The stew is exquisite! It has a complex yet soft aftertaste, as the owner apparently uses fresh cream or milk to make it mellow. The eggplant ohitashi and the stir-fried beef tendons with kujo green onions also have a delightful flavor. I also want to try the mackerel curry available only for lunch on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

Sansho Keyma Hamo Katsu Tartar Curry ¥1000 This curry has a unique numbing sensation from the Japanese pepper, followed by a lingering spicy kick from the spices. When eaten with the hamo katsu and tartar sauce, it creates a mild flavor in the mouth, making you crave for more curry. At first, I was skeptical about "curry with tartar sauce," but thanks to the tartar, it remains delicious until the last bite.

It had been a while since my friend took me here, but I finally visited after the renovation. The atmosphere from the entrance to the interior was fantastic, the staff were lovely, and the food and drinks were delicious. It's a place I want to keep coming back to. It's easy for a woman to enter alone and relax.

A few minutes' walk from Kyoto Sanjo Station is a curry restaurant renovated from an old folk house. As soon as you enter the store, the smell of curry and dashi is irresistible. They offer three types of curry, and you can mix and match them. I ordered the Spicy Mabo Pork Keema Curry. It was quite spicy but at a good level of heat. With cilantro on top, it almost feels like you're eating Thai curry. The rice is a blend of Japanese rice and Thai rice, giving it a refreshing taste that goes well with the curry. In addition to this, they also have Mackerel Curry which is flavorful with the essence of dashi and mackerel, and Chicken and Mushroom Curry which has a completely different taste and is also delicious. For first-time visitors, I recommend trying the mix and match option of all three curries.

This is a izakaya located in a back alley. It might be a bit hard to find. When you enter, you'll see a large counter. The food is very delicious. The highlight is definitely the finale. They started serving curry for lunch and it was so popular that they now offer it at night too. Their stew is famous so you can't go wrong. I ordered the mackerel curry. It has a strong punch. I asked for less rice but it didn't make much of a difference. The mackerel is big so you'll get full. It's recommended to go with someone you can charm here.

Saba curry and chicken curry combo for 1,200 yen (tax included). The curry sauce is rich in spices with a good aroma, a hint of spiciness, and plenty of umami. The saba (mackerel) pieces are quite large, and the chicken is generously included, providing a satisfying meal. The portion of rice was just right. The unique side dishes added a nice touch of acidity and texture to the meal.

On 12/22/2016, I arrived at the restaurant around 10:45 due to a delay caused by a fire accident on the Shinkansen between Yokohama and Odawara. I had Shimisaba, tuna sashimi, and simmered eggplant. I enjoyed them with a glass of Daiginjo Matsumoto sake. It was delicious.

On September 13, 2017, I tried 'that stew' at the izakaya "Zorome" in Kawabata Sanjo! Store Information: Store Name: Zorome Location: 31-7 Mago Bridge Street, Kawabata, Gion, Kyoto, Kyoto Access: 3 minutes walk from Sanjo Keihan Phone Number: 075-752-2825 Closed: Mondays Website: https://tabelog.com/kyoto/A2601/A260301/26007603/ Review: Taste: [4] The skills of the chef, who comes from a famous restaurant, are undeniable! Atmosphere: [4] The hidden gem vibe is really nice! Price: [3] The cost performance is not bad! Service: [3] The chef seems busy as he handles everything alone. Location: [4] Great access, only a 3-minute walk from Sanjo Keihan! Recommendations: - The appetizer was delicious, setting high expectations. - Assorted sashimi was fresh and delightful. - The potato salad with smoked salmon was a unique twist. - The fried hamo fish was a favorite. - The pork shabu-shabu tofu salad was tender and flavorful. - The stew, known as 'that stew,' was a must-try. - The grilled conger eel was also delicious. Overall, Zorome offers a wide range of Japanese cuisine, from seafood to grilled dishes, with each dish being a hit. The restaurant has a refined atmosphere and is a hidden gem in the Kawabata Sanjo area.

I visited the restaurant during Golden Week night. Since it was late at night, there were few places serving food, but they welcomed me. Many menu items did not have prices listed, but when I asked, they told me promptly and it was within my expectations, so I felt relieved. I thought it might be a bit expensive, but the portion was larger than I expected, and although there were not many dishes, I was satisfied. I would like to visit this restaurant again next time I go to Kyoto.

