This is located in front of Yasaka Shrine in Kyoto. I love fresh fu but it's hard to find in my local area... I chose three for 1000 yen, with plum paste, pickled mustard greens, and wasabi. Sweet and spicy. I enjoyed them alternately! It feels like a difficult location... narrow sidewalks, and a wait due to the careful preparation. I took them to the base of Shijo Ohashi and enjoyed them while looking at the Kamogawa River! It would be better if it were in a more accessible location for purchasing.

Sweet Shop 725th♡ I always noticed this place because there was always a line, but this time when I passed by, there was no line♡♡ I had to buy something♡♡♡ - Fried Fuwa Arare (rice cracker) 350 yen - Purple Sweet Potato Paste 350 yen - Bacon Roll 350 yen - Matcha Paste 350 yen - Fried Chicken 400 yen They cook it after you order, so it takes some time. In the meantime, let's eat some fried chicken♡♡ I tried the Fried Fuwa Arare♡♡ It had a cute appearance ( ♥︎ᴗ♥︎ )♡♡ The fresh fuwa (wheat gluten) was chewy and delicious♡♡♡ It was so tastyヾ(*´▽`*)ノ♡ They have various types and they are all cute♡♡ Next time, I want to try something different♡♡ The staff were friendly and approachable.

I wanted to try what seitan was like. The storefront was narrow, and I had to dodge people on the sidewalk while waiting in line. When it was my turn, there were so many options that I still hadn't decided... I ended up ordering on a whim. Hmm, so this is what it's like.

【Kyoto Food Walk】Located in front of Yasaka Shrine, Gion Kyoto Kurara is a must-visit for me as a big fan of nama-fu (raw wheat gluten). The restaurant is quite small and located near the intersection in front of Yasaka Shrine, so it's a mix of waiting for the traffic light and waiting in line at the restaurant. Just looking at the menu is a feast for the eyes with its cute and small bite-sized items. Each bite-sized item costs 350 yen, which may not seem cute when compared to a cup of fried chicken for 400 yen. I chose the classic tango and the sweet bean and mugwort flavors. Then, my child ordered the "aesthetic" ramune flavor. I don't really care about aesthetics, I just want to eat what I like! The tango and sweet bean and mugwort flavors were delicious. The texture was irresistibly soft and chewy. Nama-fu is usually associated with simmered dishes or tango, but it works well as a dessert. The ramune flavor, which I didn't get to taste, apparently tasted like ramune. It was a fun and enjoyable meal. Thank you for the delicious food.

In December 2022, I went out for a meal in Kyoto. I had plenty of time before dinner, so I strolled around the Gion area. Many shops were closed due to the year-end, but I took a break at "Gion Hitsuji Cafe" on Gion Rakuen Koji and then visited Yasaka Shrine. After the visit, I peeked into "Gion Kyoto Kurara," a specialty shop for Kyoto-style wheat gluten, located across from Yasaka Shrine. They had a variety of stylish Kyoto-style wheat gluten dishes, so even though it was before dinner, I decided to try a few. The lineup included fried wheat gluten puffs, white miso, red miso, wasabi seaweed grill, bacon roll, sweet bean paste with mugwort, coarse bean paste, yuzu bean paste, matcha bean paste, hojicha bean paste, cheese wheat gluten cutlet, purple sweet potato bean paste, chestnut sweet bean paste, black sesame bean paste. I chose the following three items: Kyoto-style wheat gluten (3 pieces for 1000 yen), fried wheat gluten puffs, and white miso. After a short wait, I received the Kyoto-style wheat gluten and enjoyed it in front of the shop. The presentation was enjoyable, and the combination of each ingredient with the Kyoto-style wheat gluten was excellent, making it delicious. Personally, I highly recommend the fried wheat gluten puffs. Thank you for the meal!

Before enjoying the yakiniku reservation at 5:00 p.m. in Gion on December 30, 2022, I arrived early in Kyoto and now I'm fully committed to my foodie activities on Tabelog~♪ First, inside Gion Rakuen Koji, I had "zenzai" at "Gion Hitsuji Cafe," then visited Yasaka Shrine before stopping by "Gion Kyoto Kurara," a shop specializing in Kyoto-style fu (wheat gluten) that opened in front of Yasaka Shrine in March 2019. Kyoto-style fu is a traditional food that has been used as an ingredient in shojin cuisine since the end of the Kamakura period, and has a history of being consumed as a valuable source of protein for Zen monks who were prohibited from eating meat. I got takeout from the shop, which included 3 sticks of Kyoto-style fu for 1000 yen, with fried bubu arare, amaou strawberries, tsubuan, and yomogi dango. The fried bubu arare is a mix of 5 colored small arare grains sprinkled on fu and fried in oil, giving it a crispy texture with a light seasoning. The amaou strawberry anko on top of the fu was beautifully presented in pink, with a slightly sticky and rich sweetness. As a lover of anko, my favorite was the tsubuan yomogi, where the green fu mixed with yomogi perfectly complemented the sweet tsubuan. I also stopped by another place for yakiniku, and then bought some light late-night snacks to enjoy back in Osaka. Bon appétit! (●^o^●)

In front of Yasaka-san's shop, there is a shop where you can only eat while walking. The item that caught my attention was the Gion specialty Aburi Fu (toasted wheat gluten) 4 pieces for 350 yen. It took some time to toast them, so I received a number tag and waited for about 5 minutes. As the name suggests, it is toasted wheat gluten. It was a very light and perfect snack that does not affect later lunch or dinner. Thank you for the meal.

I visited Yoshimoto Gion Kagetsu and decided to stop because they had a variety of fresh fu (wheat gluten). I ordered the Cheese Kushi-katsu style with fresh fu for ¥350, and it was delicious! The fresh fu was soft with a nice chewy texture, and I felt it was healthy. While waiting for it to be fried, the staff shared their struggles during the pandemic, and I wished them the best. The taste was very satisfying, but I wish the cost performance was a bit better.

[Order] Set of 3 Fucukurage (white miso, red miso, chestnut sweet potato) [Impression] I ordered Fucukurage from a specialty shop in front of Maruyama Park. They had over ten varieties ranging from classic miso flavor to unique ones like chocolate mint. I felt that the miso could have been a bit sweeter.

In front of Yasaka Shrine, there is a specialty store that sells fresh fu (wheat gluten). I thought the 3-color chocolate fondue with fresh fu and chocolate might not match, but it wasn't bad (laughs). Personally, I preferred the trial version that was like grilled mochi. The staff at the store were very kind and grilled the fresh fu while chatting with us to make the fondue.
