This is what a retro coffee shop is like! The impression is that there are many regular customers who relax and unwind. The dishes come out a bit slowly, and they don't all come out at once for groups. It's a place where you can really enjoy yourself when you have some extra time. The Neapolitan pasta with chewy noodles is excellent. The old-fashioned sausage was a nostalgic treat. The vegetables are cut in large pieces, making them very satisfying to eat. Gratin Neapolitan 960 yen. Closed on Tuesdays, and there was a sign saying they are open from Thursday afternoon. Be careful when you go.

I went around 5 pm on a weekday and the seats were mostly filled, but I was able to sit right away. The yakisoba had a strong flavor and a good portion size. The chairs were comfortable to sit in. It was a cozy cafe atmosphere, not too noisy, so I thought it would be fine to go alone.

It was Showa era, retro, and often featured in the media, so I finally got a chance to visit! I tried the ham sandwich morning set, which was only 600 yen with coffee. Kyoto has many cafes that focus on morning sets, so the quality was decent for the price. While I was eating, a regular customer maybe? gave me a look like "that's my seat," so I looked away... It's a common thing in cafes with strong local customers. Thank you for the meal!

A traditional coffee shop located away from the center of Kyoto city. I was surprised to find it full even after 2 PM. I could smell the aroma of omurice from the shop, so I ordered the omurice for 850 yen. I wanted to add extra for 200 yen, but the staff told me it would be like three servings of omurice, so I gave up on that. The ingredients were similar to Napolitan, with sausages, onions, and green peppers. The price was reasonable and the portion size was satisfying.

I arrived at the restaurant at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The place was quite busy, but I managed to secure a seat towards the back and sat down. There were mostly elderly people and young couples. I wonder if this is due to the influence of social media. I ordered the Napoli-style hamburger steak (1000 yen), which arrived 30 minutes later. It came with a mini salad of cabbage and boiled egg. The hamburger steak was served on a large plate with sauce, and the Napoli-style pasta was also included. The hamburger steak was tender with fine meat fibers, and the seasoning was mild probably due to the sauce. It retained its heat until the end, which was enjoyable. The Napoli-style pasta was similar to what I had before, with onions, green peppers, and sausage in a rich ketchup-based sauce. The noodles were chewy and smooth, although I thought they were a bit thinner than I remembered. I also ordered a melon soda float (700 yen) for a classic cafe experience. It was served in a tall glass with melon soda and topped with vanilla ice cream and a cherry. The nostalgic appearance and refreshing sweetness made it a delightful treat. Overall, I was satisfied with the delicious meal, but I recommend visiting this place when you want to relax and take your time. It's a great spot for those who love traditional cafes and coffee shops.

The morning set costs between 500 and 700 yen, which is great value for money. It's an old-fashioned coffee shop that is actually quite famous. Despite the large space, 70% of the tables were filled during the morning hours. It's a beloved spot in the neighborhood. Definitely worth a visit.

I have been addicted to omurice recently and finally got to visit the café Hisui that I had been wanting to go to. Lately, retro-style cafés seem to be popular, as there were many young people there. Of course, there were also many locals. I ordered the Demi-Glace Omurice, which was very generous in portion. The inside was ketchup rice with chunks of sausages and bell peppers. I personally prefer omurice with less ketchup rice, so the slight sogginess of the ketchup rice at Hisui was a bit of a downside for me. However, it was delicious. Next time, I want to try their parfait. Thank you for the meal.

Furefure Fureto♪ [Cafe Hisui] French Toast Established in 1961, this popular cafe offers a wide range of menu items and a retro Showa-era atmosphere. From classic items like cream soda, Napolitan, and omurice to set meals like hamburger, ginger pork, tonkatsu, and steak, there is something for everyone. The signature French toast at Cafe Hisui is made by soaking thick slices of bread in egg mixture, then frying them in butter and topping with maple syrup and powdered sugar. The crispy and juicy texture, along with a refreshing hint of lemon, makes it a delightful dish that you'll finish in no time. Meow meow, I love it♪ Located at 41-2 Shirono Nishi Gosho Tamachi, Kyoto, Kyoto Prefecture. About a 10-minute walk from Kitaoji Station.

