Sweets Hyakumeiten TOKYO 20/100 Tokyu Toyoko Line, Todoroki University Station Since its establishment in Showa 40, this shop has been constantly crowded with customers seeking the specialty "Yakumo Mochi". The storefront is simple yet with a focus on authenticity. Over the years, it has gained a sense of dignity. Beautiful peach flowers are arranged at the entrance, reflecting the season. Arriving at 11:20 on a weekday, there were about 10 people waiting in line. Inside the shop, three staff members quickly served customers purchasing Yakumo Mochi and Sakura Mochi, so despite the number of people in line, it moved quickly and I was able to leave the shop in about 30 minutes. The "Yakumo Mochi" costs 216 yen (tax included) and has a shelf life of 5 days, with shipping available. The ingredients for Yakumo Mochi include mochi flour, granulated sugar, black syrup, agar, meringue, and crushed cashew nuts mixed with a feeling of gratitude for everyone who enjoys it. When you gently open the bamboo leaf, you will find a soft and fluffy rice cake. The texture is incredibly soft and elastic, with the crushed cashew nuts adding a delightful accent. The richness of the black sugar enhances the aftertaste elegantly. This mochi is sure to be appreciated by anyone who receives it. It's no wonder that many people come from far away to enjoy this treat. Offering authentic Japanese sweets at a low price, I was also very satisfied with the seasonal sweets. I will definitely visit again. Thank you for the delicious treat. For more detailed information, please check out my blog. https://sweetspower.com/timoto/

If the food in this area isn't delicious, it's hard to stay in business for long. The sweets here are not flashy, but really delicious. They are elegant and the sweet bean paste is tasty. I also visited Chimotomo in Hakone, but I prefer this place. I go to Tokyo Metropolitan University every week, so it's a nice treat.

I had some business at Todai University and visited this shop. I heard about a list called "Wagashi Hyakumeiten" on Tabelog, so I decided to check it out. I tried their famous Yakumo Mochi and it was incredibly delicious. If I have the chance, I would definitely like to visit again to try other sweets!

Encounter with the unknown, Yagumo Mochi will change your perception of traditional Japanese sweets. Its unbelievably soft texture, the sweetness of black sugar, and the accent of cashew nuts all exceed expectations. It is conveniently located near the station, has a long shelf life (5 days), and is a must-try. Next time, I will try other Japanese sweets as well.

Along Meguro Street, just a short walk from Todaimae Station. However, it seems like you wouldn't know about it unless you were told. The atmosphere is lovely. And being able to buy individual traditional Japanese sweets is wonderful. This time, I bought kuzumanju and Yakumo mochi. Mmm, so happy. The mochi is incredibly soft. And delicious. You have to buy it here for this texture!

Established in 1965, "Chimoto" is a traditional confectionery shop with roots dating back to the Edo period. Originally located in Tokyo (Nishinippori, later moved to Ginza), it has since expanded to Hakone, Karuizawa, and Tokyo (this shop near Todai University Station). One of their famous treats is the "Yumochi," a soft white rice cake with sweet bean paste and a hint of yuzu flavor. In Karuizawa, they sell "Chimoto Mochi," while in Yagumo, they offer "Yagumo Mochi" with a modern twist, including black sugar and cashew nuts. Many people prefer this updated version. It's recommended to try both for comparison. The name "Chimoto" comes from the kabuki and puppet play "Yoshitsune Senbonzakura," with "Senbon" read as "Chimoto." The Yagumo Mochi is incredibly soft and fluffy, with a marshmallow-like texture. It melts in your mouth, with a mild sweetness from black sugar and a nutty aroma from crushed cashews. The Grass Dumplings are also popular, featuring a soft mochi with a smooth sweet bean paste and refreshing mugwort. The Water Yokan has a light and refreshing texture, best enjoyed chilled. Unfortunately, their dine-in options are currently closed, but hopefully, they will reopen soon. Overall, Yagumo's "Chimoto" is truly exceptional. Thank you for the delicious treats!

I visited this shop that I had been curious about for a while. The interior has a calm atmosphere with a sense of luxury. I was unsure of what to purchase, but as it was my first visit, I decided to buy the classic items - Yakumo Mochi, Takezuru, and Kusa Dango. They were all delicious, but I especially liked the Yakumo Mochi, which was soft with walnuts and had a comforting, nostalgic taste.

Chimoto-san, a sweets shop located along Meguro Street, a 3-minute walk from Todoroki University Station, had no customers when I arrived at 11:40 on a weekday. Due to the scorching heat of over 35 degrees in Tokyo, I didn't feel like going out at this time. The eat-in option was not available due to the COVID-19 situation. I purchased three pieces of Yagumo Mochi for 648 yen. Yagumo Mochi is a sweet made of black sugar and cashew nuts wrapped in bamboo leaves. It is recommended to chill it in the refrigerator before eating during the hot summer season. The mochi is soft and has a chewy texture with a nice bounce and elasticity. The combination of the rich sweetness of black sugar and the crunchy texture of cashew nuts blends well together. Yagumo Mochi from Chimoto-san can be purchased individually with a shelf life of 5 days. They come in simple gift boxes or bamboo baskets, making them easy to share as souvenirs. It was a delicious meal, thank you!

