Located near the Gion Shijo intersection, this restaurant is a great spot to enjoy good quality meat at a relatively affordable price, even if you're dining alone. The interior is still new and clean. It's also suitable for groups. When I visited around 1 pm on a holiday, there were a few groups of customers already seated, and more came in gradually, but there were still plenty of available seats.
[What I ordered]
- 5 kinds of meat set meal: ¥1480
- Oolong tea: ¥280
* Rice is free for seconds and upsizing!
The meat quality was better than I expected, with a nice balance of tenderness and chewiness. For this price, it's quite good. However, the roaster might not be the best quality, as it's difficult to adjust the heat without asking a staff member. At one point, flames shot up to about 10cm high, and I had to ask for the heat to be lowered. The staff's response was a bit vague, so it took some effort to get the flame under control. But then, the meat wouldn't cook properly. I had to use ice from my drink to cool down the grill. It's good to be prepared to handle such situations on your own, as the staff didn't check on the customers frequently.
Overall, it was a decent meal!

After watching the Gion Festival, I went alone around 2 pm. The seat was about half full, but more and more people came in, and it quickly became full. You can order with your smartphone, and the water is self-serve. I ordered the upper kalbi and hormone set meal for 1480 yen. Also, there was an option for a lemon sour for 500 yen with one hour of all-you-can-drink, which many people seemed to be ordering. The meat arrived in about 10 minutes. The sour took about 5 minutes after that. There are two types of sauces, normal and spicy. The hormone was chewy and delicious. The kalbi was also very tasty, and for this price, I am satisfied. I added the kalbi for 590 yen. However, the rice did not come... I asked for it along with the sour refill, but it took a while to arrive. The rice came with a little bit of seaweed soup and kimchi. The rice was a bit soft, but considering the quality of the meat and the price, it was good. Thank you for the meal.

It has been two years and three months since my last visit. The meat was decent for the price, with Akasen being the best, followed by Kalbi, Hormone, and Harami. The Harami had a bit too strong of a marinade flavor. The all-you-can-drink lemon sour for 60 minutes was like a substitute for a drink bar. I didn't get drunk at all. It was nice to enjoy yakiniku and alcohol after a long time. It was a satisfying meal. Thank you very much.

I am grateful for being able to enjoy solo yakiniku without any worries. The atmosphere of the restaurant seems to be geared towards inbound customers. The meat was tender and the sauce was perfectly seasoned, making it delicious. The all-you-can-drink lemon sour for 550 yen including tax was a great deal, and they also offer affordable set meals. I will definitely visit again.

Solo Yakiniku! I kept seeing it pass by multiple times in front of me, so I decided to give it a try. When I entered, there were quite a few people - young and old, men and women dining alone. The menu was accessed through a QR code on my phone, which was pretty modern. I ordered the Hormone and Upper Kalbi set for 980 yen and when the meat arrived, it was delicious! The meat was so tasty, especially the Upper Kalbi cooked over charcoal. The Hormone was also very flavorful. Plus, they offer free extra rice! What a great restaurant! I will definitely be coming back!

Located right by Kawaramachi Station in Kyoto. I stopped by here today. The interior of the restaurant mainly consists of counter seats, and as indicated by the sign outside, it caters to solo diners. The menu is typical for a yakiniku restaurant, with each person having their own tabletop grill. They also offer set meals even in the evening, and orders are placed through your own smartphone. I ordered the Kalbi and Hormone set meal in a half size. Let's dig in! First, the draft beer arrived. It came in a stainless steel mug that looked like it held a lot, but in reality, it had a false bottom, so it seemed to have less than expected. The quality of the meat in the set meal exceeded its price. The strong heat allowed the meat to cook quickly, which was a plus. Overall, it was a delicious meal! During my visit, there were two solo female diners, so the barrier for solo yakiniku dining seemed low. However, the aisle inside the restaurant is quite narrow, so you need to be careful when passing through, and the location of the cash register is not ideal, causing congestion during payment and making the narrow aisle even more cramped. This was a bit disappointing.

A normal yakiniku restaurant. The prices are average. It's easy to go in alone. I had the Special Kalbi Set (2120 yen) and the Upper Harami (860 yen for the amount in the photo), but the taste was just average. You can get one free refill of rice with the set. One thing to be careful of is that the staff, who seem inexperienced, take a long time to explain things after you're seated, and sometimes they seat customers who arrived later before you. It's okay to enjoy yakiniku alone here, but if you're coming with someone else, you might want to think twice. There were a lot of couples dining here.

