On Sunday afternoon, I came to a café in Ameyoko for lunch. Despite it being just before lunchtime on a holiday, I was able to enter without any trouble. The nostalgic atmosphere and scent inside the café were comforting. The leather-covered sofas exuded a nostalgic Showa era scent. The chandeliers and stained glass decorations were reminiscent of the bubble economy era, a common sight in cafés back then, but now they appear sepia-tinted. I ordered the curry set (with iced coffee) for 880 yen (tax included). It was quite cheap, especially considering the coffee was included. The amount of curry was generous, as you can see. It felt like homemade curry - rich and mildly spicy. The rice and curry were served generously. I felt so relaxed. There are two ways to think about eating curry outside: either a unique curry that you can't make at home, or a home-style curry like the one at this café. For those who miss the taste of home or are longing for their mother's cooking, this kind of curry can be emotional and delicious. I love it too. The homemade iced coffee was strong and good. It was cheap. Thank you for the meal.

A cafe located in a building basement in Ueno. I visited in the summer, but the air conditioning wasn't working well, so it was hot. The service was a bit disorganized. The iced coffee and iced tea were priced at 500 yen, which is okay. Smoking is allowed. The interior is dimly lit, which seems to be part of the atmosphere they're going for.

The building is wonderful!! From the entrance! Truly!! This is a shop that I definitely don't want to disappear. I won't comment on the quality of the coffee, but one disappointing aspect was that the inside of the shop smelled musty. It's understandable given the age of the building and the fact that it's underground. The owner is friendly enough. It seems like a place you could visit regularly. Despite the presence of a stunning chandelier and stained glass, the slightly dim atmosphere gives off a deep, underground vibe.

Classical old-fashioned coffee shop in Ueno. The chandeliers are lovely and it's often used in movies and dramas. I ordered a cream soda. The waiter, who looks like Diane Yuusuke, had a cold attitude. The place seems to be aging, with the air conditioner not working well and a musty smell. The basement floor was not open for business, and it felt like they might be counting down to closing. It seems like they didn't use to be open on Sundays before. It was good to be able to visit after a long time. Oh, and the cream soda was... just average.

This is a pure coffee shop located about a 5-minute walk from Ueno Station. The interior has beautiful chandeliers, creating a glamorous atmosphere. I had a mixed juice here after my meal, made from freshly squeezed fruit, and it was delicious. I would like to come back again to enjoy the elegant atmosphere.

The restaurant was supposed to open at 10 am according to Tabelog, but it seemed like they opened at 11 am. When I entered at 11 am, I was told that the food would take a long time. It took quite a while for the food to finally arrive, and the service was silent. The taste was average.

At the recommendation of a senior, I stopped by. The cream soda had syrup settling at the bottom and didn't taste good, haha. It was my first time trying syrup-based melon soda and I was disappointed. The interior of the restaurant is in a sort of limbo between being old-fashioned and dirty. It could be said that it has character, but I don't think it's the charm of the old town.

I slipped back in time to the Showa era at a retro coffee shop in Ueno, where I had some delicious Napolitan. The atmosphere here is wonderful, exuding a nostalgic Showa vibe in every detail. The retro charm of this place makes it feel like a set straight out of a movie. It's actually been used in dramas and such. On a weekday afternoon, the place was bustling with many customers. My wife and I decided to visit this charming coffee shop. Despite the Napolitan being a popular choice, I opted for a milkshake. I always order one when I see it on the menu, as I've loved them since I was a kid. Enjoying a milkshake in this atmosphere was truly the best. The retro vibe perfectly complemented the drink. I also had a taste of the Napolitan, which had a nostalgic Showa-era flavor that everyone must have tried before. It was undeniably delicious. It felt like time had stopped in this unique space. In the midst of our busy lives, taking the time to relax in a coffee shop like this is truly a wonderful experience. I discovered this lovely space and it was a delightful find!

