In a deserted area during the pandemic, could a ray of hope shine through? As a lover of sake and udon, I had to visit this restaurant in Odaiba once I found out about it. It turned out to be a great surprise. I started with a Fukuoka sake called "Tanaka Roku Go." It had a soft acidity and aroma, very delicious. Next, I tried the "Assorted Tuna and Straw-Grilled Bonito Sashimi Bowl." The fish from Genkai Nada was so tasty, like something you'd get at a good sushi restaurant. The bonito with a hint of straw smoke was irresistible. I'd have preferred toppings like tempura or meat instead of mentaiko. The "Hakata Mentaiko Udon" was good, with a unique texture that was neither too firm nor too soft. The broth was smooth and flavorful, with just the right amount of saltiness. I hope this restaurant can bring some life to the area with its delicious food.

I stopped by during lunchtime! Located in a building, the restaurant was crowded with people working nearby. When I visited, there were a man and a woman working hard to serve customers. I had been here once before, but since I had traveled to Hakata this year, I ordered the tempura udon. The tempura was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, very delicious! The udon noodles were soft, complementing the flavorful tempura. I personally prefer this over the udon from Makino Udon in Fukuoka. I would like to come back during the evening to try some delicious Hakata street food!

I decided to have lunch around Tokyo Teleport Station. I chose to eat at an udon restaurant that had a tavern-like atmosphere. They had a selection of rice bowl dishes for lunch, and I chose the marinated tuna rice bowl. I just felt like having a marinated dish. Surprisingly, it came with a drink, so I chose iced oolong tea. The glass it came in was like a highball glass, which was a nice touch. Then, the marinated tuna rice bowl arrived. It looked decent and tasted good. I added wasabi mixed with soy sauce on top. The flavor was rich, typical of a marinated dish, making the rice very appetizing. It was a satisfying meal.

Hakata Udon Nomidokoro Ikki Shimomachi Izakaya Daiba Store @ Daiba, Minato-ku, Tokyo @ Izakaya Tokyo Located on the 2nd floor of the Daiba Frontier Building next to Suntory, just across the footbridge from Yurikamome Daiba Station in Odaiba, Tokyo. At 12:00, office workers in the building start to visit, and the restaurant quickly fills up. The interior has bench seat tables along the walls, tables by the windows, and box-type tables in the center. There is no counter seating. Acrylic boards are placed on the tables. The menu features Hakata-style izakaya dishes such as yakitori, pig trotters, sashimi, hosomaki rolls, horse sashimi, motsunabe, grilled dishes, teppanyaki, fried foods, side dishes, sukiyaki, udon, and more. We tried the following for two people: ■ Hakata Meat Udon 715 yen ■ Chikuwa Tempura 190 yen ■ Premium Tuna Assortment Set 1,500 yen The meat udon was generously topped with meat and wakame seaweed. It had soft Hakata-style udon noodles with a slightly sweet broth. The chikuwa tempura was a whole chikuwa, making quite an impression. The tuna set included otoro, chutoro, akami, and medium fatty tuna, as well as tuna collar. The salad was also generous in portion. The sashimi had a lot of impact, especially with the tuna collar, allowing you to truly enjoy tuna. However, the rice was a bit dry, and the tuna collar was a bit watery. But the sashimi was excellent! I thought it was amazing to be able to enjoy such thick and delicious tuna sashimi at this price. I entered the restaurant around 2 pm on a regular day. There was only one customer before me. They offer a free drink with lunch, which they ask you about first. They have rice bowl options, and you can get a large portion for free. Unfortunately, the beef stamina bowl was sold out, and the fried chicken bowl would take some time, so I ordered the large portion of parent and child bowl for 720 yen. It was served in about 10 minutes with two side dishes and miso soup. The large portion was quite filling, but the taste was decent. If this restaurant was near my workplace, I might stop by occasionally. I think the cost performance is relatively good.

In the midst of a state of emergency, I was working in Odaiba. It was difficult to find a restaurant in the area, as most were located inside shopping malls and there were very few individual stores open. After walking a couple of stations, I finally found this place - an izakaya specializing in Fukuoka udon. I ordered the curry udon with agodashi, and added some karaage on top. Although the menu mentioned a complimentary bowl of rice and a raw egg, they were not provided, but it was okay. I ordered a complimentary drink of oolong tea. The udon was soft, typical of Fukuoka udon, and while I didn't strongly taste the agodashi, there was a definite fish broth flavor. The karaage was large and flavorful. Overall, it was an average curry udon, but I was grateful that they were open for business in such circumstances.

The friendly staff provide great service. I can imagine it must be tough opening during these difficult times with the coronavirus. The hot pot we had for a party was delicious. This time, I had the udon without soup for lunch. It came with mentaiko, raw egg, and meat on top. I think it would be delicious even with soup.

I had a feeling that the chain udon restaurant on the second floor of the office building in front of Odaiba Kaihin Koen Station was closing down, and when I went for lunch, it was indeed closed. Instead, I found a Hakata-style izakaya offering udon for lunch. The udon menu included plain udon for 480 yen, zaru udon for 480 yen, wakame udon for 580 yen, kitsune udon for 600 yen, tempura udon for 600 yen, and burdock tempura and meat udon for 820 yen, among others. The set meals with a bowl were priced at 980 yen. I ordered the most popular Hakata meat udon for 700 yen, which arrived in just 4 minutes. The tray came with a ladle for self-service, and there were alcohol wipes for hand sanitizing near the entrance, not on the table. I used chopsticks and enjoyed the meat udon, which was appropriately sweet and delicious for being the most popular dish within just a few days of opening. The udon had wakame seaweed and was not too soft for Hakata udon, making it enjoyable. I finished my meal in less than 10 minutes, and there was a group of chatting female customers, but we maintained social distance and avoided close contact.

I came to eat Hakata udon during lunch hours. I chose the mentaiko udon and enjoyed the delicious broth very much.

A new udon restaurant opened in a building in Odaiba after Kineya. The udon menu is smaller than the previous udon restaurant, but it is a delicious Hakata udon shop. Looking forward to improvements in speed of service in the future!

It was quite crowded and the food took a while to come out, but the sashimi was delicious. The horse sashimi was also tasty. They have a variety of alcohol options as well, and I would like to try the motsunabe next time.

When I entered the restaurant, families were standing out due to it being a holiday. The atmosphere was more suited for salarymen stopping by for a drink after work, which was nice.