I ordered the set with top harami and rice at a yakiniku restaurant. The top harami came with about 6 slices of tender meat, along with kimchi and miso soup. It was just over 1000 yen, and it completely satisfied my craving for meat! This is recommended for when you want to eat quickly by yourself. The young staff, working in a team of three, were very efficient and impressive.

After a morning activity with my friend at university, we decided to grab some food before my part-time job. We went to this restaurant with the intention of ordering solo BBQ, but ended up getting the two-person BBQ set. While solo customers are seated at the counter, we were seated at a table. Orders are placed using your own smartphone by scanning the QR code on the receipt. We ordered the Upper Harami and Teppan set (980 yen before tax). Rice can be refilled once for free, and soup and kimchi are also included. The soup was especially delicious. It had been a while since I had BBQ, so I was very satisfied. Thank you for the meal!

I remembered seeing a recent TV report about a restaurant that serves yakiniku for solo diners, so I decided to look it up online and visit. Located in Shijo Kiya-cho, the "Hitori" restaurant had a narrow entrance that was just right for entering alone. The counter was divided for each solo diner, and there was a grill set up for each person as well. Orders were placed through your own smartphone, which made me wonder about the security. I ordered the "Upper Kalbi & Hormone Set 100g," which came with the option of extra rice. The 100g portion was about 5 slices, which might be enough for elderly or female customers, but younger people might find it a bit lacking. The meat was tender and delicious, and for the price of 1,070 yen including tax, dining alone at this place was quite satisfactory. You can also order additional items or opt for more substantial menu items. Sometimes, enjoying yakiniku quietly alone can be a nice experience.

After some time, I forgot the details, but I ordered a set meal for 980 yen plus tax (1070 yen). I used my smartphone to scan the QR code for mobile ordering. It seems like they are trying to reduce labor costs and prevent the spread of the new coronavirus. The serving was quick. The meal included rice, soup, and kimchi. The meat grilled on the gas burner was simple but delicious. It's convenient for solo diners as it's hard to grill meat at home without filling the room with smoke and smell. Thank you for the meal.

Yakiniku Series Part 35: Kyoto Edition
Located just a 1-2 minute walk from Gion-Shijo Station, this yakiniku restaurant is managed by the Yaruki Group. I had made a reservation in advance and arrived on time. This place specializes in kalbi and sundubu, similar to Han Don, another restaurant in the same group. The interior has a mix of counter and table seating, and while it's promoted as a place for solo yakiniku dining, they also have tables for multiple people. You can order by scanning a barcode with your smartphone or iPod to access the menu. I ordered the beef tongue and hormone. At first glance, it seemed like an all-you-can-eat level, but it was better than expected. There is a decent variety of meat options, and they also offer cold noodles and yukgaejang. The only thing that worried me was what would happen if you didn't have a mobile device to order with.

I wanted to eat a little meat. Should I have just ordered lean meat and skipped the offal at this restaurant? I satisfied my craving for meat, so for now it's okay. P.S. There were more solo female customers than solo male customers!!

Counter-style yakiniku restaurant for solo diners. They had measures in place for COVID-19, like leaving every other seat empty. There were also table seats in the back for groups. I can't remember exactly what I ate, but I went there to de-stress with some yakiniku. I think I ordered a plate of horumon, some bone-in meat, and harami. I've been there a couple more times in the past few months. They also offer set meals with extra rice. The place is clean and the meat is delicious. I used to live in Yamashina, so I've been to their table seat restaurant a few times too. It's a reliable quality. They also offer all-you-can-drink lemon chu-hai, but I don't drink much alcohol. I ate quickly and caught the last train home. They gave me a piece of gum, wrapped in silver foil and paper, with a mint flavor. It was a nice touch. Thank you for the meal.

Harami 490 yen, Hormone 390 yen, Mung Bean Sprout Namul 290 yen, Shochu highball 290 yen x2 [Total] 1,920 yen. I went on a solo yakiniku restaurant hopping adventure. The basic setup was a counter for solo diners, with tables for four and six in the back. You can order small portions of meat, but the variety of meat and drinks was greater than at the solo yakiniku restaurant "Yakiniku Like". If you're coming for drinks, this is the place to be. Personally, if I were to come back again, I would choose this place over "Yakiniku Like". P.S. It's fine to eat and drink facing the wall at this place, which I like.