♡【Cafe Hisui】♡ Time slip to the Showa era ❤︎‬‪♡ French Toast ¥700♡ Established in 1966, Cafe Hisui still retains the nostalgic atmosphere of the Showa era, making it a classic coffee shop where you can feel like you've traveled back in time. The exterior exudes a sense of history and charm, making it easy to fall in love with. When you sit here and close your eyes, you can transcend time and space. The "Blend Coffee" for ¥430 seems to perfectly complement the ambiance rather than just the food. As soon as you take a sip, you might find yourself lost in a magical sense of comfort, as if time has slipped away without you realizing.❤︎❤︎♡ Loved by adults and children alike, the French Toast at Cafe Hisui is made by soaking thinly sliced bread in a mixture of eggs and milk. The bread, soaked in the egg mixture, is then lightly cooked with plenty of butter until it develops a crispy texture. Topped with lemon slices, maple syrup, and powdered sugar, this French Toast is irresistible. The generous amount of maple syrup adds a delicious sweetness, while the lemon underneath imparts a refreshing citrus aroma and acidity to the bread, allowing you to enjoy a delightful flavor contrast. This French Toast is not just sweet, it offers a balance of refreshing acidity and gentle sweetness. Give it a try!⸜(◍ ´꒳` ◍)⸝♡ Name: Cafe Hisui Reservation: Available Access: Right by Kyoto City Bus "Kitaoji Horikawa" stop. 723m from Kitaoji Station Hours: [Mon-Sat] 9:00-21:00, [Sun] 9:00-20:00 Closed: No regular holidays ♡#CafeHisui #KyotoCafe #KitaojiCafe #KyotoMorning #FrenchToast #MorningActivity #CoffeeShop

A long-established coffee shop located in the northeast of the Horikawa Kitaoji intersection in Kita Ward, Kyoto City. It has been around for about 40-50 years. I remember it being there since I was a child. The entrance is written in hiragana as "kohi to oshokuji". The aged appearance adds to its charm. Some seats have game consoles that double as tables. The game seems to be "Shanghai", quite an old one. However, I must admit that compared to other old-fashioned coffee shops, the taste here is slightly lacking. Even something as simple as a salad lacks the freshness and passion you would find in a top-quality establishment like Françoise. Therefore, if you go with the mindset of enjoying the atmosphere and spending a leisurely time, you will likely have a good time. A cup of coffee costs 430 yen, which is typical for a traditional shop (although it used to be cheaper in the past, sometimes even 300 yen). Sitting back and watching the passing cars, you will feel a sense of comfort and relaxation.

- [Cafe Hisui] Kitaoji - Spaghetti Gratin 860 yen I'm a light-footed person. This place is a bit of a topic in the retro cafe boom. Yeah. Let me tell you. The atmosphere is nice, the menu is extensive, but what is spaghetti gratin that takes 1 hour to arrive without any explanation after ordering? I thought they might have mistakenly made pilaf instead. Well, indeed, gratin takes time, but an hour? Oh, 1 hour?! It's a nice retro cafe, so it would have been fine if I could leisurely wait while reading a book, but I don't eat breakfast, so I get extremely hungry by lunchtime. Oh, it was tough! I waited and waited, but it didn't come! No explanation at all. Oh, a small salad came first, but it took a long time for the main dish to arrive! The kitchen seems to be run by one person and one person in the hall, judging from what I saw. Each dish seems to be carefully made. Well, it's impossible, right? When I glanced at the family next to me, the wife's hamburger arrived first, and after the wife finished eating, the husband's omelette rice finally arrived, and she said, "Did you forget about Papa?" It's really something to worry about. Oh, the spaghetti gratin was smaller than I expected, but I was so hungry after waiting for an hour, so anything would taste delicious. I finished it in 10 minutes. Well, it was really delicious. But I wouldn't go there when I'm hungry or when I have a tight schedule. I wanted to go to various places that day, but I couldn't because of this. Maybe I'm not cut out for cafe hopping because I'm too impatient. I like retro cafes, though! After a long time, my family went out together. We had a very late lunch, arriving around 5 pm for our first visit to the restaurant. Surprisingly, the interior was quite spacious with only about 30% of the tables occupied. The restaurant had a dimly lit atmosphere, with sofa seats that you sink into, lukewarm water, and slightly small tables. The decor had a monochrome retro feel that I personally love. Yes, that's why we came here (laughs). We ordered the Spaghetti Gratin and Pizza Toast, classic dishes that represent the retro feel of the Showa era. They were nostalgic yet somehow new and fresh. The Pudding a la Mode at the table next to us looked so delicious that we ended up ordering one too (laughs). We also had two cups of blended coffee (laughs). All the dishes were quite filling, and we left the restaurant satisfied. This is a longstanding coffee shop established in 1961, now run by the fourth-generation female owner. Despite being busy, the staff served us with a smile and great care. The place has a nostalgic charm that has witnessed the changing times. It was a blissful moment spent there. By the time we left, the restaurant was about 80% full. Clearly, many people love this place.

I visited the restaurant around noon and saw some regular customers. The spacious interior surprised me, as well as the variety of menu options. I was having trouble deciding what to order for lunch, but the spaghetti gratin caught my eye. I was curious about it, so I decided to order it without asking. The restaurant kept getting busier with customers, including many young women, possibly influenced by Instagram. After about a 10-minute wait, my partner's set meal arrived first, which looked like a generous bento box. My gratin arrived a bit later, served with salad. It was spaghetti gratin with a white sauce on top of a ketchup-flavored napolitan base, topped with plenty of sausage and stretchy cheese. I've never had anything like it before. The spaghetti had a nice tangy flavor from the ketchup, and the addition of bell peppers was great. However, the heavy cheese on top made it a bit difficult to neatly twirl the pasta with a fork, maybe due to the dish it was served in. I wanted to try the desserts too, but they didn't arrive in time. Although it's not a location I frequent often, I would like to come back again. Next time, I'll make sure to enjoy a cup of coffee as well. Thank you for the meal.

