I went last week without a reservation and was turned away because they were fully booked, so this time I made a reservation for revenge. When I arrived, there was a sign on the door saying they were fully booked (they had it up last week too). When I opened the door, I took off my shoes in the entrance, and climbed the narrow stairs typical of a machiya (traditional Japanese townhouse) to the second floor. The table seats had a spacious layout and good lighting. The food was delicious, especially the corn tempura and mushrooms. The female staff member who recommended the drinks was great. The only downside was that smoking was allowed. Personally, I found that disappointing. I would like to sit at the counter next time and enjoy a drink.

Well, tonight I went to a restaurant in Kyoto. Some reviews mentioned that the location of the restaurant was hard to find, but nowadays you can pretty much go anywhere with Google Maps, and that's how I found it. However, if you approach from the north, there was a sign saying "Private property..." at the entrance. I had some business to attend to, so I just trusted Google Maps and made it there safely. I didn't check the south side though. But I think the restaurant is worth a visit. From the fresh oysters I had at the beginning to the grilled chicken at the end, everything was delicious. It was a shame that I missed out on the grilled striped jack due to a small misunderstanding. The menu included fresh oysters, grilled eggplant wrapped in prosciutto, spring rolls with soft-boiled eggs, daikon simmered with beef tendons, sake, fried daikon, myoga tempura, and grilled chicken with salt. The prices were also reasonable.

■Visit Date: July 6, 2022 ■Received Items: Refer below ■MEMO Cheers with a refreshing Heineken draft beer in the midst of summer while enjoying delicious dishes. I got so caught up in the conversation that I forgot to take photos of the dishes... The photos are of corn tempura and soft-boiled egg spring rolls. The crispy corn tempura had a perfect flavor and the sweetness of the corn, making it a great match with the beer. The soft-boiled egg spring rolls were also delicious, with a crispy spring roll skin and a creamy, seasoned soft-boiled egg inside. I was able to enjoy many delicious dishes.

■ The Trigger for Visiting: I was intrigued by the restaurant being featured in the magazine "meets." ■ Atmosphere: Located a 5-minute walk from Shijo-Karasuma, I was surprised to find such a narrow alleyway in the area. Even locals might overlook it on the map due to its slimness. However, there are several dining establishments lined up, creating a very pleasant and calm atmosphere. The counter has 8 seats and there is a tatami room on the second floor. The counter area is quite spacious. The interior and exterior are both clean and well-maintained. ■ Cuisine: The menu is extensive. I first ordered the mentaiko (spicy cod roe) potato, and it arrived in a generous portion. The taste is gentle and the price is surprisingly only 300 yen. I was drawn to the blue cheese fondue and ordered it, as did others. It indeed had depth and richness, and was delicious for 780 yen. Not everything is cheap though, as the salad is priced at 980 yen, which may seem unexpectedly high but likely due to the quality of ingredients. ■ Drinks: They offer a variety of typical drinks such as wine, cocktails, shochu, and sake. Sake includes popular brands like Tateyama and Kikusui, with about 5 types available for around 800 yen per serving. The glass of wine is in the 600 yen range and comes in a generous portion. ■ Service: The staff are calm and create a reassuring atmosphere even on a busy Friday night. Despite being nearly full, there was no sense of chaos, making it a comfortable experience. ■ Cost-Performance: Reasonable. ■ Overall: The prime location is the standout feature. A hidden alleyway in a super convenient location. I would definitely like to visit again.

This restaurant is located near the station but in a somewhat hard-to-find place, so you can usually get in without a reservation. However, if you're specifically coming for this restaurant, a reservation is a must. They serve Heineken for draft beer, as well as wine, shochu, sake, cocktails, and more, so you won't have trouble finding something to drink no matter who you're with. The menu offers a variety of Japanese and Western dishes, so you can enjoy a wide range of options. The ramen at the end of the meal was also delicious. Even when we ordered just one, it came out divided into two portions for the two of us, which was really nice. We usually order the popular blue cheese fondue here. On this day, I ended up ordering the same dish as the customer next to me (laughs). With such a diverse menu, I'll definitely be visiting again soon!