When you feel like eating meat, this is the place to go! You might wonder what a solo yakiniku specialty restaurant is like, but when you enter, you'll see a counter in the shape of a "コ" (ko) with a space underneath to store your belongings. The menu is tucked under the counter with a thin gap, making it very compact and well-designed. Each person has their own grill, so even if you go with two people, you can cook at your own pace, which is great! The harami (skirt steak) is a must-try, along with the loin and kalbi, all delicious for their prices! Opting for highball or lemon sour instead of beer gives you good value for money. When you're craving meat, don't hesitate to come here and enjoy some solo drinking and eating! Typically, with upper loin, upper harami, and a lemon sour, it's just over 2000 yen. There are also three table seats at the back for those who prefer. Many solo female diners come here, so it's a safe choice.

Yaruki, a yakiniku chain restaurant, focuses on the concept of "solo yakiniku." The quality of the meat at Yaruki is surprisingly good for the price. It's better to go for the higher quality cuts without being too frugal, as they offer great value for money. The casual and welcoming atmosphere makes it easy to dine alone. I am grateful for the experience, not only at the restaurant in Sotocho, but also at the nearby branch.

Today, I went out for drinks in Shijo Kawaramachi with my gym friends. As a final stop, we decided to have a light meal at a yakiniku restaurant.
Yakiniku Yaruki is a chain restaurant based in Kyoto that specializes in yakiniku. They have a solo dining concept where each person has their own grill to cook their meat. The restaurant layout allows for a comfortable dining experience for individuals. Compared to other yakiniku restaurants, they offer smaller portions of each type of meat, allowing you to try a variety of options. Of course, they also welcome groups of two or more.
The grill was lit up. My friends ordered aged harami and crispy meat, while I opted for beef tongue and loin. I also couldn't resist ordering a mini bowl of rice.
The thick-sliced beef tongue with green onions looked delicious. I grilled it right away and the seared cuts opened up, releasing the savory juices. Topped with green onions, it was a burst of flavor in every bite.
I tried a piece of the aged harami from my friend, which was also flavorful with a good amount of fat.
We finished off with the aged loin, which had a unique taste compared to regular meat. It was delicious and just the right portion size.
I enjoyed the casual atmosphere of being able to enjoy yakiniku solo. I can see myself coming back here again for another meal!

The place is located between Hankyu Kawaramachi Station and Keihan Gion Shijo Station, and I happened to stop by around dinner time. The sign saying "A yakiniku restaurant where you can dine alone" caught my attention. Inside, there is a long counter facing each other at the front, with table seats at the back. Each person has their own grill, allowing you to cook your meat freely. The menu is similar to other yakiniku restaurants. I ordered "Oolong Highball 380 yen," "Thick-cut beef tongue (salt) half portion 950 yen," and "Aged harami (salt) 700 yen." I prefer starting with salt seasoning. The thick-cut beef tongue half portion was beautifully arranged with 3 thick slices. The harami was also good, so let's start grilling. The grill is small and smokeless, sucking in the smoke at the front. I topped the grilled tongue with green onion salt. Thick-cut tongue has a different umami compared to thinly sliced ones. The harami is quite fresh and delicious even with just salt seasoning. The Oolong Highball is going down smoothly. I added "Kalbi (marinated) 600 yen" because I felt like trying marinated meat too. The marinated kalbi with soy sauce-based sauce had a nice chewy texture, perfect for rolling with rice. Of course, it goes well with Oolong Highball too. When I first ordered, I was given a choice of 3 dipping sauces, and I chose the Kyoto-style light sauce with a small amount of onion. It's more like a sauce to remove excess fat rather than a dipping sauce. Eating yakiniku alone can be a bit pricey, so having a variety of half-size menu options is appreciated. *Prices are based on pre-tax rates.

Located on the south side of Shijo Kiyamachi, just east of Shijo-kiyamachi, is a restaurant called "Hitori Yakiniku Kyoto Yaruki" with a signboard. As the name suggests, this is a restaurant designed for solo diners to enjoy yakiniku in a casual setting. The majority of the seating inside consists of counter seats, each equipped with a small yakiniku grill. The individual meat dishes are served in small portions so that one can try a variety of items even when dining alone. The restaurant operates continuously, and lunch sets are available until 5 pm. The lunch sets, which include options like kalbi, loin, and harami, range from 1000 to 2000 yen. Each set comes with barley rice, soup, salad, and pickles, with free refills. The barley in the rice is minimal, the soup is slightly salty, the salad is mostly shredded cabbage, and the pickles are shibazuke. Customers can choose the seasoning for the raw meat and the dipping sauce. During my visit with another person, we opted for a table seat. There are about three tables of different sizes at the back of the restaurant, each with its own grill. The meat in the loin set was slightly tender and had a higher fat content, allowing us to experience the atmosphere of yakiniku.
