On Saturday around 2 pm, two of us visited the cafe. We are big fans of pancakes, so we decided to indulge in some pancake activities today as well! This cafe is known for its strong anime theme, which we didn't notice last time we peeked in. The cafe often holds collaboration events with anime and other similar themes. The interior of the cafe has hammocks and a unique atmosphere, but this time we were overwhelmed by the loud anime songs, videos playing, and anime posters covering the walls.
The pancakes here are called "Souffle Hotcakes," a unique name that caught our attention. The menu, with photos, made it easy to choose. You can choose from a Small size for 1400 yen (30 minutes to bake) or a Regular size for 1600 yen (40 minutes to bake). We ordered the "Honey Butter" on the side. The Souffle Hotcakes were indeed unique in appearance, resembling more of a madeleine than a pancake. The texture was incredibly fluffy, well-cooked, fragrant, and not too sweet. They were absolutely delicious! The huge dollop of whipped cream served with it was light and delightful, with a hint of sweetness. The decision to have the Honey Butter on the side was perfect, as the hotcakes already had a buttery flavor, and adding more would have made it too rich and sweet. Plain is the way to go here!
We also tried the "Walnut Custard Caramel," the most popular item on the menu. I love the bitterness of burnt caramel, so I had high hopes for the caramel flavor. However, it turned out to be too sweet. The caramel sauce was overly sweet with little bitterness. The whipped cream was light and tasty, but the overwhelming sweetness from the caramel sauce made it cloying. The walnut custard underneath was also too sweet, drowning out the walnut flavor. It would have been better if the sweetness was toned down. The presentation of the whipped cream on top of the hotcakes caused them to flatten, so it might be better served on the side.
In conclusion, the unique cafe with hammock chairs can sometimes be overwhelming for those who are not fans of anime, as they often hold anime events. The Souffle Hotcakes were delicious, with a unique texture that was not too sweet. They were a delightful mix between madeleines and souffle pancakes. The whipped cream was light and perfect. However, the toppings, like the one I tried (Walnut Custard Caramel), were all too sweet, so I recommend going for the "Plain" option here!
