Located in the basement of a building in Pontocho, this teppanyaki dining spot was a great find for a dinner in Shijo. I made a reservation online and opted for the limited-time Black Wagyu Sirloin Teppanyaki Course with 8 dishes for ¥3800 (excluding tax). The appetizer of yuba with caviar was delicious. The meat was tender and tasty. The course also included dessert, making it a really good deal. The food was delicious, reasonably priced, and the atmosphere was great. Highly recommended.

I found this restaurant online. The deciding factors were the good value for money and the relatively good reviews. I wonder what kind of restaurant it is? I called in advance and ordered the Wagyu beef teppanyaki course (8 dishes in total) for 4,400 yen (tax included). I also added the all-you-can-drink option (120 minutes for 1,650 yen, I think...). The atmosphere of the restaurant was not that of a high-end teppanyaki place, but more like a casual izakaya. I had imagined the classic teppanyaki experience of watching the chef cook in front of me, but it was a bit different, so I asked to be seated at a table instead. But that was also fine. The dishes were cooked by the chef on the hot teppan and served one after another, so it was not a problem at all. The course included: - Fresh yuba with fish caviar - Nanohana and mizuna salad - Wagyu beef sirloin steak (100 grams) - Rice - Clear soup - Pickles - Today's dessert (manju) - Coffee The meat was tender and delicious. The staff's service was pleasant, and I thoroughly enjoyed the meal. However, on this particular day, for some reason, all the other customers were foreigners, and there seemed to be staff who were fluent in English. It might have just been a coincidence, but it was a bit disappointing that the strong body odor and perfume of some of the foreign customers interfered with the taste of the food.

This is a hidden gem restaurant located in the underground of Pontocho. It has a calm atmosphere where you can relax and enjoy drinks and food. When I first visited around 2015, they had a wide variety of high-quality dishes at reasonable prices, such as cheese garlic rice. The staff were efficient and it truly felt like a hidden gem that I wanted to visit again. However, when I visited in 2018, the menu had become limited and the quality of the dishes seemed to have declined. The staff also seemed less enthusiastic. I had high expectations, so I left feeling a bit disappointed and ended up leaving shortly after entering the restaurant. *The first half of the posted photos is from 2015, while the second half is from 2018.

The service is a bit lacking in efficiency and experience. The prices are reasonable, but the service could be a bit better.

Miyazaki beef is really delicious. I was surprised by its taste that rivals Kobe beef. It is quite reasonable in price. I found this place on Tabelog during a business trip and was able to enjoy it alone, but I definitely want to come back again!

The restaurant I was taken to for Christmas dinner was Kyoto Shikian. The restaurant was located underground, so I felt excited as I descended the stairs. There were only a few tables and mostly counter seats. There were also some customers dining alone. Since it was Christmas, we had reserved the Christmas course meal, which included dishes like duck, beef fillet, foie gras, abalone, and oysters. It was a luxurious course, but the price was not too high, which was nice. And the food was really delicious. The presentation was stylish and the taste was gentle. I really liked it! The dessert at the end was my favorite, crème brûlée with coffee-flavored ice cream. I don't drink coffee, so I gave that part to my companion, but I took a bite and it was indeed a gentle flavor. There were also families with children and groups of friends dining, so I thought I would like to bring someone with me next time. Thank you for the wonderful meal! ❤︎

This is a place where you can enjoy casual course meals with chopsticks. The view and atmosphere of the restaurant are not necessary. The cost performance and service are great. All the dishes are delicious. Next time, I would like to order a single dish and enjoy a drink. It would be nice to have a few more types of wine available.
