I thought the spice curry was delicate, complex, and amazing. It was authentic and easy to eat, and delicious. The spacious and relaxing atmosphere of the restaurant was lovely. They have a counter so it's easy for solo diners to enter! It was convenient to have tissues at each table. We aimed to go at the opening time of 11:00 on a holiday and we were able to get in smoothly, but there was already a line forming 30 minutes later.
- Eggplant tomato chicken curry (¥1,180) + Cheese (¥170)
- Spiciness level: 3, Regular rice portion (250g)
They recommended spiciness level 3, and it was quite spicy but delicious. Being able to adjust the amount of rice is nice. The curry has a strong presence of grated onions, with a whole one placed in, so it seems quite healthy. The vegetables paired perfectly with the curry, making a beautiful presentation. The chicken was tender and ideal. Adding cheese as a topping allowed for a milder flavor, which was enjoyable. Thanks to the spices, my stomach felt warm for a while afterwards.

Surprisingly, there are hidden gem restaurants nearby if you look for them. I stumbled upon a place called "Curry Kusamakura" while walking near Shinjuku Gyoen. It's located on the second floor of a mixed-use building. It seemed sketchy at first, but after looking it up, I found out it has really high ratings. I had to check it out. I went in and was amazed. Despite the daunting atmosphere with a mysterious owner running a small counter with about 8 seats, as soon as I opened the door, the spacious interior was bustling with dozens of customers. The staff, mostly young women, were working efficiently. The kitchen was open, and the large windows let in sunlight. The place was filled with the aroma of spices. I was seated at the counter and shown the menu. They had basically one type of curry with the option to add toppings. You could choose your spice level from 1 to 10. They recommended level 3 for enjoying the spice, but suggested 5 for those who are used to spice. The owner himself eats levels 6 to 8. I decided on the Eggplant, Tomato, Chicken Curry with level 4 spice. The curry arrived promptly. The curry had a firm texture with just the right amount of spice. It was a different kind of spice, filling my nasal passages with a refreshing scent. It must have a lot of different spices in it, creating a complex yet well-balanced flavor. It went well with the rice, and I couldn't stop eating. It was a great experience, enjoying a spicy curry on a sweaty summer day. I couldn't help but wonder why I hadn't visited this place sooner.

Our family curry department. Today, we went on an expedition to the city. The restaurant we had planned to go to was closed for the holiday, so we quickly changed direction and ended up here. When we entered the restaurant, there were many female staff members who seemed like literary girls. It was nice to have them explain everything to us as we ate. You can specify the amount of rice and curry sauce, which is great. I had the eggplant chicken curry with fermented butter, and my wife had the tomato chicken curry with chickpeas on top. We arrived after 2pm, but the place was quite crowded. However, the staff took our order as soon as we entered, so the food came out quickly after we sat down. Now, taking a bite... Delicious! I can't quite put my finger on it, but one spice stands out – a refreshing spice. Could it be cardamom? I ordered a level 5 spiciness, and it started off mild but gradually built up heat, making me sweat from my forehead and back by the end. My wife, who ordered a level 3 spiciness, was also sweating, which was rare for her. Even half a day later, my stomach still felt warm. This is true spiced curry. I was a bit worried about my wife's tomato chicken curry being too tomatoey, but the natural tomato flavor just complemented it without overwhelming. The chickpeas added a nice texture, blending softness and firmness perfectly. The lassi for 290 yen was affordable and not overly sweet, making it a genuine treat. Afterward, I lay on the grass in front of Shinjuku Gyoen and felt the autumn equinox breeze. As the saying goes, "expect miracles", I was instantly inspired and immersed in a poetic atmosphere. Bravo!

I visited for lunch. It had been crowded recently so I couldn't get in, but this time I was able to. I had the Tomato Chicken Curry. The curry with strong spices was delicious and addictive. I also received a free lassi coupon, so I want to go back again soon.

Lunch on 09/20 (Thursday) ... curry Grass pillow ... Soybeans, chickpeas, and tomato for 1,100 yen, Lassi for 290 yen, discount ▲100 yen ... paid in cash ... Good customer service, fast service, delicious taste, cold water served, good portion size, good value for money, nice restaurant environment ... It was a well-balanced dish that tasted delicious, but I got burned inside my mouth because I ate it too eagerly. The taste of the Lassi was just right with a good balance of dairy and acidity.

I arrived a little before the opening time of 11:00 and there was already a couple waiting. The staff prompted us to come in as they flipped the sign, and we made our way up the narrow staircase to enter the restaurant. The menu had various options based on chicken curry, and I decided to try the Nastomat chicken curry with spiciness level 4 and less rice. I also ordered a lassi, which arrived promptly and was delicious with its smooth yogurt flavor. I was a bit worried about the order mix-up because my call name was "Eggplant," but thankfully I received the correct Nastomat chicken curry. I added some Fukujinzuke to my rice and started to eat. Hmm... I felt like the curry lacked flavor and spices, unlike the usual Indian curry. Maybe it's just me, but I also couldn't taste the sweetness of the onions that should be in the base. The fried eggplant was tasty, and even the warm cherry tomatoes were good. The curry sauce, on the other hand, left me feeling a bit disappointed. The spiciness level 4 was decently hot, and I broke out in a sweat. As I tried to leave the restaurant, I noticed that the waiting area was full, showing how popular the place must be. I didn't quite understand the hype, but the calm demeanor of the staff made the dining experience comfortable. It's good to have reassuring service.

