This is the place to visit when you feel like eating blowfish. It may be a bit hard to find at first, but once you get used to it, it's easy. They offer all-you-can-drink options, set courses, and individual dishes. On this day, I ordered my favorite items individually. Blowfish sashimi, blowfish skin sashimi, grilled blowfish, blowfish shabu-shabu, and grilled blowfish are all delicious. The grilled blowfish milt is also amazing.

Today, I worked in Shijo-Karasuma again. The weekly weather forecast is all rain, but today is clear so let's eat out! I went to Marufuku Shijo-Karasuma branch. Although they are originally a seafood restaurant, they offer affordable lunch sets. I ordered the most popular Hirekatsu set. The neighboring inbound customers were eating a hot pot, quite a contrast to my order. It arrived in just 5 minutes - rice, miso soup, salad, pickles, and 7 pieces of Hirekatsu. It was quite a generous portion! The Hirekatsu had a crispy coating and was served piping hot. Delicious! Since it's a seafood specialty restaurant, you can also enjoy dishes like crab and conger eel. It's almost conger eel season, isn't it? Of course, they also serve blowfish from lunchtime. Thank you for the meal! #Marufuku Shijo-Karasuma branch #Hirekatsu lunch #Cozy izakaya #Gourmet #GourmetInstagram #Want to connect with gourmet lovers #Want to connect with fish lovers #Affordable lunch set #Hirekatsu Instagram #Want to connect with Hirekatsu lovers #Instagrammable seafood restaurant #Delicious dishes #Photo Hirekatsu #Want to connect with seafood lovers #Kyoto City #Kyoto Gourmet #Kyoto Station #Reviving traditional townhouses #Kyoto Prefecture Gourmet #They also have blowfish #Japan #Kyoto #Gourmet #Japanese food #They also have eel.

Today, I was at the Kyoto office in the morning, and for lunch, I went to Marufuku with Chimpanzee & Bee Hachi. We ordered the most popular Hire Katsu set meal. The freshly fried Hire Katsu was crispy, tender, and super delicious. I went to "Marufuku," a restaurant that renovated an old folk house while preserving the charm of the traditional townhouse, and serves fugu and kushikatsu. I went for lunch and ordered the "hirekatsu set meal." The lunch menu was reasonably priced and had a variety of options. The hirekatsu was served promptly, and I was surprised by the generous portion of rice. The freshly fried hirekatsu was tender, and the shredded daikon radish side dish was lightly seasoned and delicious. I plan to visit again with friends to try the "fugu set meal."

I used my points! I ordered the three kinds of rice bowl, and it tasted pretty good. The daily special set meals seem to be a better deal in terms of cost-effectiveness, so if I were to visit again, I might go for those instead. The three kinds of rice bowl was delicious though! Overall, it was decent compared to the price!

I had the number one popular hirekatsu set meal for 970 yen, which was sold out when I visited before. There was a slight price increase of 110 yen for all lunch items starting from November. However, the hirekatsu set meal came with plenty of 7 pieces of hirekatsu, rice, miso soup, salad, simmered hijiki seaweed, and pickles. The hirekatsu was tender and you could choose your preferred sauce. The simmered hijiki seaweed with a hint of sansho pepper was a nice touch. For less than 1,000 yen, this set meal is quite a good deal. I would definitely come back when I want to have a hearty meal. Thank you for the meal.

I found a restaurant on the way to Dragon Inn and decided to visit today. There were many options for lunch, making it hard to choose. I felt like eating something light today, so I ordered the Grilled Yellowtail with Miso Paste and Pumpkin Mince Set Meal for 970 yen. The set meal included grilled yellowtail with miso paste, pumpkin mince, shredded cabbage salad with mayonnaise, simmered dried daikon radish, miso soup, rice, and pickles. The grilled yellowtail with miso paste had a nice flavor of Kyoto-style miso. It would have been even better with a thicker cut or more fat, but it was decent for the price. The pumpkin was soft and flavorful, reminding me of autumn. The shredded cabbage salad had mayonnaise on top, giving it a home-cooked meal feel. Next time, I want to try the Pork Cutlet Set Meal. It was sold out today, showing it's the most popular item! Thank you for the meal.

This is Marufuku restaurant! It is a renovated traditional Kyoto townhouse with a cozy atmosphere that perfectly complements the delicious food. The combination of the ambiance and the dishes makes it even more wonderful! They serve dishes like blowfish hot pot, blowfish sperm sac, and crab sashimi! It's so good.

A few minutes' walk from Shijo Station and Karasuma Station. Had lunch here today. I was seated at a table, although I didn't confirm the seating arrangement. The main menu consists of seafood dishes, and there are also lunch sets with meat options. I ordered the pork cutlet set. Let's dig in! The set meal is quite filling as it looks, with a nice volume. The pork cutlet is hot, tender, and delicious. It was a satisfying lunch that left me full. Overall, the seating is spaced out and the tables are large. The lunch specials, including the daily specials, are priced under 900 yen, making it a reasonably priced and comfortable option in the area.

