I stopped by after eating tonkatsu at a popular pork cutlet restaurant. The beef cutlet sandwich was worth the price. However, the croque-monsieur was incredibly delicious. I warmed it up in the microwave at home and the margarine and cheese were so tasty! Honestly, I didn't have high expectations because it's a chain restaurant, but I was pleasantly surprised. I would love to eat here again.

The crispy toast has a delicious taste. Having bread for lunch is quick and cost-effective. I feel like I might have a little more time for myself. I choose a menu with salad for lunch. It is said that the body gets cold in the afternoon, but vegetables are essential to make up for the lack of them.

It's been a long time since I stopped by Shitsuya to buy bread before going to work during my student days. There are several stores in Kyoto, and I visited the JR Yamashina station store on my way back. When you order bread and a drink for dine-in, the drink is discounted by 100 yen. Unfortunately, the coffee was disappointing as it was from a drink machine.

Tsuyaya's "Carne" is so famous nationwide that it is even called Kyoto's soul food. It's a simple yet delicious sandwich made with French bread, ham, and onion slices. Another classic item at Tsuyaya is the "Cascoute," which is also a simple sandwich made with French bread, ham, and cheese. The simplicity of these sandwiches has made them long-time bestsellers that never get old. Currently, the "Cascoute" is collaborating with the Kyoto City Transportation Bureau, and limited edition items with the seal of the subway's PR character, Uzumasa Moe-chan, are being sold at the subway station stores. A while back, the "Carne" also had a collaboration with the subway, featuring limited edition items with Moe-chan's packaging, but unfortunately, I didn't take any pictures... What a shame.

Next to Starbucks and Freshness Burger, there is a bakery called Shitsuya. Their Carne sandwich is crispy with lots of vegetables, and their coffee is delicious. Plus, it's only 600 yen with change back! You can order their morning toast, salad, and boiled egg anytime, which is convenient. When you're feeling peckish and want some coffee, I highly recommend it!

JR Yamashina Station, a cafe located right after exiting the ticket gate. I purchased the Carne for 210 yen. I had seen it on TV before and decided to try it. It is a simple taste with ham and onions sandwiched inside. I thought maybe this simplicity is the secret to its popularity.

Before returning to Osaka from Yamashina, I stopped by the station building where Shidoya is located to buy their famous Carne. It was about an hour before closing time, so there were only a few items left, and unfortunately, the Carne was sold out. Next to it, I noticed another item with the name Carne on it. I decided to give it a try and bought one, along with a popular Beef Cutlet Sandwich and a Casscoute for breakfast the next morning. I warmed them up slightly before enjoying. The Casscoute had a normal delicious taste, and the Beef Cutlet Sandwich was really tasty when slightly warmed. As for the mysterious Carne, it had marshmallow and chocolate inside, and when warmed up moderately, the chocolate and marshmallow became gooey. It was quite sweet, but if you like sweet things, it might not be bad. I heard they also serve luxurious Carne for eating in, so I would like to try it if I have the chance.

Shizuya is a small takeout shop known for its sandwiches inside train stations. I always wanted to visit a larger store, and I found one near Yamashina Station, which was convenient for me as I could transfer between JR and Keihan lines. I visited after having drinks at a nearby sushi izakaya. The display outside showed a picture of a luxurious sandwich called Carne, but unfortunately, they had run out of even the regular Carne sandwich by closing time. I couldn't confirm if the premium Carne was for dine-in only or if they also offered it for takeout. Instead, they had only one type of sandwich available, the Marshmallow Chocolate Carne. The next morning, I heated up the Beef Cutlet Sandwich and the Casscoute in the toaster. The sandwiches had a great texture, even though they had been in the fridge overnight. The oven toaster works wonders! The cutlet was still cold, so it might have been better to microwave it first. Now, let's see if the Marshmallow Chocolate Carne is tasty. When I tried to eat it without heating it up, the bread was a bit tough, and the chocolate bar was hard, making it difficult to eat. Although the package didn't mention heating it, I decided to warm it up, and it turned out to be delicious. The marshmallow melted into a gooey texture, and the chocolate softened. The bread became fluffy. I recommend heating it up a bit before eating. Marshmallow Chocolate Carne - 280 yen Mini Casscoute - 220 yen Beef Cutlet Sandwich - ?

