花月 桃
This was my first visit to this place. On a weekday afternoon, I came with two friends.
About the restaurant:
Located near Ueno Station, this is a classic coffee shop known as one of the "Top 3 Pure Coffee Shops in Ueno" (along with Coffee King Castle and Old Castle). The shop has a retro Showa-era atmosphere and luxurious interior decorations. It is a 2-minute walk from JR Okachimachi Station and a 5-minute walk from Ueno Station Park Exit, situated between Ameyoko Shopping Street and Route 1.
We arrived at the shop at 12:05 pm. Walking down a street from the station towards Route 1, we saw an old-fashioned signboard that read "Pure Coffee Shop Oka." According to the sign, the entrance to "Oka" is not on the ground level but underground. Following the directions, we descended the stairs and opened the glass door to be greeted by a wonderful space we had been eagerly waiting for. Gorgeous chandeliers, velvet chairs, stained glass windows...every corner exuded stylishness. One of my friends even commented that it felt like a place where literary figures would visit, which was fitting given the opulence of the place. Perhaps due to it being a weekday, the shop was quite empty, allowing us to enjoy a leisurely time with just the three of us.
Menu:
They have a variety of soft drinks like cream soda and banana juice. The food menu includes casual options like Napolitan, ham sandwich, and tuna sandwich, some of which come with a drink. I ordered the Napolitan and cream soda, while my friends ordered the tuna sandwich set (with hot coffee) and egg sandwich set (with iced tea).
Cream Soda (650 yen):
This was a menu item I had decided to try when coming here. It arrived 30 minutes after ordering. The melon soda was poured into a tall glass with a generous scoop of white vanilla ice cream on top. The soda, as well as the ice cream, were quite sweet with a gentle taste. The melon flavor and faint vanilla scent were impressive.
Napolitan (700 yen):
I ordered this classic menu item typical of a pure coffee shop. It had ingredients like green peppers, onions, and ham. The seasoning was rich, with a strong ketchup flavor. The chewy noodles and thick ham were distinctive, making it a quite filling dish.
The following were what my friends ordered. I tasted a bit based on their kind words.
Tuna Sandwich - Coffee Sandwich (6 slices):
The sandwich had tuna, cucumber, and mayonnaise sandwiched between slices of bread. The flaky tuna and creamy mayonnaise paired well.
Egg Sandwich - Iced Tea (6 slices):
This sandwich had a fried egg, cucumber, and mayonnaise. The egg was fluffy and flavorful, with a generous amount of mayonnaise that made it delicious.
We enjoyed the conversation, food, and atmosphere to the fullest. I am curious about the other top 3 pure coffee shops in Ueno, so I would love to visit them if I get the chance.
