The basic menu is omakase only. We enjoyed delicious sushi such as shirako, sashimi platter, grilled dishes, and 11 pieces of nigiri sushi. The female chef and owner were very friendly, creating a great atmosphere. This restaurant has only 8 counter seats, so reservations are a must. Highly recommended sushi restaurant!

I have been a patron of this restaurant since it was located on the second floor of Nishiki Market. I used to visit this place every time I traveled to Kansai once a month back then. I remember struggling to find places to eat because I was not familiar with the area, it was late at night, and I usually dined alone. One day, I stumbled upon a sushi restaurant near my hotel and thought it was Kyoto Sushi, but it turned out to be Edomae sushi. The restaurant later relocated to Gojo, and I finally had the chance to visit again. The owner and the female chef greeted me with the same warm smiles as before, but there was a sense of elegance about them. I couldn't take photos of the delicious sushi, but I noticed that they now only offer set courses instead of ordering a la carte. Despite the lack of lively conversations like before, I still enjoyed the delicious Edomae sushi. I couldn't stay long this time, but it was a pleasant and nostalgic experience.

<2016.04 First Visit> This time, I was introduced to this shop by a customer. Since the end of last year, I have been coming to Kyoto once a quarter. I have started to like this city with a certain atmosphere. This shop. The appearance of the shop is very charming and attractive. As the sun begins to set, the faint light makes it possible to see inside the shop, which is very nice. The basic menu consists of courses only. Sashimi, grilled dishes, sushi, and it is a satisfying composition. I couldn't take all the photos because I got so engrossed in the conversation halfway through... sweat. In addition to the course, they also gave me a few extra pieces of sushi when I needed more. They have a selection of beer, sake, and shochu. This time, I mainly enjoyed sake. It is Edo-style sushi that you can enjoy while chatting with the owner and the hostess at the counter. The atmosphere is so nice that I think it's perfect for a date, but you want to make sure it doesn't get too noisy. This time, I was able to talk about work, have a conversation with the owner, and spend a very meaningful time. I heard that after training at a certain sushi restaurant in Tokyo, he opened his shop in Kyoto 25 years ago. I also heard about a shop run by his junior in Ginza, so I would like to visit there in the future. A craftsman who started the shop again while managing a serious illness. I think that such a spirit is also seeping into the atmosphere, creating a good space along with the taste of the food. This shop has become one of the places I definitely want to visit when I come to Kyoto. I will visit again.

(December 2015 revisit) I visited the restaurant again after six months, this time with a guest. I accidentally forgot my smartphone, so there are no photos for the first half of the meal. The course was like a sushi kaiseki, with no a la carte options, just omakase. They can adjust for allergies or portion sizes. We started with a dish of cloud ear mushrooms in ponzu sauce, sashimi assortment, and grilled fish in sweet miso. The sashimi was very fresh and the grilled fish was perfectly cooked. Then came the sushi (photos from here on). We had toro, squid, sea bream, marinated fish, baby mackerel, sea urchin, sweet shrimp, egg, horse mackerel, conger eel, ark shell, and rolled sushi. The course and the sushi itself were better than last time, more refined. So, I've rated it a bit higher this time. Thank you for the meal. I look forward to visiting again next year. (June 2015 first visit) I found a wonderful sushi restaurant on Bukkoji Street, near Yanaginobaba, where many nice shops have been popping up recently. This time, I dined with a guest, and since it was my first visit, I'm the first to review it. The restaurant is a renovated old Japanese house, with a quiet exterior. Inside, it's clean and spacious, with a traditional Japanese garden, giving it a Kyoto-like atmosphere. The soft indirect lighting creates an elegant and sophisticated ambiance, different from the typical sushi restaurant, quiet and stylish. The menu is omakase only, like a sushi kaiseki course. We started with appetizers of simmered bracken and tofu, sashimi assortment, conger eel soup, and grilled golden snapper. Then came the main sushi course. We had toro, flounder, squid, ark shell, sweet shrimp, marinated tuna, small herring, sea urchin, mantis shrimp, conger eel, and egg. There were eleven pieces in total. The head chef worked at Tsukiji Sushizanmai for a long time and also at Sushizanmai in New York, so his sushi skills are top-notch. Everything was delicious, especially the sea urchin and conger eel. The service was attentive, and the owners, a couple, shared interesting stories with us. It was a delightful and enjoyable evening. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