Tabelog 3.52✍️Junkissa Oka, Okachimachi - Banana Parfait ¥850, Iced Coffee ¥500 On this day, I went to Oka, a retro-style coffee shop in Okachimachi, to enjoy a delicious parfait. This shop has a nostalgic atmosphere with chandeliers and stained glass, making you feel like you've traveled back to the Showa era. Opened in 1964, it is one of the "Top Three Pure Coffee Shops in Ueno" along with Coffee Jojo and Kojyo, and has been loved for a long time. It has also been featured as a filming location in movies and dramas such as "I'm Home" starring Takuya Kimura, "Top Cops!!" starring Sho Sakurai, "Winny" starring Masaki Suda and Takahiro Miura, "Cherry Magic!" starring Eiji Akaso and Keita Machida, and "Yamikin Ushijima-kun Season 3." The shop is quite popular among salarymen for meetings and young women looking for parfaits, with parfaits often selling out by evening. On a certain Friday, I arrived at 12:45, a little past the 12:00 start of parfait sales, and ordered a Banana Parfait and an Iced Coffee. The parfait arrived in about 10 minutes, with a mountain of whipped cream, bananas, and vanilla ice cream. The parfait had that classic "pure coffee shop" look and was delicious. The rich whipped cream was not too sweet, and the smooth vanilla ice cream paired perfectly with the black coffee. It wasn't heavy even when eating the ice cream and whipped cream together. The banana parfait from this long-loved shop is truly on another level. It tends to have long lines on weekends, but it's highly recommended for a break or meeting spot in the Ueno-Okachimachi area! The shop allows smoking, so it may not be suitable for those sensitive to cigarette smoke. I look forward to trying their cheesecake next time! - Junkissa Oka 6-5-3 Ueno, Taito-ku, Tokyo, B1F Onaka Building 2 minutes walk from JR Okachimachi Station North Exit (174m) - Business Hours: [Tue-Fri] 10:00-16:00 [Sat-Sun, Holidays] 10:30-17:00 - Closed on Mondays (or the following day if it's a holiday) - Payment: Cash only, no electronic payments or QR code payments.

On a regular weekday around 1 pm, I decided to have lunch at this shop near Ueno Station. It's a well-known old coffee shop and I was looking forward to visiting. I went down the stairs of the historic building. When I entered, it wasn't very crowded but I was seated at a table near the entrance. The floor around my table was peeling and the sofa seats were torn, which you wouldn't know until you actually visit. It might just be around where I sat. It felt very Ueno-like. I ordered the Napolitan set (880 yen) with iced coffee. It took almost 40 minutes for the food to be ready, and I wondered if they had forgotten about it. Perhaps they were short-staffed. It would have been nice if they had mentioned in advance that it would take longer. However, the Napolitan had a rich flavor, true to the taste of this longstanding establishment. The iced coffee after the meal also took a bit of time, but it was fairly good, with a decent bitterness. The taste of the water served... was this tap water? It reminded me of a place I once visited in Ueno where the water had a chlorine smell. It was quite an experience in Ueno with various unexpected events.

This was my first visit to this place. On a weekday afternoon, I came with two friends. About the restaurant: Located near Ueno Station, this is a classic coffee shop known as one of the "Top 3 Pure Coffee Shops in Ueno" (along with Coffee King Castle and Old Castle). The shop has a retro Showa-era atmosphere and luxurious interior decorations. It is a 2-minute walk from JR Okachimachi Station and a 5-minute walk from Ueno Station Park Exit, situated between Ameyoko Shopping Street and Route 1. We arrived at the shop at 12:05 pm. Walking down a street from the station towards Route 1, we saw an old-fashioned signboard that read "Pure Coffee Shop Oka." According to the sign, the entrance to "Oka" is not on the ground level but underground. Following the directions, we descended the stairs and opened the glass door to be greeted by a wonderful space we had been eagerly waiting for. Gorgeous chandeliers, velvet chairs, stained glass windows...every corner exuded stylishness. One of my friends even commented that it felt like a place where literary figures would visit, which was fitting given the opulence of the place. Perhaps due to it being a weekday, the shop was quite empty, allowing us to enjoy a leisurely time with just the three of us. Menu: They have a variety of soft drinks like cream soda and banana juice. The food menu includes casual options like Napolitan, ham sandwich, and tuna sandwich, some of which come with a drink. I ordered the Napolitan and cream soda, while my friends ordered the tuna sandwich set (with hot coffee) and egg sandwich set (with iced tea). Cream Soda (650 yen): This was a menu item I had decided to try when coming here. It arrived 30 minutes after ordering. The melon soda was poured into a tall glass with a generous scoop of white vanilla ice cream on top. The soda, as well as the ice cream, were quite sweet with a gentle taste. The melon flavor and faint vanilla scent were impressive. Napolitan (700 yen): I ordered this classic menu item typical of a pure coffee shop. It had ingredients like green peppers, onions, and ham. The seasoning was rich, with a strong ketchup flavor. The chewy noodles and thick ham were distinctive, making it a quite filling dish. The following were what my friends ordered. I tasted a bit based on their kind words. Tuna Sandwich - Coffee Sandwich (6 slices): The sandwich had tuna, cucumber, and mayonnaise sandwiched between slices of bread. The flaky tuna and creamy mayonnaise paired well. Egg Sandwich - Iced Tea (6 slices): This sandwich had a fried egg, cucumber, and mayonnaise. The egg was fluffy and flavorful, with a generous amount of mayonnaise that made it delicious. We enjoyed the conversation, food, and atmosphere to the fullest. I am curious about the other top 3 pure coffee shops in Ueno, so I would love to visit them if I get the chance.

