy shop is a bit hidden in a building's basement, with no elevator. However, it was very quiet and the chairs were comfortable. The shop offers a cold dessert called "Gion Ice," likely made by shaving milk-flavored ice. You can choose from matcha, hojicha, or black tea, but we went with matcha. It costs 1000 yen (including tax) with a coffee or black tea. The designs on the ice are random. Even if you go with multiple people, you'll get different designs. We got maple leaves and cherry blossoms. The ice is fluffy, so you mix it with a spoon as you eat. The portion is just right and delicious. The black soybean paste topping is tasty. However, the coffee was weak, almost like barley tea.

Kyoto, Gion. I was looking for a cafe to take a break, but everywhere was full on the weekend. I happened to see a cute sign at the entrance of an Apa Hotel, so I decided to go in. It was underground and not well known, so it was empty. There was a relatively large space with a cozy sofa seat in a U shape in the back, where I could relax. However, it was occupied by a group of young girls who seemed to be very comfortable, they even took off their shoes. I sat at a table near the front. I thought the cute visual on the menu was for a matcha latte art, but it turned out to be ice. Oh, so that's why it's called "shaved ice"?? It was too cold outside, so I skipped the ice and had a cup of tea. It came with three black beans and cost 500 yen. It's a nice place for a little break. Next time, I'll have to try the cute ice.

The shaved ice at this cafe is like powdery snow, with a milky sweetness that complements the matcha flavor. The matcha powder is layered on the surface, ensuring a consistent taste throughout. While there is nothing particularly outstanding about the taste, the latte art-style presentation is creative. I thought it would be even more popular if they offered a variety of designs to choose from, similar to Ogawa Coffee in Kyoto. The set menu includes matcha shaved ice, Kyoto black tea iced tea, and sweet red beans for 1000 yen per person. This cafe, located on the basement floor of an Apa Hotel in Gion, offers a unique shaved ice experience. The menu is simple, with only the Gion Ice Set available for 1000 yen, including a choice of matcha, hojicha, or black tea shaved ice, and coffee or black tea. Unfortunately, you cannot choose the design of the shaved ice.
