I ordered a morning set (available until 10 am) where you can bake your own bread and dumplings. The bread is normal but cute, and the red bean paste and butter go well together. The bitter matcha tea was delicious! There are few shops open in the morning around here, so it was convenient.

Six of us girls searched for a restaurant with private rooms and ended up going to this place. Despite it being a weekday, we still had to wait a bit. It was about 20 minutes, but the area nearby had a charming Kyoto-like atmosphere, so we didn't mind as we chatted and looked around. The private room we were shown to was absolutely lovely and got us all excited! We each ordered something different, but everyone was satisfied with how delicious the food was. Considering the location, I think it's reasonably priced. We enjoyed our meal, chatted happily without worrying about others around us, and truly had a great time. Thank you very much.

Morning limited cat bread
There is a popular enjoyment of baking and eating dumplings by yourself, and the cat bread is too cute, tried making a face w, ate it with sweet soy sauce! As of January 5, 2023, the only morning available location is Gion Shinbashi. The available stores may change depending on the situation, so it may be good to check frequently!

I stumbled upon this place by chance, and at first, I couldn't quite tell where it was located as it was nestled in a quiet alley in Gion, Kyoto, resembling a tea house. There was a counter and a separate seating area, which seemed suitable for larger groups. I ordered the rice cakes, which were cooked on a grill, giving off a distinctly Kyoto vibe. It was enjoyable to watch them being cooked and they tasted delicious. The matcha tea was rich, the sweet bean paste was coarse, and there was also a sweet soy sauce paste available, which enhanced the flavors. Personally, I found dipping the rice cakes in the sweet bean paste to be the best combination! I look forward to visiting the Arashiyama main store next time.

While feeling the atmosphere of Kyoto, I wanted to enjoy some sweets and tea, so I decided to look for a café. I chose this shop. I thought it might not be open yet, but when I opened the door and asked, they let me in even though it was a little early. I ordered this item from the menu, and it came out in about 5 minutes. The Kyoto-style presentation was nice! First, I took a bite of the purple sweet potato, which looked the most delicious. Oh my, it was incredibly delicious! The matcha was also tasty. I finished it in no time. It was the best!

This is a cafe that fits the term "hidden gem" perfectly. Visited with gourmet friends! There is no big sign outside, so it was a surprise when we opened the door and saw the lovely interior ❤️ ⚫︎ Hot and fluffy rice cakes set 1,400 yen ⚫︎ Matcha tea 600 yen The rice cake set comes with 6 rice cakes, perfect for sharing ❤️ It's fun to grill them yourself! You can enjoy them with sweet soy sauce or red bean paste. The atmosphere at the spacious counter was fantastic! They said if you post on Instagram stories, they will give you a small gift. So, I posted and got a little sticker as a gift haha. Thank you for the meal!

This is a stylish cafe☕️. Today is coffee time. It opens a little early so it's easy to visit, they also have sweet treats, and you can have matcha made right there. The dango I had before was really delicious! This time, the Viennese coffee was delicious! The restroom is a bit spooky with a skeleton theme.

Today, I had breakfast at this place. It's not really a place for older men, so I went there before it even opened. It was a bit hard to find because there were no signs or curtains, but I found it eventually. The staff came out a minute before opening and put up the curtains and lanterns, so I was relieved. I was the 7th person in line, mostly women. The restaurant had a counter with 11 seats and a separate room for 8 people in the back. I ordered the "Cat Morning" which was the only option available. You have to grill it yourself on a charcoal grill, so be careful not to burn it. The bread was very fluffy and delicious. This was my second cup of hot coffee this year. It came with grass dumplings and regular dumplings that you also grill on the charcoal grill. It might not be enough for men, so I'm not sure if you can order extra bread. Overall, it was a morning that got my spirits up. Thank you for the meal!

I felt like having something sweet, so I visited a tea house right before closing time. They served me tea and made small rice cakes using a mini grill. I could enjoy the rice cakes with sweet soy sauce and sweet bean paste. The mugwort rice cake was delicious! If you can, definitely try the matcha tea! ✨

Experience-based! A cute-sized shichirin (portable clay stove) comes out and you can grill your own dango (sweet rice dumplings) to eat at this interactive shop. I arrived around 4 pm on a weekday and had to wait for 2 groups ahead of me, but I was called in about 10 minutes. However, it seems like there are certain timings, as there was no line at all after me. It only took about 5 minutes from ordering to being served. You wait until both sides of the dango are grilled, then enjoy them with mitarashi (sweet soy sauce) topping. The mitarashi sauce is homemade and deliciously sweet. The atmosphere of grilling the dango on the shichirin and the overall experience gives off a Kyoto vibe, making it fun! Just be careful, as 6 dango can be quite filling!