After a tiring 2-hour hike up Fushimi Inari Taisha, I checked into the New Miyako Hotel with my body feeling worn out. The room had a LAN connection, which was great. After taking a shower, I went out to find dinner. I decided to go to "Ufufu Bis" in Kawaramachi based on a recommendation in a guidebook. The restaurant had a hidden and mysterious exterior, making it hard to see inside. It was nestled in a slightly secluded area. I called ahead just to be safe and managed to get a table for the evening. It turned out to be a fantastic restaurant with a cozy atmosphere that appealed to both women and older patrons. The food was delicious, especially the grilled beef, and I ended up ordering seconds. I also enjoyed two bottles of wine and eventually passed out from exhaustion. Despite overspending a bit due to the quality of the food and drinks, I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Kyoto. It's a place I would frequent regularly if I lived nearby. Just keep in mind that the amount spent may seem extravagant to some, especially for tourists.

I have been visiting this place since it was in Kiyamachi, and now that it has moved to Karasuma, I sometimes stop by alone when I feel like having a drink. It can be a bit difficult to explain the location to someone unfamiliar, like around the back of Kishi-san's place, haha. The first floor has only a counter with about 8 seats, while the second floor has table seating for around 20 people. There are no backrests on the chairs, which can be tough for older people like me, but the trendy atmosphere is appreciated by younger customers. Surprisingly, it's quite nice, and adults also seem to frequent the place. My favorite dishes are daikon tempura, spring rolls with half-cooked egg, and this season's duck and Negi onion hot pot.

After wandering around for about 30 minutes, I finally found it... Why did they make it in such a hard-to-find place? But once I entered, the atmosphere was nice! It had an elegant machiya-style design. I went with another woman, so we were seated at the counter on the first floor. The food was good, recommended by a cool older guy who kindly guided us. The service was great too, with the staff being attentive and the cool older guys cooking engaging in pleasant conversations. It's a hidden gem because it's so hard to find! Not many people may know about it, so it's definitely a great spot for a date!!... I'll go with my female colleague after work, though (lol).

It is located in a very hard-to-find place. It's the kind of place you want to show off that you know about. However, the taste of the food is just average... It's good, but not mind-blowing (sorry). The atmosphere is nice though, so I think it's a good place to go with your significant other.

A friend took me to this restaurant, which is located in a position that you would never find if you didn't know about it. Directions: 1. Turn east on Karasuma Ayakoji and enter the side road next to the parking lot on the south side of the pharmacy. Pass by the gallery and another restaurant, then turn into a short alley (visible from the corner). 2. Turn east on Karasuma Bukkoji and enter the side road on the north side of the townhouse (antique kimono shop?) heading north. Turn into a short alley. We entered before 7 pm, but by around 8 pm, the place started to get crowded with people mostly coming after work. The interior of the restaurant, which seems to be a renovated townhouse, has a softly lit and serene atmosphere. It's a place where 2-4 people can quietly enjoy their meal. The cuisine leans towards creative dishes with a Japanese touch, including sashimi, pizza, and pasta. The menu seems to be updated daily, with dishes like edamame croquettes, bamboo shoot tofu dumplings, and daikon tempura. The restaurant seems to excel in vegetable dishes. When I visited, there were various bamboo shoot recipes available. Although the cooking methods themselves are not unusual, the combination of ingredients and cooking methods is quite interesting. The seasoning is mainly based on dashi and soy sauce flavors. I'm not a drinker, but according to my friend, they have a good selection of drinks. Considering the atmosphere, I don't think it's an expensive restaurant.

It was a place I don't usually go to, and I was a bit anxious about whether it was really here based on the atmosphere around me until I arrived. I had made a reservation and was seated on the second floor. The atmosphere was stylish and definitely a shop that women would love! The food was delicious, and I think a girl would be happy if you took her on a date here. I liked the atmosphere, and on a later visit without a reservation, there were times when it was full and we couldn't get in, so I recommend making a reservation before going.

You can't see this shop from the main street at all, so it's not immediately obvious. When you go down a nearby alley, you'll find it tucked away there. The interior is clean and calm, with a nice atmosphere. The counter is spacious, so you can relax. The food was delicious. Overall, it has a Japanese feel, but the pasta I had at the end was surprisingly tasty! It seemed like it was made on the spot or as a daily special, but I definitely want to eat it again!