Visited this traditional Japanese confectionery shop on my day off. Located about a 2-minute walk from Tsurudaigaku Station, along Meguro Street, this shop has been popular since its establishment in 1965. Known for their high-quality Japanese sweets, they have been awarded as one of the top 100 sweets shops from 2017 to 2022. Due to the pandemic, their popular shaved ice dessert is temporarily unavailable, but they are still offering takeout for their traditional Japanese sweets. I visited around 1:30 pm on a Friday and was greeted by two regular customers chatting with the staff. After they left, I finally had my turn. I purchased three pieces of their signature Yagumo Mochi. The staff apologized for the wait, which was a nice touch. The next day, I tried the Yagumo Mochi. The delicate and soft mochi had a marshmallow-like texture and a rich flavor of black sugar and cashew nuts. The unique combination of Japanese and Western flavors was impressive, especially considering it was created over 50 years ago. It would pair well with a cup of strong tea. They mentioned it can last up to 5 days, making it a great gift option. I will definitely visit again when I'm in the area.

At Chimoto, a traditional Japanese confectionery shop in the University, I tried two items - Kusa Dango and Hana no Tsuyu. Both were in cute sizes and I was happy with that. First, I tried the Kusa Dango and was pleasantly surprised by how delicious the sweet bean paste was. The balance between the paste and the dumpling was amazing. The Hana no Tsuyu had a beautiful appearance and a delicate, elegant sweetness. It melted in my mouth like the perfect Japanese confectionery. Even as a beginner in Japanese sweets, I could tell that these were of high quality. I realized that I need to study more about the world of Japanese confectionery. Chimoto is also famous for shaved ice and Yakumo Mochi, so I definitely want to try them next time!

Visited at 11:00 on Sunday. Since the Toyo University Station only stops local trains, I transferred from the express train at Gakugeidaigaku Station. Today, I bought 10 Yagumo mochi as a souvenir to bring to my parents' house after watching baseball at Yokohama Stadium. It cost 2,160 yen. Each mochi was wrapped in a bamboo leaf, giving off a nice aroma. The mochi itself was very soft and melted in the mouth. It had a strong sweetness and also contained cashew nuts. The whole family enjoyed it, especially the kids.

A traditional Japanese confectionery shop near Todoroki Daigaku Station. The shop has a charming appearance that exudes a sense of nostalgia. While they offer seating, it is currently on hold and they are focusing on takeout orders. They offer a variety of traditional Japanese sweets. The most popular item is the Yagumo Mochi, a mochi wrapped in bamboo leaves. It combines cashew nuts and black sugar, offering a jelly-like yet fluffy texture. The shelf life of this treat is surprisingly long, making it a convenient choice for gifts. If you're in the area of Todoroki Daigaku, it's worth stopping by this traditional Japanese confectionery shop. Thank you for the meal.

After stopping by Maison Romi Uni and heading towards the Todoroki University Station, I realized I had walked on this road before when I visited Adict Oshkurl and Chimoto. I remembered I had left some homework unfinished at Chimoto, so I decided to stop by. One of the homework assignments was to try shaved ice, but since it's not the right season for it, I had another assignment left - to buy Yakumo Mochi. Luckily, there was still some available in the store with a short wait of 2-3 groups. I bought a box of Yakumo Mochi (8 pieces for ¥2,417), which is a soft rice cake confection mixed with black sugar and cashew nuts. It has a distinct softness compared to another walnut rice cake I have tried before. The contrast between the soft mochi and the cashew nuts is clear. It is relatively sweet, so it would pair well with a strong green tea. Finally, I was able to complete a long overdue assignment.

I usually prefer Western sweets, so I don't buy much Japanese sweets. But today is Children's Day, and I felt like having some yomogi (Japanese mugwort) sweets. I was looking for yomogi dango with smooth red bean paste and a moderate size. Although I usually like other products from Chimoto, today I tried their "Yomogi Masshigura" dango and I was very satisfied. Each dango is generously filled with red bean paste. Having two dango on one skewer makes it easy to eat. Personally, I wish the yomogi flavor was a bit stronger, but overall, it was delicious.

On a holiday around 1pm, there were about 3 groups waiting in line at the register, and the store was not very spacious, so it felt a bit cramped. I bought the "Yakumo Mochi" (1 piece for 216 yen), which is a sweet rice cake with black sugar kneaded in and cashew nuts mixed in (I forgot to take a picture of the inside). It has a slightly softer and chewier texture than regular daifuku, and the elegant sweetness of the black sugar is very nice. The cashew nuts add a good accent, and there is no overwhelming sweetness throughout. The other Japanese sweets also looked very delicious, so I would like to come back again.

I entered the restaurant around 12 o'clock on Friday afternoon. There were two customers inside. I couldn't decide what to order, but when it was my turn, I ordered Yagumo Mochi for 200 yen and Kusa Dango for 170 yen to take out. I ate them at a nearby park, and the Yagumo Mochi was incredibly delicious! The Kusa Dango had sweet red bean paste and really helped me relax after walking. They were both so delicious, and I was impressed that I could eat them at this price. Thank you for the meal! I will definitely go back again. ^ ^
