I made a reservation at 11 o'clock and waited for about 10 minutes before entering. The small space had a special atmosphere and a very nice ambiance, but the seat near the entrance was a bit unsettled as the staff kept coming in and out. The freshly made salted onigiri (Japanese rice balls) with wagyu beef yakiniku and plum shiso, along with the chicken meatball soup, were very delicious. While there are many takeout onigiri specialty shops, it's rare to find a place where you can enjoy freshly made onigiri in-store, making this place worth a visit. However, the smell inside (like a pet shop) was a disappointing point. I tried to enjoy the food without breathing through my nose as much as possible.

I was surprised by the small size of the shop, but I was able to enjoy my meal slowly. I ordered the tuna and mentaiko cream cheese onigiri, but I thought a simpler onigiri would go better with the pickles and miso soup. The miso soup with meatballs was also delicious. The staff was very polite.

The restaurant opens at 9 am and serves onigiri with customizable fillings and comes with a warm miso soup. The white rice is delicious. However, the choice of fillings was not great and took away from the deliciousness of the white rice. I recommend sticking to simple fillings.

I had lunch at Kyoto Giin Omusubi-ya Sankaku, located diagonally across from Yasaka Shrine in Gion, Kyoto. This popular restaurant prioritizes reservations during lunchtime. Even on weekdays, customers without reservations were informed that they would be seated one hour after arrival. They only serve up to 30 people per day, so reservations are essential on weekends. Since the onigiri are made to order, it is smooth to place a phone order for takeout.
I ordered the One Soup Onigiri Set, which includes a hearty miso soup and two onigiri of your choice. I had a hard time choosing, so I added an extra onigiri. I chose pickled tuna, miso pork, and salmon onigiri. The large onigiri is made with Kyoto-grown rice cooked in a kettle. It has a nice aroma of freshly cooked rice. The sweetness of the rice complements the richly seasoned fillings. The miso soup has a hint of sweetness with Kyoto green onions as an accent. It is a satisfying meal on its own. They open at 9 am, making it convenient for takeout as well.

Last December, a specialty rice ball shop opened near Gion Yasaka Shrine in Kyoto, and it has already become a hot topic. The shop uses Kyoto-grown rice to create a variety of rice balls. The company behind this shop also operates LITT UP KYOTO, which became popular on social media for its colorful toasts, sweets, and drinks. The menu at this rice ball shop includes a set called "One Soup Rice Ball Set" for 1000 yen, which comes with 2 rice balls and today's soup. The rice balls are hand-shaped without using a mold, cooked in a clay pot, and have a satisfying volume. They are soft and crumble in your mouth, making you appreciate being Japanese. The shop only has 4 counter seats, so it's better to make a reservation!

I visited a sushi shop that caught my eye on VOOM and decided to try their takeout. Due to some issues, I couldn't eat in, so I ordered a classic filling to go. They told me it would take some time, so I wandered around the area. After about 15 minutes, they called me to pick up my order. I purposely let it cool down before eating to see how it tasted. I spent 2-3 hours shopping before returning home and eating it completely cooled down. The rice was good, but I prefer a firmer and tighter grip. Just like with sushi or fried rice, if it doesn't hold together well when you eat it, the texture becomes unpleasant. Maybe it would have been better if it was still warm, but once it cools down, the flaws start to show. The rice became mushy and sticky, which was a bit disappointing. However, since the shop just opened, I have high hopes for improvement and I look forward to trying their dine-in option next time.

■ A rice ball specialty store open from 9:00 in the morning. They offer a variety of onigiri made with Kyoto-grown rice, as well as lunch sets that come with hearty miso soup. ■ One Soup Rice Ball Set 1,050 yen - Comes with 2 rice balls of your choice, daily miso soup, and pickles. I chose the salmon rice ball as well as the spicy cod roe mayo for an additional 50 yen. The Kyoto-grown rice cooked in a clay pot has a nostalgic flavor with a hint of saltiness and perfect texture. The richness of the salmon paired with the spicy cod roe mayo allowed me to enjoy the contrasting flavors. The miso soup was a hearty pork soup with plenty of ingredients, including sliced leeks and grated ginger, perfect for warming up in the cold winter. The location near Yasaka Shrine is convenient, making it a great spot for breakfast, lunch, or a meal during your travels. ■ Store Information ・Access: Approximately 7 minutes on foot from Keihan Main Line "Gion Shijo Station", approximately 10 minutes on foot from Hankyu Kyoto Line "Kyoto Kawaramachi Station" ・Business Hours: 9:00-16:00 (Last order for eat-in at 15:00) ・Regular Holiday: Refer to Instagram ・Seating: Counter seats ・Parking: None (Coin parking available nearby) ・Cashless Payment: Available

This is a small shop in front of Yasaka Shrine. It's a bit of a challenge with people passing behind the counter. The staff are very friendly and the atmosphere is nice. The onigiri is delicious, made with fluffy rice. It's easy for travelers to visit this location, so I recommend it. The miso soup is also delicious with a rich umami flavor.

The onigiri was very delicious and wonderful! The miso soup set with onigiri was also very tasty, making it a great lunch in Gion. I would love to try all the varieties! The rice cooked in a clay pot is truly the best. I could really feel the essence of Kyoto.

This isn't worth 1,000 yen. It's not good enough to be considered acceptable.

One soup rice ball walking set for 1000 yen (mentaiko, kelp), plum rice ball for 250 yen. Situation: Visited around 12:25 on Sunday. Was told there would be a 30-40 minute wait inside, so opted for takeout. Received the order within 10 minutes. Taste: The rice was slightly sticky, more like mochi. The mentaiko seemed to be a pre-made tube product, generously placed on top but lacking inside. The plum was a mix of sourness and sweetness, while the kelp was consistently delicious. The soup seemed to be chicken broth, with a build-up of pepper at the bottom making it too spicy towards the end. Other notes: Cashless payment not available, napkins provided, availability of restroom unclear, seat reservations possible over the phone.

Today I found out that it's quite difficult to get in for lunch. Takeout is fine, but do you need a reservation for lunch?
[Wiener]
[Presentation] Wiener, mayonnaise
[Service Time] 9 minutes
The wiener is lightly fried, so the saltiness is mild. The fragrant wiener is flavorful and delicious. It's nice that you can choose whether to add mayonnaise or not. Excellent.
[Salted Rice Ball]
The rice is softly packed and the saltiness is just right. The coarse salt enhances the deliciousness as expected! Chewing the salt was also good! It was delicious. The salmon and plum also look delicious.

There were a few groups waiting to eat at the restaurant, but since I ordered takeout, I waited outside for a bit. I had salted chicken, salmon, and pickled mustard seed with cod roe onigiri. I ate the salted chicken and salmon onigiri myself, and my wife loved the onigiri, saying it was really delicious! The saltiness, the flavor of the rice, the softness, and the size were all to her liking. I would love to try it again, if there's no line.

[Green Onion Cod Roe Onigiri]
[Ingredients] Cod roe, chopped green onions
[Service Time] 5 minutes
The cod roe was average, and I felt there were not enough green onions. The base of rice, seaweed, and salt was perfect! First, the rice was softly packed, the seaweed had a rich flavor. The salt seasoning was coarse and just right, giving a nice crunch. A simple salt onigiri would be amazing!