This is a bakery cafe located in front of Yamashina Station. It is a famous chain in Kyoto. With a wide variety of menu options, I was torn between choices but ended up ordering the mixed sandwich set. The thick, chewy bread was generously filled with ingredients, making it very filling. It came with a side salad, so the meal was well-balanced. I used to frequent Shitsuya's sandwiches since my student days, and when I tried it again after a long time, the deliciousness had definitely been upgraded!

This is a time-shifted post. The visit date may not necessarily match the posting date. Located right outside Yamashina Station is the well-known Kyoto specialty shop called Shitsuya. They are famous for their carnes, but they also offer a unique item called "Danish Pepper Carne." They warmed it up for me. It consists of black pepper-seasoned onions and ham on Danish pastry. It's delicious and convenient. It's nice to have something like this once in a while. Thank you for the meal!

I came for breakfast and enjoyed the warm mini croissant which was fluffy and delicious. The service at the bakery in front of Yamashina Station on JR and Keihan lines was good, with a friendly staff member. The atmosphere in the eat-in area was nice. The price was average. I would rate this place between 3.0 to 3.5.

A must-buy item that you just can't resist. "Karune" for 200 yen. It may not feel like it, but it's actually a famous Kyoto specialty. If it were in Osaka, it would probably have a different version, like the "yes" and "no" of a certain pork bun. There are cheese and pepper versions to suit your taste. My personal recommendation is the pepper version - it's the best! "Pepper Karune" for 210 yen. It's just a little spicier with pepper. Officially, it says it's better when warmed up, but honestly, it's great when eaten cold. The crispy texture and peppery flavor are addicting. "Beef Sand" is also a solid choice. There's a half-size option too, so feel free to try it. But, the "Pepper Cold Karune" is the ultimate best.

"Oh, I didn't know they had this kind of thing." On this day during the Christmas season, I tried a Carne sandwich and a chocolate Stollen at this shop for the first time. I visited this shop for breakfast as I had some business in Yamashina, Kyoto. This time, I ordered a set of the "Premium Carne," a type of Carne that is a symbol of Shitsuya, with teriyaki chicken and boiled egg sandwiched inside. I had only tried the simple and classic Carne with ham, margarine, and onions before, so this new one was a pleasant surprise both in appearance and taste. After enjoying the Carne set, I decided to buy something for home and went to the display shelf with various bread. That's when I noticed a limited edition item for the Christmas season which I ended up purchasing, the "Chocolate Stollen." Personally, I have tried various Stollens before, but this was the first time I encountered one with chocolate not only coating the outside but also infused in the dough. Stollen is originally a sweet bread with a flavor often enhanced by alcohol, making it more suitable for adults. However, this one with chocolate had a strong chocolate taste rather than alcohol, making it likely to be enjoyed by even small children. I usually buy items like the Beef Cutlet sandwich or Carne for takeout during business trips or as gifts, but this experience of dining in and trying different bread was quite enjoyable. I look forward to discovering and sharing more interesting bread finds with everyone.

On Monday at 5:00 PM, I went to Shizuya at Yamashina Station. I ordered a "Cream Pan (180 yen)" and an "Iced Cafe Latte (360 yen)". When asked if I wanted the Cream Pan warmed up, I decided to try it that way. Normally, I eat it cold, but the staff recommended it warm. I took a bite of the Cream Pan. Delicious! The custard cream is incredibly soft, with a strong vanilla scent. It might indeed be tastier when warmed up. I had heard that Shizuya's Cream Pan is of high quality, but it exceeded my expectations. This shop also offers a premium version of their popular item "Karune". I will come back next time for lunch to try the premium Karune. Thank you for the meal.

