Today, I went to watch a baseball game at Jingu Stadium. Since Shinbashi Station is a transfer station, I decided to have lunch within walking distance of Shinbashi, so I came to "The KARI" restaurant. It is located about an 8-minute walk from the south exit of Shinbashi Station (Karasumoriguchi). I arrived around 1:00 PM on a Friday afternoon. The restaurant was full, with 4 customers waiting. Within 5 minutes, a seat became available and I was able to sit down.
The restaurant has a counter with about 10 seats in an "L" shape. When I first visited, I was unsure whether I should wait inside or outside, but the staff kindly guided me inside to wait. The menu determines the type of curry based on spiciness - there is spicy beef curry and slightly spicy chicken curry, for example. I ordered what is likely the most popular dish, the "Spicy Beef Curry Large Size" for 1,160 yen including tax.
You can choose from "2 types" of side dishes. It seemed like the most common choice among regulars was "pickled cabbage," but I chose the "spiced sautéed potatoes." It arrived in about 3 minutes. The curry looked dry with spices on top! The beef pieces were large, about the size of a piece of candy, and there were about 8 of them - very satisfying. On the other hand, ingredients like onions and carrots were not visible, so you can simply enjoy the curry as it is.
I took a bite. Delicious! And quite spicy! But not just spicy, it has a good aroma of spices and umami. Once you start eating, you can't stop! It was the classic curry I had been looking for, rich in spices. Spicy yet delicious! Delicious yet spicy. There are no unnecessary ingredients, just curry, rice, meat, and occasionally the side dish of sautéed potatoes, making it a combination that I finished in about 7 minutes.
A heartwarming moment was when a young staff member who mainly took orders noticed the napkin was about to fly away in the wind, and gently placed a weight from the order slip on it. This small gesture allowed me to focus on enjoying the delicious curry without worrying about the napkin flying away.
Since it's within walking distance of Shinbashi, even if you don't have a specific reason, I highly recommend stopping by this wonderful curry restaurant on your way to transfer or for any other occasion. If it were closer, I would definitely become a regular customer.