After watching a movie, I decided to have a late lunch at a restaurant on the hill. It was 2:00 pm and the place was almost full, but luckily there was one table available so I could sit down right away. There were some girls nearby smoking electronic cigarettes, but the girl who sat next to me was smoking a regular cigarette, so it seemed like the restaurant allowed smoking in general, not just e-cigarettes. I ordered the Meat Sauce Set (880 yen) and the Napolitan Set (880 yen), with a hot coffee as the drink. It seemed like there was only one person on the floor and one person in the kitchen, so it took quite some time for the food to come out. After waiting for about 15 minutes, the Meat Sauce arrived. The thick noodles were topped with plenty of meat sauce, and it went well with the grated cheese. Just as I finished the Meat Sauce, the Napolitan arrived. It had a slightly sweet taste. Even after adding more grated cheese, it still tasted sweet. I started to wonder if they forgot about the drink, but finally, after waiting for what seemed like a long time (18 minutes after the Napolitan arrived), the hot coffee was served. It was a strong, bitter coffee that I couldn't drink black.

When I was a child, my mother often took me to this luxurious restaurant with a nostalgic atmosphere. The waiters were cool and reminded me of the past. I was hoping to have the Neapolitan dish, but it was already sold out! I settled for the mixed sandwich, which was also a classic and delicious. The place had a casual and unpretentious vibe, truly a traditional coffee shop. This restaurant is rare nowadays as it allows smoking, adding to the nostalgic ambiance. There may be mixed opinions about it, but overall, it was a great experience!

A retro Showa era coffee shop located somewhere between Ueno and Okachimachi. The interior of the shop had even more retro vibes than I had imagined. It felt like I had slipped back in time to the Showa era, even though I wasn't alive then. The Napolitan pasta was generously topped with ketchup and had a strong, well-seasoned flavor, requiring paper napkins. The food was delicious, but on the day I visited, I was told it would take 50 minutes from ordering to serving, and it actually took that long. It's a popular spot, so I understand, but it might not be suitable for impatient people like me. However, the taste was good, so if I find the shop less crowded next time, I would like to visit again.

The retro café had a natural, faded vibe throughout. I ordered a lemon squash without it being too sweet, and it was served with two pieces of gum syrup. Even though some people were smoking, it seemed like smoking was allowed in the café.

Near Ueno Station, there is a shop located on the basement 1st and 2nd floors. The entrance was normal-sized, but inside, it was a large space with over 100 seats. The shop closes at 4:00 PM and has a retro Showa-era atmosphere where smoking is allowed, and the smell of cigarettes lingered. I ordered "Cheesecake and H Coffee." The cheesecake had a lemon sauce sandwiched between layers of whipped cream. It was delicious. Thank you very much.

Ordered a Neapolitan as a single item. It cost 700 yen including tax. The taste was mediocre at best. The thick and chewy noodles were good, but there were too few ingredients to mix with the noodles. There was a small amount of bacon and green peppers, and hardly any onions (maybe none at all?). The sauce was thick, but lacked acidity, and was average at best. The portion was also disappointing, lacking in volume. The atmosphere of the restaurant was like a traditional coffee shop, nostalgic and nice.

Around 14:00 on Sunday. The restaurant is almost full. I had a tamago sandwich and an iced coffee. The comforting flavors made me think this would be a great place to take a break from the hustle and bustle of Ueno. However, I don't think I will visit again because it has a retro feel and lacks cleanliness. Being old is fine, but not cleaning properly is a different story. Also, smoking (both regular and electronic cigarettes) is allowed, so it might be a good place for those who want to smoke.

Vienna Coffee is located about a 10-minute walk from Ueno Station. The shop is underground. When I arrived before 11 am on a holiday, there were already 3 groups of customers! By the time I left, 90% of the seats were filled. It has been used as a location for various dramas and movies, so I was curious to visit! The atmosphere was lovely! Fortunately, there were no smokers during the time I was there, but since the air inside the underground shop can get stuffy, it might be a bit tough for those who are sensitive to smoke...

I visited this café which is also a filming location for a movie featuring my favorite artist. When I sat down, I was informed that the food would take a little while, so please be aware if you are in a hurry. The atmosphere was calm and the lighting was carefully chosen, giving off a lovely old-fashioned café vibe. (Smoking allowed, but be cautious as some people were turned away when the seats were full.) The Napolitan I ordered had thick noodles and a rich flavor, just like the ideal "café-style Napolitan," which really lifted my mood. The staff brought my order and drinks at the right timing, making my time there very comfortable. I would like to visit again soon.
