I finally got to visit a restaurant I've always wanted to try! I was able to enjoy a luxurious meal during the lunch on the ST tour of Kyoto sightseeing bus. I am very happy to be able to eat such a fancy meal after a long time. The manager and staff were kind and it was really great.

Located in Gion, Kyoto, Sapporo Kaniya Kyoto offers a spacious dining area with private rooms for a relaxing meal without worrying about the surroundings. The staff provides excellent service with attentive care. The crab dishes are prepared in a way that is easy to eat and very enjoyable. Highly recommended for crab lovers!

Craving for crab, I visited "Kaniya" for a crab course meal. I enjoyed the Zuwai crab course for ¥7260, and added a Taraba crab one piece grilled for ¥5610. The course included crab tofu, Zuwai crab sashimi, Zuwai crab vinegar, Zuwai crab hot pot, crab gratin, crab tempura, crab sushi roll, soup, and dessert. However, I was disappointed as I couldn't taste the natural sweetness of the crab much, especially in the Taraba crab grilled which lacked the expected crispy texture and was too moist, resembling boiled crab. Considering the price, it was quite disappointing.

I went to a "Kaniya" restaurant in Kyoto, which is also in Hokkaido. I ordered crab suki and crab gratin. It's sad that we can't travel during the self-restraint period, but the taste of the dashi broth was the same as in Hokkaido, and the snow crab was big and easy to eat! My favorite is the crab rice porridge at the end, the sweetness of the broth is the best. But the 600 yen for one serving of porridge seems a bit expensive... They have a parking lot, so it's easy to get to!

I was invited to a meal and once again requested crab dishes. We had a reservation at a crab restaurant near Gion, with a private room for the three of us to enjoy crab leisurely. On the day, there were many foreign visitors and it was a bit noisy, but we didn't mind. We ordered a sashimi platter with Matsuba, Taraba, and Kegani crab, which was over 20,000 yen due to market price. The staff seemed a bit inexperienced, and there were also foreign staff members who seemed a little awkward with chopsticks and serving etiquette. The food, including crab hot pot, croquettes, tempura, was tasty but nothing particularly memorable. Overall, the balance between food, cost, atmosphere, and service felt a bit off. Despite that, I am satisfied with my crab indulgence at Kani Doraku.

We used this restaurant for our family's New Year's gathering in January 2020. Normally, we would hold it at "Koura" in Kurashiki, but this year, due to some circumstances, we decided to have it in Kyoto. Without asking anyone for recommendations, we found this place by searching "Kyoto City x crab" on Tabelog. We left the hotel around 5 PM, took the subway to Shijo, and walked along Shijo Street to get to the restaurant. As expected in the popular tourist destination of Kyoto, there were a lot of people out at night, but we managed to make our way through the crowds and arrived at the restaurant around 6 PM. The family members who went separately also arrived at the restaurant safely for our 6:30 PM reservation. We were seated in a large room on the second floor, at a sunken kotatsu-style table. We ordered the Taraba crab hot pot course, so we toasted with draft beer and chuhai while looking at the ingredients on the large plate. As the broth in the pot started to boil, we began adding the ingredients: Taraba crab, Chinese cabbage, tofu, rice cakes, enoki mushrooms, carrots, glass noodles, seaweed, watercress, and crab miso, among others. The Taraba crab legs were cut diagonally with a knife, making it easy to remove the meat. Although it didn't seem like a lot at first, it turned out to be quite filling, and we couldn't finish everything, leaving some vegetables behind. When we asked if there would be anything else in addition to the Taraba crab hot pot course, the staff said it was just that, so we decided to order additional Zuwai crab nigiri. The total bill came to 37,268 yen, paid in full with a card, including 10% consumption tax and an additional 10% service charge. Overall, we were satisfied and had a great time enjoying crab at the start of the new year. Thank you for the meal.

I made a reservation for the delicious Hana Miyabi course, but when I arrived at the restaurant, it was busy due to the year-end rush and there was no one to guide me to my table. Once seated, there was no explanation of the course and the dishes started arriving without any introduction. The food itself was tasty, but the hot pot in the course was left unattended and cold, and I had to call for attention multiple times with no response. The course included sushi rolls, soup, and dessert, but despite calling for them, they were never served and I ended up leaving without being able to finish my meal. It was disappointing to experience such poor service, especially since I had been a regular customer. It seems like they may have hired temporary staff, as even when I asked for the location of the restroom, they didn't know. I would not recommend this restaurant during the busy year-end period.