Near Shinjuku Gyoen, there is a curry restaurant that is part of a popular chain, known for their healthy spice curry that does not contain any wheat flour. The photo shows the Chicken Curry (1100 yen) with an added cheese topping (190 yen) and a smaller portion of rice (-30 yen). The spiciness level chosen was 8 out of 10. This curry is classified as "shaba-style" as it does not use curry roux, with a strong emphasis on spice flavors. Even for someone who is accustomed to spicy food like myself, the level 8 was quite spicy. The ingredients were simple, mainly consisting of chicken thigh meat pieces similar in size to salad chicken portions. Personally, I prefer richer European-style curries like Bondi curry, so this curry may not be suitable for those seeking bold flavors. The texture and style could be likened more to Ethiopian curry. While I do not plan on revisiting, it was a carefully crafted curry dish.

Located right in between Onyu Station and Sanchome Station, this curry restaurant is situated on the second floor of a mixed-use building, making it slightly hard to find. The interior of the restaurant resembles a cozy cafe, with a relaxed atmosphere set by the easygoing owner. The menu is not extensive but focuses on chicken curry with options like tomato curry and eggplant curry. Customers can customize their curry toppings and portion sizes to suit their preferences. I ordered the eggplant and chicken curry along with a lassi. Weekdays offer a 100 yen discount, making the total cost 1000 yen flat. The curry soup was served first, a unique broth with a light base, noticeable onion richness, and a blend of various spices, which added to its originality. The rice used is a pesticide-reduced brand called "Ochi no Hoshi," providing a chewy and hearty texture. The eggplant was surprisingly flavorful and not overpowered by the curry, while the lassi was gently sweet and helped soothe the lingering spiciness. I opted for the recommended medium-spicy level (3 out of 5), and it was enough to make me sweat a bit but not overpoweringly so. Upon payment, I received a complimentary lassi voucher for my next visit along with a candy, which was a nice touch.

Visited the top 100 curry shop of 2019, 2020, and 2022 on a Tuesday around 8:15 PM. Located on the 2nd floor up a narrow staircase. Upon opening the door, the space was surprisingly spacious. Found a seat at the counter. Everything looked tempting, but this time ordered the recommended dish:
- Eggplant Chicken Curry for 1,100 yen (spiciness level 3, regular rice)
- Weekday discount -100 yen
Total: 1,000 yen
The dish arrived in less than 5 minutes. The soup was piping hot! Even at spice level 3, it was quite intense! But delicious! Eggplant was sweet, and the chicken was tender and flavorful. Rice was portioned well to match the curry. Be careful, it's a genuine spicy curry. Thank you for the meal!

After visiting Isetan, I decided to go to a curry restaurant for lunch. It was after 11 o'clock and most of the restaurants were open, so I quickly went to a curry restaurant where I could get a table. It seemed like a soup curry specialty restaurant, but I wanted to add some vegetables, so I ordered the Eggplant Tomato Chicken Curry with extra cheese. I also ordered a lassi drink. The food arrived in 5 minutes. The curry had a light taste but was quite spicy and hard to eat without the lassi. The cheese was in a ball shape, I wish it was sliced. I think it would have been better if they had melted the cheese on top even if it cost a little more. When I paid, I received a free drink voucher. If you want to save money, it's better to go for a milder level of spiciness. Now, I'm off to the next restaurant!

The spiciness was just right, not too spicy but still delicious. I ordered chicken tomato curry, but my friend ordered chicken and eggplant curry, and the grilled eggplant looked really delicious (highly recommended). The lassi probably didn't have sugar in it, but it was like thick yogurt and tasted great.

Seating: There's no formal line, so you can smoothly come in and it gets crowded later.
Order: I ordered the Eggplant Tomato Chicken Curry Level 6 spiciness. The spiciness was just right. It might be even better with a higher level of spiciness. The eggplant was delicious, the chicken was plentiful and tasty, and the onions added a nice touch. Overall, it's a classic curry. I will definitely try other types of curry in the future. By the way, you need to take the stairs to get to the restaurant.

I stopped by a ramen shop nearby, but they had already finished distributing entry tickets for the day. I chose this place instead, which is also nearby and had a high rating on Tabelog. The seating arrangement was spacious and comfortable. The curry here has a spiciness level ranging from 1 to 10, and I went with the recommended level 3. I didn't think it was that spicy, but strangely enough, I couldn't stop sweating. The price was reasonable, but I felt the rating on Tabelog was a bit too high. However, since the food was delicious, it was okay.

Eggplant Chicken Curry with spiciness level 9, extra rice. Weekday discount of 100 yen off, total cost 1000 yen. This curry has a standard spice blend but also something a bit unique, different from typical Indian curries. As a fan of spicy curry, I appreciate the option to add extra spiciness for free. Level 9 provides a strong spicy kick without being overwhelming. The chicken portion is a bit small, but the eggplant pairs well with the spicy flavors. It's delicious and satisfying. The rice is also very tasty. I left feeling full. Additionally, they give a free lassi coupon at checkout.