(February 2010 revisit) On February 22nd, which is a palindrome date, there are various special offers available! Drinks are all priced at 222 yen, the bill is 22% off, and there are 22 yen side dishes available. It's so lucky to be able to visit on a day like this! Since we are sharing dishes between two people, sometimes the service can be a bit slow, but let's be patient. Some new delicious dishes I enjoyed this time were: - Beef tendon and leek rice with ankake sauce: The rice absorbs the flavor of the beef tendon well, and the crispy rice is just perfect. It's really delicious and warms you up. - Tender chicken and green onion salt tataki: This dish is amazing! The balance between the seared surface and rare inside is perfect. The richness of the meat is outstanding. It's a must-try! The stew is also excellent, and there is a variety of bread available for unlimited refills. There are other special service days as well, so keep an eye out for those. (January 2009 initial visit) Zorome opened in September 2008, retaining the good aspects of the original Ushinohone main store. The exterior doesn't give away the presence of the restaurant at first glance. Once you enter, you'll find the same calm atmosphere as the original store. The seating is limited, but the space feels open. The menu features the famous Ushinohone stew and a variety of izakaya dishes, with beef tendon dishes being a highlight. I tried the beef tendon and leek stir-fry, beef tendon skewers with yuzu miso and green onions, beef tendon and tripe with shichimi ponzu, cloud eggs with ponzu, Ushinohone stew, tataki chicken cartilage skewers, duck shabu with green onions and sesame sauce, Inaniwa udon, and assorted oden. I ate a lot, and everything was delicious. The standout dishes for me were: - Tataki chicken cartilage skewers: Crispy on the outside, juicy and well-seasoned on the inside. - Inaniwa udon (cold): Thin noodles with great texture, perfect for a refreshing finish. - Duck shabu with green onions and sesame sauce: The duck is tender and flavorful, reminiscent of eating delicious beef. A definite favorite. The prices for alcohol are slightly higher, but it's not a significant difference. The restaurant is not yet extremely popular, but I hope it remains a hidden gem.

It's a hidden gem near three train stations that you might easily pass by. I wasn't very hungry, so I just had a light meal. I heard the beef tendon is popular, so I tried the beef tendon konjac and it was indeed delicious! The sashimi was also tasty, and the thin udon noodles I had as a finisher were also delicious. I was curious about the stew, but I wasn't very hungry so I didn't order it. I would like to try it if I have the chance. Highly recommended!

About 20 meters south of Kawaramachi Gojo, there is a faint, gentle light. Upon closer inspection, the lantern reads "Zorome" (finally found it!). As mentioned in other reviews, the kanji is a bit hard to read. Next to the lantern, there is a narrow alley leading east from Kawaramachi Street, giving a true sense of a hidden gem. Upon sliding open the creaking door, you enter a homey entrance space, followed by a cozy raised tatami room. The retro atmosphere and small yet comfortable space left a good impression. The recommended dish was the beef tendon, so I tried the beef tendon croquette (650 yen) and the spicy beef tendon and konjac stew (650 yen). Both were delicious, especially the beef tendon and konjac stew. The spicy tendon meat and red konjac, soaked in flavor, paired perfectly with alcohol. The dull crimson of the red konjac really whets the appetite. The drink menu includes beer, shochu, chuhai, and fruit liquor, but wait, where's the sake? I was relieved to find it listed separately in a booklet along with wine. I started with a glass and later switched to a tokkuri with the following four types: Shiraoi Karakara Eikun Honjozo Miyamashu Gingetsu Kokuryu. The waitress seemed to be a newbie as she often replied, "I don't know, let me check," but she was cute and friendly. Watching her made me feel sentimental, wishing I had more charm too. I got a bit tipsy. I ordered a salad, fried chicken, and various dishes, eventually ending with stingray fin and pickles while sipping slowly, totaling 4200 yen for one person after about 4 hours. Great cost performance. By the way, the "nodokuro" (blackthroat seaperch) from the neighboring group looked really delicious...

Visited a restaurant with colleagues after work. We ordered a course menu, and enjoyed dishes like tuna sashimi and grilled fish as appetizers. The main course included grilled fish and chawanmushi, perfect for a party. The finale was clam rice porridge, which was delicious but a bit hard to eat due to the large clams. The atmosphere was like a small Kyoto-style restaurant. It was a bit disappointing that they didn't have wine, as a cold dry white wine would have paired well with the dishes. I came from Tokyo that day and had trouble finding the restaurant, even after circling the area. In the end, my colleagues had to come out to guide me. It would have been helpful to have a clearer sign to locate the restaurant.

I had always been curious about this place but never had the courage to go in. However, I finally decided to try it because I was craving beef tendon! The interior of the restaurant had a warm atmosphere with white incandescent light bulbs. I sat at the counter, started with some appetizers and a beer. The appetizers were surprisingly good, which raised my expectations. And now, for the main dish of the day - beef tendon and daikon radish stew. It was light and delicious! The daikon radish had a satisfying texture. This was definitely a hit. I would love to come back in the winter and try it with hot sake. The owner was busy taking care of regular customers, so I couldn't chat with them, which was a bit disappointing. This is a place I definitely want to visit again.
