Asakusa Hangetsudo is the shop that can be said to have sparked the melon pan boom in Asakusa. Starting to sell melon pan in Asakusa, word of mouth spread through reviews, and before you knew it, it became a hugely popular shop with long lines! Nowadays, many people upload photos on social media, and it is even featured in guidebooks for foreigners. The biggest feature of Hangetsudo's melon pan is that you can enjoy it freshly baked. The unique aroma and fluffy crispy texture that can only be experienced when it's freshly baked! In addition to being freshly baked, the secret to this unique dough texture is fermentation. The owner of Hangetsudo specialized in fermentation studies at university, and later worked as a researcher at a flour company. After about 10 years... Using the knowledge gained there, they completed the "Jumbo Melon Pan". So, it seems that a lot of effort goes into making the Jumbo Melon Pan until it is baked. The manufacturing process is slightly adjusted every day depending on the season, temperature, humidity, weather, and the condition of the flour. This is something that can also be said for hand-made, homemade noodles at soba, udon, ramen, and pasta shops. So in that sense, I personally prefer noodle shops that make their own noodles or hand-make them. When ordering noodles by phone or fax, the artisans don't have to go through such trouble. What I received at Asakusa Hangetsudo was Ice Melon Pan. By the way, Ice Melon Pan is not sold in cold weather. It is a seasonal limited product sold when it gets warmer, a melon pan with cold ice cream inside. A warm fluffy crispy bread with cold ice cream! If we were to compare it to noodles, it would be like cold noodles? When you take a bite, it's crispy and creamy in your mouth. The cold temperature mixes in, it's amazing! Towards the end, the ice cream seeps into the bread, adding a different deliciousness. This is seriously delicious! It goes far beyond the realm of melon pan! I felt that this is the real deal, not just a trend. As expected, enjoying it on the spot while feeling the atmosphere and savoring the freshly baked taste is the best! Thank you for the meal.

When I decided to go on a sweets tasting tour, I did some research taking into account the opinions of my followers. I also looked into melon pan, as there was a request for it. In the Asakusa area near Sensoji Temple, there are places like Hangetsudo, Asakusa Sakura, and Aliteria. I headed to Asakusa Sakura first, known for its crispy exterior and fluffy interior, but they were sold out as it was past 4 pm. Next, I went to Hangetsudo, where the melon pan was fluffy and easily crushed when torn. It was warm and they also had some for takeout that were already cooled. The fluffy texture made it easy to eat, but since I was on a tasting tour, I was satisfied with just half of it!

It's been a while since I had it, and it's still delicious. I think it's been a few years since I last had one. It was a cloudy morning after the rain, so I chose the jumbo melon bread. But as I was eating, the sun came out and it got hot, so I thought I should have gone for the ice cream instead. The fluffy and crispy texture never gets old.

Melon Pan Shop Melon Pan 280 yen. The size is large, and at first it may seem like a lot, but it's fluffy and light, so it's easy to finish quickly. The taste is just right sweetness and delicious. Probably one of the best melon pans I've had. You can choose between freshly baked or slightly cooled ones.

It's no exaggeration to say that I came to Asakusa because I wanted to eat this! Jumbo Melon Pan♪ You can enjoy it warm (〃'▽'〃) Everyone is standing around the shop eating it! Fluffy♪ Crispy♪ It's really my favorite melon pan! Although it looks big, it's fluffy, light, and not too sweet, so you can eat it in one goΨ( 'ω'* ) Next time, I want to buy a few for takeout and eat them at home♪ I'll definitely come back (*^^*)

I went during opening hours and there were about 5 groups in line! It's definitely a popular shop. I tried both the regular melon pan and the melon pan with ice cream (vanilla). Both were delicious, but personally I preferred the regular melon pan as it was tasty and easy to eat! The ice cream version was more expensive. It's a well-known shop and easy to find at the corner of the arcade, so be sure to check it out!

I went to a bakery in Asakusa on Monday morning. There was no line today. I bought a plain melon pan. It was easy to eat without the typical sugar coating, and it had a soft texture that I like. It didn't have a melon scent, but it was still delicious. It was a hot day, and I saw some people around the bakery eating "Ice Melon Pan" with ice cream inside. Melon pan seems to be becoming a popular snack for tourists in Asakusa. Thank you for the meal.

I was impressed by the deliciousness of melon bread I had before, so I revisited! I chose the ice cream-filled melon bread both times, and I think this is the way to go. I can understand why some people might prefer the regular one, but for me, the combination of hot melon bread and cold ice cream is the best. The melon bread here is not only big but also crispy on the outside and fluffy inside, super delicious! However, it seemed like the taste had dropped compared to when I first tried it. Maybe it's just my imagination or the initial excitement was missing. By the way, I had it at the Asakusa store the first time and at the main store the second time. I think the taste is the same, but there might be various factors affecting it. Either way, it's definitely delicious! I haven't tried the regular one, but I highly recommend the ice cream-filled melon bread. Please try it out! Thank you for the meal ꕤ︎︎·͜·

I purchased a matcha ice cream melon bread and started eating it right away since it's a city for foodies and the ice cream melts quickly. The melon bread was freshly baked and hot! The combination of ice cream and melon bread was really delicious.

