I really liked it. I want to give it a good score. It's a diner located in a residential area in Nishikyogoku, Ukyo-ku, Kyoto City. It's one street north from Route 9. There is a parking space in front of the shop, but it's hard to rely on. The exterior of the shop has a cafe-like feel. It seems to be run by two female staff members. Inside, there is a list of set meals on a blackboard. The set meals cost around 800 yen. There are also various other options like curry. The menu selection is completely like a "diner". Many of the other customers are families. I chose the Nikusui set meal. It comes with Nikusui (meat and vegetables in broth), rice, Yan-nyom egg, and one fried horse mackerel. The fried mackerel is freshly fried, crispy, and has no fishy smell, very easy to eat. The Nikusui has chunks of meat floating in a tasty broth. It may not be enough for those with a big appetite. They may need to order a larger portion or additional items. It's a well-balanced and delicious meal made with care, like something a nutritionist would prepare. Recently, good diners seem to be decreasing. Even the Bonchi Shokudo in Katsura has closed. In such a situation, it's nice to see a stylish diner like this starting up. The children at the next table won't be able to have the miso soup or sashimi from Bonchi Shokudo anymore. Instead, these kinds of diners may become the new standard.

There is a cute set meal restaurant in Ukyo-ku, Kyoto. They offer reasonably priced set meals like hamburger, pork cutlet, and fried chicken. It was crowded quickly because it was lunchtime on a weekday. There were many male customers, and a lot of them were ordering meat dishes. The Stamina Set Meal for 850 yen comes with tender beef sinew stir-fried with cabbage and bean sprouts in a spicy sauce. The soft white rice was cooked to perfection. The macaroni salad was also delicious. The portion size was just right, giving a nostalgic and comforting home-cooked meal vibe, which might be due to the female owner.

Today, I had some business at Takebishi Stadium in Nishikyogoku, so I looked up a nearby teishokuya (set meal restaurant). I was thinking of getting the mapo tofu set meal, but then I noticed it was (limited to summer). I didn't want to ask if they still had it in this freezing winter, so I gave up and got the Nikusui set meal for 850 yen, which came with a Yan-nyon egg. They told me to eat it like egg over rice. For the side dish, you can choose between two pieces of fried chicken or fried horse mackerel. The fried chicken had a nice garlic flavor and the Yan-nyon egg was good too, although I prefer it a bit more seasoned. Now, onto the main dish, the Nikusui. It was made with incredibly tender beef tendons in a flavorful broth. It was so delicious! Affordable and tasty. I'll definitely come back to Nishikyogoku and try out more items on the menu.

I went to the restaurant during lunchtime on a regular day. It is located near Nishikyogoku Athletic Stadium. When I entered the restaurant, there were counter seats and table seats, and about 90% of the seats were taken. I managed to find a seat and placed my order. There were various lunch menu options, but I ordered the spicy mapo tofu set. The staff, two people, were working hard. The mapo tofu arrived, with a spicy color. The set included rice, miso soup, pickles, shumai, boiled vegetables, small taro, and mapo tofu flavored miso soup. Everything had a gentle flavor, and the rice was cooked to my liking, not too soft. The mapo tofu had a nice kick from the Sichuan peppercorns and was delicious. The side dishes were also tasty, making me finish the rice quickly. More customers kept coming in one after another. They also serve beer, so maybe it's a good place for a lunchtime drink?

I felt like having fried horse mackerel for dinner, so I searched online and found a restaurant called "Kujira Shokudo" near my house. I ordered the "Fried Horse Mackerel Set Meal" and got 3 pieces of fried horse mackerel on my plate. The freshly made fried horse mackerel was hot and crispy on the outside, and tender and juicy on the inside. It was delicious and only cost 750 yen, which is cheap. The restaurant had a cozy, homey atmosphere and served delicious homemade set meals. I saw they had a variety of other set meals, so I will definitely come back again. It was delicious. There were about 4 counter seats and 4 table seats. I visited before 7pm. There were 3 customers before us. Even though the state of emergency has been lifted and alcohol is allowed, the noise level was way too high. It's not even an izakaya, it's a dining hall. I couldn't wait to leave, so I didn't really have much to say about the food. If I had to say something, I think the chicken cutlet was a frozen food. It tasted and looked the same as the frozen chicken cutlets I eat at home. My husband also said, "It tastes like frozen food we eat at home." The owner apologized to us when we paid, but I think it would be better if they gently addressed the issue if they feel that way.

Today's lunch was at "Kujira Shokudo" located on the north side of Nishikyogoku Comprehensive Sports Park. It is a Western-style restaurant with a bright and clean interior on the 1st floor of an apartment building. Tea and water are self-service. The menu is written on the counter. They have curry, rice bowls, but a wide variety of set meals. I was torn between the oyster fry, but I chose the "Hamburger & Shrimp Fry" for 1200 yen. When trying a new restaurant, I often order the hamburger. The set meal that came out had a large hamburger. The sauce was generously poured over it. The shrimp fry was cooked just right, with a crispy coating and a juicy, slightly rare shrimp inside. Another option for a Western-style restaurant has been added.

I had the meat and rice set meal. You can choose between 2 pieces of fried chicken or 1 piece of fried horse mackerel. It was delicious! I will definitely come back again. The taste is easy to enjoy for everyday meals, and the price is reasonable. I'm worried because it's so cheap. The interior of the restaurant is bright, clean, and comfortable. I want to try all the menu items.

I ordered a set meal instead, which included a generous portion of shrimp fry, cream croquette, white fish fry, squid ring fry, and salad. The deep-fried items were cooked at a relatively low temperature, resulting in a light and fluffy texture. The handmade fried food was delicious. The tartar sauce was tasty, and I wished there was more of it in a separate container. The rice was soft and flavorful, just the way I like it. I noticed that they offer free rice for dine-in customers. They had acrylic dividers for COVID-19 prevention measures. It was a bit crowded with a lively group of customers, so I decided to avoid dining in this time. The order stop was a bit late, so next time I'll go at a less busy time. The friendly owner seemed to have years of experience working in local diners. Although it's a new restaurant, the food was definitely good.
