Visited the curry restaurant with strong individuality for the third time. Visited on Saturday at 12:20, entered at 13:10. Located in a low-rise building to the right after crossing the Meguro River on Gotanda Ohashi from the west exit of Gotanda Station. The interior has only counter seats, about 10 seats in total, resembling a ramen shop. The atmosphere is similar to a ramen shop with strong personality. Orders are taken by the owner when they come to you. The rules are written on the super unique homepage of the shop. The customers are mostly male. The menu consists of curry dishes and toppings only. The only drink available is water. The curries offered include seasonal limited soup curry, which this time was "Early Summer." There are also regular spicy soup curry (spicy) and medium-spicy thick curry (medium spicy).
What I ate:
- Seasonal soup curry (Early Summer)
- Spicy minced meat
The "Early Summer" seasonal soup curry features plenty of shishito peppers, pork belly, and cherry tomatoes. Each flavor has soaked into the curry – the bitterness of shishito peppers, the umami of pork belly, the acidity of tomatoes. The addition of minced meat topping enhances the umami even further, making it incredibly enjoyable. The flavors complement each other perfectly! It's hard to explain why I like it so much, but I really love it. The first time I had it at this shop was during the "Early Summer" season, and it left a strong impression on me, so I've been eagerly waiting for this curry to come back in season! It took me over two years to have it again... I want to come back again during this season!

September. Autumn Soup Curry with Shimeji mushrooms, Maitake mushrooms, and ground chicken. You can really feel the autumn vibes in this soup curry! As for the Premium option, it includes autumn mushroom soup curry with plum and myoga. Of course, I went with the Premium option. My wife is currently avoiding mushrooms, so she ordered the Basil Pork. We both added spicy ground meat and cheese toppings. It may sound repetitive, but the seasonal soup curries (including the Premium option) are all delicious month after month. Even the classic Basil Pork is outstanding. We split our time between Yugawara and Tokyo, and coming to Tokyo just to visit this place is totally worth it! Absolutely worth it. Looking forward to next month!! (The seasonal soup curry for September and October is the same, but they might have some slight variations in flavor. Once again, please make sure to check the "Curry no Mise Udon" website before visiting.)

It's still hot, but when the season changes from bitter gourd to myoga, you can really feel the autumn approaching. The Premium Udon at Udon-san, which captures the seasonal feeling, is a must-eat. The September Premium [shiitake mushrooms, enoki mushrooms, pickled plums, myoga, minced meat] with less rice is 1600 yen. First, enjoy it with your eyes. The fresh and crunchy myoga topping may make beginners think "Myoga in curry?!" but when combined with the soup, the texture and flavor blend perfectly. As I mention every year, make sure to chew the mushrooms well when you eat them. It brings out the full flavor. And here comes the pickled plum. Pickled plum has become synonymous with Udon-san, doesn't it? Its acidity enhances the overall taste. It can trigger a craving for rice. And though it may be obvious, there are still customers who pour the soup curry over the rice. While eating is a matter of personal preference, Udon-san recommends eating the rice and curry separately. The delicate and sharp flavor of the soup curry can get lost when mixed with rice. You wouldn't pour miso soup over rice, would you? Well, eating it more like a "curry risotto" is also fine...but this is not a meal service. The myoga premium is only available this month. If you visit at night, they may close before 7:00 PM on certain days or sell out by reservation. To avoid missing out, it's best to make a phone reservation. It was delicious this day. I wonder if I can go back for another round. ☆Thank you for the meal☆

JR Gotanda Station is about a 6-minute walk away. I arrived 20 minutes before the night session started and there were already two people in line. I checked the restaurant's unique rules online beforehand. Today, I ordered the seasonal soup curry for 1400 yen with an additional 100 yen for cheese and 200 yen for spicy minced meat toppings. The seasonal soup curry had plenty of shimeji mushrooms, maitake mushrooms, and ground pork. The soup was light at first but became spicy afterwards. The spicy minced meat was also quite spicy. The cheese helped balance out the heat. It truly had a spiciness that made me feel like summer. The spicy minced meat topping is recommended. I was sweating by the end, but it was incredibly delicious until the last bite. Thank you for the meal.

I visited a soup curry restaurant in Gotanda for the first time in 10 years. When I used to work in the TOC Building, I often used to have lunch there. When I arrived in the evening, there was already a line outside as they were just opening. Since the owner cooks alone, you usually have to wait for more than 30 minutes from ordering. After waiting for almost 40 minutes, I finally got my order. This time I tried the seasonal curry (which in autumn is a mushroom herbal curry). Ah, the taste is just the same as before! I enjoyed devouring the large portion of rice, and finished it in no time. Thank you for the meal!

