I went there for the first time in 2-3 years. The sashimi platter was very fresh and delicious. But the real highlight was the deep-fried skewers, they were too delicious. They seem to use rice oil, so the batter is light and crispy, making it easy to eat as many as you want. The must-order item is the crispy tsukune skewer. I definitely want to go back soon.

There is a tempura restaurant in Kyoto celebrating its 10th anniversary. I didn't know about it until my nephew suggested going there. The tempura had a slightly burnt smell, maybe the oil was old, and the breadcrumbs seemed coarse, making the tempura heavy. On the other hand, the sashimi and side dishes (especially the mentaiko dashi roll) exceeded my expectations and were delicious. The staff were friendly, polite, and hardworking, making it a good restaurant. I will definitely visit again!

The kushikatsu is made to order, so it takes a bit of time. My beer was gone before the kushikatsu arrived (laughs). The agedashi tofu was voluminous and delicious. The kushikatsu was small but tasty. I was unsure about this place, but it was the right choice!

I used it for my mother's birthday party. We had a table seat at the far back, and the food was delicious. The female staff members were friendly, and the owner was also very friendly and made the experience enjoyable. I will definitely go there again.

I learned about this kushikatsu restaurant from Mairevi-san. It falls under the category of creative kushikatsu, with prices that are reasonable yet not too high-end. While there are places like Kushikatsu Kushiya Monogatari that are more affordable, I was willing to pay a bit more for a place that is delicious, and this restaurant seems to fit that category. Personally, I consider Tabito in Kitayama as the standard for kushikatsu in Kyoto, but this place is much more affordable. If I were to visit other popular places in the city, A-bon in Hyogo is just too delicious that it costs around 5000 yen per person, so in terms of price balance, Tabito seems to be a good choice. In terms of location, prices drop significantly as you come to Katsura. This place has a nice atmosphere similar to Kushikatsu Kushihachi, and I can see why it's popular. The batter is light, and the frying oil is light as well. Although this is just my personal opinion, this place represents the Kyoto-style kushikatsu. There is no rule against double dipping. Recommended kushikatsu such as conger eel and tuna may not be as good as the veteran fryers at Kushikatsu Kushihachi, but that's understandable. Rather than saying they are recommended, I think this place shows great potential as a kushikatsu restaurant in Kyoto. Since it's local, I will definitely visit again, and while I appreciate the greatness of Kushikatsu Kushihachi, I also realized that there are other restaurants that can follow in their footsteps. A fine establishment indeed. Just for your reference!

I visited on March 17th and the atmosphere inside the restaurant was really nice and very calming. The kushikatsu, which is apparently fried in rice oil, was hot and I felt like I could eat as many as I wanted. The tartar kushikatsu was also exquisite. The menu was very extensive and it was a great restaurant. I definitely want to come back again!

I visited the tempura restaurant "Agein" located a 2-3 minute drive from the Shimokatsura intersection along the Katsura Kaido street. It's a place I have visited multiple times, but this is my first review. The access to the restaurant is along the Katsura Kaido street, but it's a bit far from the train station, so taking a bus is recommended. The restaurant has a parking lot, so I usually go with someone who doesn't drink. The facade of the restaurant, with lattice design, is easy to spot along the street. Inside, there are bench-style box tables, a counter, and a few semi-private table seats, accommodating various group sizes.
The menu at "Agein" is extensive, not limited to just tempura dishes. Today, I ordered:
- Pork belly grilled salad ¥850
- Avocado slices with mentaiko mayonnaise ¥520
- Fried potatoes ¥380
- Potato salad ¥480
- Dashimaki tamago (rolled omelette) ¥550
- Jumbo shrimp tempura ¥500 (1 piece)
- Meat skewer platter ¥1,580 (10 pieces)
- Seafood skewer platter ¥800 (5 pieces)
- Tartar skewer assortment ¥930 (8 pieces)
- Tamagoyaki rice bowl ¥580
- Conger eel bone senbei (rice cracker) ¥300
- Potato mayonnaise croquette ¥430 (2 pieces)
- Homemade warabimochi (bracken rice cake) ¥480
- Edamame
For drinks, they offer draft beer and white wine by the bottle (served in a unique style). The use of rice oil in their frying makes the dishes light and not greasy, which is a plus. The fried potatoes are particularly delicious, crispy on the outside and not oily, allowing the taste of the potatoes to shine through. The menu offers a variety of dishes, all of which are of high quality. With a wide selection of dishes, clean interior, and good service, "Agein" is a great restaurant for various occasions. I highly recommend it.

The desired shop was full so we visited by car. Upon entering the shop, we were warmly welcomed (and even seen off when leaving). I had informed them over the phone about the number of people and that we were with children, so the table was set with children's dishes (which was a first for me). The seating consisted of a 7-seat counter and about 4 table seats, with a half-circle window next to the table seats overlooking a tree with autumn leaves. The menu was rich in alcoholic beverages and had a variety of options. We ordered the "Pork Belly Yakiniku-style Salad" which was delicious. The skewers had a wide variety of options, both in sets and individual items. They use rice oil, so the batter was crispy but light, which may prevent indigestion. The meat was tender, and even the children enjoyed it. They also had unique items like yam and tomato, which were surprisingly tasty. The bamboo shoots were tender, and it was nice to see seasonal ingredients being used. We easily finished about 10 skewers each. For the finale, we had the "Kakudama Don" which was incredibly delicious with tender pork and a soft-boiled egg. Starting with the appetizer, moving on to the skewers, and ending with the Kakudama Don might become our go-to order at this restaurant. Next time, I'll leave the car behind so I can enjoy some drinks!

It's a stylish creative cuisine restaurant. As the name "Agein" suggests, their main dish is deep-fried skewers. The presentation is very stylish and modern, unlike typical skewer restaurants. The food is incredibly delicious!! No complaints. The staff are elegant and polite. However, it's quite expensive! I would love to go more often, but it can get pricey when trying to eat to your heart's content. The dashimaki tamago was incredibly fluffy and delicious. The sashimi was also very tasty. The plating is amazing! I will take photos next time I go! I also ordered the "Kakudon" and it was delicious. If you go with a group of big eaters who drink a lot, it can get expensive, so it's a place to enjoy conversation while eating and drinking little by little. The interior and lighting of the restaurant are really stylish. It's a good place to go on a date or with a group of female friends. The transportation is inconvenient as you have to walk or take a bus. There is a garage, but you can't drink and drive, right?
