The restaurant is located in a very crowded area near Gion. Maybe it was just the crowd on that day, but it was really noisy during lunchtime on weekends. The menu is very extensive. The banana leaf-wrapped rice was very spicy. The fried banana was delicious.

A friend told me that they were going to perform live here, so I brought a mischievous friend and visited for the first time. It was my first time trying Indonesian cuisine, so I was curious about what it would be like. The restaurant is located just 5 meters north of Shijo-Karasuma, on the third floor of a mixed-use building on the west side. The restaurant is run by a couple, and has a very cozy atmosphere. Before entering the restaurant, you must take off your shoes. There are about 50 different dishes on the menu, all with photos and captions, but since it was my first time, I didn't know what to order. I asked them to recommend some dishes that would go well with alcohol, and decided to order those. The dishes that came out mostly matched the photos. The distinctive feature is the use of beans similar to Japanese soybeans and just the right amount of spices. Of course, we also tried dishes that didn't use spices. The prices range from about 500 to 700 yen, and all the dishes were quite generous in portion. Each dish was carefully prepared and delicious. In addition to the usual alcoholic beverages, they also had Indonesian beer and shochu, with the shochu having a sweet aroma. It had a smooth taste, so my friend and I were drinking it on the rocks, but after about three glasses, I looked at my friend's face and realized that they were looking a bit more drunk than usual. When I asked the owner about the alcohol content, it turned out to be 35 degrees! No wonder they were feeling it. We had a very enjoyable time with the lively performance of my noisy friend, the friendly conversation with the couple, delicious food, and drinks. Thank you very much. *By the way, the amount we paid this time includes a significant amount for alcohol. Normally, 2,000 to 3,000 yen would be more than enough.

Located just off Yamato Oji Street from Shijo Street, this Indonesian restaurant is a hidden gem that may be hard to find at first. It's on the third floor of a building, giving it a cozy and intimate atmosphere. When I visited, there was a live performance happening, and the regular customers seemed to enjoy the laid-back vibe created by the welcoming owner. Despite being a newcomer, I received friendly and attentive service. On Fridays, they offer a special deal on Nasi Champur, an Indonesian dish, for 1000 yen instead of the usual 1500 yen. I opted for the Ayam Gulai (800 yen), a coconut milk chicken curry, and the Udang Asam Pedas, a spicy shrimp soup. The curry, made with just the curry paste, can be upgraded to curry rice for an additional fee. The chicken was tender and flavorful. The shrimp soup, originally very spicy, was adjusted to a milder level for me. Even so, it had a delightful kick and tanginess that made me want more. With plenty of shrimp for 650 yen, it was a satisfying dish. I look forward to bringing friends along next time to share this hidden gem of a restaurant.

Located in the prime location of Gion, this Indonesian restaurant offers a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. Despite being in a nondescript building near the entrance of Gion, it is easy to find and access. Just a 2-minute walk from Keihan station and 5 minutes from Shijo Kawaramachi station, this restaurant stands out in the midst of overpriced and intimidating establishments in the area. On Fridays, they offer a special plate called Nasi Campur for only 1000 yen, making it a great option for a solo dinner on the weekends. The menu changes daily, providing a variety of options to explore. Vegetarians will be pleased to know that the restaurant can accommodate their preferences with delicious options. The chef prepares each dish with great care and attention to detail, despite the small kitchen space. Sitting at the cozy counter, you can engage in conversations with the owner and other regulars, making it a perfect spot for unwinding after a long day at work.

Located on the 3rd floor of a building in Gion Nawate, you'll find this Balibari Indonesia. I've been going there for about 2 years now. Ever since my trip to Bali, I've been hooked on Balinese cuisine and after searching all over Kyoto, I found that Balibari Indonesia has the closest taste to the authentic flavors of Bali. The seasoning of the sambal sauce and the depth of flavor within the spiciness got me addicted. I visit them twice a month.