This is a shop located on Bukkoji Street. The day before, I passed by this place on my bicycle around 3 pm, remembered the name of the shop, and when I searched online after returning home, I found out that it used to be a sushi restaurant in Nishiki Market. I had been wanting to visit since then, but I couldn't remember the name of the shop, so I never imagined that the shop had moved here. I made a reservation by phone the day before. But about 10 minutes before my reservation, there was a cancellation. I visited on Saturday, October 24th. Next to it is a restaurant called Takira. I often pass by this place when walking from Karasuma Gojo to Kiyamachi and Gion. There is a modest sign and a noren hanging. They have only one course, which I didn't ask for the price, but according to my research, it's around 8,000 yen. I ordered a draft beer. The first dish was tuna with wasabi. It tasted like marinated wasabi. Since it was still a bit hot, I chose cold sake without hesitation. The first glass was Urasama. The menu seems to consist only of alcohol options. They also have shochu, wine, and whiskey. The friendly wife and I had a nice chat. The place was full about 30 minutes after we entered. In the shop with a traditional Kyoto townhouse, there is a Japanese-style garden in the back. Sashimi was served. Sweet shrimp, scallop, mackerel, and black rockfish, if I remember correctly. I'm not a big fan of sashimi, but I enjoyed it here. Vinegared dish with shrimp. Some people who didn't like shrimp before have become fans after trying it here. Grilled Spanish mackerel with miso. Spanish mackerel is a fish that is said to taste best in winter, even though some regions say it's in spring. It is an essential fish for sushi. The front one is pickled sardine. The second glass was Sawaya Matsumoto. Now, we move on to sushi. The first one was squid. It was quickly blanched with a knife. Medium fatty tuna. They mainly source their tuna from Kyoto Central Market, Nishiki Market, etc., but they also order from Tsukiji Market. Oh, the owner used to work at Tsukiji Sushi Sei. He seems to be well acquainted with the owner of Senta, a popular restaurant on Takatsuji Street. Considering age, he is probably the senior here. Gizzard shad. The seasoning of vinegar and salt was just right. Ark shell. The decorative knife work is beautiful, making it easy to eat. Before molding it, they lightly hit it on the cutting board, making it curl up nicely when eaten. Tuna marinated in soy sauce with ground sansho pepper on top. The flavor is enhanced. Homemade soy sauce-marinated salmon roe. There is sushi rice underneath. Whelk. The texture is irresistible. Edo-style slightly sweet omelet. I really like this. Conger eel. The cooking and searing are top-notch. I have tried eel at various restaurants, but the finishing here is among the best. Chawanmushi with pike conger and matsutake mushroom. Even though it's Edo-style, they seem to cater to the people of Kyoto, using a slightly sweet pickled ginger and vinegar for the sushi rice. There are no photos, but my wife had a hot watered-down shochu, and I had a whiskey with Shirasu water. They also served three types of sake, and we had a total of three drinks. The bill came to 21,300 yen. However you calculate it, there seems to be a discount of about 1,200 yen, so it was a profitable night. Of course, it's a place I will definitely visit again. This review is quoted from my blog.

At the sushi restaurant Higokyu in front of Bukkoji Temple, you can choose from three takeout options on weekdays, one of which is the Anago Bento for 1,200 yen. The fluffy Anago goes well with the rice and is incredibly delicious! They also offer Maguro Don and Uni Ikura Don on weekends, which I would love to try. The sushi courses they offer during regular business hours are also very delicious. I can't wait to visit this restaurant again.