I don't usually eat curry outside because I'm used to the taste of home-cooked curry and I find it delicious. Even though I don't like spicy food, I decided to give it a try. I walked up the stairs to the second floor of the restaurant. I ordered a curry with soybeans, chickpeas, and tomatoes, with a spice level of 0.5 and less rice. The restaurant offers spice levels from 1 to 5, and I chose the least spicy option. The beans were cooked perfectly, with a nice texture. The curry was spicy but tasty. They provided a fan in front of me, and I wiped off the sweat with a towel while enjoying the spice. Eating curry outside isn't so bad after all.

There was no line at 6:30 pm on a weekday. You can choose the level of spiciness. For those who are not good with spicy food, even 0.5 spiciness should be fine, but since it uses a lot of onions, it's not that spicy. At 0.5 spiciness, you can feel a lot of sweetness. The rice can be served in a large portion for free. I would definitely want to visit again when I go to Shinjuku. They also gave me pineapple candies and a service voucher on the way out.

Curry Top 100 Restaurants 2022. I visited on a Tuesday at 1:15 pm, and the seating rate was about 50%. It seems pretty empty, perhaps due to the rain that was falling until recently. I looked at the menu and ordered the Eggplant Chicken Curry. When asked about the spiciness level, I saw that you could choose from 1 to 10. I was thinking of choosing around 3-4, but the staff told me that 1 was about medium spiciness. So, I said, "Medium spice, please." It seems like a pretty spicy place. The curry arrived in about 5 minutes, with beautifully arranged eggplants and a big piece of chicken. The eggplant was tender, and the chicken was deliciously juicy. Upon tasting the curry, it was indeed quite spicy, but I was glad I chose 1! Usually, even if it's initially spicy, you get used to it, but here the initial spiciness continues. Thanks to choosing level 1, I was able to enjoy it. The lunch price was discounted by 100 yen, so it was exactly 1,000 yen. I was able to pay with PayPay. After paying, they gave me a Lassi service voucher and a candy. Next time, I'll raise the spiciness level since there will be Lassi... maybe to level 2 with just one step up. The person next to me who came later ordered 7, I wonder how spicy that must be.

Due to work-related reasons, I searched for delicious restaurants around East Shinjuku on Tabelog. The top-ranked ones were all high-priced restaurants, so I skipped them and came across a soup curry place. I decided to go try it out. When I entered the restaurant alone, I was surprised to see many other solo diners as well. I was torn between ordering the chicken curry and the shrimp curry. Since it was my first time there, I opted for the safe choice of chicken, but I love shrimp! In the end, I chose the shrimp curry. The shrimp was tender and the cherry tomatoes were hot, giving off a condensed sweetness. I chose a spice level of 3. The soup had a lighter shrimp flavor than expected. The balance of flavors, including the pickles, was excellent and the overall taste was great. I didn't mind the spiciness too much, but for some reason, I couldn't stop sweating. It might have been because of the spices. The weather was humid and hot, so it felt like being in a sauna. Next time, I will try the chicken curry and have the complimentary lassi with the service voucher.

I visited a popular spice curry restaurant in Shinjuku where there is always a line. I ordered the Eggplant Chicken Tomato Curry. It was said to be onion-based and flour-free curry. My impression after tasting it is that it has a complex flavor, but it's a roughly spicy curry that makes you sweat. The staff was kind and the atmosphere was comfortable.

I love soup curry, so I checked this place out! I had the Nastikin with cheese topping, recommended spiciness level 3. It felt like a perfect balance between soup curry and regular curry, with a gentle and delicious taste that hits you after a few bites, making you go "yum!" Although it didn't have a strong initial impact, it was comforting and tasty as I continued eating. The only downside was that the restaurant was really hot inside. I don't feel a strong urge to go back, but I'm glad I tried it and it was decently delicious!

A curry restaurant near Shinjuku Station. Visited the restaurant when it opened for the night. ~Order~ Eggplant Chicken 1100 yen You can choose the spiciness level from 10 levels. Although the restaurant recommended level 3, I chose level 5. The curry, which does not use flour, had a thick vegetable texture but was quite watery. It had a soup curry-like image, like melted onions. Perhaps because I chose level 5 spiciness, the scent of spices was quite strong. Spices are often used in Chinese medicine, and the balance of scents felt more like "Chinese medicine" than "curry". The spiciness itself was mild, gradually felt afterwards. It might be more suited for those who are confident in handling spiciness to go a bit higher. Regarding the seasoning, all tastes - sweetness, saltiness, sourness, bitterness, umami - were mild. It was just right to eat with the pickles provided on the table, but personally, I felt it was slightly lacking. Hmm, it's not bad, but not my preference. However, it was full of ingredients for 1100 yen, with an additional 100 yen discount on weekdays. It may be worth trying once. Recommended for those who prefer lightly seasoned dishes. Thank you for the meal.