At the beginning of September, on a sunny Saturday at 11:20, we arrived at the restaurant where the 7th person arrived at 11:30 when they opened. The seating process seemed a bit slippery, starting from the back. It seems the rule is to quietly wait until your order is taken. The food arrived around 11:50, a seasonal soup curry with autumn shimeji, maitake mushrooms, and minced chicken, chosen as normal spiciness. The rice was 300 grams, just right. The unique sweet and spicy flavor became addictive. Next time, I'll try the garlic pork topping with cheese and spicy ground meat. It seems that it's a rule to eat the curry and rice separately without mixing them. Although various rules can be a bit bothersome, the manager is friendly.

Visited on a Saturday afternoon, with the owner alone and 5 other customers already there. Ordered the seasonal soup curry for 1,400 yen. Was told that egg toppings were currently unavailable. Opted for a smaller portion of rice (200g instead of the usual 300g). The dish was served in about 15 minutes. It was generously filled with bitter gourd and pork, and although labeled as spicy, it was just right and tasty. The smaller portion of rice was not enough, so the regular portion would have been better. Overall, I was satisfied with the delicious meal. Thank you for the meal.

I have been visiting this place at least once a month for over 10 years now, always enjoying their seasonal curry. However, there is one dish that sometimes I just can't resist: the Night Soup. It costs 1,000 yen and the Spicy Ground Meat topping costs 200 yen. It's like a comfort food to me, a staple that never fails to satisfy. I feel like I could eat it endlessly... And isn't the name "Night Soup" just great? This menu item was born from a chance encounter with a customer, and I'm grateful for that. While I love all the curry dishes at this udon restaurant, the Night Soup stands out with its simple yet delicious appeal. I recommend it to everyone who doesn't like chicken meat. But first, try their seasonal curry! It was also great chatting about Yokohama! See you again soon. Thank you for the delicious meal!

Usually at 1:00 pm, if there are 2 empty seats available, you can just sit down without hesitation. The menu is a bit hard to understand, but they have seasonal spicy soup curry (not customizable in terms of spiciness). In August, they have a Spicy Goya version. The owner cook silently while chatting with regular customers. The dish is served in just a few minutes. Despite being labeled as spicy, it's not that hot. However, there's a lot of Goya (bitter melon) in it. Even though I thought I finished it, I found more Goya at the bottom. The thin slices of pork belly and garlic at the bottom add a nice flavor. It feels a bit lacking in ingredients, so topping it off might be a good idea. Maybe I had too high expectations. It didn't really appeal to me, but for those who like this kind of flavor, they might enjoy it.

I went to try the August premium "Goya Soup Curry with Umeboshi". I also added spicy minced meat and spicy grilled eggplant. The sourness, spiciness, and spiciness of the soup curry kept me sweating, but I couldn't stop eating with a spoon. It also had pork belly in it, giving it a satisfying texture. Thank you for the delicious meal this month too.

First visit to "Curry Udon" - I don't eat soup curry often so I can't compare, but I recommend the "Seasonal Curry Spicy Goya." It comes with large pork belly and plenty of bitter melon. The curry with summer vegetables was excellent.

Got off at Gotanda Station and Oimachi-hirokoji Station, both within an 8-minute walk. It's a short distance, but there are many traffic lights. Arrived around noon on a weekday and got a table right away since it's a self-seating system. You order when the owner is available. This time, I had the seasonal Spicy Goya Curry. It's more like soup curry than regular curry. The curry is light and packed with spices. The goya still has a crunchy texture and bitterness, perfect for summer with a slice of pork adding a good balance of nutrients.

Well, I had intended to start writing reviews of this favorite restaurant of mine from July last year to let everyone know about it, but somehow I missed writing from August to October. So, let's talk about the August seasonal soup curry. It's the Spicy Goya Soup Curry with plenty of pork belly and bitter melon. I always order the Premium option, which includes a plum on top. It's so good! It's a dish that makes me realize the importance of health from deep within the body to survive the hot summer. And on top of that, it's incredibly delicious - absolutely perfect. The slight acidity from the plum adds another nice flavor. Whenever I feel like I'm going to be exhausted, I'll definitely come back here. As always, for those planning to visit, make sure to read the "Curry Shop Udon" website thoroughly before you go.

Typhoon veered away from Tokyo during Obon. Now, it's time for bitter melon season. It's Udon-san's summer, yes! Today's special is Premium Goya (bitter melon), pork, and pickled plum curry with less rice, spicy minced meat - 1700 yen. The restaurant is really crowded today. Udon-san is constantly moving around, but he also shows a bit of composure by occasionally chatting with customers. As expected! The combination of bitter Goya, sour pickled plum, juicy pork, is just delicious. The thick pork slices are so tasty! The spicy minced meat, actually it's been a while, but did the spices change? I felt the spiciness more than usual today (Did you reduce cloves?). It was so delicious that I almost ran out of rice, and panicked. I'm very satisfied, it was delicious!! ☆Thank you for the meal☆

I thought that the soup curry with bitter melon was surprisingly good. It's healthy and quite delicious. However, the fact that the owner handles everything alone means that there is quite a wait, so I'm not sure if I would go out of my way to eat there again.