Fukufuku Course Marufuku @ Karasuma Shita no Ko
My child wanted to eat tetchiri, so we came here for the Fukufuku Course x2. One of them had tessa as a bonus, but I couldn't bring myself to try the natural one. The tessa had a good texture and was delicious. I tried eating two slices of tessa. The butsuzashi with cabbage and green onions was delicious. The karaage had a rich flavor that went well with alcohol. The grilled fugu, dipped in soy sauce or ponzu, was delicious. The grilled shirako was creamy and rich with the sauce. The fugu sushi was light and refreshing. The extra-large butsutechiri had a satisfyingly large cut of fish. The zosui was made to our preferred broth strength. I didn't try the dessert, so I can't comment on it. The service was polite, and the atmosphere of the traditional Kyoto townhouse was enjoyable for savoring fugu.

I had lunch here one day and ordered the crab tempura rice bowl (1380 yen). The tempura was crispy and delicious. The salad with corn seemed unnecessary for this lunch though. It might be a matter of personal preference.

I came here for a social gathering at a training camp. We started with boiled fugu with ponzu sauce, followed by fugu sashimi. The texture was firm and it tasted great with the sauce. The hot pot had napa cabbage, vegetables, and fugu meat. The white meat was tender, light, and delicious, although a bit tricky to eat due to the bones. The paper hot pot was a nice touch. We finished with porridge made by adding rice to the pot. It was flavorful and tasty. We had all-you-can-drink drinks, so I mainly had highballs. The party went smoothly and ended well. Thank you for the meal.

I stayed at a hotel near Shijo Station and made a reservation at a fugu and crab restaurant nearby. When I entered, there was no one there, which made me a little anxious, but a staff member came from the back and I felt relieved. I had crab shabu-shabu and grilled fugu. The crab was fresh and delicious.

Visited in July 2021. At the time of posting, the restaurant had a rating of 3.02 on Tabelog with 1 review.
Today's lunch was at the izakaya "Marufuku Shijo Karasuma" where you can enjoy high-end ingredients like pufferfish, crab, eel, and conger eel. I had already decided on my order after checking the menu yesterday. I went for the "Kani Ikura Don" (Crab Meat and Salmon Roe Bowl) which came with miso soup, a mini salad, and pickles. There were two other daily specials available: 1) Salmon sashimi set meal for 970 yen, and 2) Fillet cutlet set meal for 860 yen.
The restaurant had a calm and traditional Japanese atmosphere, and I was seated at a table where I could relax and enjoy my meal. Soon enough, my eagerly awaited dish arrived on a tray... Wait, is this what I ordered? I had chosen based on the photo, so when this was served, I was a bit surprised. I wish they could make the dish look more like the photo, even if it means using a smaller bowl. The only advantage of the larger bowl is that the ingredients don't overflow, making it easier to eat. Despite the visual disappointment, the ikura and crab meat were delicious. I suggest the restaurant consider changing the photo on the menu to match the actual serving or switch to a smaller bowl. Thank you for the meal.

I visited around 17:50 on a regular day. There were no other customers at the time.
Daily special set meal for 860 yen including tax.
The daily special for that day was Bibimbap and Karaage.
Karaage: The meat quality and the taste of the coating were excellent, it was my favorite kind of Karaage. The taste of the coating was exactly as it looked. The texture was also great.
Bibimbap: The minced meat was in a Japanese style and easy to eat, it was very good. I could get a lot of vegetables and protein from the egg. It was nice that the Gochujang was served separately.
Simmered hijiki: The flavoring was not too strong, so the well-balanced seasoning was evident in the hijiki. It strangely went well with the Bibimbap, it was exquisite!
Salad: It had my favorite Caesar dressing.
Miso soup: It had enoki mushrooms in it.

Visited at 6:30 pm on a certain day in August of the 3rd year of Reiwa. Planned a one-night trip with my daughter who came back home, this time to Kyoto for collecting Goshuin stamps. Since our hotel was around Hankyu Kawaramachi Station, I searched online for good restaurants nearby. I decided to make a reservation here as I thought eel is a must in summer. I didn't plan to go for a course meal, but the menu looked good so I ordered on the spot. It was great that you could also order additional dishes as you like. The eel course menu included eel vinegar, eel soup, grilled eel with miso, eel fried in tempura batter, eel hot pot, and udon. I added eel tempura for 990 yen and eel sushi for 860 yen. I skipped the dessert as I wanted to go to Nijo Castle's Naked. The eel hot pot was plentiful and delicious with the eel broth enhancing the flavor of the udon for the finish. I'm not sure how those who always eat eel at hotel restaurants would feel, but this place was really reasonable, with a calm atmosphere and friendly staff (the phone response was also great). I was extremely satisfied with the eel course. I definitely want to go there again! I also want to try crab and blowfish next time. Thank you for the feast! (*´ω`*)

I had a course of blowfish dishes at Marufuku in Shijo Karasuma - blowfish sashimi, blowfish hot pot, and blowfish tempura. The blowfish hot pot was served in a paper pot that easily tore, but it held up well from the hot pot to the porridge. It was my first time having blowfish at a restaurant, and I thought I would only be eating the tender meat. Turns out, there are quite a few bones.

The katsu was cheap but each piece was small and the taste was just average. Also, it was disappointing that the service was slow.
