I purchased some Nagomiya rice crackers as a souvenir upon request. The shop is small but neatly displays a variety of rice crackers, each one tempting to buy. I would like to try a different flavor next time.

In Kyoto, there is a long-established "arare" shop. The "bubu arare" (arare to put in ochazuke, etc.) seems to be popular. When my eldest daughter's family went to USJ, they stopped by Kyoto and sent some to me. There are 6 types of "arare" and some other things I bought separately, as well as Christmas cards from the little ones. The "arare" is light and delicious. The "black pepper" and "sansho" have a spicy kick, which goes well with beer. The "nori maki arare," "sansho," "senmaiarare," "black pepper," "moist okaki," and "shrimp salt" are all tasty. The Christmas cards from the little ones are cute, and the present made by the older child is adorable. I love okaki, so I'm happy. The cards from the little ones are so cute, just looking at them makes me feel warm and fuzzy. ^^

Located about 1km from Nishikyogoku Station, I visited this shop because I wanted to eat delicious rice crackers. There were various types of rice crackers, so I bought a few randomly. My personal favorite is the nori roll. It has a refreshing aftertaste that reminds me of plums, and I can eat as many as I want. It's a shop that is convenient for souvenirs. I would like to go buy some more when I run out.

I received a souvenir from a specialist shop that makes mentaiko (spicy cod roe) products - mentaiko senbei. These are thin rice crackers with mentaiko mixed in, similar to squid ink senbei. The flavor of the mentaiko is not too spicy, and the light texture makes it a dangerously addictive snack! It was really delicious.

Narumiya is famous for its "bubu arare." If you're not familiar with "bubu arare," it's those small rice crackers that come in packages like the ones found in instant ochazuke mixes or in genmaicha tea. Besides these small rice crackers, they also make regular Kyoto-style arare and okaki. You can find their products in supermarkets, but if you visit their factory outlet, you might find some great deals like big bags for 2,500 yen or cans for 3,000 yen. The company was established in 1923 and it's a business worth supporting. There's something special about their bubu arare that sets it apart from other snacks. As a kid, I remember getting into arguments with my siblings over the amount of arare in our shared ochazuke. Maybe that's where my love for "bubu arare" started. I received guidance from my friend who is very particular about things! They only eat delicious food and have high expectations! The place is easy to find as it faces the main road with a sign saying "Factory Direct Sales!" People from Osaka and Shiga with their car number plates often come here to shop. However, there is no eat-in option, so it's not crowded as people just buy and leave. Now, let's go inside. Right in front of you, there are bags piled up like "great value sets" or "plentiful sets". If it's for home use, then this place is more than enough! There was nothing broken or damaged, and the "black bean salad" was really delicious. It came in a good amount, wasn't too heavy, and didn't leave that heavy feeling in your chest like after eating rice crackers. It's so light and you'll finish it in no time (dangerous, haha). The most popular item is the "Kyoto seven spice", which is spicy, crispy, and delicious. The second popular item, "sansho pepper", is irresistibly addictive in taste, and you'll keep reaching for more. The small square shape with clean cuts is really pleasing to look at. Many rice crackers look messy when placed on a plate, but these fit neatly and elegantly. I bought 3-4 bags just for myself, but the taste is so good that I want to share it with others! It's also a great souvenir from Kyoto.

Winter greetings from relatives arrived. It's a selection of arare from Kyoto Narumiya! There are various types of arare in a dozen! Yoshino loves arare, kakimochi, and similar snacks so much that she tries not to buy and eat them herself (laughs). In Kyoto, there are many individual snack shops that make delicious snacks. Narumiya is a famous arare shop known for its bubu arare. They have many stores in Kyoto Station, making it easy to get.
- Uruokaki: The chewy texture of uruchimai rice is irresistible. The flavor of tamarisoy sauce, a favorite type of snack for Yoshino.
- Hososhichimi: It's like persimmon seeds. It has a hint of shichimi flavor but not spicy, a very elegant persimmon seed. Using shichimi from Shichimiya, it's no wonder it's delicious.
- Epi Salad: Slightly salty. It's easy to get addicted to the good oil separation.
- Norimaki: A classic norimaki arare. Not too salty, with a refreshing aftertaste. They use Hiyoku Mochi from Saga, known for its strong stickiness and mochi-like texture. They steam it in a steamer, pound it with a mortar, and finish it as arare. Indeed, all the snacks and arare are chewy, crispy, and quite delicious.
Although Yoshino usually tries not to eat snacks at home, she can't help but open a bag right away. You may be surprised, but Kyoto's snacks and arare are really delicious! They have a good texture and an elegant taste. They may not get much attention as souvenirs, but they are hidden specialties. Thank you for the meal!