After seeing the autumn leaves at Bishamon Hall, I had breakfast at "Shizuya JR Yamashina Ekimae Store" in front of Yamashina Station. It's a long-established bakery in Kyoto with a dining area. They offer premium carne there. I ordered the Prosciutto Cream Cheese Carne (640 yen), which comes with salad and coffee or tea. The bread was crispy, and the balance of cream cheese, margarine, tomato, and watercress was delicious! I wish there was a bit more prosciutto, but overall, it was tasty. The hot coffee finally warmed me up!

Just outside JR Yamashina Station, on the left hand side, you will find our shop. There is no parking available. The area is bustling with the recent opening of a large Muji store after the departure of the Daimaru department store in front of the station. Our shop has a spacious eat-in area, making it convenient to have a shop like ours near the station. Many customers purchase bread from Shizuya and use the eat-in space. They took away a sweet potato croquant for 185 yen including tax and a baked corn bread for 160 yen including tax. The sweet potato croquant had a delightful texture with sweet potato pieces scattered throughout, and it was delicious. The baked corn bread also had plenty of corn kernels. I would like to try eating in the store next time.

This is a bakery that operates in Kyoto. I visited the shop near Yamashina Station. They also have a café space. Let's have breakfast there. If you purchase a drink, you can eat the purchased bread in the café space. But this time, let's try the café menu. The café menu includes toast, sandwiches, and a premium carre. Carre is a small French bread sandwich with ham and onions. It's a popular menu at Shitsuya, supported by Kyoto residents, who are the second largest consumers of bread. So, I decided on the premium carre. There are six types: prosciutto cream cheese, salmon cream cheese, double BLT, teriyaki chicken and whole egg, plenty of vegetables, and bitter chocolate and cream. I chose the double BLT carre. It costs 630 yen and is made with bacon, sliced tomatoes, lettuce, and onions sandwiched in a petit French bread. The taste is good with a nice bacon aroma, but it's just average. The bread used for the sandwich doesn't seem particularly delicious either. And the balance between price and quality may be a bit off. Thank you for the meal.

I found a place in Porta selling liver pate and bought various things on a whim. I thought I should buy some baguette to go with it, so I went to the basement of ISETAN. It was crowded as closing time was near, and many of the breads were sold out, so I couldn't find exactly what I wanted. I ended up buying some things that weren't what I had in mind, and it left me feeling unsatisfied. So, I decided to stop by SIZUYA on my way to Yamashina Station. I was originally looking for a single baguette, but they had some in a plastic bag that looked good, so I bought it for 300 yen including tax. It was just the right amount to eat at home and was easy to eat. Baguettes are convenient for eating with pate, cream cheese, or even making French toast if you have the time. My usual favorites are Carne and Cuscute, but SIZUYA has a stable quality and is located in subway stations and various places, so I'll definitely visit when in need. This was my first time at the Yamashina store, but I'll make sure to drop by when I have time to spare while waiting for the train. Thank you for the meal.

The shop at Yamashina Station Rotary has turned into "Shizuya" without me realizing it!! Shizuya is my mother's favorite bakery in my mind!! I have memories of being taken there to eat many times when I was a child ♬ This time, I bought the "Carne (190 yen)" and my daughter's choice, the "Ebi Tamago Sand (500 yen)." The "Carne" was surprisingly delicious!! I used to mistakenly think that "Carne" was "Corone" and had lots of cream, so when I tried it and found out it wasn't sweet, I stopped choosing it..(laughs) The soft French bread is so fluffy and delicious!! The simple combination of ham, onions, and margarine. The bread is so deliciously fluffy!! The onions add a nice accent, and it was so delicious. The saltiness was just right!! Truly a long-standing bestseller ♬ The "Ebi Tamago Sand" was satisfyingly voluminous! Shrimp cutlet with egg salad..luxurious ♡ The shrimp cutlet with sweet and savory sauce was delicious~! Thank you for the delicious meal ◎