The prices were a bit higher than the reviews here. I went with high expectations because it was said to be quite delicious, but... it was just okay. It was big and that was nice, but the taste was quite bland so it got boring after a while. The sugar coating was crispy and tasty, but the inside had a lot of air... Lately, even convenience stores have melonpan with various creams and chocolates inside that are delicious, so when compared to that, it just feels too ordinary. Maybe my evaluation would have changed if I had eaten melonpan on the spot?

I went to the main store in Asakusa. It was the most delicious melon pan I have ever eaten. The outside was crispy and light. At the main store, they also have melon pans with ice cream, which are perfect for hot weather. There were many people lining up, but I was able to buy it quickly.

When asked about Asakusa, I heard about melon pan from an acquaintance and decided to stop by. There were many young people, and I saw a lot of people taking pictures around the shop. The melon pan was crispy and fluffy when I ate it! It was not too sweet, just the right amount of sweetness, and easy to eat with a crispy texture, unlike regular melon pan.

A melon bread shop that has been featured on TV! The melon bread is about the size of a face, with a fluffy interior and crispy exterior, just the right amount of sweetness, and can easily be eaten by one person. For those who enjoy food adventures, sharing one with a friend is enough! They have seasonal limited editions, but when you see the fluffy melon bread in front of you, you'll want the regular one! They also offer takeout options, and some people buy both to eat on the spot and to take home. There is a picturesque photo spot on the wall next to the shop, so be sure to take some photos there too!

I am looking for gourmet takeaway options to boost my motivation for jogging. Jogging distance to destination: 7km Visit time: 11:15 Number of people in line: 1 group Waiting time: 0 Today, I felt like having something sweet, so I decided to visit this place where the melon bread had received many good reviews. It is located close to Sensoji Temple and there was no line. They sell melon bread and melon bread with ice cream sandwiched in between. This time, I bought the Jumbo Melon Pan for 280 yen. It was a delicious melon bread with a crispy and fluffy texture and a gentle sweetness. Thank you for the meal!

Nakamise Street stretches from Asakusa Kaminarimon Gate to Asakusa Temple. As you make your way to the temple, if you turn left midway, you'll find a quiet street with a line of people waiting. There's a signboard with photos of celebrities lined up in front. The line is long, but as expected from a bakery, the turnover is fast! It's soon my turn. There's also a melon pan with ice cream sandwiched inside, but this time I ordered a regular melon pan. The size is surprising! It's huge! But it's incredibly light! What's going on? The smell of melon pan is evident from the moment you receive it. Oh, it's irresistible! I was told to go inside by the staff. Apparently, eating while standing is not allowed now. It's a bit disappointing because not long ago, many people were walking around eating Hangetsu-do's melon pan. The interior of the shop has a Showa retro vibe. It feels like they'll be playing songs by The Checkers or Seiko Matsuda. I sat down in the tatami room and couldn't resist taking a bite right away. The outside is crispy, the inside is fluffy, and it's slightly sweet. The dough is very moist. Melon pan often gives the impression of having a sticky outer layer, but this one has a firm, crispy texture like a cookie! And the subtle sweetness is just irresistible! This is a taste that makes you want to come back for more! This is the must-try in Asakusa!

Near Asakusa Temple, there is a melon pan shop that offers simple melon pan as well as a recommended ice cream-filled melon pan. The matcha ice cream melon pan (650 yen) is particularly worth trying. The melon pan is huge and has a satisfying volume. It is crispy and fluffy, making it delicious. This snack is highly satisfying and recommended for those looking for a light meal. Thank you for the meal.

We visited this melon bread shop around 15:00 with two people. This place, "Asakusa Tabearuki", always comes up when you search for melon bread, so I was really curious. We tried the Jumbo Melon Bread for 280 yen each. The outside was crispy, the inside was fluffy, and it was incredibly delicious (*´ч`*) It was even tastier than I imagined, so I ended up eating three of them... I will definitely have it again next time I go to Asakusa! Thank you for the meal. ๑⃙⃘´༥`๑⃙⃘

First time trying the Melon Pan from Kagetsudo!! It was so fluffy and crispy, and really delicious. We splurged on the ice cream sandwich, and one was enough for two people - we were completely satisfied and full! I wish I lived closer so I could buy more to take home...!! This Melon Pan is a must-have whenever I go to Asakusa.

After several years, I visited Hangetsudo during the GW holidays after the end of the coronavirus pandemic. There was a long line that extended back around the corner on a weekday. Before the coronavirus, I feel like I could just casually go and buy it on a weekday. I'm not a big fan of melon bread because often the inside doesn't taste like much, but I like the ones here. The surface is crispy, and it's so fluffy that it squishes when you hold it. It's not too sweet, light, and I can eat it quickly. It seems like you can freeze them, so I bought a pack of 5 to freeze, which might be a good idea.

The store opens at 10:00, but I visited on Sunday around 10:05 and there were already over 10 people lined up, showing that it is a popular shop. However, the line moved quickly, and I was able to make a purchase in about five minutes. I stood and ate on the spot (next to the store) and the melon pan was still warm and delicious - crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside! It was light and tasty, with surprisingly less sweetness. Unlike other melon pans that are often sugary, this one focuses on the dough. It was very easy to eat, so even though it was about 1.5 times larger than a regular melon pan, I finished it in no time! If I come to Asakusa again, I wouldn't mind stopping by to eat this.