I wanted to gather different kinds of arare, so I came here. There are various types of arare, including rain arare, making it perfect for both personal use and souvenirs! Today, I selected a set called "Kyoto's Gathering" as a souvenir, which contains several varieties of arare in one bag. It has a refined taste that appeals to a wide range of ages. I also tried it myself, and it has a simple yet enjoyable flavor with a variety of textures. It's perfect for enjoying with tea. They also have other assorted sets, so next time I want to treat myself to one! Thank you for the meal!

I love this rice cracker so much that I have to refrain from ordering it because once I start eating, I can't stop. It has a crunchy texture with a salty flavor and a spicy kick from the shichimi pepper. At first, it may seem quite spicy, but as you keep eating, your taste buds get numb and you become addicted. Whenever I visit my hometown, I always buy it. It's sold at random stores, but you can also find it at Miyakomichi in the Kintetsu Department Store near the Hachijo exit of JR Kyoto Station. They also offer online sales. One haiku: I want everyone to try it because I love it so much, but I don't want it to become too popular.

On Sundays, they are closed, but they are open until around 7:30 p.m. on weekdays. Inside the bag, there are two types of rice crackers mixed together: slightly reddish rice crackers with sakura shrimp and rice crackers with seaweed mixed with mayonnaise. Each bag weighs 105g and costs 320 yen. When you eat them, they have a nice balance of saltiness and a distinct mayonnaise flavor. At first, I was skeptical about mayonnaise flavor, but rice crackers and mayonnaise flavor actually go well together. They also sell nostalgic flavors, such as sugar rice crackers. These light and slightly sweet rice crackers have a nostalgic taste reminiscent of festival snacks.

I got some rice crackers from this shop somewhere~. It's called Shrimp Salad. It seems to use salt from Christmas Island. First of all, the rice crackers have a solid texture and finish, giving a high-quality impression. And then, there's Christmas Island salt on them, but it feels somehow refreshing, with a clean aftertaste. Not heavy. Delicious. Both the rice crackers and especially the salt stand out.

I visited the Aki no Daikyoto exhibition at Sendai Mitsukoshi. I usually write reviews about sweets and desserts, but actually, I have always preferred salty snacks like rice crackers since I was a child! I was really looking forward to trying the rice crackers at this local product exhibition. When I arrived at the booth, there were various types of rice crackers lined up. Each one had samples available, but what caught my eye was the small bags. You could choose any four bags for 540 yen (tax included), which was a great deal. I bought some for myself and also for my colleagues and friends. Each bag had a light and fragrant taste that wasn't too overpowering, making me want to reach for another one. I finished them all in no time and wished I had bought more (laughs). I realized in that moment that I actually prefer soy sauce or salty rice crackers over sweet snacks. I hadn't heard of this shop before, but I know of a rice cracker shop in Kyoto that I've been wanting to visit for a long time, so I'm looking forward to comparing the rice crackers there next time. Thank you for the delicious treats! I enjoyed them very much~♡

On May 31, 2015, I drove towards Shiga for a friend's birthday party. We stopped at Otsu Service Area (upward) for a break. There was a corner with snacks from Narumiya at the shopping area near the checkout, where they were selling 3 bags for 500 yen. I bought the following snacks:
- Black Pepper Rice Cracker 35g: Made using the traditional steaming and pounding method, then baked until crispy with a far-infrared burner, seasoned with black pepper and salt.
- Nori Soft Pea 60g
- Cheese Rice Cracker 30g: Made by baking the pounded rice cake until fragrant, then seasoned with powdered cheese. Perfect for snacking, with cheese sprinkled at about 12.5% on the rice cracker.
I brought them home and tried them immediately. My favorite was the Black Pepper Rice Cracker, but the other two were also perfect for beer snacks. I'm definitely hooked! I also saw a Mayo Rice Cracker with shrimp (sakura shrimp) and seaweed, seasoned with mayonnaise, which looked delicious (I'll aim for the Mayo Rice Cracker next time). Thank you for the meal!

Since last month, they have been having a summer sale, and the discounted price of the economical rice crackers, originally 324 yen, is now 298 yen. It's only 26 yen cheaper, so I waited until today to go. Today, they added the popular sansho flavor to the economical rice crackers, so I finally went to buy them. They offer samples, and the burdock rice crackers were delicious, so I thought they would make a nice gift for my friends and bought 3 bags for 237 yen each, along with the sansho rice crackers, nanami salad, and moromi, totaling 10 bags. If you spend over 2000 yen, you get a limited edition black sugar peanut rice cracker called Komichi for free. The limited quantity sansho rice crackers are limited to 5 bags per person, so I got 3 bags. I can easily go anytime by bike, so it's convenient for me. I served a little bit on a plate to avoid overeating, with moromi on the left and sansho on the right. The shapes are mixed and fun. The sansho flavor is a bit weak, is it a deception? I only buy economical products, so I don't know the quantity of regular products, but the economical sansho rice crackers come in 150g packs. The sale is until August 3rd, located on the north side of Takatsuji Street, near Hankyu Oasis supermarket.
