I think the sightseeing in Shimizu is reasonable and good. The shops around here are quite touristy and the prices are very high, so it's nice to be able to eat decent food at a relatively fair price. However, the restaurant was messy and dirty, giving off a lack of motivation at first. The serving time for the food was slightly slow, but since we were the only customers, it was tolerable. The dishes served were very delicious, especially the hamburger which looked beautiful and had tasty sauce. You can eat good quality meat at a reasonable price, so overall I recommend it. The sliced onions with skin that came as a side dish were particularly delicious. They explained that the whole onion was baked in the oven, which condensed the flavor. It was disappointing to see that there were not many customers when we visited, considering we are still in the midst of the pandemic.

Today, I wanted to eat "steak" and decided to try out the restaurant "Goutez!" that I had been curious about. The location is 101 Tatsumicho, Higashiyama-ku, Kyoto City, located between Yasaka Street and Shimizu Street (Matsubara Street) on Higashioji Street. As I entered the first floor, I noticed the owner's yellow motorcycle that he uses for commuting. He seems to be a fan of motorcycles and racing, even racing at Suzuka Circuit!
The first floor of the restaurant has 14 seats with 7 two-seater tables, and there are also seats on the second floor. I ordered:
- "Beef Sirloin Steak (200g)" for 2300 yen
- "Carlsberg (draft beer)" for 600 yen
The beef sirloin steak was served with medium rare sirloin, crispy bacon, spinach, potato salad, soft-cooked daikon, and grilled onions on the plate. The sirloin was tender and juicy, with a good flavor that paired well with the steak sauce. It was quite satisfying for the price and portion size.
I also tried dipping baguette in the black tapenade sauce, which was delicious. I also enjoyed the Carlsberg beer from Denmark, which had a pleasant clean bitterness and a mild malty flavor.
Overall, I was very satisfied with the delicious steak and tapenade sauce provided by Restaurant "Goutez!" The owner was kind and attentive, and I look forward to visiting again. Thank you for the great experience!

When it comes to eating French cuisine in Kyoto, the first place that comes to mind for me is Gouté. I must have visited at least 10 times already. While Kyoto has many good French restaurants, many of them are quickly featured in magazines and can be crowded with tourists. In contrast, Gouté is a rare gem where you can enjoy authentic French cuisine in a calm atmosphere. The husband and wife who run the restaurant provide attentive service, and the value for money is exceptional. The desserts are also delicious without fail. Personally, I love the soufflé and grapefruit pudding. When you feel like having French cuisine in Higashiyama, I highly recommend Gouté.

The most recent visit was on a hot day in August. I had some errands in the Higashiyama area, so before that, I stopped by this restaurant near Kiyomizu-michi bus stop for lunch. They offer various meat dishes. Last time, I enjoyed the rabbit meat dish, but this time I chose the salmon and avocado tartare salad as an appetizer and the sautéed quail with lentils as the main course. The sight of the quail dish when it arrived made me feel grateful. But it was delicious. This restaurant is located in a good location for a stop during a visit to Kiyomizu-dera temple. Lunch starts from around 1200 yen. I will also include the menu from last year when I visited. I went for lunch, but they also offer a 3600 yen course menu for dinner, including appetizer, main course, and dessert. The meat dishes were impressive, making it hard to choose. Some options from the 3600 yen course menu were pan-fried sea bass with white wine cream sauce, roasted lamb loin with herb flavor, roasted duck breast from France, stuffed pig trotter stew, roasted rabbit loin wrapped in bacon with mustard sauce, roasted pigeon with rosemary flavor, braised beef cheek and breaded beef stomach, beef fillet steak with truffle Madeira sauce. For appetizers, they had braised lamb sweetbreads in a pie case, Burgundy-style escargot, foie gras terrine and duck breast salad, sautéed beef stomach in Lyon style, grilled salmon and scallops, country-style pâté with prosciutto. Plus, you could choose two items from other options.

When you go to Kyoto, be sure to visit this shop ◎ It's really cheap. You'll be impressed by the quality! The main meat dishes are indeed fantastic as everyone has mentioned, but my favorite is the escargot! Escargot buried in garlic butter is irresistible... Wine goes down quite easily with the appetizers ◎ And the olive anchovy paste that comes with the bread (*^o^*) was so delicious that I ended up asking for more bread (lol) I even asked the wife for the recipe. It's also nice that you can enjoy a conversation with the couple ★ You must visit at least once ★ By the way, the amazing grapefruit pudding is worth reserving in advance ◎ *Additional note* The reason why there are fewer stars for lunch is because the time it took for the food to be served was too long. Since it's run by just the couple, it's understandable, but I couldn't help feeling anxious about my sightseeing plans and Shinkansen schedule. I realized that it's better to enjoy a leisurely dinner at Gute ◎

It's been a while since I revisited this restaurant. The food is still exceptional (especially the meat dishes!). However, I wonder why it's so empty. I think it's because the food takes too long to be served. We made a lunch reservation and arrived shortly after opening. We were the only customers. Bread and olive pate were served, but it took 40 minutes for the first appetizer to arrive. Why is that? The owner kindly offered us more bread, but we were already full from eating three servings. However, the roasted lamb was perfect.

French regional cuisine? The flavors are rich. It's a quiet place that only tourists seem to visit. They specialize in meat dishes, but the pork was just okay. The lamb was delicious. It was fun to choose one dish each for appetizer and main course. The foie gras for appetizer and the baked tart for dessert were really tasty. The portion size was quite generous, so I thought it would be nice if they could lower the prices a bit. Overall, I might come back again.
