Located just down the hill from Kiyomizu-dera Temple, this restaurant specializes in beef cutlets. The first floor is small, so sitting at the counter may be more relaxing. You can order two types of beef cutlets here. You get your own hot plate to cook them to your liking, and they come with three types of sauce so you won't get tired of eating them! You can also get free refills of rice and cabbage, which is a great deal. Students with big appetites will leave here feeling very satisfied.

Located on the slope leading to Kiyomizu-dera, I decided to have lunch here. I ordered the sirloin and thick-cut tongue beef cutlets. They were served rare, and a hot plate was provided for additional grilling. The staff's attentive service was wonderful. The sirloin was tender and delicious. The tongue had a good chewy texture. By adding the restaurant on LINE, you could have unlimited refills of rice, cabbage, and red miso soup.

I went to Kyoto Katsugyu-san to enjoy their new menu "Choose your own beef cutlet" before anyone else. You can choose from cuts like #Hane-shita, #Rib roast, #Uchimomo, #Fillet, and #Tongue for your beef cutlet, each made with a single slice of raw meat. Please note that there is no menu available for tasting all five cuts. You can enjoy all cuts cooked medium rare with plenty of sauces to choose from for your own unique experience. While Japanese food is often associated with #sushi, #ramen, and #tempura, "GYUKATSU" is becoming a popular choice as well. It's changing the traditional concept of beef cutlets.

Near Kiyomizu-dera Temple, we used this restaurant on our way back from visiting the temple. The restaurant was bustling with customers during mealtime, but we were able to enter smoothly. Even before entering, the showcase of meat got us excited! When we sat down, we were surprised by the variety of dipping sauces available! As we eagerly anticipated, the indulgent set meal arrived in front of us. It was nice that they provided instructions on how to eat each dish. The meat was all exquisite. The tongue and fillet felt like they were melting in our mouths! Personally, I recommend the rock salt... This is definitely a restaurant that makes you want to visit again!

It can be eaten with various sauces. It was delicious with wasabi soy sauce. However, curry sauce and Kyoto-style sauce overpower the dish. The barley rice was a bit hard, which was disappointing.

When I took a bite of the curry, I was pleasantly surprised by the rich flavor. I never knew that curry with broth could be so delicious! It was a new discovery for me at this restaurant.

Before going to see the light-up at Kiyomizu-dera, I went with 10 relatives. The restaurant was small, but we managed to find seats at a table in the back. I tried the beef cutlet for the first time, and it was delicious, lighter than pork cutlet. The breading was thin, so it wasn't greasy. Even my elementary school daughter couldn't finish it all, so we shared and finished everything without leaving any leftovers.

I visited the restaurant on April 5, 2016 for lunch. It is located right across from the tourist bus parking lot when coming down from Kiyomizu Temple. I ordered the Black Wagyu Beef Cutlet Kyoto Tamazen for 2,678 yen and the Kyoto Beer Kolsch for 648 yen. The atmosphere is casual with many young staff members. There are both counter and table seating options. The food was served - the beef cutlet was rare inside and tasty, but there were inconsistencies in quality and honestly, I didn't find it worth the price. The service was also lacking. There seemed to be a specific way to eat the dish, but there was no explanation provided on which sauce was what flavor or how to eat it. There was a curry-flavored sauce available, so I just used that. The barley rice and cabbage are free for refills. It's a restaurant with potential, but I hope they can improve on their service, taste, and value.

I went to Kiyomizu Temple in Kyoto to see the autumn leaves, and on the way back down a long slope, I spotted a sparkling mountain of meat in a showcase. It was a pork cutlet specialty shop with great appeal! The shop didn't seem very spacious, but it was very clean and beautiful. It may be a new shop. I ordered the "Black Wagyu Pork Cutlet Set (large)" which came with cutlet, cabbage, miso soup, rice, and 5 types of sauce (soy sauce broth, sansho salt, beef cutlet sauce, wasabi, curry dipping sauce). The cutlet was thinly sliced, with various sauces provided. It was thin but slightly pink and tender. There were 5 types of sauce including wasabi, which I really liked. The curry dipping sauce in a bowl was unusual, tasting like the soup of curry udon. It was delicious, but I felt it overpowered the taste of the meat. I still prefer wasabi or salt with my meat. Thank you for the meal!

On the way to Kiyomizu-dera Temple, there is a specialty shop for beef cutlets called "Kiku no Kiyomizu-ten" located on the middle of Gojo-zaka. It used to be a liquor store called "Kiku no Kiyomizu" at the entrance of the tourist parking lot. The front of the shop has a glass display for the entrance and meat, while the rest is mostly brown wood. The white background with black text noren (curtain) and lanterns hanging on the roof are more noticeable than the signboard. The first floor of the shop has a counter and a large table, and there are seats on the second floor as well. I ordered the Oroshi Gyukatsu set. The beef cutlet is lightly fried on the surface and served rare, so the waiting time is very short. It came with plenty of grated daikon radish, which was served on the side of the cutlet, not on top. The cross-section of the meat was a beautiful pink color, which whets the appetite. The crispy and light coating combined with the chewy texture of the rare meat is irresistible. The sauce is delicious, but my favorite way to eat it is with wasabi and soy sauce, just like sashimi. This time, I also added more grated daikon on top, which complemented the dish perfectly, leaving a refreshing aftertaste.

I avoided the crowded Kiyomizu-dera during the 3-day weekend and visited it on a weekday to enjoy the autumn leaves. On the way up by taxi from Kawaramachi, I noticed this restaurant and decided to stop by on my way back from enjoying the fall foliage. Since I was getting tired of the typical Kyoto tofu dishes, I opted for something with meat to feel more satisfied. This new restaurant, which opened on October 15th, is located just a little below the bus parking lot on the left side after the end of the shopping street in front of Kiyomizu-dera. It was lunchtime, and although I had to share a table, I was lucky to get a seat right away. Shortly after, there was a line forming. When I first passed by in a taxi, I only saw the word "katsu" and thought it was a tonkatsu (pork cutlet) restaurant, but upon closer inspection on my way back, I realized it was actually a restaurant specializing in gyukatsu (beef cutlet), a popular dish in the Kansai region. I placed an order for the 160g beef loin cutlet set meal and my companion ordered the grated beef cutlet set meal. The beef loin cutlet was served with plenty of wasabi, and its rareness made it tender and a perfect match with wasabi and soy sauce. The yuzu pepper salt and curry dipping sauce provided added variety to the flavors. I can see why Katsugyu is popular at each of their locations, including Kyoto Station. Highly recommended.

I stumbled upon a famous beef cutlet restaurant while walking to the bus stop after missing lunch. It was already past 2 PM, so I was able to enter without waiting in line. I ordered the beef loin cutlet set, with 130g for me and 160g for my husband. The set came with dipping sauces of dashi soy sauce, sansho pepper salt, and curry flavor. I personally found that eating with wasabi and dashi soy sauce was the most delicious. When I got tired of the taste, switching to the curry-flavored dipping sauce provided a nice change, and I enjoyed it until the end. There are now several branches open in Tokyo, so I would like to go again if I have the chance.