Jade lemon squash was delicious with its fizzy taste! I enjoyed sitting by the slightly fogged window. The cozy atmosphere of the cafe with its plush chairs is lovely. I always find myself glancing at the bento box-like set meal and the huge omurice. 😂😂

Retro café Hisui-san. Today I had coffee jelly. Lately, I've been obsessed with the coffee jelly at cafes. Hisui-san's coffee jelly was incredibly delicious! I felt like I had discovered a hidden gourmet treat. There were regular customers, young customers, and customers of all ages. I was personally intrigued by the set meal that other customers were eating, which looked like a bento box.

I visited the café Hisui on Kitaoji Horikawa, which I had been to before. It was close to lunchtime, so the front seats were quite full, but there were empty seats towards the back. This time, I ordered the fruit parfait that had caught my eye. After a short wait, the parfait was brought to me. It had an artistic design that made it almost too beautiful to eat. The glass was filled with fresh cream, large slices of kiwi and orange, making it very filling. The fruits were all fresh and had a great texture. I think the flavors of the ingredients were well highlighted. At the bottom, there was a sweet and sour orange sauce with finely chopped apples and oranges. The cream was slightly sweet, so you could drizzle the orange sauce on top to enjoy a change in flavor. You could taste the juicy fruits and the cold ice cream. It was a perfect dessert for the still hot weather. The atmosphere was as cozy as ever, so I would like to visit again if I have the chance.

Katsudon for ¥850 including tax, just as the reviews say, it's delicious. The taste is authentic and not like your average cafe. The sofa upholstery shows some wear and tear (which might bother you during the day), but other than that, the place is not bad for its age. The customers are a mix of university students and older adults, about half and half. It's quite popular. The fact that there are solo female customers shows that the taste, cleanliness, atmosphere, and service are good. The luxurious Showa-era interior makes me curious about the nighttime atmosphere of the place. Just a 1-minute walk from Kitaoji Horikawa bus stop.

When you come to Kyoto by car, you'll end up stopping by this charming retro café called Kisui. The interior has a lot of nostalgic vibes and is always bustling with customers, including many young people. The menu is extensive, with a slightly heavy omurice but delicious strawberry milk and visually appealing desserts. The parking lot is on the east side of the building and can be difficult to find a spot when it's busy. Overall, it's a great café in Kyoto.

I had been curious about this coffee shop for a while. It has a retro Showa era atmosphere both on the outside and inside. There were customers of all ages, from young people to the elderly. This time, I ordered the Neapolitan spaghetti (700 yen). The noodles were chewy, and the sausages were cut into large pieces, giving it a satisfying texture. It also came with a mini salad of cabbage and a sunny-side-up egg, which added to the value. I was worried before entering that this coffee shop might not have a non-smoking section, but on this day, I saw a sign saying that all seats were non-smoking, which was a relief (although it may vary depending on the situation?). Anyway, it was my first time there, but the food, service, and atmosphere were all very good. I want to go again. Next time, I think I'll try ordering a parfait or some other dessert.

This shop was full of sweet memories from high school. After school, it was our routine to gather at a so-called coffee shop and hang out. Our high school had a free atmosphere, and we could skip classes until 10 units, so we had a lot of freedom to come and go from school. Because of this, we would often visit different coffee shops in the neighborhood. This shop was a place where we were introduced to girls from other high schools, and back then, most of our dates were spent at coffee shops. It has been over 40 years since I last visited this place. The exterior and interior remained unchanged, just like the old-fashioned coffee shops from back then. The only difference was that there were more elderly people and young women, which was surprising. It seems like the retro Showa-style pure coffee shops are popular now. I usually only ordered drinks back then, but this time I decided to try their lunch menu. I ordered the omurice for 750 yen (tax included). It arrived in about 7-8 minutes. It was a large omurice with demi-glace sauce. There was a small quail egg on top, and it came with miso soup with wheat gluten and seaweed. The taste was exactly as expected, with ketchup rice wrapped in egg and topped with a mild demi-glace sauce. It was a nostalgic taste of omurice. The owner seemed to have changed, but the Showa-era atmosphere remained the same, which was nice. These types of shops have become rare, but it was almost full on this weekday, possibly due to a small boom in popularity. I hope these kinds of shops don't disappear. They are the only places where I can feel the nostalgia of my high school days. Other favorite foods from the past like the fried rice from "Hyakumanryo", the ramen from "Tonkotsu", the cocoa from "Byron", and the okonomiyaki from "Miyatake" have all disappeared. Time may change, but the taste of delicious food that remains in our core does not fade, and we may be seeking that taste somewhere. I hope this shop continues to thrive for a long time.