Crab season has arrived! So I visited Kaniya in Gion, where you can enjoy fresh crab at a relatively reasonable price. I had high expectations and was not disappointed. The crab sashimi, crab vinegar, kani suki, tempura, and other crab dishes were all delicious. Even though it was relatively affordable, I paid over 10,000 yen per person, but the quality of the food matched the price. The only downside was the service from the staff. It may be due to the busy season, but I think if they could improve a little, I would have enjoyed the crab even more.

Located in Gion with a parking lot, this is a sophisticated adult lunch spot away from the hustle and bustle. Be aware that you need to take off your shoes before entering (laughs). We were seated at the counter at Kanitei. There is a teppanyaki grill, so be prepared for your clothes to pick up some smell. We thought we had ordered a course for about 6,000 yen over the phone, but we were surprised when Omi beef was served in the middle of the meal (laughs). The dishes were creatively presented, with the crab being firm and served in various ways. The Omi beef was tender, easy to eat, and had a great flavor! When we received the bill, we were shocked to find out that it was a 12,000 yen course with Omi beef, but the delicious food and pleasant hospitality made it worth it.

On October 13, 2019, Sunday, after my grandmother's funeral, I went to Kyoto Gion Sapporo Kanikoya. The crab sashimi was so tender and sweet, it was delicious. The beef shabu-shabu had a perfect balance of lean meat and fat, which was amazing. The crab tempura was a perfect combination of meat and batter, creating an outstanding flavor. The crab roll was like a red carpet of seaweed and crab, giving a luxurious feel. Thank you for the meal. I will definitely come back again. I appreciate all the ingredients in this world. This was my first time in a while, and I made a reservation to celebrate my anniversary. They didn't have snow crab, so I ordered boiled snow crab, raw snow crab, and grilled snow crab along with two non-alcoholic beers. The staff were all young, which was nice, but they were clearly understaffed. I asked for ponzu sauce, but it never arrived. I also requested a replacement wet towel, but it took a long time to come. When I ordered another beer, it came quickly, but when it came to taking my money, they were nowhere to be found. At another table, a customer asked if iced tea ever gets busy, which was met with laughter. They also mentioned that dessert availability was uncertain due to stock. Although I wasn't completely full yet, I decided I wouldn't be returning. Even after paying, no one helped me leave the parking lot, making it difficult to exit. It seemed like they were severely understaffed. I doubt anyone other than tourists would come here. I would give it zero stars if I could.

I wanted to go eat crab, so even though it was one month in advance, I couldn't make a reservation at a certain crab chain restaurant, but I was able to easily make a reservation here... so I visited. The entrance was quite crowded, but since I had a reservation, I was seated right away. The room had partitions like a private room, so even though the restaurant was crowded and noisy, it was nice to be able to relax. I had a bad experience before when I made a reservation for dinner and was seated in a large hall, so I couldn't relax. I wanted to eat crab kamameshi, so I ordered a course that included kamameshi. We had made a reservation, so we were escorted to a calm tatami room at the back. The atmosphere was not bad, but due to the season, it felt like we were the only ones on this floor. When asked about the taste of the crab, I would say it was decent, nothing particularly amazing. The staff, three of them, took turns bringing out the dishes, but it might be a good idea to check how the young part-time staff members are handling the service. It seemed like they were inexperienced or lacking in training. Also, the middle-aged woman who was not a part-timer was quite unfriendly, so the restaurant should pay attention to that as well. We were not the ones paying as we were being entertained, but the imbalance between the atmosphere, service, and overall impression of the restaurant in Gion was quite notable.

The crab was difficult to eat, maybe I'm not good at it, but the meat was hard to remove from the shell and I couldn't eat it well. However, the crab tempura, which was a single item, had a strong crab flavor and was good! I have been there several times, but this was the best in terms of tasting the crab. The most important thing is that the crab is delicious.

The food and service were both wonderful! The restaurant was spacious and the course menu was satisfying. I would love to visit again on a relaxing day in Kyoto. Even though we chose a lower-priced course, my husband, who eats a lot, was satisfied with the amount of food.