Since trying CoCo Ichibanya for the first time the day before, I became obsessed with curry and decided to visit "Udon" restaurant. The owner runs the place alone, so there is quite a wait. I later learned that regular customers follow a rule of ordering the seasonal soup curry, so it took longer for newcomers like us who didn't know anything and ordered a time-consuming (unconventional) curry. I'm sorry for any inconvenience we caused.
I got the sweet pork curry with minced meat topping and the spicy garlic pork curry. It may have been unconventional, but the sweet pork curry was delicious and amazing! The sweetness added depth, and the spiciness made me say "delicious!" with every bite. The minced meat topping was slightly sweet and paired perfectly. The spicy garlic pork curry was disappointingly thin and lacked flavor or spiciness. If I ever go back, I would like to try the seasonal curry and, though it may be a bother, I would love to have the sweet pork curry again. Also, remember to bring your own tissues.

I was attracted to visit the shop because of its name, which is "Udon," even though it is actually a curry restaurant. When we first entered, we were the only customers, but soon more people started to arrive. It was my first visit and I wasn't sure what to order, so I decided to go with the recommended seasonal curry (Goya curry). I like Goya, so I had high expectations. The curry had a thin broth, with plenty of Goya in it, which was good. However, it felt a bit lacking in richness, possibly due to the moisture from the Goya. The customer next to me had the seasonal curry topped with minced meat and cheese. That combination sounded appealing... they must be a regular customer here. Since the shop offers various toppings, it seems like a place where you can customize your curry to your liking. It's probably best to keep coming back and experimenting until you find your favorite flavor.

I would appreciate it if you could like, save, and follow me for encouragement :) [Overall] - A curry restaurant in Gotanda that has been in business for over 20 years - About 70% full around 12:00 on weekdays - Order and wait system - HP must be read before the first visit - Cash only [Food] - Seasonal Soup Curry 1400 yen Monthly soup curry. This month it was a summer Sri Lankan curry. Not a Sri Lankan curry, but a Sri Lankan-style curry with a fish broth flavor. Ingredients include tomatoes, chicken, and cream cheese. The spiciness gradually builds up, with the cream cheese adding a nice accent. The rice is a normal size of 300g, which is quite generous, considering the amount and spiciness of the curry. However, it was quite filling. ******I also have an Instagram, so please take a look if you're interested. https://www.instagram.com/sss_03gourmet/******

I had the Seasonal Soup Curry for 1400 yen at this restaurant with a mysterious name. The July title for the Seasonal Soup Curry was "Midsummer Sri Lanka" with plenty of tomato and chicken topped with garlic cheese. They started by picking out some tomatoes from a case and sautéing them for quite some time. The tomatoes cooked over the fire were delicious, as were the chicken and cheese. I arrived at the restaurant right at the opening time of 11:30 am and found a seat immediately. By the time my curry was ready, half of the counter seats were already occupied. Even when I left around 12 pm, there were still empty seats available. I walked from Gotanda Station, which took about 10 minutes, and it was a bit challenging due to the heat.

We visited a curry udon restaurant in Gotanda with two friends for the first time. It was July, the beginning of the summer season. I was eager to try the Summer in Sri Lanka curry udon, my favorite menu. We made a reservation for Friday at 7:30 PM and luckily it wasn't too crowded, so we were quickly served. I chose the Summer in Sri Lanka (chicken, tomato, cream cheese), cheese, spicy minced meat, and eggplant toppings. The curry was delicious, especially with the combination of tomato and cream cheese. The chicken was tender, and the eggplant topping was also great. The rice was of high quality, and the cheese and spicy minced meat toppings added a lot of flavor. We finished our meal quickly and enjoyed the warm feeling afterward. This curry is truly unique and a must-eat during the summer season. Thank you to my friends for joining me!

On my second visit, I arrived around 7:30 pm on a weekday after calling ahead. There was no line, and there were about three empty seats so I was seated right away. The place was understaffed, so the service was a bit slow with getting water, taking orders, and remembering the order in which customers arrived. I had to wait at least 30 minutes after placing my order, but I didn't mind because that's just how this restaurant is. If you're bothered by these things, you might find it difficult to visit. Now, onto the curry in the middle of summer in Sri Lanka. There were so many cherry tomatoes in it that I stopped counting halfway through, and the perfect sweet and sour taste paired well with the soup curry and cream cheese. There were also three pieces of chicken, sandwiched between layers of tomatoes. The highlight was the spicy minced meat served on top of the rice, which was packed with flavor and very satisfying. In the seasonal curry series, the spicy minced meat is a must-try. I will definitely try the creamy curry on my next visit.
