Ukumaru "Game Restaurant" for Dinner
This day was a small business meeting over dinner. It's about a 7-minute walk from Karasuma Station to the "Game Restaurant." A friend recommended it recently, and we decided to visit. The restaurant has a cozy atmosphere with a counter for 6 seats and 2 table sets. The stylish game dishes blend surprisingly well with the traditional Japanese setting. The master, who trained in France, runs the place single-handedly. He is an interesting and talkative person, surprisingly young, so be sure to ask him about his experiences. We opted for the Chef's Choice Game Course this day. While there is also an a la carte menu, we decided to go with the Chef's choice when making the reservation. We enjoyed venison as the main dish, along with boar, lamb, duck, softshell turtle, and other game meats. If you provide a budget, they will likely accommodate your preferences. With four drinks each, it came to about 30,000 yen for the two of us. The meal included dishes like spring rolls with cloud ear mushrooms, game meat pate, black beer braised boar neck, chilled onion soup, lamb shoulder roast, venison roast, and a trio of softshell turtle, boar, and jumbo nameko mushrooms. The meal was accompanied by a variety of drinks, including Italian wine, Japanese sake, and grappa for tasting. We thoroughly enjoyed the game dishes.