My husband and I were heading to Kyoto on the morning Shinkansen, but due to heavy rain, we had to wait inside the train for a few hours. Even after departure, the train was running at a slower speed, so we realized we wouldn't make it in time for lunch. A friend contacted the restaurant where we had a reservation and managed to change it to the next day for us. Although we couldn't have lunch with our friend, we decided to at least have a little tea, so we came to this café in Arashiyama, the popular second branch of a café in Gion. When we entered the shop, we saw a wonderful counter seat area, but unfortunately, it was full, so we were guided to a private room in the back (shared by two parties). The staff told us that this place used to be a sushi restaurant, and the counter seats are still mainly used as they are very impressive and have a nice atmosphere. We ordered the dumpling set, which includes grass mochi and plain mochi, along with matcha. It's a popular menu at this café. The charcoal grill is shared by two people. You cook the dumplings slowly until they have a nice brown color on the surface, then dip them in either soy sauce or sweet red bean paste. Unfortunately, the dumplings were a bit hard and dry. We were both hungry as we hadn't had breakfast or lunch, so we ordered one set per person, but we couldn't finish them. We wished the dumplings were softer and fresher. Each set was around 1200 yen. We realized that it would have been better to order one drink and share one set between the two of us. Despite the food, the atmosphere was nice, and we were able to relax. Thank you for the meal.

A famous shop from Arashiyama has opened in Gion Shirakawa. This stylish dessert shop is popular for its freshly baked dango and matcha. Normally, there would be long lines, but we were able to enter easily this time.

This is Iks Cafe in Gion. I went there and posted on Instagram. I had seen the Japanese-style desserts on Instagram, so I visited when I was in Kyoto. The desserts were delicious and visually appealing, perfect for tourists. The atmosphere inside the cafe was nice, and even though the tea was a bit bitter, it was still tasty. The staff seemed a bit busy as there was only one person working. That's the only downside! I may not visit again, but I would like to go back if I have the chance. Thank you for the meal!

Renovated Japanese house turned popular traditional cafe eX cafe has opened in Gion Shirakawa, Kyoto, following its success in Arashiyama. The cafe offers a luxurious and cozy atmosphere reminiscent of a high-end Japanese restaurant, with a hidden garden and private rooms in the back. The menu is the same as the original Arashiyama location, featuring a unique dish called the "Hokuhoku Odango Set" (1200 yen), where you can grill your own rice dumplings on a charcoal grill to your desired doneness and then dip them in either sweet red bean paste or soy sauce glaze. Matcha tea is also served to complete the experience. Unlike the Arashiyama location, there is currently no wait to get in, but it is likely to become a popular spot soon.

Recently, a common way to find restaurants is to search on Instagram. During my trip to Kyoto, I found a trendy sweets shop and decided to visit. One of the highlights was being able to grill my own dango while enjoying the cozy atmosphere. Surprisingly, the shop was not crowded, and I could relax at the spacious counter seat. The dango came in two varieties - grass dango and white dango, with two types of toppings: mitarashi sauce and sweet red bean paste. Both were delicious, but the mitarashi sauce was particularly tasty. Overall, it was a satisfying tea time with matcha included.

I wanted to visit the Ikse Cafe that I had my eyes on in the guidebook. I absolutely had to go. I ordered 3 skewers each of yomogi and regular mochi. They came with mitarashi sauce and red bean paste. The matcha tea was also delicious. There is a shop in Arashiyama, but they opened one in Gion four months ago. It's convenient for sightseeing in Gion. It wasn't too crowded, maybe because it was a weekday afternoon. It was a comfortable experience.

I arrived around 16:30. Waited for about 30 minutes before entering the store. The atmosphere inside the store was nice. The dango I ordered was soft and delicious, as I grilled it myself. It was a bit pricey, but worth it for the atmosphere.
