I was searching for dinner options and found a place where I could consult about course meals. I had originally reserved a seasonal meal for 4,500 yen, but they recommended a different lineup for me. When I made the reservation, I had chosen a different branch of the same restaurant, but since there were only smoking seats available and both my guest and I couldn't stand the smell of smoke, we changed it to the Gion Shinbashi store in the non-smoking section. Upon entering the restaurant, we had to take off our shoes. We were then guided to our seats on the first floor, which only had 8 seats. The seats were arranged in an L shape, with a chef preparing the dishes in front of us. On the large L-shaped table, there were various side dishes recommended for the day, known as "obanzai" in Kyoto. From Kyoto's representative oden to a variety of side dishes, there was a lot to enjoy. The course I enjoyed allowed me to savor Kyoto cuisine, so I tried almost everything on the table. The first dish was an appetizer with yuzu-flavored taro and pumpkin, which I couldn't replicate living alone. The second dish was sashimi with yellowtail, squid, salmon, and sea bream, beautifully arranged with daikon leaves resembling a shining sun. The third dish was grilled salmon, which was prepared boneless and delicious. The fourth dish was a set of obanzai, including shirako, a fancy potato salad, Kyoto's signature dish called "nishin nasu," and delicious hijiki. The fifth dish was tempura, with large shrimp, Kyoto carrot, and shirako, served with salt instead of tempura sauce, a high-end traditional style. The sixth dish was oden, with daikon, thick fried tofu, and another red hanpen-like ingredient. The broth was light and tasty. The seventh dish was sea bream rice, served in a clay pot and accompanied by miso soup and pickles. The rice had a great texture with small pieces of radish mixed in. Finally, dessert was jelly with sauce, a visually appealing and delicious way to end the meal. Despite feeling full halfway through, the chef's explanations of each dish made me feel like I would miss out if I didn't eat it all. The non-smoking section allowed me to enjoy the meal in a relaxed manner. This restaurant with few reviews is a hidden gem for those who want to experience Kyoto cuisine. If you want to enjoy Kyoto cuisine, I highly recommend visiting this place.

You can enjoy a calm atmosphere and Kyoto-style cuisine here. I visited on a holiday night and it was fully booked with reservations. For a reservation for two, you will be seated at the counter on the first floor. As soon as you enter the restaurant, you can smell the delicious aroma of oden. We opted for the 5,000 yen course, and all the dishes were very tasty. (The photo shows part of the course) As an adult male, I found the portion a bit small, but it was nice that I could enjoy the food until the end. I would like to visit again.

I took my two children with me. Although there were no tables available, we were offered a spot at the L-shaped counter, where the staff kindly entertained the kids. I brought my nephew, a hungry college student, and felt that the portions were a bit small, so we ordered additional items. The dishes were all delicious, and we enjoyed seasonal ingredients. Overall, we were satisfied. I think this place might be more suitable for a dinner for two adults. I would like to visit again with my husband next time.

We used it for our honeymoon trip. There is a possibility that you cannot enter without a reservation. This time, we were guided to our seats with a time limit. I really wanted to eat oden, so I visited the restaurant, and the taste did not disappoint. It was very delicious. I would like to use it again.

Recently, I noticed that there are more oden (Japanese hot pot) restaurants popping up, and I became curious about the trend of Kyoto-style oden. So, I decided to visit a restaurant that focuses on oden, called Kiyomizu, which has branches in Kyoto. I tried their unique menu items such as halfbeak sashimi, oden with tea broth, oden broth ochazuke (rice with tea), grilled udon noodles, and tendon curry. The menu was enjoyable and interesting. They also have a good selection of Kyoto-inspired alcoholic drinks. The flavors were gentle and Kyoto-style, with condiments like yuzu kosho (yuzu pepper paste), grated daikon radish, and mustard to add extra flavor. The restaurant has a casual izakaya-style atmosphere with an open floor layout. I didn't have to worry about crowded spaces. It was delicious!

I went to the izakaya Kiyomizu in Gion with my friends. We ordered various dishes like three kinds of potato salad, sashimi, and grilled fish from the counter. The assortment of side dishes had many different types, so we were able to enjoy a variety of flavors. However, some dishes were too bland or too strong in taste. I wish each dish had a bit more attention to detail in its flavor profile.

In the midst of the pandemic, I think everyone in the food industry is facing great challenges. I want to continue enjoying delicious food while following the rules and not letting my guard down, so I held a banquet at this restaurant. With 10 dishes for 3500 yen, which is an unbelievable price in Gion, the atmosphere of the renovated machiya alone is worth the price. The dishes served were truly a feast, and the sashimi was satisfying. The main course and dessert were influenced by the price, but that's to be expected, and overall, I think the cost performance is excellent. I hope they continue to do their best. Thank you for the wonderful meal.
